"Lechonera Los Amigos, which has a red awning and silhouette of two cartoon piglets with the faces cut out for a photo opportunity. There are picnic tables that can hold 150 people, and behind glass, a determined employee hacks at pork to serve customers." - Katherine LaGrave

If you’re craving authentic Puerto Rican flavors, Lechonera Los Amigos is a fantastic spot to check out. The lechón (roast pork) is perfectly seasoned, tender, and packed with that classic crispy skin that makes it irresistible. Their rice and beans are flavorful and well-cooked, complementing the meats beautifully. Portions are generous, and the prices are fair for the quality and quantity of food you get. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff is friendly, making you feel right at home. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Puerto Rican cuisine or trying it for the first time, this place delivers on both taste and tradition.

This was my first time going and I had an awesome time. The lechon is a must with el Cuero crispy and delicious... the yellow rice with peas was excellent. The Yuka just wow.... everything was great. If you want some lechon you have to get here.... very hefty portions you will be satisfied with the amount of food given. I highly recommend this establishment.. Awesome for family. Friends and even your significant other when they or you or both of you want some lechon. Lol 😆

Evidently this joint is quintessential PR lechonera. We got there right before closing and it felt as if the employees didn't want us there. The lady taking our order was not a happy camper. The lechon itself was moist but lacked flavor, seams all the flavor is in the crispy skin. I wish they had some type of sauce to go with the meat The beans and rice were delicious. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again.

I have read about the Pork Highway and had an opportunity to drive through part of it. Luckily it was early, so there wasn’t a lot of traffic. And luckily, this place was open. I was easily able to find someone who spoke enough English to satisfy my needs. Chunks of pork cut from a whole pig. It was interesting. Different. Really salty. Los Amigos was open early, nice, clean, seemed to be popular, very casual and kind of touristy. Not really North American touristy. But I kind of local touristy. 10am there was already two tour buses parked nearby. There was a big group there for their high school reunion and they seemed to be enjoying themselves. I really think that if it was later in the day, I would’ve been overwhelmed. But that’s just me. Try it. I doubt that you’ll find anything else like it outside of Puerto Rico. And it may be exactly what you’re looking for. I really love Puerto Rico. It has a whole different vibe.

I mean I've eaten at award winning restaurants all over the mainland BUT this slow roasted pork was unreal!!! What a flavor memory. Absolutely amazing and a fun mix of locals and some tourist but def much more real than down in San Juan.
