Where to Go for a Brilliant Weekday Breakfast in Montreal
"Take a seat in Le Toasteur’s newly revamped dining room in Montreal’s Villeray neighbourhood for a breakfast menu with lots of variety. Open at 8 a.m. on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays (and on weekends, too), this breakfast restaurant serves egg-topped poutine, lemon poppy seed pancakes, and an array of eggs Benedict prepared with everything from Montreal-style smoked meat to chimichurri. The menu changes every other month." - Valerie Silva, Holly Tousignant

The place is small and cozy. We stayed at the bar and it was ok for us.
The food is different than what we expected, in a good way. Had a poutine which was worth it and had 2 options of sauce.
Coffee good, staff friendly and place is very well maintained and clean.

Le Toaster is the coziest breakfast spot, full of that unmistakable Montreal charm (in one of Montreal’s charming neighborhoods - Villeray). It genuinely feels like stepping into a warm bed-and-breakfast tucked inside someone’s welcoming home. The menu offers a fantastic variety, and the staff are incredibly friendly, making the entire experience feel relaxed, personal, and memorable. A true gem for breakfast lovers.

Dropped by Toasteur Villeray for a midweek brunch around noon, and despite it being a weekday, there was still a lineup — a good sign that this spot is popular! Seating is quite limited, and since they don’t take reservations, I’d recommend going earlier if you want to avoid the wait.
I ordered the “Brouillarde à la Marocaine” and asked to swap the goat cheese for halloumi (not a fan of goat cheese) — the staff was super accommodating with that, which I appreciated. The dish came with a fresh green salad topped with a few chunks of watermelon (a refreshing touch), and some nicely baked potatoes on the side. Overall, it was flavorful and satisfying.
The cozy vibe and solid food make this a brunch spot I’d definitely return to. Worth the wait if you have the time!

Nice little brunch spot in villeray. The food was good, the french toast was not too sweet which was good. The iced chai latte is a must try!

Just a regular fulfilling brunch. Nothing impressive, nothing dramatic and fancy. You got when you ordered, just as expected.
Kids friendly.

Amazing food and atmosphere. We came specifically because of the vegan options and they did not disappoint. There’s a separate vegan section in the menu. Coffee was great and they offer plant milk as well. You can tell the owners genuinely care about the quality of the product and service they provide.

This is a 3.5 stars for me.
The place is quite small but it has a nice vibe. Just plan to arrive earlier than 9 AM on weekends, it’s not possible to book tables.
Staff is very welcoming and friendly.
In terms of the food, I find it average, nothing special. The french toast were too dry for my taste. The menu changes every 3 months. Overall, it’s a good neighbourhood option.
Street parking can be challenging to find, best bet is Av De Chateaubriand.

Yelp
This was my favorite brunch on our recent trip to Montreal. I had the poutine dejeuner with tofu and asparagus and it was just delicious!! Two of us have gluten allergies and we were able to buy gluten free croissants next door and the staff used them to
prepare a gluten free feast we could enjoy which many restaurants will not do. The mocha coffee was also great. The restaurant is small so we had a bit of a wait but well worth waiting for the waitress was very patient and accommodating which we greatly appreciated. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Really loved this cute little place. Their brunch options are excellent and I loved the Eggs Benedicts (probably must most ordered brunch meal of all times). Their staff are friendly and although the small terrace outside can be noisy with all the passing by traffic, it's still nice to soak up in the sun while enjoying a delicious food and drink.

Yelp
This is a timeless place.
Pros:
1. The food is always fresh and not just what's on your plate. The menu is always innovative and there's something new. And always excellent.
2. Suffice it to say they're known for their eggs Benedict. Sure there's other stuff on the menu but I've never bothered with anything else. The Benedictine Forestier is my go to (this is unfortunately not available during Covid as this is part of their dine in menu - but hey this is one more thing to look forward to when this is all over)
3. Portions are generous. Thank you! I've never left this place feeling hungry.
Cons:
1. Not really a con, but since I started this list I might as well add that sometimes, the wait is too long for dine in. There's only so many places inside. I suppose this is a good thing but can get a bit much when it's -30 out there.

Yelp
Le Toasteur has been our go-to breakfast place for years. We always come hungry and always leave very happy. The food is consistently excellent. The menu choices are nice varieties of standard fare, the portions are ample. Service is quick and friendly, your order arrives hot, well-prepared and nicely presented. In all our visits (around 30) we have never been unhappy and never had an issue with the food.
The owners and staff take real pride in what they do and they do it well. The service and food is always outstanding. You might experience a wait on weekends but it's worth it! Enjoy!

Yelp
Le Toasteur is a super cute hipster -y breakfast place I came across walking around Villeray. The food here was nothing special... I had their breakfast sandwich and asked for my eggs over easy... they were bordering over hard... not fabulous. The potatoes were tasty. The rest of my party thought the food was fine, it just didn't stand out in any way. The crepes were small and unusual (gluten free I think). The coffee was good, but they never offered a refill until we asked specifically (maybe the norm... not sure). The prices are affordable. If you're in the neighborhood, this is not a bad place to stop.

Yelp
Loved this place! Small, bustling place requiring a wait during our July visit just after Noon on Friday. However, well worth wait, as fruit, crepe, omelette, coffee, & berry smoothie drink were all very good. Service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommend, but don't be in a rush!

Yelp
Fantastic little breakfast spot! We visited this place on a Saturday morning around 9am and we're seated immediately. Service was great and the food arrived quickly even though most tables were full. The food was delicious and priced well for the quality. We'll be coming back for sure!

Yelp
Your cute neighborhood breakfast, brunch, lunch fare! Classic menu, nice specials. Locally sourced food! Small space, so come early or be prepared to wait a few minutes. I have seen people eating by themselves with a book in their hands, so it is very casual! I will be back!

Yelp
This was my first taste of Montreal cuisine and it was incredible! The server was very understanding of my struggle to speak French and was happy to let me try. The food was amazing and well priced. I will definitely return next time I am in the area.

Yelp
Charming and delicious, we found this location through sheer luck, but from now on we'll make this a destination when we're not Montreal.

Yelp
