7 Great Day & Weekend Trips From Paris

"Le Plongeon nails it on all counts. The warm service is accommodating (the prix fixe has no vegetarian mains that day? No problem, you can order two appetizers and they’ll adjust the price). The food—like zucchini velouté with confit lemons and cucumbers, or lightly-seared tuna with grilled squash swimming in fennel purée—is fresh and colorful. The glass-walled dining room is airy and bright, and the big terrace out front, set back from a relatively quiet street and facing a church and blooming bougainvillea, is sunny, even in the winter. Take a seat outdoors and go full vacation-mode with a frozen cucumber cocktail. Reserve if you can, but you shouldn’t have too much trouble walking in if you don’t." - sophie friedman

Absolutely amazing food in a great area that is more quite area. Menu is set and limited options, but the quality of the ingredients and the flavor was delicious.

Fantastic restaurant. Everything is very simple. You choose the standard of wine you want to pay. They then let you try two different types from that price band. It works very well. The menu is also really simple, with just a few options per course, depending on what is available. Food and wine are both very good. The staff are great too, very helpful and make sure you feel comfortable. Would strongly recommend it if you are looking for food in the area. Great views also.

What a gem! Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. We were made to feel really welcome and our waiter was so lovely, it was really appreciated to be offered a choice of wines after tasting each. Food was beautiful, the ricotta starter was superb. The restaurant was so cosy and had a lovely atmosphere.

Unbelievable hidden gem! Everything we ate was flawless, and the service was so welcoming & attentive. Such a lovely atmosphere on a quiet Tuesday evening. Can’t recommend this more highly!

Le plongeon is an absolute gem for lunch in Marseille. The service is exceptional—fast, accommodating, and genuinely friendly. They offer a well-priced lunch menu that includes an appetizer, a main course, and dessert. The rillettes were deliciously rich, and the tuna was grilled to perfection. Every detail, from the warm welcome to the quality of the dishes, made for a memorable experience. We highly recommend it! We paid 80€ for two people!

Small, chef owned and run restaurant (chef is from Lyon, the food capital of a famously food-obsessed country!). We had dinner twice during our week stay in Marseilles. Menu and wine options are limited but the food is exquisite. Outstanding service and a quiet, picturesque location just two blocks from the bustling old port. Highly recommended.

I found a big piece of plastic in my tarte!! They made me pay for the dish with the plastic despite me not being able to continue eating it ! To make up for it I was ‘graced’ with a pork pate, pork enchantions next to a pork dish. Totally classless. I tried, not edible unfortunately Terrible. Hardly any food at all on our plates during a lunch service. Fix menu for 26 euro and we barely got anything. Bad price - performance. The server is whistling while working, just not the premium I expected to receive. Disappointing.. Despite it all the restaurant likes to call it “hate” I myself would have preferred to provide a quality lunch service before having the audacity to comment back at a review…. Thanks for the bad food?
