Even though we had a big snag our first night, I am giving Le Meridien 5/5 for the way they ultimately
handled it. We stayed on a Friday and Saturday as locals having a "staycation". Check in was a breeze
and everyone was pleasant. I requested a room away from the elevators and that's what I got, on the 9th floor. The room and bathroom were both clean, only minor stains on the headboard and seat
cushions. One thing to note is that this hotel does not have a refrigerator. It has a minibar fridge that is
stocked (don't you dare touch anything or you'll get charged!), and a minifridge that has a sticker on it
indicating it is a cooler only (presumably for medications). We did put bottled water in here anyway, but it wouldn't get beer cold enough, for example.
We got ready for dinner and headed out for the night. We returned just after midnight to discover our room keys did not work - in fact, they did not light up the keypad at all. We made a trip to the front desk, at which time our keys were "reset", went back upstairs, still not working. Back downstairs, reset again, back upstairs, still not working. Back downstairs, the front desk indicated they would dispatch an engineer. Back upstairs, we waited and waited. Nobody came to our room.
Just as we had resolved to go back to the front desk, a door opened about 12 feet away from us and a man appeared and began fiddling with our door. He wasn't very communicative, but we could tell he wasn't successful in fixing the problem. He disappeared, and ultimately reappeared with another employee who opened our door with a tool. He advised that the batteries on our door were dead, and that the batteries would be replaced. It was now 1:15 a.m.
He disappeared again after fiddling with our door from the inside, and we went to sleep, thinking the
batteries had been replaced. I tried the door the next morning. The keys did not work. Back down to the front desk. Jocelyn and Josh Marshall were extremely sympathetic and helpful after I recounted what had happened a few hours earlier. I guess for completeness, I was sent back to my room with "reset" keys once again, accompanied by Josh, who confirmed my report that the batteries were dead.
Another trip back down to the front desk, at which time Jocelyn dispatched another engineer. I was
instructed to go back to my room with the key (I left my husband inside so someone could let me in).
Back up to my room. Not even 5 minutes later, a different engineer appeared and changed the
batteries out in a matter of minutes. He told me my key should work without having to go to the front
desk and he was right! After that, we were all set.
The bed was extremely comfortable, the room temperature was nice and cold, and the bathroom was spacious and modern. We used the pool area, which was also lovely, and had really cute cabanas. I
had coffees and a pastry from the bar downstairs and later on in the day, we had some beers from the
same place. The service was cheerful. Unlike other hotels in the area, this one has plenty of elevators,
and we never had to wait for one.
After responding to an email I received inquiring as to how my stay was going, I received a prompt and
gracious response and apology from management. I was very impressed. What happened to us was
really a fluke, and it was handled with grace. I would recommend this hotel and I would staycation there again anytime!
