"A short row of bar stools topped with locals sipping Champagne greets you as you walk into Le Roi Fou, a cheffy neighborhood restaurant. Swiss-French chef Jérôme Henry spent several years in London as head chef at Anton Mosimann’s Private Dining Club, as well as at Les Trois Garçons (known for its celebrity clientele, including Madonna and David Bowie). His food here pairs inventive techniques and presentations with local ingredients. Grilled hand-dived Orkney scallop comes with pumpkin and aïoli; the intensely rich poached native lobster mousseline comes with a ridiculously light lobster bisque. The Valrhona chocolate marquise, with plum and vanilla ice cream, is a sweet final note. Despite the quality of the ingredients, the relatively high price point, and the flair displayed in the kitchen, this is an egalitarian place and the menus reflect that, with a daily prix fixe, à la carte, tasting, vegetarian, and weekend brunch options." - Caroline Eden

I have had a chance to eat here a few times, and thus far I've had the scallops, the octopus, the steak tartare, the cod, the mackerel, the ocean trout, the calf liver, the guinea fowl, the lamb stew, and the beef fillet and have had a fantastic experience every time. Mr. Henry certainly knows his way around a kitchen. Add to the food, the lovely atmosphere, pleasant staff, and well curated wine selection and it's hard to go wrong at this place. We will definitely be back!

Very fine quality food. Had the pre theatre course meal which really showcased the chef’s skills. The salmon tartar starter was fresh and light. The entree was roasted cod was cooked to perfection and the smoked haddock velouté that accompanied it was just heaven! It’s rich in flavour, so good that I had to ask for a soup spoon to savour the velouté on it’s own. A little on the pricy side but you get what you py for. Recommended!

Excellent food and service. We came for brunch and ended up having a full meal. The fish was delicious and the meal was topped off with the best rhubarb crumble I've tasted in a long while. Great attention to detail - warm focaccia for the table and fudge pieces with the bill. Very reasonably priced for such high quality too. I will definitely visit again!

Hello Locals...We have not longed lived here since moving from Charleston SC . I was looking on google for a restaurant near by to where we live and found this place , it looked interesting for our taste as I only eat Veg and Fish and my husband basically eats Meat . This often makes it difficult to find a good restaurant that suits both our taste. From the moment I walked in and hearing the music I loved the ambiance and for the time we spent there the genres spread at least 4/5 decades. Incredible sound! I understand that’s not the reason you go to a Restaurant, and honestly I never write reviews. However, first impressions do count but there is more.... Jon greeted us and was also our waiter and Sam was the barman , They were really friendly, bright and knowledgeable. Which also makes you feel very welcome. Of course the main reason for this review was the food.My husband had a meat dish and I had fish, Each was delicious. As was our bottle of wine, And to finish, yummy home made ice cream! There were many choices to choose from and we plan to get back very soon to try something different. I hope like Charleston we do find some favorite places to eat locally , though I believe this restaurant right now is definitely at the top of our list.

Absolutely delicious! One of the best restaurants in Edinburgh by far. All of the team are so attentive and knowledgeable. The passion for the food and wine they serve is exemplary & something you don't often see to this degree. Highly recommend this restaurant. Thank you to everyone at Le Roi Fou for a really memorable evening.
