Verdun’s New Pub Le Trèfle Is Finally Here | Eater Montreal

"I was surprised to see Verdun's bar scene expand with an Irish pub, Le Trèfle, opening on Wellington at 2nd Avenue (4718 Wellington) — it's open daily from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. The pub, which has been established in the East End on Ontario Street for several years and sits apart from the downtown Bishop Street Irish-pub district, has built a reputation for no-BS pub grub and a substantial beer offering with plenty of craft options. Its Verdun menu goes beyond typical nachos and burgers, featuring oysters and tartare, and while the sophistication won't be for everybody, it feels like substantial effort has been channeled into crafting something decent. Le Trèfle is effectively a small chain — the original opened in Trois-Rivières around ten years ago, the Hochelaga edition opened in 2014, and there's one in Limoilou — and even has a bit of star power, with Quebec comic actor Rémi-Pierre Paquin among the principals. Bars remain relatively rare in Verdun (this is the borough's fourth after Bar Social, Palco and Benelux), and with Quebec nixing rules that required restaurant customers to purchase food with alcohol, every restaurant could soon function as a bar." - Tim Forster

Where to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 2018 in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Montreal’s most francophone Irish pub is a breath of fresh air — it doesn’t feel like a caricature-esque copy of every other generic Irish pub in the world, there’s an actually-good beer selection, and the food feels like it’s made with a little more love than other wings ‘n’ fries pub options around town. They’re doing a party on St. Patrick’s Day, and brunch on parade day, complete with Irish coffee." - Tim Forster

Me and my friend ate outside very lovely night. They had a nice terrace. I had the duck sandwich, which was fantastic, and I never ate duck in my life. And the fries were delicious 😋 my friend took the vegan burger which she enjoyed as well. Very nice place.

Our waiter was super nice, but I wish we had received a bit more attention, no one came by to ask if everything was okay, and we had to wave or go up to them for service. There were no hangers or places to put our coats and purses, so we ended up stacking them on a chair. We ordered drinks, but no one asked if we wanted water, which would’ve been nice since the music was extremely loud and we had to talk over it, making us even thirstier. I ordered the fish and chips, it was good, but nothing special.

I've come here for drinks and evening dining, which has always been great. So happy we found out they do brunch! Great presentation and was really delicious. Very happy with my experience, can't wait to return!

Google
absolutely delicious food and drinks. we tried their nachos and poutine with a sangria, it was all very good, highly recommend it all

Google
Great food, fast service. Though, it's definitely more of a night place, the atmosphere definitely felt more like a bar than somewhere to enjoy a meal, but that's expected since it's a tavern. Food reasonably priced, delicious, we had the ham poutine, fish and chips and chicken burger, and all three were fantastic. Drinks were also good, although the bloody Ceasar was a bit too spicy. Service was friendly, although it took some time to get the bill since the waitress was distracted with visitor, but nothing terrible or exaggerated. Overall, an easy 4/5

Google
Food is very good, though definitely on the pricier side for an Irish pub. Service leaves a bit to be desired. 5-10 minutes for drinks, appetizers coming after the main course, and our waiter had to be reminded to bring the check multiple times.

It's been a little less than a year since I've come here last. Came with a few people to have a drink and once we had our drink, they kept asking if we wanted anything else several times over. Lots of pressure to order more! This bar feels like a evolved McKibbens being it's nicer. The food prices on the menu are expensive to the point that you'd just have your drink and go to an actual restaurant. 7.50 for a plate of fries...

I agree with another reviewer to avoid this place if loud music is not your thing. Don’t expect to be able to hold a conversation at a respectable level We were seated on the 2nd floor and indeed the music was very loud. We had to almost shout at each other to hear one another 😅. Service to order was prompt and nice as for the food, we had waited for almost 40 minutes for our food to arrive. Plateau des Mers was okay, the rillettes poisson (cod) was a little tasteless for my liking. I won’t order this item again but may return to try something else on their menu. We also tried their Grand-Trèfle Burger and it was a tad overdone for us. For $34.21 ($29.75 before tax), I would expect a better quality burger with fries with better taste. The Crème Brûlée du Moment was Smoked Maple Syrup and had what we thought was a hint of bacon taste but we verified with the waitstaff that there wasn’t any bacon 😂 and it was due to the smoked maple syrup that may have given the “smokey/baconey” taste. Very interesting crème brûlée.

Yelp
It was a weekend of celebrating saints this weekend starting with St-Patrick which we decided to raise a glass to at @letrefletaverne. And although we did enjoy ourselves overall (who doesn't after a few beers?) the venue we picked was initially less than welcoming. We were met with a disorganized, rude and almost antagonistic manner. We do not remember a time where we were ever treated so poorly. Over the course of the night however, as more people added themselves to our group and beer flowed, this attitude mellowed into a more courteous one. They have a microbrewered line of beers we enjoy very much. Overall the average pub food was satisfying and at par with what you'd expect at similar places. Due to the high end ingredients (duck meat etc) the prices are a little more elevated.

Yelp
Went there early on today for dinner with a good friend of mine Food was pretty good in General even tho as a picky eater I had to remove all the coleslaw from my burger . French Fries weren't bad but weren't exceptional either . Did love the name of the drink I took which was a Naked margarita. Our waiter was super sweet and did like to joke around with us which I really appreciated. The 3 stars over there is because I had to remove the coleslaw but also their chicken was a bit dry and overcooked and their menu was in my opinion for what we got at least a bit expensive.

Yelp
What a huge let down. I tried calling 3 times they let it ring 15 times I still chanced it and passed by and seen they were opened. I had the most unprofessional waitress in the world named Anna. I've yet to come across someone that careless in all dining experiences. Menu has nothing appetizing. Food was crap and for me to say crap means run and go elsewhere. 19$ for a burger that taste like a $5 burger plus a add on for $7 for cubed stinky cheese poutine. Disgusting The burger was barely cooked, smothered in sweet onions and a soggy bun. Asked for a poutine got a pathetic excuse for a poutine with cheddar cubes. I said poutine not poor man's poutine. How can you even serve that I don't care if it's on your menu I said poutine that means curd. I'm in shock I can't believe it. The cod croquette were pasty and blah waste of money This place will only be good for when you need a drink and the dep is closed. Food is overpriced. One crappy burger a pitcher and a disgusting poutine with some crappy no cod croquettes for $63!? Lmao I can't believe I waited so long to come to a real mess. They couldn't even answer the phone when we called and I walked in and it was very easy to figure out why they couldn't come to the phone, they all just chill and talk to their bf and gfs in the corner. We wanted to get shots and ordered some but the waitress decided to stand around talking and not place the order so we asked for the bill and that was a song and a dance literally she stood there dancing at the bar with nobody around even encouraging her. Don't know if she was drunk but extremely unprofessional. 1 star goes to the decor because they for sure invested a lot in this place to be closed down soon enough. Get a better menu and better staff.

Yelp
Nice place to get together with friends away from the downtown scene. Service was a little disorganised which hopefully will improve.

Yelp
Horrible service with an even more horrible management team!!! I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. I would give 0 stars if I could!

Yelp
As far as Irish pubs go This one missed the mark Its got the old fashioned feel But no Irish spark They price like they're downtown Or like they were well known Or as if they were gourmet Or something unique of their own Which is not the case I guarantee you that There's really no reason To keep coming back The prices expensive, The beer just average The red wine served cold The food not earth shattering But the decor is homey At least on the 2nd floor Service was decent But alas not much more The chacuterie platter Though plentiful indeed With poorly chosen cheeses And thick butchered meat Did not come with hummus Or mustard or confit Though did come with figs Tough and dry as can be Would i come here again? Well I suppose yes, I would. But it's by far not the best That is offered in this hood. --------- Installment 37 poetry reviews Anecdote: Imagine a typical hipster couple. Ok you've got that image in your head? Good. Now then, as we sat for about 2 hours ish give or take, I noticed that the hipster couple sitting at a table nearby got up and left after finishing ...shortly there after another couple sat...IDENTICAL to the couple that just left. Same exact attire down to the footwear up to the eyewear. My friend argued with me that it was the same couple until i pointed out the one difference: tattooed arms. We found it amusing. But you may find it a reason to go or not so take it for what u want. :) They need to come up with some unique trademarks (Their "Irish Poutine" on the breakfast menu is just a regular been-there-done-that breakfast poutine -.-). Their cheeses on the charcuterie platter had no pizazz no variety, they need to add an old one or a ripe one or a hard one or ANYTHING different. The cured meats were sliced crooked and thick: I mean at least pay attention to PRESENTATION at those prices guys. The red wine served unbearably cold. I mean, I know it's a pub, but if you're guna serve it (and at those prices)...serve it properlyyyyy please! I will give this place another shot but I'm not expecting to be wowed.

Yelp
Le Trèfle (The Clover) finally opened this past week and having seen the construction going on for months, I was quite keen to come in and check it out. The problem? The place was packed solid the last few days and I was only able to finally come in last night. While there was already a line-up for tables, buddy and I managed to get two seats at the bar. I'm not s beer person ( of which, in case you are, there are a ton of options) so I went straight to the cocktails menu. Unfortunately no sangria by the glass, but the do offer pitchers of it. I just went for a dirty martini instead (with 4 olives!). I was expecting to see typical pub-fare food, burgers, chicken wings, nachos which they have, but I was mighty surprised to see oysters in the half shell as well as steak tartare, which of course I ordered. The oysters were great and the steak tartare, while not the best in the city, was fine and came with a heaping serving of fries and arugula salad I had no room for dessert so that will be for next time. The service is really friendly, bilingual and the atmosphere is very lively and loud. Glad to see Verdun's Irish heritage is finally being visited by a decent Irish pub.

Yelp
Ended up here for an afterwork with colleagues. Good selection of drinks and food, although on the expensive side. The trèfle burger with fries was very good.

Yelp
Giving Irish pub a bad name. Entered the pup and the waiter walked away while I was talking. When we were seated we only got one menu despite being four people. When we asked for another the server gave us a dirty look and just dropped it at the table without acknowledgment. They took away our menu after 5 minutes and then never came back to take our orders. After 25 minutes I had to ask to order and he had a terrible attitude about it. Never spoke to us. The waiter didn't introduce himself, ask how our meal was or come check up on us/fill our water. The tuna tartar tasted like ocean. Drinks were trash. Not a great experience at all.

Yelp
I went on a Thursday night for drinks. When I walked in around 9-10pm, I noticed how dim the place was and the volume of the music. I quickly adjusted to both. The ambiance is friendly and relaxed. (Sidenote; the bathroom light switch is on your left! If it doesn't work it's because the dimmer is at the lowest setting!) Their blonde beer was excellent and their staff friendly and helpful. Will definitely go back here! Next time I might try their food!

Yelp
Fortunately our friends showed up early at this new pub on Wellington street and we got the best and most comfortable table in the house. Remember, it is at back of the pub, just next to the kitchen. Half an hour later the pub was packed and finding any table would have been impossible. Only the bar seats were still available after 7pm. My friend and I focused on beers as we were not hungry, but the rest of our group had burgers, fish and chips, and the delicious french fries and they were satisfied. Anyway, whatever came out of the kitchen smelled great and looked appetizing. Back to the beers list, it is amazing, there are number of visiting beers from different local breweries, we are truly impressed with the effort to offer such a variety. We were also hugely impressed with the service, our hostess was the best, very considarete, professional and efficient. The second floor is dedicated to sports fans, due its to huge screen and I can foresee some hockey nights happening this winter at Le Trefle.

Yelp
this is a really loud bar. go somewhere else if you want to be able to have a conversation.
