Where to Eat and Drink in Evanston

"For breakfast in downtown Evanston, few places have developed the reputation that La Peep has consistently held. A favorite for both NU students and residents alike, the chain’s menu covers the essential breakfast groups, from French toast to skillets and everything in between. Plus, it offers an especially popular pancake of the month, ranging from chocolate chip cookie to pumpkin pecan." - Naomi Waxman, Samantha Nelson

Always go here for breakfast when visiting Chicago from Syracuse...great food every time!

The potato is just right. Crispy, filling, and not too salty. The pepper was savory.

Nice place for breakfast or brunch (they don't do dinner and lunch anyway). It could take some time to get a sit here because this place is very popular. The service is helpful and the orders get quick. the food is good with nice variety of sweet and savory with reasonable price. the place itself is cozy and the acoustic is good enough that you can hear one another at your table. They did some renovations lately in early 2019.

Very basic brunch spot with lots of seating. The salmon eggs benedict was mediocre - the salmon seemed like it was out of a can and the hollandaise sauce was too rich, I wouldn’t order it again. The hash browns, egg white omelette and skillets were very tasty though so I would recommend those. The menu is huge with options in every section/type of food which was overwhelming for me but worked well for our group with different dietary and health preferences. There are better breakfast/brunch spots in Evanston so this will not be a first choice but it’s a functional one that you can always get a table at with no/minimal waiting time.

This place is nice for a brunch with the family. It’s clean and welcoming. I got a pancake sandwich, my mom got the boulder crepes, and my dad got the homestead breakfast. There was a bit of a wait to get our food and our waiter forgot to grab us our coffee creamers. They gave us two bowls in the end. And even though we were halfway through our meal they placed the bill on the table. The food was good overall but not the best.

I had le breakfast at Le Peep since it was close to my hotel and was the only place opened at 7am. Food presentation and service was excellent (see attached pics of the Lobster Benedict and the Rock Lobster Scramble), but the taste was average. Good diner to start your day at, I would go back if I were in the area again.

I make a visit every time I'm in Evanston, and always get the Drifter Skillet + biscuit (instead of English muffin). As a vegetarian, some menu items can feel like they exist only to check a "veg option" box. This skillet is not that. Don't sleep on the Drifter skillet trust.

I have eaten at Le Peep in Evanston a number of times before and have been generally happy with my experience. During my visit there yesterday, hash browns with my meal came almost totally uncooked. When I complained to the senior worker there she asked, “When you placed your order did you tell the waiter you wanted your potatoes crispy?” No I did not, I admitted. Now how was I to know I needed to do that? Besides, I did not want my potatoes crispy. I just expected that they come cooked, as they have on all previous occasions. Taken aback by what was now being made my fault for not placing a proper order, I asked her if I also needed to tell the waiter that I wanted my coffee hot, or my Coke cold, she said I was being unreasonable. Besides, I HAD asked that I wanted my burger medium rare and the eggs over easy but the burger came well done and the eggs were not exactly easy. I did not even complain about that because I could still eat both. Unlike potatoes which I could not eat even as I tried. Ever try eating raw potatoes?
