**All I Wanted Was a Peaceful Mother's Day...**
This year, I decided to treat myself to a Mother's Day *escape*--a quiet night away at a nice hotel where I could relax by the pool while the kids entertained themselves.
Instead, I got... a very different kind of getaway.
First, I discovered the hotel doubles as a live concert venue. Apparently, the third floor is *not* soundproof, and at 9pm, my bedtime story soundtrack became a full-volume 80s cover band absolutely *shredding* "We Will Rock You." Add a choir of very drunk, very loud people outside shouting the lyrics like they were auditioning for "Bohemian Rhapsody: The Opera," and you can imagine the bedtime vibes. I called the front desk and was told the music would end at 10pm--which it did, but I think my kids are still vibrating from the bass.
Then, there's the parking situation. Valet only. \$31. No exceptions. Just hand over the keys and your dignity.
And the cherry on top? Someone *vomited* in the pool. I repeat: *vomited*. The hotel staff's response? "Oops." That was it. Not a "we're closing the pool to clean it" or "let's test the water," just a casual shrug and the pool stayed open like it was a *suggestion*, not a biohazard. My kids were IN the pool at the time. Meanwhile, I saw the vomiter's dad sipping on a beer... at 9:30am.
In fairness, I contacted the hotel and they comped my breakfast--which, at that point, felt like handing me a band-aid after a car crash. I paid \$339 for a single night of chaos, noise, and concern that my kids may now be part-chlorine, part-whatever-that-was in the water.
I get that hotels can't control everything, but... yikes.
