"Housed in a historic bank from the 19th century, Ledger is a trendy gastropub with ample bar seating and a menu based on contemporary New England cuisine. You’ll find small plates like pork belly served with peaches, cashews, pickled peppers, hot honey, and miso vinaigrette alongside hearty pasta and local seafood. Don’t skip the soft popovers served with green goddess butter and beef drippings." - Celina Colby

"Before opening Ledger, chef and owner Matt O'Neil made waves by winning a number of local burger competitions at his first restaurant (Blue Ox in Lynn), and Ledger's burger is no exception. House ground beef, sharp cheddar, and charred onion aioli on a molasses brioche make for a burger you won't forget. For dinner, Ledger offers some New England-inflected favorites. The lobster spaghetti, in particular, is a perfect summation of Ledger's classic meets contemporary vibe: hunks of fresh-from-the-trap lobster meat are enveloped by house-made corn pasta and finished with fresh tomato, butter, and chili. This popular brunch and dinner spot inside the former Salem Savings Bank has breathtaking details. Among them, a restored original plaster ceiling, a vault repurposed as a walk-in refrigerator, and a dividing wall built from safe deposit boxes. You can practically smell the 19th century fisherman coming in to run errands (in a good way)." - Todd Plummer

Enjoyed a lovely lunch at Ledger! Our party of 10 ordered a variety of menu items, but some stand out dishes were the chowder, scallops wrapped in bacon, Mac n cheese, and oysters. This place has something for everyone, from classic fish n chips to pulled pork sandwiches. A must-stop while in Salem!

Google
The best meal we had in Salem. We went on a Saturday night and made a reservation well in advance, and it was definitely needed as the place was packed. The popovers to start were excellent and unique, followed by the delicious mushroom pasta and a steak special. The kids loved their burgers too. Amazing wine list as well. Highly recommend.

Google
A very odd experience. My friends took me here for a birthday dinner, they made reservations but we weren’t seated until well after our reservation time. Our waitress was not friendly, a bit patronizing even. We ordered 4 appetizers, probably about 6 drinks total and 4 of the most expensive item on the menu, and I asked if I could also have the chicken tenders and she said no that’s against policy since you’re older than 12 and I was like well, okay can you maybe make an exception since we’re spending so much? And just flat “no, it’s against policy” so I opened my ubereats app and placed an order for pick up that just included the children’s chicken tenders. It’s a stupid policy and this just proves how stupid it is. So I brought my to go order of chicken tenders back to the table. They also wanted to charge my friends who wanted to bring my custom birthday cake a fee of $8 per person. My friend was ignored several times, she also took the menu out of my hands when I wasn’t still holding onto it and reading it, the food was great but some of our party’s steaks had tons of fat and gristle on them. None of us felt welcome and several things happened that made us rethink returning. Chicken tendies forever.

Google
This is a stellar restaurant. The best meal I have had in a long time. It is expensive but you get want you pay for. Perfect for an anniversary or birthday. Popovers, duck and bolognese were all food items that are among the best things I have eaten this year.

Google
We absolutely loved this restaurant. The service was great and so friendly. The food was outstanding, particularly the roasted chicken and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were seasoned perfectly and very silky. We enjoyed our experience so much, we went back for brunch the same weekend. The chicken and waffles were phenomenal along with their donuts. Definitely check this place out if you’re in town.

Google
It would be a 3.5 star. I really liked the flavor of my grilled salmon, however, the bok choy was kinda cold already. The salmon was hot but the bok choy was kinda cold. Salmon had good flavoring but was a little dry. The cherry toast though , was wonderful. I would’ve just have that as my dinner and I would be happy. My husband’s steak was well cooked.

I came here for dinner my second night in Salem. When I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the hostess and was immediately seated. My server Maggie was very friendly and attentive. I ordered just the Living Dead Girl cocktail and Wood Grilled Half Giannone Chicken. The cocktail came out super fast, but my main course seemed to take longer than expected since the kitchen was preparing meals for a rehearsal dinner. Even though this was no fault of my server, I knocked off a star for the slow service from the kitchen. Now, the food once I finally got it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the mash potatoes that accompanied the meal were creamy and perfectly salted. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside, and they do offer outdoor dining as well. They have a good-sized food and drinks menu with pretty decent prices for this area. Overall, in spite of the delay in service, I would definitely eat here again, and this is because I really enjoyed my food and like the atmosphere of this place.

Google
Ledger Restaurant in Salem, MA is a standout dining experience that beautifully marries historic charm with modern elegance. Housed in a former 1818 bank, the space retains its original vault and architectural details while offering a sleek, contemporary atmosphere. We started with the Cheese Plate—artfully curated and perfect for sharing—and the warm, flaky Popovers served with heavenly lemon thyme-infused butter. The Radiatori Bolognese was rich and comforting, with perfectly al dente pasta. The evening special, a juicy Pork Chop paired with creamy cheddar jalapeño grits, was a flavor-packed highlight. A must-visit for those who appreciate culinary creativity in a stunningly unique setting.

Yelp
The food at the ledger is amazing from the brunch to dinner service. So good that we ended up here 4/4 days we were visiting back in October. They had the coolest and most delicious holiday drinks. The music made it a whole other vibe. And the decor is so appealing. I hate that it took me so long to make this review but I want to give a big shout out to our waitress Maggie. She made our trip in Salem one to remember. She was so warm and wonderful. Can't wait to come back on our next trip!

Meg C.

Yelp
Been here for brunch and dinner twice, and the main appeal honestly is the rustic chic ambiance of the space with high ceilings, tall windows, brick walls, and grand light fixtures with some of the bank's old (1818!) original charm. It's in the upper tier of nicer restaurants for the area and they use high quality ingredients. Service is friendly, but sometimes slow depending on the server. It's in the downtown area, so parking is tricky, but they provide a parking map (link at the bottom.of their page), which I found helpful. Most recently had a nice holiday dinner with a friend and we enjoyed the popovers, beets, mushroom pasta, duck breast and sticky toffee pudding. As everyone else has mentioned, the popovers are one of the best things on the menu, get them! They are huge, airy, and taste great with the butter and drippings. Beets were good, but would skip. The mushroom pasta had a nice creamy but not overpowering flavor - pasta was a bit too al dente but still tasty. The smoked duck was perfectly cooked, but I didn't care for the frisee salad much. Sticky toffee pudding was a decadent way to end the meal. If you're looking for a nice meal in a nice space in the North Shore, Ledger is a great pick.

Yelp
In a town with many fantastic options to choose from, Ledger stands above them all. We live near Salem and receive requests from friends all the time for restaurant recommendations. Ledger tops our list, EVERY TIME! The ambiance really takes the cake here - there is a huge, gorgeous bar, and many options for romantic seating. Their menu is really interesting and features a lot of local ingredients. You must trust me and order the popovers (they arguably might be the best thing on their menu - wow are they good). Their cocktails are outstanding as well! I am always very impressed by their service and how upscale it feels inside. Be sure to make a reservation in advance, as they can get very busy!

Chris A.

Yelp
Managed to come back even though it's seven years later and the place is still hopping. They serve the most delicate yet strong, cocktails, well worth the price. Had to have the popovers once again, which were to die for. I had the duck breast this time and it was exquisitely perfect. If you were able to snag a reservation here, you have to try this excellent restaurant at least once. The inside is incredibly beautiful. The aesthetics of the entire restaurant is an architectural dream.

Kaitlin H.

Yelp
Came for drinks stayed for dinner. The drinks were great and the garnishes were adorable and on theme for Halloween. Had the Duck for dinner and ran into an issue with my first plate having room temperature Duck and cold potatoes. The bartender was very nice and immediately fixed the situations. The staff was professional and efficient. If you don't have reservations you will be able to sit at the bar or communal table. So if you have small children or a large group plan to have a reservation but if you don't mind sitting at the bar it is really a great.

Rian L.

Yelp
This is a gem in Salem. It is located inside an old saving bank which makes for a beautiful ambiance. We started out with the Dinner Popovers. These are HUGE and very tasty. They were piping hot, doughy and soft in the middle while served with beef drippings and pumpkin butter. This was delectable. For our entrees we ordered the Skirt Steak and the Salmon. These were some of the best seasoned dishes that we have ever had. It is not always the case at restaurants where things seem to be under seasoned. These had great flavor and were very well composed plates. My steak was served with crispy potatoes, carrots and an onion purée. The salmon was served grilled and topped with pepitas with some spring vegetables and bok choy. Our dessert was the only item that was just ok. It was a pumpkin Swiss roll that tasted generic and like it could be from a supermarket. But overall we LOVED our meal here and would definitely dine here again when in Salem.

Kevin S.

Yelp
Wow. I thought this was going to be a tourist trap because it was smack dab by the Haunted Happenings Market, but it absolutely was not. All the food we got was delicious. The restaurant is an old bank, so it was a cool atmosphere as well.

Linda A.

Yelp
This was really an amazing place for brunch in Salem. I expected jacked up prices, but it was pretty reasonable, especially considering the level of professional service and high quality food. The bar is huge and absolutely beautiful. Reservations were mandatory, but the bar was walk-in, which had plenty of seats (by luck?) on a Sunday in Salem in October! My Benedict was the best I've ever had. The breakfast potatoes are orgasmic. My friend's burger was delicious! I will definitely go back next time I am in town.

Justin G.

Yelp
Brunch Review: They only do brunch on Sunday mornings, but it's worth the trip. Ledger resides inside of an old bank, in which they've preserved some elements of the old bank and weaved them into their space. We sat on the right side of the restaurant where the dividing wall was made of deposit boxes. Overall the food was fantastic, portions were large, and the service was on point. What we ate: - Daily Donut: These are a must, if you enjoy sounds of the special variety of the day, order one! You won't be disappointed. - Chicken & Waffles: Simply amazing! The chicken was cooked to crispy juicy perfection. - Side of Potatoes: Not all dishes come with these so we ordered them as a side. They're great breakfast potatoes, but nothing special about these - Sweet Potato Hash: This was the only dish that fell just a bit flat. I would've expected a bit more kale and punch from the peppers as they were sweeter than expected.

Yelp
Oh my god I wish I lived here so I could eat at this restaurant more frequently. Everything was exceptional, so thoroughly thought out and balanced. Incredible handmade details making for an obscenely delicious meal. The popovers are so good it's almost obscene. Think croissants but even better. Paired with the beef drippings and honey garlic butter and you've got a dance of flaky bread exterior, soft interior, and flavor contrasts galore. SO good. Also tried the duck French onion and the squash bisque. So unique and layered with flavors! For more main energy, tried the special of the lamb and pork sausage which was exceptional. Perfectly cooked and really bright flavors. Also had the stuffed roasted peppers which had so much to enjoy. For dessert, my husband got the pear cake and he loved it. I got the matcha chocolate dome and I was floored. It had exceptional taste and textural elements. Drinks and service were excellent too! Honestly, this is one of the BEST restaurants I've been to in a very long time. Its menu is creative, well thought-out, and seriously high quality. Prices were really fair for the care that goes into the food.

Jamie G.

Yelp
10/10 The service, vibe, drinks & food were excellent. We had a wonderful meal of steak frits w/ shiitake mushrooms & the hand stuffed danish blue cheese olives were a perfect complement to a dirty martini!

Nicolette F.

Yelp
5 stars without any hesitation! I never do this.... I asked to speak with the chef. That is how good this food is. He took time even though he was very busy with the dinner rush to come over! That is how you do a business! Very grateful he did so we could rave to him. Ok... so let me now rave to you Yelp people's! Where do I start. Start with the drink. I'm just a girl from NY who loves an apperol spritz and this was on TAP! On Tap I said! They figured out how to mix this and have it come into your glass even more bubbly than when they mix it on hand. The food was definitely NEW YORK restaurant quality food. The flavors were amazing. The care and perfection the kitchen put into each dish was very evident in the presentation and upon tasting.

Yelp
Bonjour, hi! Visiting from California, we stumbled upon this joint after inspecting its neighboring establishment and BOY OH BOY am I happy we chose this location instead. We walked in and we're very impressed by the aesthetic. Beautifully built and decorated, I was highly impressed. They sat us quickly, which was great. Our server, went above and beyond serving us, which was great. The food and drink were equally incredible. Had a little bit of a wait, for the food, but it was worth it. A must visit.

Jenn R.

Yelp
Second time here and will probably visit every time I am in Salem. The ambiance is nice and moody, the decor is simple yet beautiful and the food is always amazing. The cheese plate was epic, and the mushroom pasta?? Favorite thing! I was so happy to see it on the menu again and hope it is a staple item. I am already planning on eating it again when I am there. Drinks were amazing as well and the service was great. Our waitress was on top of everything without being overbearing. Highly recommend!

Rebecca W.

Yelp
Stopped here the week before Christmas. God bless it was slammed for brunch, but they did a good job moving food out quickly. It was pretty loud with everyone's conversations bouncing off the reclaimed brick building, but with everyone getting together before the holidays it's to be expected. Brunch was pretty good, and the coffee was needed. A solid choice.

Lily G.

Yelp
Good service. Cool ambience. Good fit for Salem... dimply lit, rustic exposed brick and wood, open industrial kitchen, dare I say wickedly good PASTA. I went for my birthday. I had a lavender drink that tasted like bubble bath, the froth on the top did not settle my stomach. The pasta however was very nice, as were the popovers (8/10 but not the best I've ever had). I was planning on dessert, but every pasta dish is easily two servings. However, the birthday treat was a cookie! All and all could've done without. Room temperature and dry, not much flavor. Chips-ahoy-ish after that incredible pasta. NOTE: sticky tables. Water glasses could barely be moved, even suctioned some, and my sleeves stuck to the wood.

Melinda M.

Yelp
Return trip this time with family! Food outstanding- cocktails also. Duck, salmon, steak, popovers, oh my!

Rachel B.

Yelp
Ledger was our favorite restaurant in Salem! We got great wine recommendations, our food was fantastic and decent size portions. Our server was very attentive and informative. Definitely worth the price and experience.

Maxim K.

Yelp
We had a birthday dinner with my wife, and while the service from the staff was outstanding, the food was quite average, and we found the management of the restaurant lacking. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it

Diana D.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVED the Ledger! And though I only went in for a drink, the experience was great! Staff was friendly, prompt and attentive. They all smiled and they were doing a great job working as a team. The place is absolutely beautiful, just take a look at that ceiling! I ordered a Painkiller and my partner ordered an old fashioned and they were both really good! Wish I would've had more time in Salem cuz I would've love to have dinner here!

Kassandra L.

Yelp
Reservations were made in advance for a bachelorette dinner, and checking in was so easy and fast. The server we had was absolutely amazing with giving recommendations when asked and she was just a joy to have. Upon getting seated we were right by the kitchen which was like an open kitchen concept. You could see the chefs cooking in the back and was able to get some sneak peeks of the food coming out. Drinks were all wonderful, everyone raved about their food (apps were the bolognese, a melon salad, and oysters and entrees ranged from burger, chicken, duck and steak) all were *chefs kiss*. Food came out within a decent time, and nobody was waiting for their meal. At the end of the night, our lovely bride to be was surprised with a congratulations dessert Highly recommend anyone going to Salem to have dinner here!

Gloria L.

Yelp
This was a great dinner we had on our trip to Salem! First, we visited Salem near Halloween and if you're going any time in October, I'd make reservations at least a month ahead. It was super easy to get a reservation here if you make it in advance! The building was also really cool since I think it's in an old bank and huge so there are lots of tables. Both my husband's dish of steak and my mushroom pesto pasta were delicious and well cooked! I also appreciated that they had more varieties of vegetable options and had a farm to table feel in their food.

Tricia W.

Yelp
I wasn't planning on updating this review until during dinner; hubs and I were like yeah, update that review! HA Came on a whim, no rezy, Saturday night. Planned to sit at the bar, but they were packed; no worries, they had a long communal table that was completely empty. We sat down and soaked in the atmosphere, having not been here since November. Marina, our server, greeted us with a warm, welcoming smile. We started off with cocktails and the tuna tartare app made with taro chips. They were so crisp and perfectly salted the chips went perfectly with the tuna. Marina, ever the great server, came by a few times to ask how our first sips and bites were. Yummo! For dinner, we opted for the duck and bolognese. Both were delicious and nicely cooked. that duck melted in my mouth, and the cherry glaze is something else! Oh yeah we got this yummy lil bite between to hold us over, a pea and carrot salad! We ended with some ice cream, and Marina gave us an extra scoop of her fave guava sorbet, mmmm. While Ledger lives up to its standards of food and ambiance, Marina made the night even more special. She was the epitome of great service! We will come back to see her at Brunch on Sundays! WTG Ledger

Alexa D.

Yelp
Food was amazing and service was spot on. Took a trip to Salem for my 35th with a few girlfriends and this place did not disappoint. They even ended our night with a yummy birthday dessert. Will definitely be back

Hari K.

Yelp
The street corn hash was phenomenal and the drinks were creative! Bridget Bishop's Revenge was an incredibly tasty cocktail. make sure to check out their brunch sides, it's where the bruleed oranges are

Shaila A.

Yelp
Super cool looking inside but we were seated outside which would be fine just that the heater next us wasn't fully on all the way. We kept forgetting to ask as the food was super yummy and we kept ordering more! The heater was then turned up when our table neighbor asked. Food was alright, the cocktail shrimp was okay the pasta could be a smidge more saucy but overall not horrible. I would definitely come back again! The drinks were unique and tasted great recommend the apple on, I forget the cute name they gave it!

MC G.

Yelp
Delicious food, good service and beautiful restaurant. We both had great burgers. Would recommend!

Melanie G.

Yelp
My friends and I went to Salem during the busiest time of the year and it did not disappoint! This restaurant was one of my favorite parts of my experience. We made sure to make a reservation ahead of time. Thank God we did because the wait was 1 hr+ from what we heard. The service was great and the food was even better. The spicy pork belly was definitely the table's favorite. The American Chop Suey pasta was also so delicious. The popovers were unexpected and the spicy butter they brought was a nice touch. The drinks were all great! They definitely fit the Salem/Halloween vibe. The only down said was that we had to sit outside due to limited indoor seating. It was very hot for this time of year. But the restaurant has a really cool industrial vibe. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who visits!

Haley I.

Yelp
I had such a great experience at Ledger. It was my mom's birthday and they made her feel so special. They gave us a beautiful table indoors. Our server was top notch. She was friendly and helpful throughout the night, making sure we had plenty of food and drinks. We ordered the special broiled oyster (mine and my husband's favorite), popovers, and a cheese board to start. My parents and I got the steaks and I have to say it was one of the best steaks I've had. My husband had the duck and he really like it too. For dessert we got the pumpkin yodel. The staff decorated my mom's to say Happy Birthday. It made her night. Thank you again for the perfect special dinner for my mom.

Jolie F.

Yelp
Wonderful experience had at Ledger from start to finish! To start with they had a unique wine list: see attached picture! If you prefer a cocktail: the cocktails are good as well! For entree, I had duck cooked medium rare to medium! The duck was prepared perfectly! The duck was accented with potatoes and array of vegetables that did not overpower the dish! For dessert I had a pseudo sundae: normally I would skip sundaes as does not seem special but was very good: with cherries, rich chocolate, Carmel, nuts and more! The restaurant is a former bank! They kept some of the bank features, including the safe! Big welcoming bar to sit at or if you prefer a table, make reservations! I will definitely be back again!

Krista B.

Yelp
Okay, this was our spot whilst visiting Salem. We came here everyday of our visit. We loved the bar staff and all the interesting people we met, despite the pandemonium of the Halloween crowds. Yes, we were in Salem For Halloween. I'm pretty sure we legitimately had a reserved spot at the bar- a placard and all They have great food, good wine, and cocktails. The inside is modern classy, trendy, which a touch of that nostalgic Salem charm. We love this spot.

Chef Pedro R.

Yelp
Wow the duck was really great cooked perfection. I love duck and if you don't cook it right i will let you know. Sorry jersey shore but the oysters here are far much more fresh and 10x more delicious all hands down Don't get me wrong i love my jersey shore oysters at the tiki bar but ledger has the best oysters Have to give a lot of credit to the waitress she was the best she is the perfect example of a great enthusiastic, well knowledged waitress with a personality of an angel i think her name is JOHANNA

Glen M.

Yelp
Had a great meal here today for Easter. Our waitress Martina set the tone as soon as we sat down with a very warm and friendly greeting and great energy. There was a 3 course prix fixe menu for the holiday and 3 optional appetizers. We decided to try each of the apps and a variety of the prix fixe items. Apps were a popover, deviled egg, and a hot cross bun. All were perfectly prepared and delicious. For the starter course, we went with an asparagus dish that had prosciutto, grits, and a deep fried egg! This was excellent. For dinner, we had a seafood stew and a skirt steak. For deserts, cheese cake, and carrot cake. All items were well prepared, well seasoned and delicious. I really enjoyed the quality of food here and the attention given to balancing flavors and seasonings. The former bank atmosphere was very nice, and the bathrooms were clean. The service was great, and Martina left us feeling happy. We will definitely be back.

Bruna S.

Yelp
Me and my friends didn't have a reservation and was a busy Saturday but the hostess were very friendly and got us a table, service was fast and efficient! We ordered the cheese board for appetizer, really good! For the main course we ordered the mushrooms pasta and the spicy pork belly! Everything delicious!!! The decor is outstanding! We really like it!

Johannah C.

Yelp
Amazing!!!! The food, drinks, ambience and service were excellent. I had the best tuna tartare of my life. The oysters were so fresh and delicious. For the entree, I got the chicken. It was juicy and seasoned. The entire experience was wonderful

Anna F.

Yelp
Fantastic experience here! Such a cool, historical interior. Was a bank- and has these beautiful high ceilings, and some of the security boxes, and the vault still intact. Came with a group for brunch. The long communal table in front of the open kitchen was awesome. They treated us so well for my friend's birthday celebration. Mimosas, tastes of the French toast (with a brûlée-d banana on top), and donuts of the day were a great touch! My chicken and waffles were amazing, and so was my cocktail- which basically had the juice combination that I usually like sans alcohol- citrus, carrot, ginger (with the addition of pineapple and tequila for this version). I found all the elements of the dish to work really well together. Crunchy fried chicken, waffle with poblano butter interspersed perfectly, fresh maple to pour over yourself, and some slices of homemade pickles on the side. Highly recommend!

Tom S.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing experience! The ambiance is sophisticated and elegant, perfect for a special night out. The food was top-notch--every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. Cocktails were expertly crafted, and the attention to detail really showed. Yes, it's on the pricier side, but the quality of the food, drinks, and service makes it well worth it. If you're looking to treat yourself to a classy night out, this is the place!

D T.

Yelp
Great, upscale dining. We ate there twice. Once for dinner on a Friday night and for brunch on Sunday end of September, beginning of October. Food- Each dish was delicious. Drinks- the Bad Apple was amazing! Dessert- Creative! We went for my birthday and the birthday presentation was beautiful and unique. Service- Was better for dinner, minimal service attention on Sunday but after dining for 4 days in Salem, seemed to be on par with most other restaurants. Will definitely return when back in Salem.

September O.

Yelp
Phenomenal food! Service was just as wonderful, and the ambiance is great. Will 100% be returning, both for dinner and for brunch.

Erin S.

Yelp
Can't recommend ledger enough! We went on a Saturday in October (very busy time in Salem) and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of service despite the big crowd. Ledger is in an old bank building, and they incorporated some of the original bank pieces into the decor which was very cool. The food was AMAZING!!!!! Every bite blew me away. Definitely get the fried Brussels sprouts to starts. So good!!! The mushroom Campanelle was great too. The double ledger burger is massive and you could definitely split it with someone. I was impressed with the wine list (and it's kept in a vintage leather bank ledger which was a nice detail). We ultimately chose cocktails for our girls lunch and have zero regrets. They're SO good and SO cute! Every drink has a cute garnish/accessory to give it a nice spooky touch. The food was filling but not too heavy, perfect place for lunch before you explore Salem.

Kurt P.

Yelp
The evening began with an Aperol Spritz, which I thought was quite nice. They claim they have them on tap, don't know how they do that, but however it gets done the result is pleasant. The outdoor setting was very pleasant - it was a nice evening to while away an hour or two before our haunted witch tour. I would NOT want to sit inside - quite crowded and the noise level was off the charts, but I know people enjoy that kinda thing. Caveat #2: if you order a popover be conscious of the 40 minutes or so it will take. Worth every minute (I stole 1/2of my wife's!), but it is a wait. Wasn't feeling the best that evening so ordered light, just the tuna tartare. It was really wonderful. The avocado sauce (guacamole) was perfect with it. The taro root chips were nice and salty and crisp, good scoop for the cubed fish (see photo). Be aware if you need to use the rest room it's quite a haul, seems to be shared with the business on the right. Seemed a little pricey - inflation has been an issue, but $20+ for a burger seems high. Suppose you're paying a premium for the central location.

Kristin N.

Yelp
I planned my sister's bachelorette weekend in Salem, and I'm so glad we booked dinner at Ledger! The food and drinks were incredible, from the starters and entrees, to the desserts. The wine and the cocktails were hard to beat. Everyone had a great time. We loved the historic atmosphere, (an old bank with high ceilings and a bank vault) with a sophisticated, modern twist. Perfect for a night out with friends. We had excellent service from Tyler! If we are ever back in town, we'd easily visit again.

Yelp
I held off till now submitting this as it was around June 15th. I finally decided what a ridiculous experience it really was ... Here it is What an utter failure for a $300 meal. After an exhausting day pre- celebrating my daughter's graduation went to this absolute disaster of a restaurant to relax and enjoy ourselves. While things started out nicely, they managed to utterly ruin the evening through banality and inattention. The managers there appear to be completely vapid -as they acknowledged the disconnect on our exiting the restaurant BUT DID NOTHING to address the issues during ... HOW UTTERLY USELESS. It begs the question - WHY do you exist if you don't take actions to prevent a total meltdown at your patrons table? Bottom line - WHO waits over a full freaking HOUR to serve the main course to a table even after being told repeatedly we were still waiting on our meal as my visibly tired daughter melted at the table. My mother who NEVER complains about her food asked for them to redo her vegetables to reduce the very salty sauce only to have the plate returned with even more sauce! Amazingly incompetent... When the waitress came back with desert menus I think she saw my face and immediately turned around to get our check. Clueless? How clueless and stupid do you have to be to screw up such an expensive meal and then have the freaking managers ACKNOWLEDGE it when you are leaving? Disgusted by the experience and the treatment and the UTTER disregard for my family.

Yelp
Had a lovely dinner here during a girls weekend. Service was impeccable! Not only did the host hold our table 15 extra minutes for us, he also helped us find secret parking space in downtown Salem over the phone so we could make it in! Additionally, my friend has an oddly specific allergy that we told the waitress about. Within 20 minutes it felt like the whole waitstaff knew and no matter who brought our food out they all confirmed with her that it was specifically allergen free! It felt like we were VIPs. The food was amazing (of course it was!) but it was also evident that the "ledger family" are motivated and happy and totally customer focused. As a former waitress, it was so nice to see that. Thank you chefs and all front and back of house staff! Special shout out to Devin the host and Martina the waitress.

Yelp
Stay away unless you want to throw away $100 per person. The hostesses are the only good thing about this place, they are super nice and accommodating! We got a reservation but had to wait a bit so I personally (over 50) went to the bar to order two drinks, and the bartender was sooooooo rude and wouldn't give me two drinks without the other person with me, I said he's over 21 and he said nope! wouldn't even give me my drink! So I left in a huff and told the hostesses what happened and that we won't be getting a drink through him while we wait since he does not deserve a tip. We got seated and they put empty water glasses down and we sat there for 20 minutes with no water and no server, the wine list sucks it's very confusing and they sent over some wine guy to explain, it was quite funny since this place is not a winery and he was just some average joe, so finally we order our apps which was the cheese plate that had hardly anything on it and was quite gross for $24. Then it took about an hour to get our entrees which I only ordered another app for my entree and my friend ordered the duck which was awful.... people were being seated and getting their entrees right away, not us though it was the strangest place and so over priced for what it was, We tried to order dessert but she never came back so we just got the bill, I gave a 10 percent tip which was too much and actually plan to dispute the charge on my credit card since it was so bad, do not go here!

Yelp
Dinner far exceed my brunch experience here, from years past. The popovers are an absolute must-order - don't think about it, don't debate it - just order them the second you sit down. The spicy pork belly is salty, sour, spicy, acidic, and fatty - you wont find many dishes anywhere that hit all of these notes. The wine list is quite serious, and they are always pouring something fancy by the glass, so you get an opportunity to try something bougie without springing for the bottle. I also absolutely love the 'Devilish Diva', and I am not ashamed to say it.

Yelp
If you think that Salem Mass is for just Halloween, witches & Wizards, well you thought wrong!! This incredible eatery set in the heart of the downtown area of Salem is an absolute must try. Whether you're looking for a wonderful bite to eat or looking to celebrate date night, this is the place to be. The building itself used to be a bank that has since been rendered into this beautiful & aesthetic Restaurant while still maintaining the feel & ambience it previously had. Pro tip...!!! Ask to be seated at their "special" table which is essentially built into the old bank vault and overlooking the entire restaurant. Food...glorious food!! Tuna Tartare Hands down one of the best Tuna Tartare I've ever had. Perfectly pairs with ponzu, avocado, scallions, seasons and served with taro root chips. This appetizer is absolutely exquisite and a must try. Black Angus Sirloin Perfectly cooked sirloin at temperature of medium rare, this dish had an amazing flavor profile. With Sweet onion puree, spicy broccolini & Yukon potatoes. This dish leaves you with wanting more. Pork chop (special) I don't normally order Pork Chop but it sounded too good to pass on. The chops were cooked to perfection sitting on a bed of purée & serviced with grilled and nicely seasoned asparagus. If you're a fan of a very well rounded Pork Chop dish, you're going to enjoy this for sure. Overall, The Ledger delivered to me & my beloved a wonderful and memorable date night that we will be talking about for a long time to come.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this restaurant. We had made a reservation but opted to sit at the bar. The architecture & style, giving homage to the building's previous use as a bank, made for a very cool looking place. We were there for brunch - great Bloody Mary. We had the steak & eggs and chicken & waffles. Both entrees were delicious. Zero complaints. Will definitely return on my next trip to Salem!

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. My friends and I were visiting Salem this evening to celebrate a birthday. We made reservations, showed up ahead of time, and were quickly sat. Once sat, a manager approached us to explain that another group of patrons wanted our table and they would move us. We were very confused because you cannot reserve a specific table at this restaurant, solely outdoor or indoor dining with a time selection. We were offered a single glass of champagne for the change but politely declined and left the establishment. It's unfortunate because we were very excited to try the food based on reviews and the smell alone. It's important to note that we are women of color and the other party was not. We were embarrassed watching these women staring and shaking their heads the entire interaction. It's disappointing the restaurant couldn't handle this properly and explain to said party that reservations and tables are first come first serve based on availability. After a beautiful day in Salem it's sad to leave on a sour note.
