"A short row of bar stools topped with locals sipping Champagne greets you as you walk into Le Roi Fou, a cheffy neighborhood restaurant. Swiss-French chef Jérôme Henry spent several years in London as head chef at Anton Mosimann’s Private Dining Club, as well as at Les Trois Garçons (known for its celebrity clientele, including Madonna and David Bowie). His food here pairs inventive techniques and presentations with local ingredients. Grilled hand-dived Orkney scallop comes with pumpkin and aïoli; the intensely rich poached native lobster mousseline comes with a ridiculously light lobster bisque. The Valrhona chocolate marquise, with plum and vanilla ice cream, is a sweet final note. Despite the quality of the ingredients, the relatively high price point, and the flair displayed in the kitchen, this is an egalitarian place and the menus reflect that, with a daily prix fixe, à la carte, tasting, vegetarian, and weekend brunch options." - Caroline Eden
