The Best Places to Eat and Drink in Pointe-St-Charles | Eater Montreal

"The cozy and cute vibes of Le Petit Sao are guaranteed to please, particularly with its colourful Tonkinese soups and vermicelli bowls. Catering to both lunch and dinner crowds, this family-run Vietnamese stronghold features other highlights such as imperial rolls, papaya salad, or the General Sao — a bowl of fried cauliflower (or grilled chicken) and rice." - Daniel Bromberg

The Best Places to Eat at Montreal’s Atwater Market | Eater Montreal

"Possibly the cutest stand at the Atwater Market, Le Petit Sao has been serving up snackable Vietnamese fare like bahn mi and pho for the past three summers. Be sure to try a refreshing homemade lemonade or Vietnamese iced coffee as well." - Mallory Frayn

Just landed and working my way to my hotel. Needed a bowl of Pho to warm up my senses. French and Vietnamese cuisine go hand in hand right? Found this place on google and saw some great reviews. Great decor but unfortunately I think the food fell short. Noodles were not throughly cooked. Size was a little small in comparison to the pricing. Broth was “eh”. Coffee was sort of bland. I’m pretty critical coming from Vancouver. Having a Hispanic and white girl serving me sort of trippy though. This area is predominantly more local Montrealers as I saw a lot coming in while I was leaving. Like I said, I rate compared to pricing. Will check out downtown / Chinatown this week to see what else I can find. Oh another thing, upon paying, I asked to borrow a plug for 5 minutes to charge my phone to call an Uber. Completely out of juice from the long flight. Could overhear the boss who declined. Great start to my Montreal trip! This has nothing to do with the food rating though. Lived in Vietnam and Pho it up all over the world.

Overall, the Vietnamese food here is okay, but definitely not authentic. We tried both the pork and chicken bowls. The meat was good, but the fish sauce didn’t have much flavor, which kind of ruined the dish. Wouldn’t recommend the iced coffee—it’s nothing like Vietnamese coffee. And $6.50 for a regular filter coffee? That’s just too much. Also, the service is not very good. I had to remind them three times for extra napkins

Very good food. Large portions (you can take a doggy bag). Reasonable prices.

I had high expectations for this place, but it was a complete letdown. First off, the food was way too expensive for what you get. The portions were small, and the quality was mediocre at best—definitely not worth the price. The pho tasted very old and was cold when served, the taste was meh 🫤 and expensive for what it is. The restaurant itself wasn’t well-maintained. The toilet was disgusting—dirty floors, a bad smell, and toilet paper scattered everywhere. It was clear that no one was checking or cleaning it regularly. The service was just as bad. The staff were obviously part-time students with no hospitality experience. They were rude, loud, and completely unprofessional, chatting and laughing amongst themselves instead of attending to customers. It felt like they had no idea what they were doing, and they certainly didn’t care. Overall, this was a terrible experience. Overpriced food, poor hygiene, and awful service. Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

A lovely experience with kind service. The bowls are huge and delicious. Shrimp chips were not what I had expected, but very satisfying. The fried wontons are a great appetizer come with a sweet sauce. Perfect side to a rich bowl of pho! Jasmin iced tea is refreshing and sweet! The limo jade drink has a particular taste, great if you like coconut and grass.

I wanted to like this place, I really did. MC pho is my Brossard go-to pho restaurant but it's closed today, I guess it wouldn't hurt if I'd try a new place, Sao Sao was jumping to my face, however it didn't stand up to my expectation...at all. The restaurant is actually well decorated. The server was nice and cute, too. BUT, the spicy beef rice noodles, also known as bun bow hue, were a big miss to me. First of all, the noodles were way too undercooked. When it comes to cook these kind of thick rice noodles , you have to soak them into hot water for a couple of hours ( at least 30 minutes), then you can cook them into perfection, however, I don't think the cook here knows this technique like every other pho restaurants out there. The rice noodles are too hard to chew. Even bending them is difficult. Second, the broth was not even hot, not tasty at all. This lemongrass flavor was missing, due to the lemongrass chunck that they use was sitting in the fridge too long, I assume. And the meat was nearly fresh, for spicy beef soup , I don't expect lots of flavorless prok stew in there. Big disappointment. The curry chicken bowl (p4)was pretty standard. That was the only reason that I rate this place 3 stars. Oh, one last thing, they don't have basil ...
