"A vibrant colour scheme and an unrivalled view of the lake depict this smart, trendy restaurant which serves finely crafted bistronomic fare: foie gras and duck breast; fillet of roast John Dory with seaweed butter; Brittany shortcrust with exotic marmalade." - Michelin Inspector

Palace de Menthon (Menthon-Saint-Bernard, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s clear at a glance that Le Palace de Menthon is no newcomer to the Lake Annecy luxury-hotel scene; this early-20th-century edifice is a slice of old-world heaven right by the water’s edge. And while its historical romance is still very much in evidence, it’s seen some substantial upgrades, and is today on a level with the best 21st-century luxury hotels — though with a character few of them can match." - Tablet Hotels

We truly loved our stay at this hotel — the overall experience was wonderful, and the setting is absolutely magical, especially the beach, which we found to be one of the highlights of our trip. That said, there are a few points that kept us from giving a higher rating: • bike rental flexibility : Renting bikes is a fantastic option in this area and a great idea for guests. However, we found it quite inflexible that rentals were only offered by the hour, with no option for a 30-minute rate — especially when the hotel wasn’t at full capacity. We simply wanted a short, romantic ride, and an hour felt a bit much, particularly at the full-hour rate. • « beach food » : While we loved spending time at the beach, the food options available there could really be improved. We were surprised to see no light or classic snack choices (like a club sandwich, for example), which are typically offered at other similar settings. A more thoughtful beachside snack menu would enhance the experience greatly. • Room size and breakfast: Our room for our short two-night stay, was quite small and located under the roof, which might not be ideal for longer stays. As for breakfast i think its the part I usually look forward to most, but I thought it was extremely basic for the level of this hotel Despite these few drawbacks, everything else was great. The ambiance, the charm of the property, and the overall feel of the hotel made it a memorable stay. With just a bit more attention to detail, this could be an exceptional five-star experience

Absolutely loved everything about our stay. The views and location are amazing, the breakfast has an excellent selection in a stunning setting, and just relaxing by the lake with the option for drinks, food and swimming in beautiful grounds was lovely. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. Only minor thing we would feedback is that it would be great if the beach bar could be open a bit longer to allow for a sundowner to be had with the beautiful views and setting.

Upon arrival they informed me that the room I booked was not available and in their system it was a lower level room. I had booked a panoramic lake view room but was put in a room that faced an exterior wall. The first person at the hotel I notified about the issue was dismissive and told me that that the room I got was what was in their system and they would not accommodate any change as the reservation was made in Expedia (which it was not it was booked through Chase travel). ||Although the room was not what I had paid for, we tried to enjoy our time; however, the service was poor and the kids running around the resort made it hard to enjoy. We tried to enjoy drinks on the balcony, and our ear space was invaded by children singing songs about farts. It was very hard to find a relaxing moment or good service in this hotel. We felt like the hotel employees did not want us there.||We ended up checking out early. If you want to stay here only book through their website as all other guests are treated like garbage for booking through an alternative method.

This hotel is great and extremely average all at the same time. The rooms are fine, the location is amazing (you can get a great sunset from the Eastern side of European lakes) and the views from the restaurant and lakeside sunbeds were lovely. However there were a few things that they fell short on - we stayed there in the last week of June, it was beautiful weather yet because they don’t count it as high season until July, the beach bar was shut (unless they have corporate events), and their bar in the hotel itself doesn’t open until 3pm. So if you want an Aperol Spritz at midday, you have to go to their fine dining restaurant (no good if you’re sunbathing at the lakeside). The fine dining restaurant is average, the food was under seasoned and they serve a basket of bread with no plates, butter or olive oil, then their waiters have to scrape crumbs off the table if you’ve made a mess. The waiter recommended a local wine, but it was not good and shouldn’t have been anywhere near this menu. Just because it’s local doesn’t mean it’s good. Also the bar tables outside need some shade, no one sat there when we visited as the area with parasols was reserved for corporate hospitality. There was uncollected rubbish on side tables too. We felt that as we weren’t there in high season, the hotel was only paying attention to the corporate guests. So if you (the hotel) don’t want to bother with couples/families, just use your hotel for corporate events - but bear in mind some of those couples may have been scouting the hotel for the future. I recommend if you’re not going to open the beach bar when it’s 35 degrees celsius, maybe convert one of those golf carts the staff go around in and have a drinks cart… Coca Cola/orange juice/beer/wine/cocktails/snacks - no one was drinking or eating at the lakeside as they couldn’t be bothered to walk up the steps to the hotel, or it was before 3pm. For heaven’s sake make it easy for people to spend money with you, we spent far more money in the local bars and restaurants than we did at the hotel!

A superb stay (once again) on the shores of Lake Annecy. Incredible setting and first class and friendly service throughout. Having stayed at most decent places around the lake over the years, the Palace at Menthon St Bernard has become our favourite

The hotel was overall very nice. The amazing lake next to it is a real plus. The spa is without doubt a luxury. The breakfast service is very complete, and nice staff. However, the hotel's entrance has a downside, you must go uphill with your suitcases and probably damage them on the non paved way up there. Besides, going to the spa you must go down the stairs too. In my opionion, the hotel should provide the service of bringing the guests (if they want) down by their golf carts. I am 6 months pregnant and sure I did not enjoy much going up and down the stairs. I came to relax not to exercise. If I wasnt pregnant probably I wouldnt complain, but I am, and there are old people who come there too, and people with more limited mobility. So on that matter I think the hotel should provide their already existing golf carts the service to bring down or up theit guests, either to the spa or the entrance of the hotel. I should not be obligated to ask for it, it simply should be there available.

We loved our stay. The rooms were luxurious and quiet. The staff were friendly, although not extremely. Which is fine, as the hotel and spa are gorgeous and you spend most of your time either swimming or relaxing! Would love to stay here again.

The hotel is really great with a nice landscaping. The reception staff are extremely helpful and the rooms are clean but little dusty since they are covered with natural wood. The bathroom is clean. Our room window was too small to enjoy the view but it was ok. The room service was great for breakfast and dinner. The only unpleasant experience i had was when we went to enjoy drinks at the restaurant. After we sat down i informed our waitress that we would only be having drinks and she didn’t make any remarks about that. We got our drinks and we started to have an enjoyable time then had sudden interruption by who i believed was the host. He asked us to leave the restaurant since we are only having drinks and there are people who are going to have dinner. My husband politely told him it is ok we will order dinner if that’s a requirement. The host smiled sarcastically and he said no i cant keep you setting even if you ordered. It was ok with us to leave but i was baffled by his persistence despite our willingness to order dinner. I still think the hotel is nice but i will not be coming back nor i will recommend it to anyone. Another note, when he approached us, he asked if we speak English, I dont think that’s offensive, but u could have easily asked your colleagues that have already served us if we do. Another remark, when we agreed to move outside and set on the terrace with no light or waiters out there, he carried our drinks for us and i told him he can leave the extra shot glasses on the table , he went on commenting : Ah you dont drink!.. first of all, it is none of your business, secondly, pls check again with your staff before commenting such stereotypical comments. Just because i am middle eastern, it doesn’t mean i dont drink, and just because i dont like to take a shot, it doesn’t mean i dont drink. I wrote the review after i came back from my vacation i stayed there for few days

Yelp
Set in an idyllic spot overlooking lake Annecy, this is the perfect retreat for a week-end. Everything here is fine, although I have to say that while the rooms are very sobre with regards to the hotel's standing and price, the swimming pool is one of the most beautiful I've seen in my life. The restaurant is also great, although some little imperfections (typos in the menu, careless waiters, prevent it from being a true gem, and hence does not make the 5 stars I would have otherwise granted it.
