Where to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 2018 in Montreal

"Montreal’s most francophone Irish pub is a breath of fresh air — it doesn’t feel like a caricature-esque copy of every other generic Irish pub in the world, there’s an actually-good beer selection, and the food feels like it’s made with a little more love than other wings ‘n’ fries pub options around town. They’re doing a party on St. Patrick’s Day, and brunch on parade day, complete with Irish coffee." - Tim Forster

Google
Wonderful Pub Irlandais! Quaint patio, great value on food, especially brunch (sad I missed the Gravlax and Waffles) and cold, local beverages. The staff is the best! Great culture and a friendly place to chat about sports and life! Marco served us and was fantastic! Très bien

I've been here a couple times now and I will say that the atmosphere and service are perfectly fine, I find the food to be very standard and adequate but by no means mind blowing. This is a perfectly fine spot to grab a pint and nimble on some chips.

The food was unbelievable, the ham poutine and sea steak were top notch. The service was great and the bartender/wait staff were very friendly. Great selection of beers too. Would make the drive from Ottawa again!

Great location, two outdoor terraces, one on Ontario St and the other on Charlemagne. Friendly staff, fast service, not too many choices of food, but there's something for everyone: burgers, sandwiches, poutines, nachos, fish, seafood, cakes. But it is really a pleasant experience, there is no traffic around, at least for now as Ontario St is closed, opened only for pedestrians. Beware, Le Celt is very good but is huge!

Stopped by for a quick bite and a few drinks after a nearby show. The manager was super nice, taking the time to talk to us about their cocktails. I liked their food menu, and their pub food hit the spot!

Google
Nice place! We went for a relax night, the beers were good and also the food. My only problem is that I consider $30 dollars for an hamburger is to much, it was good but nothing extraordinary like for that price.

Went for brunch, the food was actually really good, but massively let down by the fact nothing was Irish (where’s the sausages, black or white pudding?), the super slow service, they ran out of caffeinated coffee and clamato juice and they forgot the nuts from the apple and nut French toast...

Yelp
We were looking for something close after a long day of travel from the US and Le Trefle seemed to fit the bill on a Thursday evening. Place was packed and noisy, very noisy. Guiness was excellent (I would hope so in an Irish pub), as was the shot of Jameson. Her Fish and Chips were skimpy, mostly fries. My Burger Tip & Top (actually chicken, not beef) was interesting, but not quite what I was looking for. Again, portion was very small, with lots of fries to fill the plate. Staff was friendly, but with the crowd very slow. I'd come again for a beer, but I'd leave the kitchen alone.

Yelp
This restaurant/bar is one of my new favourite place in the Hochelaga neighborhood. The place is big with lots of seating but can get very crowded on a weekend night. The atmosphere is pretty chill, I even saw a guy playing cards at another table. We were greeted by an employee who sat us immediately. They have large choice of beer, wine and liquor. I ordered beer along with an onion soup. It tasted great, comforting and pairing very well with the beer. My friend ordered an stout beer with ham poutine. The portions are very large and you'll be completely stuffed after eating there. The waitress came often to check on us and had very good recommendations for drinks. I would highly recommend for a relaxing night at the bar or dinner with friends. No fuss just good drinks and food.

Yelp
Meh, The pint if Guinness was good. But that was a saaaaad fish and chips. 2 fingers of fish and a basketfull of short fries. The soup was good but the nuts in the baklava tasted old. I would go back, but just for a pint.

Yelp
I would give the pub 6 stars if I could. We held our 5 à 7 there. The atmosphere is good though the place was pretty tight. We had a great time there. Food was excellent. Highly recommend their poutine. Everything from beef tartare to poutine to the salmon were excellent. For a pub, we didn't expect the food to be that good.

Yelp
So this was a hard ok. I feel like what happened was that I was expecting a chill pub with big lofty tables and sweetheart servers but ended up in a place way hipper and packed than any other pub I visit. Beer selection: really neat beer menu but definitely not the solid standards I might expect of a pub that resembles this one. I must say, I do appreciate that they have reasonably priced pitchers of interesting things. Service: given that the spot was down-right packed when we visited I get that the staff was probably pretty bogged down. Despite the sometimes slow service our bar fella was friendly and hustling to make food and drink happen. Crowd: this is where things truly started to suck. At first I really didn't mind being sat at the bar and then I began to forcibly interact with every annoying dude ever. I don't know what it is about this otherwise friendly and neutral bar that attracts the neighbourhoods most clueless males but I was stuck being not one, not two but three dudes' human leaning post. This is not entirely the bar's fault- I just think it could be better reflected in the way they seat folks or how they manage painfully drunk guys with no regard for personal space (seriously, one guy needed to be cut off like three beers earlier). In any case, I might try Trèfle again but likely not when the place is packed to the rafters.

Yelp
Great neighbourhood pub that serves a great pint of Guinness and great selection of whiskey. Not pretentious and everyone is friendly. Typical pub food, but there own better food in the city. Just go there and take it easy.

Yelp
Good food, good selection of whiskeys!!! Waitress wasn't as helpful as I wish she could of been but overall I'm very pleased. Nachos were flavourful and the bacon was nice thick cuts!!! Tartar with mushroom was pretty damn good and portions was not bad!

Yelp
This was a cool bar, went with family for some nachos and beer and we were happy with service, food and drinks. Nice place to go!

Yelp
Let me be honest here... The problem is not the pub. The problem is me. I don't seem to be a fan of pub food. I ordered nachos and they came SUPER well done (like burnt to a black crisp). My boyfriend's poutine was MEH... But the drinks were good! And the staff were amazing!

Yelp
Beautiful looking pub with a wide selection of Quebec and Belgium beer and Irish whiskey. Quite impressive! The decor is authentic with a real Irish pub feel. The only thing I really didn't like was the music. It's an Irish pub; why are you playing Tupac and The Talking Heads? Where's the Irish and folk music? I found that really took away for the place. The music was also really loud which made it hard to talk to the person next to you. Other than that the service was great. The staff was friendly, attentive and bilingual. A big plus considering the area! Most bars refuse to speak any English in the Hochelaga area.

Yelp
Circumstances will sometimes take you to places you didn't expect - in those cases, you simply hope for a pleasant surprise and a positive experience. How I ended up having brunch at Le Trèfle is one such example. Planning a bachelor party can be a pain in the ass - especially in the wintertime where the need for specific places to go over the course of the day is essential. Within the day I had planned for my buddy, I needed to find a lunch spot relatively close to HoMa where a large group of guys could watch the Habs, eat some good food and enjoy a few pints in the process. HoMa - or Hochelaga-Maisonneuve if you want the full title but I'm lazy so HoMa will do - is not a part of Montreal I know at all. Doing some searching, I found this Irish Pub that did brunch and had TVs for the game.. although I couldn't find the menu online. However I saw enough positive reviews to give it a shot, so that is how I found myself with 10 other guys on a part of Ontario street I had never been. First thing when I walked in that struck me was the decor - absolutely loved it. Classic pub look but without the ridiculous clutter you often end up with. Old wood-paneled walls - dark stained or just natural - with dark wooden tables, leather seats & stools and a beautiful dark bar as a focal point for the room. The whole space had a nice neighbourhood bar vibe where you can see easily coming in for a pint or two on a regular basis for a relaxed evening. It was a quiet Saturday so there wasn't much ambience outside of us but regardless, it was a nice place to relax for the four hours we were there. Amongst their brunch menu was a collection of speciality cocktails. I chose to start with their 'Prepster' - a mixture of Maker Mark's bourbon, egg white, angostura bitters and cream soda. A definitely interesting drink - I enjoyed the overall flavour however the softness of the egg whites with the cream soda made it too light for me. It needed more staying power - I ended up finishing it off so quickly that I barely enjoyed it. Hindsight, something stronger would have been a better choice for me. Foodwise, Le Trèfle's Brunch menu is a interesting combination of standard breakfast/brunch fair with a Irish Pub twist. I got to try three different dishes amongst the dozen or so options. First up was their morning Irish stew which as my Irish friend said at the time wasn't really a Irish stew but it didn't matter because it was quite good. A mixture of mostly beans with ham, bacon, maple syrup and a poached egg, the stew was a filling meal. The maple syrup came though a lot which gave it more sweetness than you would expect in the stew but it was a hit at the table. Next up was the Celtic poutine, their play on a breakfast poutine - breakfast potatoes, bacon, hollandaise sauce, sharp cheddar cheese cubes and an egg over-easy. The hollandaise sauce had a little stronger component to it than a typical hollandaise - forgot to ask the waitress what was is in it - and the use of sharper cheddar really worked well to make this poutine different for the now "standard" breakfast poutines you see around town. The rest of the ingredients were as solid as you expect. This was the most ordered dish at our table and not a single potato was left by the end. Just wonderful. The final dish was the Dublin sandwich which was sold to us by our waitress with her description - an omelet with ham and tomato sandwiched between two grilled cheese sandwiches. That got us salivating pretty quickly and thankfully it was as good as advertised. The onion and spinach omelet was excellent, the ham sweet and fatty and the two sandwiches nice and gooey. The only issue really was that the sandwich was too tall to actually eat properly. Otherwise it was another hit. Le Trèfle was a pleasant surprise to me foodwise - really well executed brunch food with high quality throughout. While the primary focus was on the drinking aspect of the occasion (and believe me, that was achieved and then some), the food itself convinced me that Le Trèfle needs to stay on my radar not just as a pub option but as an actual brunch option. Not sure I would have believed that when I first walked in. It is always fun when I get surprised.... especially when I had 10 other guys to appease at the moment. Happy to finally have a place in HoMa to recommend easily. Cheers!

Yelp
We popped in here just before the FIFA Women's World Cup Semi Final #USAvGER. we arrived just as they opened (4pm) and sat us down, gave us beers and we ordered up some food, which came directly and was nicely done. Great atmosphere, dark wood decor, and lots of taps befitting an Irish pub. Sometimes when you're traveling you just need to consistency and welcome of an Irish pub.

Yelp
Bartending is important job,, I went yesterday 2015-06-11 around 4:30pm with a friend... he's a beer lover and we sat at the bar and it was not busy at all, however, the bartender (she) was so negative, even her vibes, service etc..... we were so disturbed by her ignorance, she practically kicked us out by her behavior. ordered: class of wine for me (joke she filled the glass with an almost empty bottle and added more with a new bottle :/ no class, we ate our oyster and left went to Le Valois to finish our dinner. Beside her at the bar...its a great place overall.
