The Best Bars in Quebec City | Eater Montreal

"Even though it could feel like you’re walking into a former Victorian bordel, the only pleasure here is served on tap. Projet features an exhaustive list of Québec-brewed beers and ciders to please every beer lover. There’s good food on offer, although service can be spotty." - Allison Van Rassel

Google
Here for a late meal with our kids, we felt so welcomed. Our server was incredibly patient which is always so appreciated. The kitchen even did an extra order for us after they closed because we LOVED the fried chicken so much. Also the coleslaw.. omg I would have bought a bucket of it if that was a possibility. Beers, food, service all top top notch!

Google
Great mood here. The beers are OK, just a bit smooth, but they are effective alcohol wise. I tried the 16 and 21 - a porter and witbierbut ended up ordering the number 23 which was a 9.5% red berry beer. I'm not usually a sweet alcohol fan but this one wasn't but and it was effective. A bit sour/ tart but still pretty thin flavor like the other beers. My feedback would be too concentrate the flavor of possible or experiment with different points of specific gravity.

Google
Vibe is top. Smash burger was good. Poutine was cold and very little gravy. Gaspard Picnic Lager was the best amongst lagers, a bit too smooth tho. Stout was great. After my first pint, I ordered 2 glasses, when I saw the bill, the glass was only $1.5 less than the pint, what!! The waiter should have told me

Google
Stumbled upon this place when looking for a late afternoon drink and meal on a rainy day. It must have been our lucky day because it was fantastic. Great selection of beers with friendly bar staff offering tastings to help choose from the varied selection. Soup of the day (turnip and lentil) was unusual, but awesome. Nachos were the best I have had in a long time (make sure you ask them to include the pulled ribs) and the quality of the dried sausage was way better than I expected. The building itself is very nice with some quite fancy features. I would be happy to recommend to anyone.

Google
A little hidden gem I Quebec City. 🙏🏼😁 Many great beers and ciders - that changes every day - written on a huge blackboard on the wall… you can get a “tasting menu” with 4 beers so you can have a little of everything… you MUST try the sour ones… wow wow wow. 😁🍻 You can also eat there… not the biggest menu… but most of it is very good. 😁 maybe the best burger in town served with HOMEMADE fries 🙏🏼 but then again the fried chicken is one of the worst I’ve ever had… tasteless and uninspired… they should take it off the menu… if I only had that I wouldn’t return… the chili/spicy mayo served with it was amazing though…! BUT then again one bad thing doesn’t make the place bad… the salmon tatare was very good and the fish and chips was very very good… so all in all a very nice place with good food, amazing beers and nice service. Take a moment to treat yourself with a visit 😁

Google
" Menu in first pic " Very nice and friendly staff. I ordered the wings with a veggie burger and both were on point for the piece it was! Beer served cold and we had a perfect view by the window! Very nice and pleasant night out

Google
The best place to get craft beer!! They have so many options. You can try the tasting menu with 4 types of beer. The hamburger is also incredible, the meat was the best and the fries are insanely delicious. There’s a vegan burger as well. A nice vibe, everyone is friendly and bilingual, there’s no problem if you don’t speak French. The service is fast even if the place is full.

Google
Incredibly friendly service, excellent choice of local beers (29 when we visited), and the food is great. Outside of the walls, this is a great little spot for a quick snack and some beers to recover from a long day of walking the old city. Staff is great. We had a wonderful time.

Yelp
I like the ambiance of Le Projet as the light jazz music was played; it was very chill and great for dating or groups would like to have an intimate chat. Compare to other breweries on the street, this is more for people enjoying the drink and relax. Service-wise, all the drinks are written on the blackboard. We did have some language barrier to understand how menu worked. We asked for recommendation based on what we like but the server could not do any recommendations which was pity. We finally decided on the first 2 groups of flights on the menu. Also they decided to close the shop early (1am on Google) because of lack of customers and last drink order was 11pm which didn't give me enough time to order the second round. (Oh well~) The drinks were good and special. The taste was clean and refreshing. We enjoyed all the drinks we ordered. We would love to order more but they are closing. Price was very good compare to Ontario. Love to visit again.

Yelp
4 years after our initial visit, we returned, first in 2022 and then in 2023. This time we had a child with us, which was graciously allowed, even on a busy Friday night. The food and beer were still great and service was timely, friendly, and understanding of our 2 year old! I tried beers from Le Projet and other Quebec beers, all were very good, and I appreciated the diversity of options. In warmer months there are a few outdoor tables, which was lovely.
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
This place is amazing. They have a great list of beers on tap. The white walls and decor are really inviting. The woman bartending during our visit was great. And the food was very, very good. The poutine may be one of the best in all of QC. The chicken wings were shockingly great. Shocking in the sense that I'm from the US and your classic buffalo wings sauce is essentially butter/Cheyenne/vinegar. These wings were not that. And I don't know what the sauce was, but it was delicious. The chicken skewers were also very nice as was the salad we shared. All in all, I would definitely come back here for the beers and the food. Great experience.

Yelp
Our first stop in Quebec. Friendly staff and great food. BBQ poutine was delish as was the orzo salad and smashburger. Staff was knowledgable and made great draft recommendations
google avatar

Jeremy L.

Yelp
Tons of beers on draft here that's all locally brewed. I opted for a Black IPA on their list which turned out to be amazing! Seemed like a good blend of hops from a traditional west coast IPA, chocolate notes from a porter, and the tart from a sour. Amazing blend I've never had before. Wish we had more time to try more beers but this was just 1 of many stops on our walking tour. We also got the traditional poutine with gravy and curds. Came out super hot. Fries were crispy. Gravy and curds were good. Complimented the beer well.
google avatar

Brad G.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in Quebec. I come here every time I go to Quebec. Excellent rotating beer selection. Love their poutine with pulled ribs, burger, brussel sprouts Caesar salad. Friendly staff. Fun atmosphere

Karen W.

Yelp
Found this place after googling micro breweries in Quebec. It was just a couple of blocks from our hotel so gave it a try. Great beer, great food and great service by the friendly staff. We decided to return the last day of our trip. Both the hamburgers and fish&chips were great as were all the beers we sampled. If we ever return to Quebec, we will definitely seek this place out again.

Peaches G.

Yelp
Amazing beer list with tons of local options and super knowledgable waitstaff. We got the salad (so so good) and fried chicken (I will dream about this)... both were fantastic. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
We found this place, using Yelp of course (don't leave home without it) during our day trip to Quebec City from Montreal. It was recommended as a good stop for food and beer, my two favorite things in the world. They do have a great selection of local beers and even some ciders. My girlfriend and I had 2 flights. I had Le Project flight (#2) and my girlfriend had the cider flight (#1). Three out of the four ciders were excellent! Dry and flavorful, the fourth one was too sweet for my taste. Their beers were all good. One was very interesting, it was very herby, it was probably infused with thyme. It was good but I probably wouldn't be able to drink a whole pint. Specially since Canada serves real pints. I was very happy I tried it though since I am sure I've never had an herb beer before. We also had food. We split the burger and fought over who got to eat the best olives I've had in my entire life! Seriously, I don't know if it was the beer talking (probably not all their beers are 5.5 abv or less) but I almost cried when I was eating them. I would highly recommend this place. Good service, nice atmosphere, good food and beers. What else do you need?
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
Le Projet was a great find on a hot day in Quebec City. My husband and I came in for some drinks and a light snack. I tried one of their 2 sour beer options and my husband tried a flight. My sour was perfect with just the right amount of tartness. We shared the salmon tartare and it was fantastic. It was super fresh and I loved the 2 toppings they had on top (I wish I could say I knew what they were but I do not).
google avatar

Alex A.

Yelp
We came here right before they closed and the host was nice enough to take our orders. It was 10 mins before the kitchen closed. They ran out of 2 things we wanted but it's okay. I opted for wings which were pretty good and thier buffalo sauce was soooo good. It was like buffalo sauce mixed with lemon. Nice lil acid kick. Marinated olives were wonderful. Fries were great. The hummus they made was interesting. I can't pinpoint exactly what they put inside. It was more like a red pepper hummus with..........hmmmm i don't know but it was really good. Nann bread was really nice too. They have a bunch of Quebec craft beer but i chose wine. I forgot what it was exactly but it was so good. She just said spanish mix. The waitress was very nice and spoke english a bit. Next time i come im definately getting some beer. They have A LOT! All written on the chalkboard. Good spot

Yelp
I can't really speak to what this place does best - craft beer, but after a long day of hiking I sure was happy to settle in for a meal here. For a starter, their soup of the day was cream of leek and it was absolutely amazing! Delicate and smooth, but delightfully flavorful. I'm so going to try to replicate at home. After the soup, came the poutine, which was different, but supper yummy. They serve it two ways here; brown (vegetarian!) gravy or bbq sauce to smother crispy fries and melty oooey gooey cheese curds. Or, your kind and thoughtful waitress might recommend that you get a combination of both, and bam! There you go! It's a little sweet, a little tangy and a lot of yum. While I am not a huge olive fan, another fellow helper raved about them here, so I had an order packaged to go. The people at the b&b where I was staying had been having evenings out on the terrace where we all brought a little something to the party and I figured I could bring these and try them out myself. What a hit! I enjoyed them immensely (not the olive fan) and so did the group. May I mention that all of this was incredibly reasonably priced? Good stuff right here. Simple menu, but they are getting it right. Besides, I think most people are there for the beer.
google avatar

Kat H.

Yelp
Awesome people, great beer flights, finger-licking-good food (we had a Brussels salad and beef short rib) and kicking tunes yet not too loud. If this place were in Chicago I'd be there all the time without a doubt. Go here!!
google avatar

Valerie F.

Yelp
Oh my goodness, this place is awesome. My husband came here for lunch on our last day in Quebec City and I wish we had come earlier, because we probably would have come back. We shared the veggie burger and poutine and both were fantastic. The veggie burger was juicy, flavorful, and seasoned to perfection. I don't even really like cumin, but the cumin flavor in the burger was not overwhelming and complimented the other flavors perfectly. The poutine was delicious and the fries were still crispy, not mushy like they can sometimes get. In addition to the fantastic food, their beer list is extensive and reasonably priced. I fell in love with the Roselianne raspberry cider when we were here.
google avatar

Angela M.

Yelp
We had an excellent meal on our last night in town. We enjoyed Le Projet beer, a delicious carrot soup, fish and chips, and poutine. All were very tasty. Our waitress was friendly and answered questions we had about the beers and food.
google avatar

Mick Z.

Yelp
I came here for my birthday dinner and being across the road from my Airbnb was fantastic. It was busy but service is quick and the two staff members that were working were always checking up to see if we needed anymore food and drinks. Food is good and different to what we're used too, beer is nice with loads of different types and having the ability to have them on a sample paddle is a great idea. This place is a must do for the Quebec area
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
Super delicious vegetarian burger and fries! The burger had hints of cumin and onion which are my favorites. Lots of beer choices. I got a pint of local beer with Ginger flavors. I actually loved that the menu was all in French (though I don't speak it) because it felt like a really local place. Beautiful old building with original moldings and ceiling.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Now here is another place I'd have not discovered had my flight back to Portland been canceled due to snow. From what I could tell, this was a local joint, a neighborhood watering hole and gathering spot. Which is fine, because that means something. Always. They had an abundance of beers to choose from, and I only opted for a small charcuterie board to snack on. My beers and food were great, but this place is about the ambience, a slice of life bar in Quebec. Were I a Quebec resident, and lived nearby, it's hard to imagine a cozier, friendlier and more laid back spot. On an early spring night where half a foot of snow got dumped on us all, it was the perfect place to get cozy.
google avatar

Sunit S.

Yelp
Great bar. Huge selection of beers! Very lively and great food. The poutine is vegetarian and it is awesome. Excellent service staff!!!
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
Drinks: 4.5 Decor: 4.5 Ambiance: 5 Service: 4 Value: 4.5 This was such a cool spot. Up until coming here, I was a little disappointed in the local beer/cider scene. This place more than changed that. The flights were excellently curated, and were a great value. Even if they weren't, the awesome architecture of the place alone warrants a visit.
google avatar

Yelp
After our first meal in Quebec turned out to be dreadful, we sought the advice of some locals to guide our dining adventures for the rest of the trip.. we like to do both high end evenings as well as mix in some casual "pub" style nights on every trip. We stuck to their recommendations and can attest they hit a homerun with every meal. This place was our casual pub night.. an obvious fav of the locals as it had a steady familiar stream of people. The waitress was very friendly and engaging, and very patient with our lack of knowledge of the extensive beer selection. We ordered the nachos and poutine as recommended- both were awesome- exactly what we were in the mood for! Best nachos ever. We really wanted to try more but were truly stuffed from the very generous portions. Fun casual memorable experience.
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
SOLID craft beer pub. Great atmosphere/ambience. Especially as it was still summer, and the front windows were open. Had two great craft beers; both awesome. Fresh list on the slate boards, and the servers are also knowledgable and can make recommendations. Good staff, and with just the right amount of attentiveness. This is definitely a spot we will return to on future trips.

Yelp
If you're searching for a gastropub in Quebec City, put down the phone right now and head over to Le Projet. A killer (and reasonably priced) beer list by local standards and excellent food make a winning combination. I thought my stuffed mushrooms and beet salad were excellent, but as soon as I snuck a bite of my wife's bacon chutney burger, it was clear I had made the wrong choice. A juicy and freshly ground burger with sweet onion and savory bacon. Easily the best thing we have eaten in Quebec City.
google avatar

Rebekah K.

Yelp
This place has a great ambience! There is like a raised platform area next to the windows and door, seating below and also at the bar. The food was spectacular! I had the BEST vegetarian burger I have ever had. It was smoky from griddling the party and the bun. My mom had the fish and chips and the batter was perfect, not too thick and very crispy. They have beer flights and the service was also very friendly. We don't speak French and we're greeted kindly.
google avatar

Rick S.

Yelp
Great place for a micro beer or cider from the region. Very comfortable room and laid back vibe. The poutine is spot on. Nice place to spend a couple hours on a cold day in QC
google avatar

Mateo G.

Yelp
I had the burger and my boyfriend had the green salad. Burger was cooked to perfection and the salad was delicious. But the olives. The olives. I don't ever eat olives. I hate the aftertaste, so I avoid them at all costs. But after seeing so many reviews talk about their olives I decided to give them a try. I'm so glad I did!! We were so full we couldn't finish them but I had to take them home for a late night snack. Just watch out because they are not pitted. But if you are not an olive lover, these might be the ones to change your mind! Nice small restaurant. Our waitress was very friendly. Free WiFi. They have a good beer selection. Their mango cider was great!
google avatar

Karthik R.

Yelp
A nice small microbrewery with a good selection of their beers and food. I had their Beau's IPA along with their burger. Both food and beer was very good. The atmosphere was relaxed and staff was nice. Order came fast. A good place to hang out and sample some beers. One thing I didn't see was a beer sampler / flight on their menu.
google avatar

Rachel A.

Yelp
For my one night in Quebec City, this was exactly where I wanted to be: good poutine, good beer, and wonderful staff. I came alone and sat at the bar, and all of the staff were delightful conversationalists (even in English with an American tourist)! Alexie gave me some great local recommendations, and another bartender talked me through a few samples to help me pick a last drink for the night. A really wonderful local spot with great dessert to boot! (The chocolate cake was rich, crumbly, and just divine.) If I lived in Quebec City, I'd be here all the time.
google avatar

Landon T.

Yelp
Good beer and several options, but we would have liked a better selection for bar food options. We recommend this place if you are looking for some good beers.
google avatar

Ada C.

Yelp
There is a long list of craft beers served in different sizes as well as a menu of fairly standard, albeit pretty tasty food choices. Go for the poutine which has excellent gravy and cheese curds.

Jonathan N.

Yelp
Stopped here for a beer and nachos, and we weren't disappointed. The nachos did not skimp on toppings, including cheese, and the only complaint we could invent was there weren't enough tortillas to scoop up all the guacamole, which wasn't extra. In any case, they have a wide variety of microbrewery beers, which should satisfy anyone who goes, and I love the non-touristic area of town, which is right next to the super-touristic area.
google avatar

Jonathan L.

Yelp
A really nice spot and found while walking along the road. They have a great selection on tap (20+ beers). The food looked good, especially the local fav of poutine...def recommend to any and all coming through Ville de Quebec/Quebec City....
google avatar

Dessi V.

Yelp
Stopped for a beer only. The name of the pub was definitely what attracted us to enter and how wonderful is what we found inside. The room is gorgeous, such a beautiful architecture and decoration. The list of beers is available on black boards on the walls and the prices are colour coded. There were a lot of QC brews to choose from, the double IPA truly stood out. The personnel is very friendly. We sat at the bar and enjoyed our beers in the background of cool jazz music. Four stars because the staff allowed one customer to pick slice of lemon from the container with her fingers for her glass of water. Common sense is to offer the lemon in a small plate or give the client fork, spoon or any other tool instead of letting somebody digging into a container with content that will be used for all the other customers. Regardless I will be definitely back for more delicious pints!
google avatar

He Said She Said ..

Yelp
Review for 05/10/2105 He Said: As we wandered around getting our tourist on we searched out a place to get good beer and food. This place popped up and we were amazed we hadn't found it ahead of time. What a great spot for a nooner. Super beer, excellent poutine, great staff. Just the right mix of funky people and quality beer. Our bartendress happened to be from Saguenay and when we mentioned we were going that way, much to her surprise, she recommended Hopera. Bonus! She Said: This place hit the trifecta: good atmosphere, good beer, good food. The recommendation that sent us to Hopera was a nice bonus. Le Projet was an excellent introduction to Quebec. She Said Potty Points: I didn't visit the potty on this visit, so I can't award any points!
google avatar

Keaton N.

Yelp
Excellent place to check out if you're looking for Québécois microbrews. The staff was super helpful, answered all of our questions and made great recommendations. We were able to try several different beers all brewed in Quebec (which is something we love when traveling) and our bartender even brought us an off-menu cider so that we could try "the best." When she arrived at our table, she had not one but two ciders for us! Overall a great spot with friendly staff, great brews, and a great atmosphere.
google avatar

Jeff O.

Yelp
It's a fine place, a bunch of beers and an interesting menu. There are a few things that made it slightly boring, I think if they got away from these things it could be much more tremendous: 1 - The printed menus. Good selections but the laminated menus are so devoid of character. It feels like it's a national brand, rather than a local business. We were really happy to have horse tartare, but it's kind of weird buying it from a font like that. 2 - The tables and chairs are way too boring for the space. The walls and the bar is awesome, but with the regular chairs and tables it seems like TGI Fridays almost. I know they are good but it just seems less would be more. This was recommended by many people. I didn't really have a great experience at any bars, they all felt a little too new for me. It probably would have been better with a few locals to go with. Got horse tartare and a mini poutine here. Was fine.
google avatar

Vish K.

Yelp
Excellent service; fantastic selection of microbrews! The bibloquet is all great , lightly herbed summer drink.
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
Fantastic beer selection especially, Diable au Corps (double IPA) 10% ABV. Friendly staff who know their beers and the bar has a very inviting atmosphere, I would like to live and die here.
google avatar

Simon T.

Yelp
Good beer selection, cool location, food was mediocre. Service was Good, food came out quick, reasonable prices.
google avatar

Kerry W.

Yelp
Happened across this bar/restaurant. Great service, food and ambiance. Exactly what I was hoping to find on our first visit to Quebec City.
google avatar

Dorian M.

Yelp
Very chill spot with a great ambience, good food, and amazing beer. If it wasn't for my no alcohol for a month policy that I have going on right now, I would be there again and writing a more colorful review :). Definitely check it out if good, chill, and beer is your calling.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
The waiter was very helpful with suggestions on the perfect cider for my taste. The Poutine with BBQ sauce and ribs was very good. The smaller dish is the perfect size.
google avatar

Rod M.

Yelp
The staff I cranky and unfriendly, typical of a hipster joint. It the food is good and the beer selection is good. I wouldn't go back.

Diana A.

Yelp
Loved. This. Place. The poutine was GREAT. I also split a burger and the fish and chips with a friend. Both were on point and I realize that this is a big statement but this was the best burger i've ever had. The beer was also yummy and their own cider was delicious. Our waiter and the atmosphere were awesome. If we had had more time in Quebec, we would have come back for another meal.
google avatar

Audrey K.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the beer here. The food was good but it's a limited menu. Great atmosphere and excellent service. A good spot for dinner that isn't overly touristy.
google avatar

Amit C.

Yelp
Great beer selection- food is consistently good and creative- the crowd and staff is always friendly - the new age cheers

Martin H.

Yelp
Nice quaint little brewery. We really liked the New England IPA, though the Session was fine. Didn't order food but would have liked a pint glass with their name on it to add to our collection but they haven't made those yet.
google avatar

Austin G.

Yelp
This microbrew is in a cool part of town with cobblestone streets. It's on a corner and seemed full so we gave it a try. It is like any other microbrewery in any other place in the world. The service was great and the French fries were great (portions were a bit small). My cider was AMAZING!
google avatar

Sue D.

Yelp
We came upon this place after a day of walking all over Quebec city. Hidden off all the main streets we knew this was our kind of place and we weren't disappointed! Really great beer selection and friendly staff. We only ordered beer that night but loved it so much that we ventured back for lunch the next day! The food was all prepared fresh and was delicious. Fun atmosphere with the "locals".

Yelp
Fantastic pub,, great atmosphere, service and very affordable. Going back again tonight
