The 24 Best Bars in Paris

"Post up at the bar inside the Hotel Particulier, a former mansion in hilly Montmartre dating back to the 19th century, and you’ll immediately feel as if you’ve entered a sacred space. Whether sitting outside or under the glass atrium surrounded by lush vegetation, or inside in the paisley carpeted dark rooms decorated with red velvet chairs and woodsy-patterned wallpaper, having a cocktail here is straight out of an adults-only fairytale. The drinks are made with house-made syrups like salty plum wine, infusions such as tonka bean rum, and fresh grown ingredients from the garden including herbs and honey made by the dashing young proprietor, Oscar Comtet, himself. Many of them are named after literary or films classic films; on one visit, the menu featured the Laura Palmer, made with the aperitif Americano Cocchi, lime juice, sugar syrup, and fresh sage." - Sara Lieberman

The kind of place you almost don’t want to share, just to keep it secret a little longer. Housed inside a 19th-century mansion, with a retro 70s-inspired décor, and surrounded by a lush garden, it feels like stepping into a movie set. The atmosphere is both relaxed and refined. The staff are warm yet discreet, adding to the feeling of effortless elegance. Cocktails are excellent. Even the toilets are worth mentioning, with their particular style. Getting there feels like an adventure in itself: you ring an intercom, walk through a hidden path, and suddenly find yourself in this whimsical hideaway. And the highlight? The serene chickens roosting high in the garden’s trees, completely unbothered. Le Particulier isn’t just a bar — it’s an escape. One part secret garden, one part retro salon, and entirely unforgettable.

Very lovely decor, slightly upscale environment. Great drinks. We did dinner upstairs too before coming down for drinks and dessert at the bar. Very friendly and welcoming service. Bit hard to locate so make sure you use the entrance on junot street and ring the bell saying you want to go to the bar or have a reservation for dinner.

I’ve been there 3 times already and it never disappoints! Great service, amazing vibe, delicious fresh food (upstairs) and perfectly crafted drinks - with super fun names to match!

My friend and I were really looking forward to trying this place last night, but could not have been more disappointed. The owner was outrageously rude (and drunk), and despite repeatedly asking him to please leave us alone, he would not. He then proceeded, after his staff (who could not have been more lovely) suggested he leave us alone, to sit at the table beside us instead and throw over the occasional comment. He was like a drunk child. When we arrived with my dog, he was near the entrance. He immediately - not knowing anything about me or my dog- let her off the lead without asking. He then patronisingly told me 'having her on the lead is very bad dog training. You need to trust your dog.' She, of course, ran away and into the basement of the place. He was trying to call her back and she did not come. I got her back, but he kept coming at her quite aggressively to pet her, without realising she was terrified of him. He then let her off the lead again - she was so afraid of this man, she again ran away. I told him to stop doing this - it's my job to keep her safe, letting her off the lead means she's safe and can explore but she's not and cannot in this place. She's my dog - I know her - leave us alone. He patronisingly told me I'm doing it all wrong, repeatedly talking down to me, and tried to let her off again. Finally we were seated downstairs. The owner kept coming back to our table - where my dog was then sleeping on the floor quietly - and agitating her again. I kept saying to him, 'Please leave us alone, you're upsetting me and my dog, we just want a peaceful evening, please go, we do not want to talk to you and I do not want your dog training advice,' but he would not. What makes it worse is that for most of the evening he would only talk to my male friend about my dog - he completely ignored me telling him to leave, both when I was polite, and when I got increasingly agitated at his enormous disrespect. We stayed for our drinks and left, with him continuing to lecture my friend about how I should never have my dog on a lead in public bars. It was incredibly rude, patronising, and inappropriate, on so many levels. My dog could have been nervous, aggressive, etc. and he just continued letting her off. Fortunately she is very well trained and came back to me, but what a completely embarrassing excuse for a man. The staff continually came to apologise to us for his allegedly drunken behaviour, the other patrons came to note to us how horribly rude he was being and complimenting how polite we stayed despite his behaviour. He obliviously continued until we and the table next to us both left. The place is beautiful, the garden makes it feel really special, the staff were so lovely, and the wine was good. But I will never, ever be going back to this place. And if you're female, you plan to bring your dog - or you just don't want to be belittled and aggressed by a drunken Frenchman - skip this place. There are better places around.

This is definitely where all the cool kids hang out. All of the pictures show the tiny gold colored bar, but don’t worry there’s a full garden and seating upstairs and we got a spot on a Friday night for two easily. It’s worth a trip up the hill and through the Secret Garden to have a couple of cocktails here. The house cocktail the particular is the best one we tried. The staff are friendly, but very overworked. The place is a little bit too romantic for my liking.

Google
Well situated in the heart of Paris 18th arrondissement, this almost speakeasy bar is perfect for your date night! Cocktails are very decent and well executed. The venue has a good tropical vibe with the decoration reflecting that jungle theme. The menu itself is quite interesting too, with a good choice of cocktails and finger food. You may want to book in advance to avoid any disappointment!

Google
Got a tip from a colleague and a good explanation on how to get there. The explanation is needed because you have go through two gates, use an intercom and go in a private alley. The place itself is fantastic with a nice little garden and a sort of orangerie/conservatory to sit in. The cocktails are not very cheap (but what is in Paris) ours were €14 each, but you also pay for the venue. Staff was very friendly and English speaking (even an English menu). Highly recommend to go there.

Google
Bathroom is absolutely outrageous… I don’t know how such a reputable hotel could afford to have such unkempt bathrooms. Not only was it extremely unhygienic looking, full of urine, there were no toilet papers and instead they put out napkins. The bathroom looked worse than some of the bathrooms in pubs. Vibey place but very poor management.

Yelp
On my quest for speakeasies in Paris, le Très Particulier was certainly the most-beautiful one I've experienced. Situated in a quiet part of Montmartre, the place is located behind a seemingly-residential gate. You have to buzz the intercom to be let in, and it's a matter of making your way through a lush, cobblestone road before the destination is on your left. I ordered a drink, which turned out to be a lot stronger than I'd imagined-- that's the way a good cocktail should be! Prices were expensive, although it's not surprising for speakeasies. Admittedly, it's a place for date night, but I still enjoyed a drink before continuing with my visit of Montmartre. Definitely worth at least a visit!

Yelp
Beautiful ambiance, deceptively helpful service at first. After our first order we were ignored for 2 hrs even after placing orders. Terrible service, rude bartender and waiters.

Yelp
Coming here was a cool journey as it was well hidden and defiently happening. However upon sitting down and ordering drinks, we waited an hr and still drinks didnt come. We got some food but the portions are very small and over priced. I think its cuz we are miniorities and they didnt want to serve us. would not come recommend.

Yelp
A true speakeasy including hidden entrance, passphrase, and hidden bar. Incredible custom cocktail menu to boot. Trendy crowd, Top 40 music, and floral carpeting paired with exotic wallpaper round out the ambiance.

Yelp
This hidden speakeasy may not be the easiest to find, especially if you aren't familiar with the area. We found this place due to a yelp review. We took a taxi to the address and were now left at a gated driveway with no clue if we were really in the correct location. Lol There was an intercom to use to get entrance to the property. Once in, you walk up the dimly lit driveway until you come to an entrance to the actual Hotel Particulier. If you continue walking toward the garden, you get a nice view of the Eiffel Tower before you meet the entrance to the bar. It's a quaint space with nice music and drinks. Take a chance on one of their drinks bc they are tasted! I'd definitively like to go back on a weekend to really get a feel for the vibe when it's in full action.

Yelp
It's hard to believe you can find a hidden place in the middle of Montmartre but that's what this hotel / bar is. To get in, you need to ring at two intercoms and walk through a private alley. Once inside, you realise why this place is so special: a cute patio with trees and flowers and an old "hotel particulier". Prices are a bit high but you can also get a 8€ glass of white wine. The decor inside the bar wasn't that appealing to me, but you don't go to Le tres particulier to stay inside anyway!

Yelp
I couldn't be more in love with this place!! Its a little difficult to find, but once your there it is so amazing! I didn't stay in the hotel but a friend who has lived in Paris her whole life recommended this for brunch on Sunday. The setting is outside in a beautiful little garden and the food is incredible. There is a buffet style that you can help yourself to inside, and then outside they have an outdoor grill where they cook chicken and beef kebabs and amazing sausages. This was one of the highlights of my recent trip to Paris. The price is very fair and their fresh juices are to die for. My only issue would be that they don't offer espresso or cappucino with brunch, only coffee or tea.

Yelp
There are no signs anywhere, so here's how to get here: go to the address indicated, and you'll see a tall gate with a sign saying something "vous private", which looks like a private alley, but in fact it's the entrance. But you have to go up to the gate and press the button to call the Hotel Particulier, and they'll let you in. Then you walk past a private club and your next left will be the hotel, with its outdoor seating and garden. Having no idea about any of this, and speaking almost no French, it was a little spooky walking through the garden and trying to find the bar! It's to the right of the hotel steps, down some stairs. They are super nice here! The drinks aren't cheap, but I liked mine. And our waiters gave no indication that they were annoyed by our bumbling American-ness. The garden is lovely and intimate. And apparently they just officially opened to the public, after being private-only.

Yelp
Reservations only - even for drinks. This gem lies atop Montmartre in an old mansion, very chic & ritzy, and I recommend it. We shared a bottle of Bourgogne & played backgammon in our own private room.

Yelp
Un endroit magique et isolé du tumulte parisien. Terrasse intimiste. L'un de mes endroits préféré pour prendre un verre à Paris.
