La Table du Relais du Bois Saint-Georges

"Fall under the spell of this restaurant housed in an old farmhouse, where the chef has a penchant for beautiful seasonal ingredients (sourced from local producers or the aromatic plant garden located in the grounds). Drink in the view of the terrace, fountain and small lake through the bay windows, as you savour calf sweetbread, spatchcock, elderberry – the soft juicy meat makes for a taste sensation!" - Michelin Inspector

We stayed here on our way to and from Spain with our dog. We had easy access to the garden, the restaurant and food are superb and the team are especially helpful, we loved our stay here. The beds are comfortable too which is all important when you are travelling!

Very quirky hotel and our “superior” room was quite shabby. The bed was huge which was great but there was a dip in the mattress which gave me back ache. |The shower had no screen so we used the showers in the pool area instead. The pool isn’t heated, even in January! |We struggled with the heat in the room though, even with the terrace door open and so we slept very poorly. |The ground floor room with direct access to the grass was great for the dog but everywhere was so dark at night we couldn’t see to walk. |We intended eating in the restaurant but the menu was so small with only a choice of fish or veal so we had to find another restaurant nearby (la boucherie was very dog friendly and we had a nice meal). |We wouldn’t stay there again I’m afraid.

This is a beautifully appointed hotel on the way north and a really relaxing place to spend the night. Close to historic Saintes, but with the first bit not having a pavement, it is best to drive in. |Our bedroom was very comfortable and had a terrace. The swimming pool is beautiful and a good feature. The grounds are extensive and beautifully looked after, and the bird life, including Matilda the resident Swan was diverse. |A good place to stay.

I get the impression that most people use this hotel as a one night stopover. We had three nights and enjoyed the garden with its film set lakes with ducks, a swan and various other wildlife. The house is a converted farmhouse with an eclectic mix of old and new furniture. Our room was long and dark with a small terrace overlooking the garden, adequately furnished but with those awful hard rubber pillows the French seem to like. The bathroom was ok but could have done with another hook or two to hang towels which we were encouraged not to have changed. The food was fantastic, definitely worthy of five stars, but be warned the very small menu did not change the three nights we were there. Breakfasts were disappointing, delivered in a basket either to your room or a table, the pastries were rather dry, coffee in a thermos pretty awful. You have to say on arrival what you want for breakfast and unless you specifically change it, you get the same every day. Nearby Saintes had interesting old remains and walking through exploring it was a pleasure.

Highly recommended. A perfect stop-off close to the motorway. Our room was very comfortable with a lovely terrace, where we enjoyed breakfast. The restaurant is INCREDIBLE - the quality of the food, stylish and original presentation and friendly service deserve a Michelin star in our view. We will be back! Mark & Maxi

We spent 2 weeks traveling in France and stayed overnight on our way from SW France to St Malo. ||If this review was about the restaurant it would be 5 stars, the dinner was superb and the chef and staff should be commended. We know the French love food and the care, taste and presentation of the dinner was unique and exquisite.||If the review was about the hotel we would however have given it no better than 3 stars. Other reviews list out the positives and we agree, friendly helpful staff, a small green oasis in a commercial area by a motorway, very easy access. Safe parking. Quirkily decorated, clean. We arrived at 4.30pm and sat outside reading in the sun in pleasant surroundings. ||For my wife and I it started a debate about are we looking for a good nights sleep or a cultural experience? ||I would hate to own a private hotel because the branded travel hotels have raised the bar so high. So where this hotel doesn’t measure up is in bedroom investment where the branded hotels excel. No air con, (difficult to sleep as the room was too hot) only 3 plug sockets in the room and as one was for the tv and another for a light which was needed. Bed not up to best standard. Inadequate lighting ie difficult to read in bed as no bed side spots etc. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room. No safe. Bathroom adequate and quaint but needs updating. Modest size room. Very average breakfast.

We stayed for 4 nights and our experience was very positive. Our rooms were decorated individually which our children and myself loved as we were in the Jaguar car room!|There is a lovely pool that we swam in every morning.|The grounds are also delightful with jumping fish and a beautiful swan called Matilda in one of the large ponds.|The food in the restaurant is mind blowing with amazing flavour combinations. We had moule one night which my wife really enjoyed.|Can't wait to go back again and try out another room.

If you can, stay here. We booked last minute, on our return to UK. Everything was so relaxing and easy. We had tea (you won't believe the selection!) on the terrace overlooking the duck pond when we first arrived. Despite being close to our main route, the silence was perfect. The restaurant overlooks the garden, too, with all the walls on that side of the hotel being immense picture windows. Dinner was impeccable, beginning with a seasonal cocktail and the most delicious selection of amuse bouche, so thoughtfully and artistically presented. I cannot recommend the food highly enough, made all the more wonderful with the friendly, smiling service. The bed was really comfy, great shower and a perfectly private balcony again overlooking the delightful garden. Our pre-ordered breakfast choices were presented in a basket with lovely, local touches and an enormous, delicious pain au chocolate. We sat by the window and were treated to the antics of a red squirrel, a heron, ducks and a mischief of magpies. Honestly. Just stay here. Thank you to the lovely staff for making us welcome on our long journey. Allison.
