Le Trèfle (The Clover) finally opened this past week and having seen the construction going on for months, I was quite keen to come in and check it out.
The problem? The place was packed solid the last few days and I was only able to finally come in last night.
While there was already a line-up for tables, buddy and I managed to get two seats at the bar. I'm not s beer person ( of which, in case you are, there are a ton of options) so I went straight to the cocktails menu. Unfortunately no sangria by the glass, but the do offer pitchers of it. I just went for a dirty martini instead (with 4 olives!).
I was expecting to see typical pub-fare food, burgers, chicken wings, nachos which they have, but I was mighty surprised to see oysters in the half shell as well as steak tartare, which of course I ordered. The oysters were great and the steak tartare, while not the best in the city, was fine and came with a heaping serving of fries and arugula salad
I had no room for dessert so that will be for next time.
The service is really friendly, bilingual and the atmosphere is very lively and loud. Glad to see Verdun's Irish heritage is finally being visited by a decent Irish pub.
