Palisociety Takes the Show on the Road

"One of a pair with Le Petit Pali at 8th Avenue, this one, at 34 rooms, is similarly intimate, and a fine match for the relatively tranquil atmosphere of this classic California coastal town. Some rooms and suites come with gas fireplaces, and all of them freely combine vintage- and antique-inspired furniture and artworks with unobtrusively modern boutique-hotel comforts." - Mitchell Friedman

Le Petit Pali at Ocean Ave (Carmel / Monterey, California) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"One of a pair of Le Petit Pali hotels in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Le Petit Pali at Ocean Avenue takes the trademark nostalgia-tinged Palihotels style to another level. Even the bigger, more urban Pali properties feel charmingly home-like, but the bed-and-breakfast–inspired Le Petit Pali inns are even more so; this one, at 34 rooms, is pleasantly intimate, and a fine match for the relatively tranquil atmosphere of this classic California coastal town." - Tablet Hotels

My husband and I came here on our honeymoon and had the best experience with Jessica, Alex, the two men at the front desk (sorry for not knowing the names), the morning breakfast team, housekeeping, everyone! We absolutely loved our stay, enjoyed the breakfast every morning, and the amenities. We even got to celebrate with champagne. We had a wonderful time and this location has an amazing team!

Honestly, very underwhelming and overpriced. This place is all aesthetic. Yes, the decor and the way the rooms are done is quite charming. But other than that it’s literally a fancy motel. I couldn’t justify what we spent for what we got. We were also charged an amenity fee even though we didn’t use any so beware of that. Location was great though.

I’ve recently stayed here, and I felt the need to write a review to clarify what this is for future customers. It’s a motel, on the side of a busy road. Rooms are nice, the front of house lady is very nice, but for $700 a night, this is absolute daylight robbery. I stay in a lot of hotels, I know Carmel is an expensive town but I feel completely ripped off. The website and photos polish it all up very nicely but the reality is it’s a posh motel. Just want to manage expectations of future guests. Ps most rooms nosey, but room 18 is like sleeping out in the carpark.

From the moment we arrived at this charming hotel, I was completely blown away by the exceptional service and attention to detail. The front receptionist lady was welcoming, and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was nothing short of perfect. It’s clear they take great pride in creating a memorable experience for each guest as they arrive. Prepare to enjoy a glass of sparkling rose wine. The French-inspired decor throughout lobby and rooms was absolutely stunning, transporting me straight to Paris. The elegance and refinement of every room and common area made it feel like a luxurious escape. Every corner was thoughtfully designed, with beautiful touches that added to the overall ambiance. Very quaint and small hotel, not the huge corporate hotel model. To top it all off, the baked pastries were divine! Freshly made, they were the perfect complement to our morning coffee. And let’s not forget the sparkling rosé—such a delightful treat that made us feel like we were indulging. This hotel exceeded all expectations in every way, and we can’t wait to return. It’s rare to find such a combination of impeccable service, stunning decor, rooms with fireplace and thoughtful touches that make you feel truly special. Highly recommend!

We absolutely loved our stay at Le Petit Pali! The location is perfect, and the style of the hotel, with its beautifully restored building, left us in awe. The preservation of original features, especially the windows, was just stunning. We stayed in room #18, which felt like the liveliest and most charming space in the entire Inn, with its high ceilings and trusses adding so much character. The champagne breakfast was delightful, as were the warm cookies delivered to your room daily at the time you requested. The décor, like in all Palisociety properties, is impeccable. We especially loved the Marshall speakers, Nespresso machines, cozy Pendleton blankets and hot water bottles, luxurious Diptyque amenities, and complimentary Antipodes water. The bicycles available for use are a lovely touch as well. The only thing to keep in mind is the parking, which is small and doesn't have enough spaces for all guests. Arriving later in the evening could mean not finding a spot, which might be inconvenient.

This was the smallest hotel room I've had in years and the advertised Queen bed was not queen but a double. The towels are thin and rough, the bed uncomfortable, the "fireplace" a joke hole in the wall and it cost us almost $900 per night. |Truly awful and it would have been better to sleep in our car!

I’ve never written a review before but felt the need to after how bad our experience here was. I first called ahead of time to ask about the parking situation and the guy at the front desk said verbatim “Um. Just park?” — presumably the same guy who “greeted” us in the lobby after standing there alone for about 10 minutes - only to grumble at as our room wasn’t ready and should come back in 30 minutes. My boyfriend and I were so shocked we actually ended up booking another stay due to how bad the hospitality was. Paying 600$ a night to have someone not possibly be less interested in your existence is absurd.

When you come to Carmel, you come for the people and quaint vibe the town embodies. The people at Le Petit are the star of the stay. We can not say enough wonderful things about the people, the rooms, the location and even the whole town. I write reviews so you can make a decision with some sense of real experiences. Definitely stay at Le Petit and enjoy the convenience of the food, the ocean and the sunsets at your fingertips, but please, please also chat with the locals and especially the crew at Le Petit...they are a highlight of the stay and you would be missing out to not get to know them during your stay. We loved it.

Yelp
We had a nice stay here. We aren't super picky, or easily irritated, but I could see how others may find a few things frustrating. The staff is friendly and the hotel is cute and clean with very comfy beds! Lots of lovely outdoor areas to read or hang out with a drink. If you stay on the bottom floor, you will hear people walking in the room above you. The walls are thin, and there was a dog with a squeaky toy next door who was awake and playing at 5:30am one morning. No one's fault really. We would come back!

Yelp
We absolutely loved our stay at this super cute and vintage hotel right off of Downtown Carmel!! The staff was all incredible and very helpful whenever he had questions. They offer complimentary champagne brunch in the morning and fresh cookies delivered to your room upon arrival. We came with our dog and they gave us a nice set of bowls to use during our stay and a dog toy to keep afterwards! I would definitely recommend staying here if you want to be close to things in Carmel and don't want to have to worry about driving around and looking for parking. It was so convenient to be able to walk everywhere. Definitely worth checking out for your next stay!

Yelp
This is a beautiful boutique style hotel. I am very pleased with everything. The room is cute and cozy. The interior design is done well and sticks to the theme of the little hotel. I would say it's cozy and well organized with all the little amenities. Bathroom is lovely and bed is comfy. The outside property has plenty of sitting room and is also aesthetically well organized with beautiful plants. The lobby and sitting area of check in and breakfast area with a built in bar, fireplace, cozy sofas and chairs and, again, beautiful decor. I really enjoy this place and it will become my go-to when I come to town for pleasure and business. The staff was great and attentive. They leave warm baked cookies in your room in the evening. Btw the coffee is yummy. And I'm picky about that. Parking up front, but if that's taken there is community parking for free down the street. Check in was easy and the attendant was very nice. She gave some restaurant and parking advice and with a smile poured me a Nice rosè. If you have a room upstairs you don't have access to elevator. That was fine with me.

Yelp
Loved our stay at the cozy Le Petit Pali. The staff was so friendly to my husband and I as soon as we arrived. Our maltipoo was immediately greeted with love as well as soon as we arrived. The room was cozy and quaint, perfect for our long weekend stay. Loved the little details. But my favorite would be the freshly baked cookies delivered each evening. The free breakfast was also a plus, although limited. I did appreciate the freshly baked goodies from a local bakery as well. Location was pretty convenient as well since it is located across the Carmel plaza consisting of restaurants, wine tasting and some shopping. It wasn't too far of a walk to the beach either!

Yelp
As far as mid/low level hotels, this place isn't bad. No closet space and no storage space, so if you're staying more than 2 nights, be prepared to live out of your suitcase. No suitcase rack in room either, so your bags can sit on floor on chair. Now for management, it's very disappointing that you have such a prime location and so much potential and what you do with that. Here's some key points, my fiance, now wife, booked this place for our wedding in Carmel, my sister called the hotel ahead of time to arrange some accommodations to be placed in room, not only was your staff (a lady) was very rude and unhelpful, but please look at the note that was left for us upon check-in. A 4 year old child can write better than this. They offered her nothing that she asked, which were items off your menu which were half unavailable, and instead said "we have cheese and crackers," which is what she settled for. Hotel did nothing to acknowledge our wedding, although it was left in the notes, we got no acknowledgment of the best and most important time of our lives when we arrived and while the lady checked us in, the younger man just stood next to her and chatted, instead of offering to help with bags which we could have definitely used instead of going up and down 10 Times. Your staff saw us with photographer and cinematographer the next day in wedding clothes, still, zero acknowledgment. We stayed there Tuesday- Saturday and our room only got cleaned once. The other two times, they came in and saw clothes everywhere, took out the trash and left everything else, didn't make the bed, didn't refresh towels, nothing. And for the love of god, invest in some end tables that have some storage. You have two 3" hooks in the closet that can hold 2-3 hangers, but there's literally no other space, except for the one drawer in the entertainment center. The only and absolutely only staff member that was professional and pleasant to deal with was the elderly gentleman. The rest, seemed like they hated their job. Then you place a family with 4 young kids next to the couple getting married, again, horrible management, so we had to be woken up at 7am by screaming kids running back and forth in front of our door. And your housekeepers start slamming doors of their storage room at 7am with no regard for guest that are on vacation and talking loudly and laughing as if we're on their time. As someone who's worked for multiple hotels and now in property management, your staff is running your hotel, not your management. Not one person introduced him/herslef, so I couldn't even give you names. There's so much you could do with this piece of real Estate and business you have, it's truly sad how poorly you choose to run this place. Very disappointing. I also want to acknowledge the handicapped lady that was in front of us at check in, pleading with your staff saying "I'm handicapped and can't go up and down stairs," and the young lady with longer hair at front desk just kept repeating "sorry I have no other rooms," how about "would you like me to call around and find you a better suited accommodation," how about " can I at least offer assistance with your bags" or "may I at least help you go up the stairs"... just very unfortunate that this is how you choose to run your hotel, in Carmel of all places.... Treat your staff better, go back to the drawing board and retrain everyone on HOSPITALITY... dmv treats people better. Thank you to the elderly gentleman for being so pleasant to interact with at check out, wish we'd met him earlier. Even he asked "did you get any accommodations" to which my wife and I just responded "nope, not even a congrats" which would have genuinely done the trick....

Yelp
Orlando Gave excellent customer service, we will be returning to this property for employees like him!

Yelp
Amazing rooms, food, amenities and customer service for a very reasonable price. The rooms are cute and stylish and the continental breakfast is one of the best I've ever seen. We were checked in by Tara and she assisted with helping us extend our stay. She was absolutely lovely and extremely helpful with a great attitude. I had an amazing experience here over all and will be staying again for my next trip in Carmel.

Yelp
This place had a very charming and homey vibe from the moment you walk into the lobby. Very nice welcoming staff. The rooms were on the smaller side, but decorated so cute. The fireplace was a nice touch and warmed up the room so fast! The hotel offered a complementary wine when we got there which we really enjoyed. They also had a free happy hour, with a different drink every night. What we really enjoyed was the free cookie delivery every night at 6!! Really made our stay enjoyable and special. It was also perfected located, in the Heart of Carmel. Walking distance to all the nice stores, restaurants and anything you could want!

Yelp
Cute photos, sounds lovely but there are several things lacking. Their website shows they have air conditioning in the rooms, but they do not (and we happened to be there while it was hot). It is also loud since it was on a main street with a grocery store behind. Some staff is friendly while several are indifferent. Pluses are: extremely close to shopping and food, breakfast is included, simple yet good (toast, pastries, soft boiled egg, yogurt, juice). My biggest disappointment was the handling of the late check out. We requested to check out at noon because my husband had a meeting at 11 am (check out time). We were told they'd put a note for our room. Apparently it was not approved and we weren't told. I had to rush back from town to load my husband's bags into the car because he had already started his meeting and he had to move to the lobby mid meeting. Sliding a notice under the door that we did not get the late check out would have been appreciated.

Yelp
A stylish new motel-type property with well-appointed rooms, good food, and a friendly cheerful staff who regrettably did not offer any solution or meaningful apology when informed that a dog with separation anxiety was left to its own devices (i.e. barking non-stop) in the adjacent room from early in the morning until late in the evening. The only thing I heard more than the panicked woofing of a dog with separation anxiety was its owners scurrying out of the room reassuring themselves that the dog would eventually calm down. It did not, and we spoke three times to the hotel staff who didn't offer us a different room, or apparently tell the owners they must take their dog with them, or even extend us a discount or apology for a stay which was made unpleasant by the racket. They just said they'd speak to the guests, who continued to tiptoe out of their room at the crack of dawn to leave fido unattended and miserable. Very sad. Final thing: I sincerely love the Spanish language, but it's already a naturally impassioned and loud mother tongue *without* staff members yelling at each other across the property for hours each day. I tried to do a few hours of work from our room, but between the dog next door and the housekeepers everywhere else, it was a tough ask! Might be the best snack bar of any hotel I've stayed in, though.

Yelp
As everyone has said, the rooms are very cute. They have a fireplace for heating and no air conditioning- I stayed in January so that was fine. Some staff were great, others were not, service was very hit-or-miss. The breakfast was decent, but very pastry-heavy, and although it's listed as a complimentary breakfast, I was informed at check out that there is a $40 per person per stay fee to cover the breakfast, bikes, espresso machine in the room, etc, so it's not really complimentary. My biggest complaint was that the room was NOISY. You know it's bad when you get to the room and see that they've supplied earplugs... I was woken before 6am everyday with a garbage truck right outside my window. I chose an upgraded room, and for the price, the noise-level was honestly unacceptable. Overall would I stay here again? No, and would advise others not to as well.

Ryan R.

Yelp
I can only speak for my experience in room 18. Although the staff seemed friendly and decor was nice our room failed to meet some basics needs based on the premium price we paid . This particular room is next to the street so you can expect to hear people speaking outside let alone cars and trash trucks in the early morning. There is a fan but on the 2nd floor it's rather warm forcing you to keep window open. The bed was a rather worn spring mattress with lumpy pillows. Most importantly the showers floor pan was not installed with enough slope keeping 3/4 inch soapy water in the bottom while you shower, hopefully that is addressed above all else...

Yelp
The staff is extremely friendly. The person that checked us in immediately came by with treats and toys for our dogs. Unexpected but fun! The grounds and rooms are clean. Based on the proximity of the hotel to the downtown district, it is very appreciated that there is onsite parking
