We happen to be walking by this restaurant a few days ago and stopped to look at the menu. The menu looked good so I made a reservation. we arrived at 6:30 PM and the outside seating was almost full, but it was warm out so we decided to sit inside where it was much cooler. I started out with a glass of Chenin Blanc and my other half had a glass of Sancerre. We ordered some bread to start off. I chose the warm goat cheese over brioche with a sun-dried tapenade and my partner had the lobster carpaccio. Both dishes were excellent! My partner chose the duck confit and I had the pork mignon cutlet for our entrées. Again, both dishes were excellent. We still had room for dessert so we shared the tasting plate for two. It consisted of Tonka, bean, crème brûlée, sugar pie, honey & vanilla ice cream, opera cake. It didn’t take us long to finish it! I really wanted to order another one! LOL! As the evening went on the, more people started coming in. I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re staying in Quebec city.

Google
An absolutely incredible experience at this restaurant. The service was top notch and the food was delicious! Our waiter was warm, engaging and professional and ensured that we had everything that we needed throughout the night. The kitchen even made my daughter a special pasta supper with fresh vegetables. The sommelier recommended an amazing wine that we loved. Will definitely return again!

Google
Food was exceptionally good. Scallops ceviche the best I've had, ever. Smoke sardine superbly balanced. Pork is a must-have. Will come back for it. Wines ok. Dessert - nothing overly sweet, which was nice. But not remarkable, compared to food.

Margaret Anthony

Google
That was, without a doubt, one of the best meals I've ever had. The food was so exceptional that we’ve decided to come back again today. Every bite was incredible, and I was genuinely moved by how perfectly everything came together. Our server was outstanding—thank you for creating such a memorable experience and making our evening truly special. MERCI!

Google
Of all the variety of restaurants we ate at during our stay in Québec, this one was just okay. I would expect more of a restaurant that claims to be Michelin recommended. Poor plate presentation, and the portion for the sides was small at best. Additionally there were fruit flies around the table throughout our dinning experience which left us questioning the overall cleanliness. Thankfully the service was good.

Google
A lovely bistro on a quiet street away from the tourist hotspots. All three appetizers that my family ordered (the veal tongue on potato salad, the gazpacho, and the green bean and zucchini cream soup) were incredibly delicious. The green bean and zucchini soup is the best soup that I have eaten to date! The entrees were just as tasty (the quail, the flank steak, and the duck confit) and I loved the sauce that came with the quail. Our waitress was very kind and attentive. If you visit and the weather is nice, enjoy your meal on the patio!

Google
One of the worst dining experiences we have ever had. We thought…is this for real? Are we being pranked? We sit down and wait a solid 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. Then we get some waters. Eventually we order and the food is…not Michelin quality. It’s meh. Average. And I really could not believe the low quality of service. Basically made no attempt at providing pleasant service. (Was it because we were English-speaking Americans?) We had 2 kids with us and wonder if our table was ignored for this reason. We have taken our kids to “nice” restaurants before and it’s not a problem. This was a bizarre experience.

Google
Amazing little French restaurant. Busy (for good reason!), but away from the busy tourist areas. Incredible food and cocktails, lovely ambiance, and friendly staff. The lobster was delicious! 11/10 ✨

Yelp
Located at the lower end of the city, this place offered fairly priced lunch with decent quality. We ordered duck leg confit and steak entrees, each came with our choice of soup or starter of the day (spinach cream soup or calamari). My favorites were the soup and duck leg. The soup was so creamy but not too heavy. The duck leg was crispy outside and the meat was tender and flavorful (tasted almost like Beijing roasted duck). Both dishes came in large portion along with veggies and fries Our server was friendly and checked on us a few times.

Yelp
We had a nice meal here, the ambiance is welcoming, and the service flawless. Unfortunately, there was a group of wild screaming kids at a nearby table who were running around the restaurant, while their parents, at a separate table, seemed oblivious. My entrée was the duck confit, as good as I've had anywhere, I enjoyed every bite and wanted to lick the plate. We chose the dessert sampler, and it was an elegant presentation and a great way to end the meal. The gelato and the sugar pie were especially good. However, I had started the meal with the waygu beef tataki appetizer, and it was rubbery. I did not enjoy that dish, so, a mixed experience, four stars overall.

Yelp
We came here to celebrate two birthdays and eat well. We can't over the fact that the oysters are served on rocks instead of ice (what we're used to in the USA). They were also bland and not briny, so now we know. Portions are small and so we ordered apps and entrees to share. They get 5 stars because the server mentioned that they can make anything and as my friend was asking about the taste profile of one of the cocktails on the menu, the server mentioned The Last Word. I haven't been able to get that in the USA because of the chartreuse shortage. So I was so happy to finally taste it again! Ambiance is brightly lit with tables spaced decently apart. Two bathrooms for the entire restaurant. It's right off of the busy tourist streets but the inside is quite calm. They have this item where you can pick 3 appetizers for a set price so we did that. We also did that to try all of the desserts. I loved the Scottish egg that came with the duck but was surprised by the smoked duck slices. The beef tartar entrée was yummy with the fries. The lamb was my favorite dish. Then after dinner it was so convenient to then stroll the cobble stoned streets and walk off dinner a little bit.

Yelp
Very disappointing! Staff was unfriendly we never even had chance to eat here. Place looked ok not quite as charming as pictures.

Janghan L.

Yelp
Both foods and service were terrible. Wagyu was not fresh. Duck confit was super salty. Risotto, there was a fly on the plate. Do not recommend this restaurant.

Jeffrey W.

Yelp
The food was excellent except for the lasagna. No bolognese, no mozzarella, no noodles. Just shredded meat with a thick slab of tasteless, hard Quebecan cheese. Don't order this. The waiter was a humorless, dour man, dressed in plain, monochromatic shirt and pants. I don't think he liked English speaking customers. The pours for the individual glasses of wine were miserly - maybe 6 oz. And my glass of Chardonnay had pieces of cork floating in it.

Yelp
We dined at l'echaude our first night in Quebec and sat at the bar (which we generally prefer) Our meal was outstanding but the highlight of the evening was Alexi the bartender. We loved watching him work his magic on the cocktails and loved his engaging personality. It was our favorite stop in the city.

Donna D.

Yelp
Pretty comfortable restuarant. The food was ample and delicious. Service couldn't be better. No language barrier. Highly recommended.

Yelp
*3.5 stars* The atmosphere and patio L'Échaudé are great. The restaurant was located right next to our hotel, so it made sense to grab dinner here. Reservations are recommended for dinner, but the patio is first come, first serve. We arrived early at 5:30 pm without a reservation and were able to get seated quickly. Our 9 month old was having a meltdown, so that may have affected our overall experience. Even so, our waiter was very nice and understanding of us dining with a toddler. The appetizers were excellent. We ordered salmon tartar, lobster cakes and the grilled bison. All were delicious. This was the highlight of the meal for us. For the main, I ordered the Beef Tartare, which was just okay. It tasted fine, but the presentation was a little sloppy and grayish beef color was just a little off-putting (not sure if that's normal or not). The fries were also a little soggy. My wife's fish of the day and my mother-in-law's fish dishes were decent, but not amazing. Unfortunately, my father-in-law's lamb dish was undercooked and parts were rare even. Overall, great atmosphere and service but the food disappointed a bit. The appetizers were memorable, but the sloppy beef tartare and rare lamb made me downgrade L'Échaudé's rating.

Yelp
We had a great time at Echuade. For apps we had the lobster puff, beef tartar, and the tatazi wagyu beef. The tartare was our favorite. For mains we had duck confit, sea bass, lasagna, and lamb. One of our favorites was the duck confit or the sea bass. For dessert we had the tasting menu and all of it was delicious. The service was excellent.

Yelp
Saved the best for last. Beautiful birthday dinner in a relaxed, classy setting....complete with outside snowflakes. Dinner here on last night in Quebec City was memorable. Relaxed, friendly and efficient staff made this the best meal of our trip. A local sparkling wine, shared appetizer and dessert plates and exceptional main courses. Couldn't have asked for a better celebratory dinner. Perfection.....

Kathi P.

Yelp
My husband and I were extremely disappointed by our dinner here for our last night in Canada. We sat outside and service was practically nonexistent -- we had to wait a long amount of time for menus, water refill, bread (which was served cold -- considering it's an up charge it could at least be warm), an overpriced foie gras terrine of two small triangles, and equally overpriced entrees of duck and sea bass (two very small fillets and inedible ricotta inside a zucchini blossom). We were still hungry afterwards but although I had planned to order a dessert plate we valued our time and money too much so we left to get gelato down the street. What a shame that a fine dining experience turned out to be anything but.

Yelp
Mediocre food (rabbit was tough, filet mignon was over cooked), terrible service (our waiter was rude, never introduced her name, never brought us bread even after we asked), there are bugs flying around our table near the bathroom (see picture of several of them dead). Overrated restaurant, do not come here. The health department should come here!

Yelp
Delicious food, great service too. Sweet potato soup the highlight, wild salmon & tomato salad also good. While we sat patio, inside would've been nicer with the air con.

Ruth B.

Yelp
The service was fabulous and the whole atmosphere was so romantic. We definitely would come again. The tastes and pleasures in the food and the way things were prepared was the best we've had in a long time. Maybe ever. What a gem!

Douglas F.

Yelp
The food and service was excellent. We had fish of the day and duck confit. Price was not too high compared to other local restaurants.

Yelp
Probably the best restaurant we ate at in Quebec City. French style food and a French centric wine list. Food and service were very good. Overall a very good restaurant experience.

Yelp
This may have been the best food I have ever had? My husband had the wagyu and I had the lamb stuffed shells. Amazing food, ambiance and waitstaff.

Yelp
We stopped by L'Échaudé after our more casual choice of Cafe St-Malo was closed for lunch both Sunday and Monday. The ambiance of L'Échaudé is definitely modern and high end. White table clothes, a quiet dining room, a beautiful bar area and polite wait staff make this more appropriate for a date night and for adults. Fortunately, as we stopped by for lunch, they were more than happy to accommodate a family and we soon had a delicious meal. Our order: Appetizer of the Day - $8. Scallop with Potato Purée and bacon. Two large dayboat scallops were mixed with pieces of crispy meaty bacon and a potato puree. It was delicious and a great start. Oysters - $2/each. We ordered half a dozen oysters and they were medium size, sweet and ultra fresh. Served only with a red onion mignonette, they tasted absolutely delicious and slurpable even alone. Thumbs up. Lobster and Saffron Court Bouillon with Fishes and mollusks - $22. I expected a seafood bouillabaisse but this was simply than that with a deep rich clear broth and simply cooked clams, mussels and fish with carrots and onions. It was tasty and I enjoyed it. Rabbit Pastry with Smoked Cheese and Pleurotes - $19. You can always count on French cuisine to prepare duck and rabbit well. This Pastry was filled with tender and delectable rabbit meat and paired with a egg omelette of some sort. Overall, we had a good meal at L'Échaude. We may have missed on the classic (and touristy) French dishes like French onion soup and escargot but we got a meal showcasing French cuisine that was flavorful, unpretentious and filling. L'Échaudé accepts credit cards including Amex.

Yelp
While visiting quebec city fm USA we lucked into finding this place in lower town - slightly off the beaten path so far less touristy. It is very high quality and thoroughly enjoyable experience. Our whole table loved it for a birthday celebration. Best Burrata I've ever had and wine was fairly priced. Professional wait staff, never felt rushed even though we stayed a long time enjoying the warm evening.

Andy S.

Yelp
Lovely lunch in a very nice setting. Had a great sliced steak, cooked rare as it should be ("A Point") although of course they cook it to your liking. Nice presentation and the frites were very tasty as well. My wife had the duck leg, also delicious. Service was good and very polite, definitely recommend (and we are "foodies" from Massachusetts with high expectations).

Yelp
Fine dining at its best in Quebec City. We came here on a recommendation. Had a Kir cocktail. Pear flavored. Loved it. Started with the oyster special. I think they were called Treasures. Sweet and a great tangy sauce. $2/each. Shared the gizzard confit. A bit gamey for me as it tasted a bit more like liver. Lamb chops were excellent. The sides of vegetables were excellent as well and tasty. My friend got the scallops and they were awesome. The service was great. Very attentive and friendly. Seems like more of a local place. Very nice.

Yelp
My friend and I were just just walking by and saw how crowded this restaurant was so we decided to put down our reservation. Food 5:5: I ordered scallop and wine. The wine was a good pairing for the scallop and it was recommended by our waitress. The scallop was very flavorful with the corn, tender and soft as well. I would highly recommend it. Service 5/5: The waitress was very accommodating and patient with our questions. We were seated quickly outdoor with the mini heater. I definitely enjoy the service. Ambience: It's quite romantic and cute, so it's good for a date or hanging out with friends. I enjoyed sitting outdoor and really love the French style.

Yelp
The decor is somewhat modern & sophisticated. Although we waited a bit longer than we expected to be greeted by our server & given menus, the service gradually improved. Our server was warm, courteous & accommodating. The appetizers were quite tasty (onion soup & smoked salmon). Our entrees were also very good (duck & lamb+ratatouille stuffed pasta shells).

Yelp
Classic French restaurant with great food, atmosphere, service! We had scallops and seafood both were great and coked to perfection. Drinks were good too!

Suzanne S.

Yelp
The char with polenta and Morel mushrooms was one of the best meals I've ever had. likewise, the pistachio cake had just the right amount of cream cheese, icing, and raspberry sorbet. The service was attentive, but not hovering, and the ambience was quiet and genial.

Yelp
My husband and I went to L'échadé for our anniversary dinner after our first choice was full. However, we ended up really enjoying our meal here, and the terrace seating was very nice, even though it started to rain. It actually was romantic under the covered seating. The service was very friendly and checked up on us often. We had a crabcake as an appetizer and it was pretty good. We also enjoyed a glass of Québec rosé that was actually very good! Our main courses took quite a while to come out. We watched tables around us get food, finish, and leave, and we were still waiting. Probably about 30 minutes total. We were still enjoying the atmosphere, but we were definitely hungry! Finally, we asked, and the food was on its way out right then. My husband loved his rabbit dish. I had the salmon and it was also delicious. It was wrapped in a crisp pastry and served with a light sauce, veggies, and the tiniest fried potato strings. Altogether, it was crisp, flavorful, and fresh. To add to our satisfaction - I left the sleeve for my umbrella here and at least 30 minutes later when the restaurant was almost all closed up, tables covered, etc., the staff had actually saved it for me. I was happy because it was a new umbrella and I was happy to have its cover back.

Yelp
Cosy French restaurant located in Old Quebec. Service was friendly (though a bit slow). Food was delicious and prices were decent (8-18$ for appetizers, 23-36$ for mains). What I ordered: Court-bouillon de homard et safran, poissons et mollusques, croûton et rouille Suprêmes de caille, gnocchis, croquettes à la courge, poires, olives Assiette gourmande (dessert) I would highly recommend any of these! Their menu is creative and seasonal. The dessert sharing plate for two is especially good: you have many cheeses, crème brûlée, sherbet, sugar pie, dark chocolate mousse, meringue, etc... So decadent!

Phuc D.

Yelp
The food were fine, the lobster cake was outstanding. However the service was horrible. We got the table around 8pm, but the first dishes came around 9pm, main dishes came around 9:30pm. They don't give you free breads while wating for food. That's why were ok to pay for bread to eat before the food served. However our sever Never told us that they ran out of bread, until I asked another server about our breads after 30 minutes waiting. The server said we don't have anymore breads for tonight???

Lee H.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Soup du jour and the beef tartare were among the best I've had. Will definitely return.

Yelp
This was a really nice surprise on a recent trip to Quebec City. Made a reservation an hour in advance and asked for a table on the terrace. Arrived on time and were seated within 10 minutes. The terrace was properaly socially distanced and we watched as the tables were diligently cleaned between clients. The service was fast and the food was absolutely delicious (except the octopus which was a bit of a let down). Yummy dinner overall. Would 100% return!

Yelp
This is a more upscale restaurant that we came into even though we weren't dressed up. We came in for dinner service and were able to be sat down right away without a reservation. The food was good and the service could have been better. They didn't check up on us as much and they took very a long time to bring out our check. For appetizers we ordered Trilogy of Tartares, Bone Marrow with Grilled Octopus. For dinner we ordered the Lobster and saffron court-bouillon and the Cajun veal short ribs. For dessert we ordered the sugar pie. Appetizers: The bone marrow with octopus was really good and lots of depth in flavor. I felt like there was more veggies and garnish than there was bone marrow and octopus. The trilogy of tartares was very good. They had different crispy fried cheese croutons to eat with the different tartares. Both appetizers felt more like sampler dishes than appetizers. Main course: The Cajun veal short ribs were nice and tender. The sweet potato puree was very smooth and paired nicely with the short ribs. The Lobster and saffron court-bouillon, fishes and mollusks was disappointing. It was not filling at all and there was no lobster pieces or hints of lobster in the soup. The flavor was kind of bland. The fish and the mollusks were cooked fine though. Sugar pie: This was a very good dessert. Kind of reminds me of pecan pie filling without the pecans. It was not overly sweet and had an airy macaroon on the side.

Yelp
It's now our go to place for consistently great service, food and wine. Even tho Alexi the Great, is taking time off to strum guitar and discover new music. We will perch at the bar, and continue to relish in Matthews considerable wine insight. Wether you are seeking fowl, fish or no protein , this restaurant is delightful.

Yelp
Wonderful food, very friendly and welcoming service, and nice ambience. We had the rabbit and the cod entrees (fish of the day). Both were amazing. Servers were very patient with our children (and our lack of French speaking proficiency). Nice seating area outside, and indoor environment is very inviting. Would definitely come again if we return to Old Quebec. The only downside was the woman next to us that was staring at our table throughout our dinner. Not sure what her deal was - we're just not that interesting!!

Sarah M.

Yelp
We had a delicious celebratory dinner here. The service was perfect and the food was delicious. Ample portion sizes, while still being elegant and unique. We loved the option to choose 3 appetizers as an entree and the dessert tasting plate. The service was excellent as well. Daniel made our experience memorable. This was a great place for a special dinner in Quebec! Highly recommend.

Maureen S.

Yelp
We had a wonderful evening here. Tried to make a reservation (full) but they had room on the patio (heated) so we sat right down. I had the crusted tuna served over pesto beans and my husband had bean and shiitake crosequis (croquettes) with small roasted (or steamed) turnips, artichokes and zucchini. We each had a glass of wine (mine a Sancerre Sauv. Blanc and his a red Coeur do Terroir.) Each was delicious! For dessert, we shared a strawberry Mille-feuille and a vanilla crepe brûlée with decaf coffees. Again delightfully delicious. My husband also order the local pear wine for dessert. A very pleasant surprise - soft pear flavor with caramel notes - tangy, buttery, sweet, with a bit of salt. Yum. Quite a treat to celebrate our 39th anniversary. The service was outstanding, not stuffy. Waiters were very good at explaining the sophisticated menu to those not familiar with the terms and preparation styles. A must try!
google avatar

Maria H.

Yelp
Food was fine. The service killed this rating. So disappointed. Ordered two cocktails. One arrived the waiter apologized for the second "I made a mistake, it is coming". Fifteen minutes later after our first course arrived. Still nothing. Then he avoided the table. He finally brought the salad and we cancelled the cocktail and ordered wine. The wine storage was behind me. We waited about 10 minute. In the meantime couples had come. Bread was on the table the swooning was underway. We were forlornly looming at their service and wishing it was us. Eventually we received our wine. And then the dishes. And the waiter stopped helping and went to another table. Ordered dessert from someone else, while he took care of the two couples next to us. Picking up the dishes. Some of the feed spilled on my partner. At least this water had the sense to apologize and offer us up free dessert. Would not return because of the lack of interest in our direction. We are all paying customers. No need to discuss the food. It was good.
google avatar

Jay R.

Yelp
Really good French good. Ambiance is velvet, in between casual and formal. The macreuse was tender and ravioli light and delightful. Service is present and very efficient. We will return.
google avatar

Stacy A.

Yelp
This was probably my favorite spot on our trip to Quebec City. Between the professionalism of the staff and how delicious the food was, I wish we could go back more often! We had dinner on the patio, which was lovely; they have heaters in case it is a colder night, which it tends to be in Quebec. My husband ordered the Walleye fish special and I had the gnocchi with shrimp and morels in a lobster sauce. I highly recommend this spot!
google avatar

John Y.

Yelp
My Wife and I were very hungry, and could not find a place as most restaurants were packed. This location had seats available so we decided to give it a try. We both decided on the flank steak. The meal was just average. The price was outrageous for the meal quality. I had a lobster meal the night before and it was cheaper than this restaurant. Won't see me again , save your money.
google avatar

Sarah A.

Yelp
We chose this place somewhat randomly, but our hotel confirmed it was a good choice and they were right. This was dinner on our last night which was excellent. We wanted a good french meal and got one! I LOVE that they offer a carafe (they call it something else) of wine. It's really nice if you have two people, but don't want a whole bottle. We ordered tartare for the starter and I had lobster for dinner which was excellent. I can't remember which wine we drank, but that was good as well. For dessert we got creme brulee with a pistachio macaroon which was the perfect way to end the meal. The service was also impeccable - attentive but not overly so. The restaurant is located on a quite city in lower Quebec City. We ate outside on a covered terrace which was perfect as the weather was beautiful.

Yelp
.We went here the first and second night of our honeymoon in October 2017. Although we didnt have resos, we were able to sit at the bar. We were SO glad we found you!!! Everyone was beyond nice, and even spoke English with us even though the native language is French!! I had the lamb chop and my hubs had a trio of Salmon and beef Tartar!!! If we are ever back in Quebec City, we will definitely be back!!!
google avatar

Francisco G.

Yelp
To start, the first bite of my appetizer, roasted lamb rib, was perhaps one of the best I have ever had. The lamb was perfectly cooked so as to have a juicy flavor that melts in your mouth with the chickpea purée underneath the lamb. The flavors of the dish complemented each other perfectly giving you a phenomenal experience. The main entree I had was the roasted duck leg which was also perfectly cooked giving a nicely crunchy exterior but a sweet (but not too sweet!) flavor to the meat of the duck. I am lactose intolerant and they were very accommodating to changing the dish to my needs without sacrificing flavor. Ended with a sorbet and my glass of rosé wine. Overall, highly recommended!
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
I wish I could give a higher rating. This restaurant is phenomenal. Excellent menu, something for everyone. Someone who wants to explore traditional foods, someone who isn't so adventurous perhaps, and really just high quality ingredients. So much love goes into each morsel of food. Our waiter Daniel was the best. During my 3 day stay in Quebec City my friends and I went back twice for dinner. If that doesn't speak volumes... the Quebec red wine was GREAT. You should never overlook this place.
google avatar

Bridget F.

Yelp
Had the salmon tartare with an Asian flair. It was accompanied by French fries and a salad with a mustard vinaigrette. This was a most unfortunate threesome as the two acids - soy and the Dijon mustard fought and the fries made no sense. It was pretty and my husband liked his smoked salmon. But much better meals have been had.
google avatar

vincent p.

Yelp
Sat down for a late dinner. Had a nice salad and marinated calamari as a 2nd appetizer. The calamari was ok nothing remarkable. Salad was very good nothing challenging here! My wife had the scallops from îles de la madeleine that were outstanding. They carried a local rosé that I found particularly pleasant : La Cantina, rosé du Calvaire. It was a lovely evening. I only took a star out for the not so remarkable calamari but I would go back again. I would go for 4.5 star. The restaurant was a bit short handed and the table next to us ordered the 3 appetizers for $42 and asked for the check when their last order did not show up after a long while. They shared an opinion that the restaurant put out very good food but got overwhelmed.

Yelp
This place was delicious - we sat on the outdoor patio and they had a nice heater! Would recommend the pasta, fish of the day, and beef shoulder!

Yelp
The chef gave me a different fish than I expected. I am so mad! The main course too so long because there was a new chef but still very unsatisfied.

Maggie M.

Yelp
We got there as it opened at 5pm as recommended earlier by the host. The staff were amazing. The attention to detail went above and beyond what was to be expected. The food, drinks and ambiance were outstanding. Loved this place and would highly recommend it.
