Le Vin Perdu

"The team behind Emilia, situated just a few doors down, have imparted another gift to the residents of Ashburton with this delightful rustic bistro. Where its sister operation is all-Italian, Le Vin Perdu is full-blooded French in its approach, so don’t be surprised to find the likes of pork terrine or rotisserie chicken on the menu. The décor is understatedly chic, with the bar making a great place for a cocktail or a glass of wine from the blackboard list. If you’re sweet of tooth, the tarte Tatin is a great note to end on." - Michelin Inspector

Came here for lunch for my birthday and could not fault a single thing. Food was delicious. We had pork rillettes and some bread to start. The sourdough was from the Briar bakery a few doors down and it was the perfect combination for the rillettes and giant pot of cornichons. We shared the half chicken, potaotes and gem lettuce and could not believe how tasty the potaotes were. The chicken was perfectly cook and the garlic and herb butter was the perfrct accompaniment. To finish everything off, we had the vanilla bavarois with blackcurrant and hazelnuts. The perfect ending to our meal. The staff are lovely, friendly and are more than happy to suggest alternatives for dietry restrictions as we overheard from another table with a dairy and gluten intolerance. Will definitely be back

10/10 faultless. Absolutely loved it here - exact kind of gem Devon needs. The interiors, service, food and drinks were all incredible.

We enjoyed a lovely meal whilst I was down visiting my daughter. The restaurant is in a very old building with so much character, but as someone else mentioned. The accoustics were terrible. It was very loud due to all the hard surfaces. That said, the quality of the food was excellent and very well priced. We were both surprised and delighted at the cost. I thought for the quality of food and presentation that it would have cost much more. The staff were extremely helpful and guided us through the menu. I had the fish. A great choice. This was an excellent dining experience. (All except for the accoustics). Highly recommended.

Great French style bistro in the high street. Varied menu, with daily specials and extensive wine list. Attentive friendly staff and the food was amazing. Definitely coming back for the rotisserie chicken next time. Thank you.

Absolutely cracking food. The goat curd salad + bread for starters set the tone. The had made an effort with every ingredient… the bread I could have kidnapped and eaten all year. Lamb and black bream for mains, both very good. Pinot noir reminded me of an old favourite that I can’t find any longer Grolleau. Skipped desert, but the looked good.

Great Cocktails, great service and atmosphere BUT sadly the food was very disappointing! Lazy menu ( especially for vegetarians) and was also very mediocre at best for those eating from the meat menu. Walked away feeling very dissatisfied.

Le Vin Perdu hasn't been open that long and is a very welcome addition to Ashburton's thriving culture. It is a sister restaurant to the excellent Emilia. The menu is imaginative if not overly broad and the food is very well prepared and presented. The decor is a bit clunky. The reason this reviewer holds back a star is because the speciality chicken while tender and juicy is too rich and over salted. The other reason is that the staff seem just a wee bit condescending, as if they're offering a culinary and viticutural education to an ill-informed clientele. That said, I wish them every success.
