"Birmingham’s 40-year-old French patisserie Le Petit Prince has closed its chapter in metro Detroit. The owners of the shop, which went dark several months ago, have been seeking an exit towards retirement for several years now as Crain’s reported in June. It appears this fall, they finally achieved that goal. “It was with overwhelming emotion that we handed over the keys to a new owner, who will draft her own story,” the owners wrote in a lengthy farewell on Facebook on December 28." - Brenna Houck

"Le Petit Prince’s owners, Marcel and Yvette Didierjean, are looking towards retirement but struggling to find someone to take over. They have tried closing down in the past but eventually reopened. Over the past few months, they’ve begun cutting back on hours and are now getting the price of the business evaluated, potentially listing it for sale this summer." - Brenna Houck

We are so lucky to have this gem nearby. The owners are French natives. Be careful though, because once you have had their croissants, you'll never want to have a stale supermarket croissant again. Their holiday confections are adorable and delicious. A little bit of France in Birmingham.

We got some pastries for breakfast this morning, and they were so delicious we immediately regretted not buying twice as many! We will be back for sure. The only thing we didn't love was the cash or check only policy because we rarely have either of those on hand, but everything was so tasty that we'll make the trip to the atm.

This is hands-down the best pastry shop in the area. All their stuff is delicious, I usually go for the almond croissant. Their hours can be a little inconvenient to work around, and they don't take care, but of you have the chance be sure to drop in.

I have been going to this bakery for years. The people who run it are extremely nice and very friendly. Better than that, they make incredibly yummy pastries and breads. Very authentic. Try the gallette cookies or the meringue with ganache. Pain au chocolat is fantastic. Their bread is excellent. The pastries are out of this world. The prices are also reasonable. What makes me sad, Dane, is that they are closed for a whole month in the summer to visit France.

Not sure if people’s just drive by this place and have no clue what it is, but it is by far the most authentic and delicious French bakery in the area. Pan au chocolate and croissants are to die for . All sorts of butter and almond cookies and breads . Cakes and Palmier. They take checks or cash. You can’t go in without leaving with a bag of stuff and eat half of it in your car on the way home.

I checked their hours on google and Facebook and they both said they’re open until 2 on Sundays so I made the 2.5hrs round trip to find out that their hours are wrong everywhere online and they were closed. 2.5 hours. And they were closed. The croissants are amazing though, if you can figure out what times they’re even open??

I find these pastries/cakes to be unidimensional and safe in flavor. Lacking depth, richness, creativity and flavor. That’s according to my taste. It’s something I’d expect from an amateurish home cook not from a long term establishment. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still good, just not excellent and if you’re on a cheat day you’d be disappointed to wait a week or longer and ingest all these carbs and sugars. Very disappointed. Again this is my subjective opinion. I don’t recommend them nor will I be giving them another try any time soon.

I've never been to France; but I believe this establishment would thrive there. I have enjoyed so many delightful treats and breads from Le Petit over the years. How lucky we are to have a slice of France in B'ham.
