The Best Restaurants and Bars in Ahuntsic | Eater Montreal

"Montreal has its share of easygoing, French-leaning BYOBs, but Le Millen stands out with some highly regarded tasting menus. Whether selecting the seven-service option at $85 or the nine-service one at $105, diners will enjoy restaurant staples like chicken consommé, Le trou normand (a palate cleanser), and a cheese plate. In between, you’ll enjoy chef Jérémie Gélinas-Roy’s gorgeous plates of stuffed pasta, foie gras, or veal cheek with pickled blueberries and seaweed crumble." - Eater Staff

The Best Montreal BYOB Restaurants | Eater Montreal

"One of the newer options from BYOB monarchs Georges Blais and Marc-André Paradis, this Ahuntsic spot is distinctly French-feeling with eyes on the rest of Europe, and is rather upscale. A five-course tasting menu is but one choice from this highly-praised restaurant; the beef carpaccio and the roasted duck also come with high recommendation." - Holly Tousignant

The restaurant environment is really noisy and noisy. It is nice to be able to bring your own wine. The food portions are small and I was still very hungry at the end.

This is my third time at this charming restaurant. This place is a real gem! Every plate is a piece of art with a explosion of flavors. And its a BYOB! The service is amazing. I highly recommend this place and will definitely come back!

The Millen is a wonderful dining experience. We’ve been there about 8 times and every single time we’ve been amazed by the quality and quantity of flavours, the beauty of the presentation and the undisputed skills of the chef. This restaurant hands down beats a lot if not all of the most expensive restaurants downtown. It is well worth taking the time to enjoy a nine courses meal and service is always impeccable.

Of the many BYOW restaurants in Montréal, this one ranks way up there. Each course of the reasonably priced tasting menu was spot on, as was the service. Though we went in the dead of winter, it’d be great to check out their terrasse.

Tried that joint with the Mtl à table deal! Everything was super good, the service A+, they were super friendly, Im not giving 5 stars because of tiny portions and that meal missed some carbs! we had to add a side of fries cause pretty sure we would have left hungry! 43$ was kinda excessive

One of the best meals I've had in Montréal. Amazing well balanced flavors, incredible présentation and great service.

This place came highly recommended from our friends and we were incredibly excited to try it for our anniversary dinner. I will give the chef credit for the food because it was amazing, but the rest of the experience left a lot and I mean a lot to be desired. There were two servers walking around the restaurant all night and they barely spoke to us. They either wouldn't explain each dish or barely explain it (remember this is a tasting menu place where each dish should be explained when its brought). They wouldn't look at us when they came over which is just awkward. It took them 15 minutes to come open our second bottle of wine (its byob). I would have opened it but I didn't have an opener and when I asked one of the servers to borrow hers she didn't have it on her and had to go find one. Now all of this is at least annoying if not out right rude for a restaurant of this stature, but the final straw came at the end. I asked to take our dessert to go and they said they couldn't do that... What kind of restaurant doesn't let you take your food to go??? I also asked for the truffle butter they had taken when I was using the restroom to go (as I was saving it to take home because it was delicious) and they said no again! They went and asked the chef or something if they could after I asked why they couldn't do these things and he said no too!!! For dinner for 2 you are spending a minimum of $207 before tip and at that price range you expect a little more service at the bare minimum. I am appalled at the level of service. I have worked in the service industry for years and I understand people have off days but this was absurd. Never on my worst day as a server or bartender have I ever come even close to providing such low quality service. I hope other people's experiences are better.

Yelp
Fantastic in every way! Food was masterful, every course was beautifully prepared. The service was spot on and being a week night they were not that busy, so the ambiance was intimate. Met the Chef owner very humble and a master at his craft.

Yelp
I came here last night with my boyfriend. I was excited for this restaurant because of all the good reviews here on yelp and also because it's a french BYOB. I love french food and boy did I feel like drinking that night! We got there and we were seated at the back close to the washrooms. It's a small restaurant and there were only two seats left so its no wonder we didn't get good seats. What I didn't appreciate was that it took the waiter 15 min for him to bring over some water and then another five min to open up our wine bottle. I told the waiter that I thought he forgot about us and he apologized and said that he thought his colleague was going to bring us some water but she never did. We shared the oyster entree. It was basically a fancy tiny sandwich with three crispy oysters inside, lemon aioli, a garlic gel and a champagne foam on top. For me it was too lemony but my boyfriend enjoyed it. The waiter brought out some warm bread with butter made with beets. It didn't taste like beets to me but it was very good. We finished the bread and butter and asked for a refill. I got the beef tartare as a main. It was supposed to be bison tartare but they ran out. It's too bad because I really enjoy bison tartare. The beef tartare was good but not amazing. It had a creamy anchovy sauce but thankfully it didn't taste like anchovies which I liked because i don't like anchovies. The tartare was served with julienne fries and crispy fried onions. The fries were good but the mayo it came with tasted so weird and I didn't like it at all. I actually ate my fries with ketchup and I never do that. My boyfriend got the poultry ballotine. It's basically chicken stuffed with truffle, pancetta, onions, mushrooms with a cauliflower sauce and mustard seeds on top. This dish was very good! If you go definitely get this dish! The waiter recommended it as well. Unfortunately, I wouldn't come back and there's other french BYOBs that I like way more.

Yelp
Newly opened BYOW place in the less visited and restaurant crowed east end. We went on a whim for a casual Saturday night out. And this place is just that, a good spot for a casual night out. The decor is very simple yet welcoming, almost too much so at times as the proximity of the tables will have you engaging with your neighbours spontaneously. The menu is modernized French fare, offering either a tasting of 5 courses or an a la carte of the same items. Some novelty in the plates as ingredients not usually seen together are worked to create harmony. Quail with scampi AND veal? Duck and calamari?! As odd as some of these combinations might seem, they actually worked out pretty well together. Another plus of this place was that the bread was on point! Served warm and crunchy with room temperature butter. We had 3 baskets.... We probably also ended up having three baskets of bread because unfortunately the portions for the mains were quite small and left us on our appetite. Overall an enjoyable night. Not a place I would visit on a regular basis but I'd definitely come back to try again if they keep their menu updated.

Yelp
This one of the better BYOs in Montreal but some ways away in Ahuntsic. First of all, the food was excellent. The carpaccio, the tartare, the chicken... all of it was delicious, especially very tasty. Very flavourful. Service was quick and attentive. Dessert was good but not on par with the mains. The place itself is what I would consider a hole in the wall. It's very tiny, cramped and lacks any kind of refinement. They could really afford to put some money in the decor, it really feels like you're in a cheap cafe next to a shopping mall.

Yelp
So I have decided to play a little game and choose a random neighborhood of Montreal and the first restaurant that could pique my interest. And voilà! Ahuntsic was the lucky card and this restaurant was randomly selected based on my Yelper curiosity. And oh boy did I make a great choice! It was easy to make a reservation and from the arrival to this restaurant the service was pleasant and friendly. Their food is delish, yes it was worth 30 something minute trip from Plateau to Le Millen. It's a BYOB restaurant which is great because bringing your favorite bottle or bottles is always a good thing. Their tartare is yammy and overall the whole experience left me satisfied. So yes, if you're looking to expand your horizons and step out outside of your neighborhood, then you should definitely consider checking out this place. You may just be surprised.

Yelp
Overall great BYOB restaurant experience. I took the tasting menu with the amuse-bouche, scallops, trou normand, veal and langoustine, and pistachio creme brulee. ($77 before tip) Service: Nothing special. The waiter was not terrible with english, but could have done better. The menu was also french only which was a little annoying. (3/5) Atmosphere/decor: Restaurant was very minimalistic for the quality of food. I felt as if I were eating at a chain take-out eatery with plastic chairs. (1/5) Amuse-bouche: Bison tartar with asparagus, and crispy bread all seasoned with paprika. Excellent taste, nothing to add (5/5). Scallops: Scallops with pancetta, corn mash, spinach, and caramelized popcorn. Scallops were on the small side which was disappointing and the caramelized popcorn was unnecessary and detracted from the flavor (3/5) Trou Normand: grapefruit sorbet with vodka. Very interesting in the fact that the sweetness of the grapefruit mellowed out the vodka. I am not a big fan of the hard liquor and did not see the point of this, but it is traditional so I will rate it objectively (4/5). It would have been perfect if the alcohol was completely hidden since the point is to "aid in digestion". Veal and langoustine: veal with langoustine, smoked lard foam, onions, spinach, red cabbage and vinegar purree. Everything in this dish just worked even without a grain. (5/5) Pistachio Creme Brulee: Delcious, but nothing special. (3/5). Bread: Bread (nothing special) at the table was sometimes cold and sometimes "fresh" and warm. I don't understand why the bread was not always warm. The chive butter was superb (3/5) For the price I paid for the tasting menu, I definitely got my money's worth in terms of the ingredients and the superb plating. I have some grievances here and there, but I hope this new restaurant will keep on improving and continue to put out its great food. (3.5/5 overall)

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! We had the tasting menu and everything we had was divine, from the foie gras to the crème brûlée... but the sweetbreads were the pièce de résistance. Unfortunately, the service was lacking. Our server forgot to bring our Trou Normand, but we only realized at the very of our meal. The place is small and cozy, so I would suggest making a reservation beforehand. And don't forget to BYOB! I definitely recommend Le Millen to anyone who loves French cuisine.

Yelp
Ordinary food, ordinary ambiance, ordinary place, at a premium price in anyway justified. I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.
