"It may have an exterior that is typical of northern France, with its white bricks and eaves, small window panes and black surrounds, but this restaurant actually has a smart contemporary interior. Chef Christophe Hagnerelle is a true craftsman, who creates unfussy seasonal cuisine. I took a break in my Michelin 3 Stars Challenge (and brushing up my Parisian challenge) with a trip in Lille. I wanted to try a local star aimed at the local clients. Oh boy! What a night! So what’s great here? Well, the kindness of the staff as to be ranked first. It’s not an insult to the rest, it’s just that they are incredibly kind. I’ve done a lot of gastronomic restaurants, so I know that they are often kind because I’m the client. Here, there are just kind because they are. Second thing is that I had incredibly good wine. They had my personal favorite champagne, so one could say that my judgment is biased… May be, but still, the magic worked. The service was nice, the atmosphere was great and the cuisine was as local as they could. The result? It felt so genuine. A very strong one star. Even Stronger in my heart. I’ll be back next time I’m Lille, that’s for sure!

Le val d’auge est une adresse d’exception de par sa cuisine inventive qui sait sublimer de bons ingrédients et de saison. Les plats signatures tels que l’œuf cocotte aux truffes et les ris de veau avec la purée de charlottes sont excellents et le chef revoit la carte au fil des saisons et de son inspiration. Le service est efficace et attentif et sait s’adapter aux goûts des clients notamment pour le vin. L’évolution dans la carte permet de toujours découvrir de nouveaux plats. On reviendra.
