In October we stayed one night next door. The stay was nice. Upon arrival in Rekem we decided to have a drink/aperitif here. It looked cosy and inviting as we walked by. The staff immediately asked for a reservation, which we didn’t have. She had to discuss if we could sit (at this point the restaurant was empty) we were the first guests. Either way, she welcomed us. It was distanced and not what one would expect. Nevertheless, after ordering a snack and prosecco and chatted a bit albeit I spoke NL but switched to ENG because my friend only spoke Eng/French. The staff would only respond in flemish/dutch. We left approx.45 min after as we wanted to eat at 8pm. After paying the whopping bill of €82,50 it didn’t make sense to return as it is very steep for basic food.
2x glasses of cremant €24
1x comte croquet €24 (3x pieces)
1x festin kroketten €26 (3x pieces)
1x bottle of water €6,50
We were very surprised but maybe croquets are special in this little village.
Not sure but be warned!
At 8pm on our way to eat elsewhere, we passed by the restaurant and it was still empty. So we didn’t understand the ‘conversation meeting’ if we could have a drink/snack.
We ate opposite at the cafe restaurant and the bill was the same amount for full meal: 2x main,2x beers, 1x water, 1x cafe, 1x starter
Honestly - I don’t think they are accustomed to welcome ‘others’ race. There is hardly any traffic in that village.
