A 10-Year Anniversary Dinner at Le Pressoir
For our 10-year wedding anniversary, we chose Le Pressoir for a special evening. The setting was elegant and comfortable, with cute orchids placed throughout the dining room, and the service was attentive without being intrusive.
We had the glass of champagne that came recommended by the waiter and we were off to a good start.
We ordered the two signature tasting menus: the Saveurs menu (88 €) and the Collection menu (105 € for three courses or 130 € for four). This allowed us to try a wide range of dishes and share each plate. We had to drive after dinner and as the restaurant is certainly off the beaten path we had to forgo on the wine tasting menu, but we did each have a glass of red and shared a liquor after.
The majority of the dishes were well balanced and exquisite. We found the Chair d’araignée en croustillant from the Saveurs menu paired spider crab with avocado, mango and curry in a crisp shell to be just a tad too heavy, would have been perfect without the avocado. From the Collection menu, the ventrèche de thon rouge was served with pipérade and vegetables and the foie gras (usually not something we enjoy) was exquisite.
For mains, the Saveurs canette normally combined duck with peach, mint and chorizo. But was now switched out for a pescatarian option, a heavy and filling piece of perch. The Collection’s homard came with artichoke, tomato and mushroom. Several courses, were served with polished silver cutlery and on gorgeous plates, which added a traditional touch to the experience.
The cheese course (les fromages affinés de Kérouzine) was served with salad and cider jelly. It was followed by desserts: the Saveurs abricot with lavender, verbena and cardamom, and the Collection fraise with basil, pepper and lemon caviar. The chef also surprised us with a small tasting of biscuits to end the meal.
Wine pairings are available (39 € for Saveurs). The overall experience was calm, well-paced and satisfying.
Verdict: Le Pressoir made our anniversary a memorable occasion. The tasting menus offer a clear expression of the chef’s style and are worth trying for a special meal. Worth every penny!
And apropos of nothing, the parking lot is gorgeous too.
