The oysters especially the petite ones were the perfect texture and size, the horseradish freshly graded and pomegranates brought things up a notch. The bread was delicious the right level between soft and crisp. The tiki cocktail had quite a few unique flavors I would definitely try it. The star of the drinks was an espresso martini just tasted like straight perfect expresso. The hangar steak with the shallot red wine sauce was out of the this world especially the sauce I could not stop dipping my fries in it. The homemade cavatelli with mushrooms porcini and truffle cream was flavorful creamy but not too heavy or earthy. The service was great and the staff were friendly. I would definitely go back.

Google
We picked this restaurant from the Google review and search. Overall , we enjoy our dinner right from the start to finish. The seafood platter has two types of oysters. One is from PEI and the other is from Northern Quebec. We ordered extra local Quebec Choux oysters. The French onion soups use sweet onion. The New Steak is well made with nice French Fries. The Crème brûlée is very tasty. The Strawberry and Mango sorbets are high recommended as a finish of the highly enjoyable dinner.

Google
Really tasty food at a fair price! Everything was fresh and well presented. The vibe on the terrace was great, and the decor made it even better. Super friendly staff too; would definitely go back!

Google
We went twice during our trip and would recommend to anyone! We first went for lunch and had the best French onion soup I’ve ever had in my life. Our waiter Andrew was wonderful and so kind as to recommend several other dishes, so we ended up changing our dinner plans the final night of our trip to return. The salmon tartare, mushroom cavatelli, lamb steak, and profiteroles were all 10/10. Big thank you to both Andrew and Tony for top notch service and recommendations!

Google
The staff here are some of the friendliest I’ve ever dealt with. The food was a little pricey, but it was totally worth the cost—one of my favourite steaks ever. The atmosphere in here is really classy too. This would be a great place to take someone you want to impress.

Visiting Montreal for the first time was an unforgettable experience, and when in Montreal, you eat as the French do! At Le poison Penche from the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warmth and hospitality. The Duck skin was crispy and the meat tender, Brussel sprouts cooked perfect and the sauce simply divine. The server/bartender was not only knowledgeable but also incredibly kind, making the experience even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was absolutely beautiful—relaxing, elegant, and never too loud. The service was impressively fast, and the food? Simply incredible! Every bite was bursting with flavor. I had an amazing time and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic and delightful dining experience in Montreal. Made my birthday so special 💗

Google
We celebrated my birthday at this wonderful restaurant and were fortunate to have Mina as our server. Let me tell you, Mina is an absolute gem—she’s hands-down, the best server we’ve ever had! We told her we wanted to practice our French, and even though we were pretty terrible at it, she patiently helped us understand everything with a warm smile. The rigatoni maison aux crevettes tigrées was a flavor explosion and a must-try, and my fiancée was over the moon with the lamb. Mina’s perfect wine pairings elevated our meal, making my birthday dinner truly unforgettable. A huge thank you to the kitchen and staff for an incredible experience—we had such a blast! When we come back to Montreal, we will definitely visit again.

Google
This renowned French restaurant offers a taste of Paris in downtown Montréal. The décor was elegant and the service was exemplary. The long and complete wine list offered excellent choices. The food was delicious, featuring classic French fare with a local twisted. The duck confit boasted crispy skin and tender meat. The bouillabaisse was outstanding, simmered perfectly to extract all the flavor. The Paris-Brest was a must-enjoyed dessert.

Yelp
While in Montreal to attend the Grand Prix Race my friend and I discovered this gem. We visited three times in three days. The team personalized our experience like they read our minds. Dessert and cocktails, dinner, afternoon oysters...'what are you thinking today'...'so happy to see you back today'... 'Let's find you a seat'. The team offered insight into special places to see and places to eat in Old Town. I instantly felt a home away from home. Each time we came in the team remembered us and shared thoughts on what we could try today. The seafood is fresh, the wine list is amazing and the music is a cool vibe. I also loved the diversity of the guests and met some new friends. The team, the food, the wine and the atmosphere set this restaurant apart from other big city places I've visited around the world. I hope you have the opportunity to experience this amazing place.

Yelp
Nice vibe. Sometimes they have live music. I have been here several times and I have never been disappointed - the food and service has always been on point. Make a reservation if you have a large group. They are usually booked up.

Yelp
This place was a great find for lunch The seafood platter was so fresh and delicious. The monkfish and vegetables were beautifully prepared. I can't leave out the delicious salon tartare starter. This is an upscale French brasserie that made us feel like we were in Paris instead of Montréal. Johnny gave us outstanding service

Yelp
We had a layover/missed connection in Montreal and ended up spending a day in town. Although we were disappointed, it ended up being a blessing in disguise because this meal was AMAZING! The spot itself is a little fancy but not too stuffy. Dress for the occasion and be prepared for a great experience. Excellent and attentive service. Fresh and delicious ingredients. Tasty cocktails. Fresh bread (omg... so good). It was honestly a great way to start our day! The consensus for the #1 dish was the mushroom cavatelli with porcini cream and truffle... Seriously, words cannot describe this dish. All four of us devoured the plate and agreed it was one of the best pasta & mushroom dishes we'd ever had. I highly recommend this spot!

Yelp
Came here for dinner with friends before hitting the Depeche Mode concert at the Bell Centre. None of us were complaining about the food, the oysters were great, my steak tartare with fries and salad were perfectly fine, my friends had the steak, shrimp cocktail, French Onion soup and duck and I did not hear a complaint among any of them. The only drawback for me was how freaking loud the place is. We were having a mini-reunion of sorts, friends from elementary school who I hadn't seen in over 40 years so it would have been nice to carry on a normal conversation without yelling at each other. Also the waiter was kind of lacksadaisical, we had to flag him down everytime we needed something, when for the prices you pay here, they should already be on the ball.

Yelp
The duck confit was done so well and the wine (and even the carafe!) selection was great! The only thing that made this an uncomfortable visit was how one of the servers just didn't acknowledge me properly and primarily looked at (and to) the person I was dining with to confirm my menu choices. Perhaps it was flirting with the man I was with or simply a disdain for eye contact or taking food orders from a woman, but it made me uncomfortable enough that I remember itThe food was pretty good, so four stars are well deserved! The soup I had was not my favourite flavour wise (slightly too salty), but the main course more than made up for it! The live singer was the icing on the cake and made for a lively environment! I won't be back, but I'm glad to have eaten well while I was there!

Yelp
Great French onion soup, oysters, and cocktails! The servers are extremely attentive as well. Will return the next time I am in Montreal

Yelp
We found this great French restaurant walking distance from our hotel. The hostesses and server were very friendly and professional. The food was pricey but well worth it. This was the best French food during our short stay in Montreal

Yelp
My husband and I wanted some French food and realized that this restaurant was very close to our hotel. This restaurant did not disappoint. We both had an excellent dinner with an amazing service. The hostess was so nice and accommodating. The waiter was spectacular and did not miss a beat. I had the small raw seafood platter and it was delicious. The oysters were very small, but amazingly tasty. There were two sets of 6 and both were tasting amazing. My husband had the steak frites and enjoyed every single last bites. The ambiance is also very nice. The place looks very clean as well. I know it's something strange to say, but hey, when it's clean, you notice! Would highly recommend.

Yelp
Great French Brasserie. We sat at the counter because it was packed and we didnt have a reso but it was just fine. Lively and busy vibe. The lamb chops and hanger steak were both great and the fries were outstanding. Our service Monica was super attentive and we really enjoyed the experience.

Yelp
After walking all day long at the Underground City, I can honestly say that I couldn't feel my feet anymore. Heading back to our hotel without any booked dinner reservations, we decided to just see what was open on the way back. We came across this fancy-exterior French restaurant. Feeling hesitant because I was not dressed up, we still went in and the host in a very stylish and fashionable tight fitted suit was more than happy to seat us. The interior is chic and posh with sexy velvet chairs. I would normally get dressed up for a place like this. But the entire time we dined here, they didn't make me feel otherwise. I'm surprised by some of the reviews where they said the service was snobbish. Our waiter, Gabriel (I hope I got his name right) was attentive and had a smile on his face the entire time. We didn't order any wine or cocktails but I asked if they had mocktails. He said that he will have the bartender mix something nice for me and my son. First up...warm fresh bread with butter, butter, butter!! Yesss~ For apps we had one of the best foie gras we have ever had. There was a nice saltiness to it and the homemade fig jam was lovely. My son eyed my last bite and I let him have it. Their crab cake was also amazing. French cuisine is one of my top 2 faves. Anything to do with sauces, they are just masters of. I had a seafood dish where the broth was to die for. I was so happy that a huge spoon was given, proper or not, I drank it like soup. My son had the Gold Strip NY Steak cooked rare and it was perfectly seasoned. As we end our trip here in Montreal. I would like to say that the service we experience here in this city has been one of the best.

Yelp
We just happened upon this restaurant. We are so glad we did! Seated promptly, outdoor dining, excellent food and attentive staff.

Yelp
This place was a couple of blocks from my hotel. The food was amazing, the service was on point, and the ambiance was lovely. Its french cuisine, the mussels in white wine were delicious, the duck confit was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the steak frite was on point, and desserts were life giving. Def give this place a try if you are in Montreal.

Yelp
Magnificent. The French onion soup was particularly outstanding. Very nice service too. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The food and service is outstanding. Be sure to make a reservation as the restaurant is always packed

Yelp
Oooof, the service was so bad. Food was great and the bistro did look nice. But I can't get over how the service was just doing the minimum. He looked annoyed by our presence. My only reason to go back would be to sit at the bar near the action. That could be entertaining. But at that price point, I expect everything to be good including the service.

Athletik S.

Yelp
best meal of our trip to montreal and qc wonderful spot right next to Le Mont Stephen and much bettter than Bar George!.Best service BY FAR of our weeklong trip .Waiter could not have been better...just wonderful. Had salad and hangar steak that was absolutely terrific with great frites.Fish dishes excellent as well. .Drinks wonderful. Ate outside great to people watch. Really was the perfect meal, The next night ate at Bar George -no comparision in quality. Will definitely be back

Yelp

Timothy S.

Yelp
Such a reliable spot. Consistent food. Love the place. However a recent decision to remove Orita from behind the bar has me mystified. She was the perfect bar tender with excellent experience but for some reason the manager put her on the floor and has hired a series of amateur inexperienced men to fill her spot! It doesnt make sense. Some of them dont even know how to make a simple vodka and tonic without screwing it up! And dont even think of oredering a Margaritta. I have never had one made with club soda before! Please bring back Orita! as her regulars miss her!
google avatar

Thuy B.

Yelp
Very nice restaurant. Authentic french dishes. We try the "soupe bouillabaisse" and we were delighted. The mussels were so fresh and well done. Customer service was very nice. It was a good experience

Randy R.

Yelp
One of the best French cuisine in Montreal. Service is adequate depending on how crowded is the place. Ambiance of a real brassiere

Jill S.

Yelp
Incredible dining experience. Best espresso martini EVER! Food was fantastic as was the service. Highly recommend! Loved the ambiance, velvet chairs so comfy!!!

Mike D.

Yelp
Such a disappointment! Read good reviews but I had a terrible meal. Thought I was getting real white fish and it turned out to fish pudding-whatever that is. Told waitress-Tamara-that it not edible-she was so sweet and kind. She spoke with chef and he explained the dish to her. She apologized many times for not knowing herself what it was. The manager did not offer to comp the meal. Very disappointing. I should have sent it back after the first bite, but I have never done that. Won't happen again.
google avatar

John Z.

Yelp
I would give 6 star if I could. Best service so far for our trip in Canada. I also specifically loved these songs during our dinner time. Food is excellent too. The salmon is tender inside and crispy outside. Duck is cooked very well and tasted marvelous. Highly recommend to anyone who likes authentic French food! We can enjoy good French food in North America!! BTW, food price is very reasonable, not expensive at all if you consider the food quantity.

Aaron R.

Yelp
I came here for lunch after checking into my hotel in the area on the recommendation of the hotel concierge. The food was really quite impressive. I got a salmon dish and my partner got a pasta. Both were very tasty and cooked perfectly. The service was great. The offer outdoor seating on the sidewalk but also have large doors that open to the outside for tables near the windows. I would certainly come back if I am in the area in the future.

David T.

Yelp
Server was new with no follow up from management. 5 of 6 meals ok. 6th was undercooked salmon which was sent back 2 times. My view of kitchen showed a cook gesturing wildly. The sou maître d' stood over my wife attempting to intimidate the last return. Everyone has bad nights but experience should be a warning to others that le Pois has passed its "best before date".
google avatar

Calvin S.

Yelp
3.5/5, +.5 for service Dined here for New Years Eve and they had a prix fixe menu. My rating may change if I end up trying the regular menu, but 3.5 stars works decent for the quality I got. The prix fixe menu was a five course menu that included a "dessert" in the middle and at the end. All dishes were beautifully crafted and tasted just as great. The portions weren't huge though, and I left not completely full. Price point was a bit higher than expected, but that's on par with New Years Eve prices. Service was excellent. I'll consider giving this place another try on a regular night in future travels here.

Sylvia P.

Yelp
Very nice! Came here on our first night. Relaxing, great food and service was tres bien
google avatar

SS S.

Yelp
Walked in a little late than our reservation time, but thankfully the kitchen was still open. The hostess give us a small lecture about the kitchen closing in 10 Mins..lol, but our server was very nice and asked us not to worry. We wanted a light lunch as we had dinner reservations in a few hours. We tried the dozen oysters, salmon tartar(entree size that came with a salad),Pinot Grigio wine and our son had the Mac and cheese. Every item was well presented and our server got us fresh bread out of the oven. Highly recommend this place. We enjoyed a delicious and relaxed meal.
google avatar

Stan C.

Yelp
Lunch extravaganza! I had their veal bavette and my lunch companion had a lamb steak. Both were fabulous, especially as the wine pairing suggested by the maitre d'hotel was spot on. Service was polished, friendly, and comfortable which elevated the experience to 5 stars.
google avatar

Shirley T.

Yelp
Had my Parisian brunch experience here and totally enjoyed our server, the food and the atmosphere was lovely. The decor gives a taste of Paris We enjoyed our burgers The chocolate mousse was divine!
google avatar

Susan C.

Yelp
Just a block from our hotel and lovely bistro. Fabian our host and Louis G took very good care of us. Mussels excellent, and burrata salad plus mushrooms all tasty, Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jasmine M.

Yelp
This was my fave pre covid brunch place & still my go to during covid for take out . It is sad to see a place as iconic as this one empty because normally it's lively and there is live music . Today I got the salmon tartare, salade nicoise, salade betterave and a bunch of other stuff for myself and the family for the next two days because why not . The food is fresh, smells amazing and tastes like it was made with love . The only downside , which I mentioned to the owner already ,was the signage for pick up because it only indicated the 3rd party pick ups ( Ubereats etc) so I was a little confused about where to go for pick ups but I figured it out .
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
Excellent steak frites. The salmon tartare was also very good. Service was so-so
google avatar

Robert L.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my meal(Lamb) as I was a little worried as on yelp many said the service was very poor. But we had excellent service along with excellent food.

Andreas W.

Yelp
The food was very good and the service very attentive. However, for the prices they charge, I expected a "wow" factor and that just wasn't there. The other thing is, they have an upstairs and a basement. When we arrived, there were plenty of open tables upstairs, yet we were seated downstairs where there was only one other couple. We were told "not to worry, there will be more people" and a few more tables were seated during our meal. Yet when we were done, there were still open tables upstairs, where it was a lot brighter (windows!) and more lively. No idea how they decide, but unless you want to avoid being seen, insist on an upstairs table.

Lu W.

Yelp
Found out my early complain might not be related to this restaurant. I was hearing loud music from my hotel room and thought it was from them
google avatar

Jackie S.

Yelp
This review isn't about the food, it's about the service. The food is fine, nothing spectacular, but the service is FIVE STARS. It's been a while since I felt so taken care of by restaurant staff. I came with two friends and we did the prix fix dinner for $25/person, and we wanted to share a bottle of wine. We all have different tastes and our waitress was amazing. Not only did she know the extensive wine list inside and out, she also brought the sommelier on board to help us find a bottle everyone would be happy with. The wine was EXCELLENT and honestly, it humbles me to say the whole experience was made by the wait staff at this spot.

V J.

Yelp
In one word, food is fine, service is catastrophic. I've been there several times never been treated like this. My last time was accompanying a distinguish scientist from USA. We went there for a proper dinner, and without reservation, the checkin lady said there's only seats at the bar. I asked whether we can sit outside and the lady said no. We think it's ridiculous to have dinner at bar so we immediately left, and the lady yelled as we stepping out "oh actually there are table for two." We stayed but during the total three hours from 7 to 10, there are plenty of seats outside never been unoccupied. They had seats in the very beginning and didn't want us to sit there. It's insane and ridiculous. Anyway we stayed. The waiter is fine but only feel warm after we ordered several wines. In the beginning we didn't get bread and even water and any kind of services until we ordered our first drink and appetiser and I asked for bread and water. They are just so snobbish and perhaps racist and the owner of the restaurant need to consider a proper staff training. I'd probably never go there again though food again is pretty good.
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
We didn't make a reservation on a Friday night but were seated at the bar while we waited for a table to open up. The bartenders are so friendly and attentive! We started with two glasses of wine - they mainly have bottles so the selection by the glass is limited. I also just loved the very classic French vibe of the entire restaurant that we almost just changed our minds and stayed at the bar for our meal, but just as we were about to order, they told us that our table was ready - which ended up being a great spot next to the windows. We ordered mussels as an appetizer, which were pretty fresh and had a great soup base. We both ended up getting the duck confit, which came on top of brussel sprouts. The duck was a little dry on the inside and not as flavorful as some of the skin and outer bits, but this was solved by eating it together with some of the more nicely seasoned brussel sprouts and sides that came with it.
google avatar

Joanie M.

Yelp
I've heqrd a lot about this place before and I was thrilled to try it. It's an absolutely gorgeous and well designed establishement but i feel the half lit name banner outside tells a lot about the restaurant, a little run down and a little nonchalent. As far as food goes, there was some hit and miss but nothing very flavorsome except for the cheese plate. It was fresh enough but overall just ok. The first bites looked like some amuse bouche for a cocktail, just some terrine on a cracker and a foie gras sandwich that was overwhelmed by an extremely sweet sauce. The tartare was bland, the pasta tasted like mac n cheese with duck dropped on it We tried to get sparkling water and it took forever to get it. We were given just a glass of it and never managed to get more during the whole meal.
google avatar

Irene D.

Yelp
I finally came here for Mtl à table. I had a 3-course meal for $33. As an appetizer, I had the escargot which were delightful. Very flavorful and just wow! For the main, I chose the seafood cavatelli for an additional $5. Personally, I expected more. It was good, but not great. As dessert, I had the maple crème brulée. It was excellent. I feel the service was a bit rushed, but very friendly in the same time. The decor is stunning and would like to return, but just for a drink and oysters at the bar.
google avatar

Davide R.

Yelp
There's no staying in Montreal without having lunch here. Never disappointed even this time I have tried the ostrich plate dream and superb and the mules.. once more congrats
google avatar

Gurvinder K.

Yelp
This place has a great feel with the French flare. I can only say positive things about the food. I went there with a group of 9, everyone was impressed with their choices. But when it comes to service...all I can say is it's also rather francaise. The waiters were horrible when it came to requests and being timely. The table ordered a seafood platter to share, so ALL the seafood cutlery came out and was placed on the bread plate (without asking who is actually having it...). When the other appetizers started coming out, they ran out of space on the table... so made the decision to remove the bread plates. They just went around the table yanking away the plates leaving the cutlery to scatter all over and making SO much noise. And we were left with no bread plate!! I even had to ask 3x for herbal tea!!!

Yelp
Amazing service from Nathan from start too finish. Amazing mains and deserts. Wine and ambiance. 100% recommendation from me.

Yelp
Helping my local restaurants with curb side pick up and or delivery. We're at @lepoispenche with @imadnabwani and what a feast of French Culinary perfection. My food travelled well and tasted amazing as you can see from my pics. I've promised myself every Saturday night dinner will be dedicated to a local restaurant. Let's help them survive @ Le Pois Penche

Yelp
A nice little bistro with good service, decent prices, and a good classic menu. We actually stopped by this place while walking to a different restaurant that I found on Yelp; the menu looked good so we stopped here instead. The hostess was very welcoming and we were promptly seated. We ended up with a dozen oysters, foie gras terrine, and I had the steak frites. The oysters were a great deal, fresh and briny. I probably could have just eaten oysters all evening. The foie was nicely presented and a reasonable serving to share. The steak was good, although I thought the frites were too limp for my taste. I started with a boulevardier cocktail, and I'm always grateful for restaurants/bars where I don't have to explain what that is! The cocktail was balanced and delicious. Looking at some of the other tables, there are definitely other good looking, classic dishes here, so I'd go back to try more.

Neil N.

Yelp
An outstanding dinner. The vichyssoise and salad were excellent. The bouillabaisse and fish special were also great. Our server recommended a nice wine, and the Profiteroles were a perfect ending.
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
Classic French restaurant with all the menu items you are looking for. We dined on a Sunday night since we could not get reservations for a Saturday night even when booking a month out. Service was exceptional and the food divine. Best, I mean BEST French onion soup I have had to date and the portion is large enough to share. Highly recommend asking about nightly specials, the veal I ordered was exquisite in both taste and texture. The only miss of the night was the wine. $54 for a bottle of sub-par red was a bit of a letdown. A decent red will set you back $80-$100 here. Content that we dined here but not sure we would dine here again as there are so many great restaurants in the city.

Yelp
Classic French bistro in the heart of Montreal -- with a bit of a fresh, modern attitude. We enjoyed everything we ordered, from the raw Canadian oysters to the black truffle beef tartare, from the mushroom-laced escargot to the solid wine list. If you're in town and looking for a delicious, quaint, yet hip bistro - this is your place.
