The 22 Best Restaurants in Marrakech, Morocco | Eater

"One of the newer restaurants in the Marrakech dining scene, La Trou au Mur has quickly established itself as a standout. The menu includes both Moroccan dishes and international options, allowing diners to mix and match. Take advantage of the restaurant’s giant clay oven by ordering the fantastic mechoui (roast sheep) with one of the signature, custom sauces, like traditional preserved lemon sauce or barbecue sauce for a twist. If you are traveling through Marrakesh this should be on your short list of dinner restaurants. They were very welcoming and made it an easy experience, with everyone speaking multiple languages. But unlike many places we visited, Le Trou Au Mur seems to understand better why a tourist is visiting Marrakesh. We want to hear the language and feel like we have traveled, and the staff here more openly shared their culture than other places we visited. While I'm delighted so many speak English here, I'm still interested in understanding about the local language and culture. We were able to ask questions about dishes and we were given great background information and had our poor pronunciation gently corrected. As to the food, easily the best presented and tasting dishes we've had. They were promptly prepared and delicious. The raspberry tea was also amazing. To me, I got the impression the chef is or was trained internationally, and is using that experience to curate a wonderful experience at this restaurant. If you're wondering where to get GOOD food in Marrakesh, give them a shot, you won't regret it. As to price, we split a half a bottle of wine with another party, got a tea and two large entrees for 57 USD on my credit card.

More expensive than most Marrakesh restaurants but you understand why when your food is served. It was beautifully presented and full of intriguing complex flavours drawn from traditional Moroccan cuisine. We had lunch on the rooftop and it was altogether a very pleasant experience.

Le Trou au Mur is the kind of place that deserves to be much better known. The rooftop terrace may not look like much in photos, but in reality it’s a lovely and peaceful spot—perfect for dinner away from the hustle of the Medina. What truly makes the experience stand out is the team: incredibly kind, thoughtful, and attentive throughout the whole evening. As for the food: 5⭐️. I had the tanjia, a Marrakesh specialty, and it was honestly really good. Full of flavor, tender, perfectly spiced. Highly recommended!

Really great place. Friendly staff. Food is great. We had the Moroccan Salad as starter and the Tajine of the day. Both really good. The atmosphere feels chique, service is great. Would highly recommend!

From the moment we stepped into Le Trou Au Mur, we knew we were in for something special. Tucked away in the charming alleys of the Medina, the setting is intimate and beautifully designed—a perfect blend of Moroccan tradition and contemporary elegance. The food? Absolutely exceptional. We tried a variety of both Moroccan and international dishes, and each one was bursting with flavor and crafted with care. The Meshoui lamb was perfectly slow-cooked and tender, while the Pumpkin Ravioli offered a delicate and refined contrast. Don’t miss the Stuffed Poussin or the M’rouzia—they were personal highlights. Service was warm, attentive, and knowledgeable. The staff went out of their way to ensure our comfort and help us explore the menu. We finished the evening with a selection of desserts—especially loved the Knafeh and the Date & Saffron Cake with house-made ice cream. Le Trou Au Mur is a must-visit for food lovers in Marrakech. A true gem that combines authentic flavors with impeccable hospitality. We’ll definitely be back!

Had a wonderful dinner here. Very reasonable priced, delicious, and great service. They have some particularly rare Moroccan dishes as well that are a must to try.

Fine food and great service. This is worth booking beforehand to avoid disappointment. We had a rooftop table which doesn’t have great views but is outside and adds to the atmosphere of your evening. In cooler months (we went in February) the rooftop has blankets and heaters for comfort. Other tables are available inside on other levels. The waiting staff were very accommodating and explained in good English (no doubt other languages) what the food was and what was in it. Rich flavours and tasty dishes. Would recommend the marrocan dishes. Serves wines and beers too unlike many morrocan establishments. I believe this is owned by a French chef which makes the food so good. Lovely evening, would recommend for couples and adult groups.

We went to Le Trou Au Mur because it was on the Eater list for Marrakesh. The overall meal was very good. We got the mixed meshoui and the fish as entrees and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We thought maybe the meat would be dry, but was very moist and tender. The 7 tiered salad was a must as well. We did order a roasted squash but it was so bitter that we really couldn't eat it. But the restaurant was kind enough to replace it with roasted veggies instead. Our dessert was also just okay. It was refreshing with all the fruit, but we were a little underwhelmed by it. The overall dining experience was great and we really enjoyed most of the dishes. I would still very much recommend coming here. One note for tourists was that we did have to navigate through old Medina. When we left to head back to our riad, we were harassed quite aggressively who were trying to "help" us get back. It got to a point that we got a little nervous. If safety is a concern, definitely take the long way and find a more populated route.
