Best Chinese Restaurants in the Charlotte, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Tucked next to a scuba shop in Fort Mill just five minutes from Pineville is where you’ll find Szechuan cuisine, traditional favorites, and even sushi (it’s fresh) every night except Wednesday. The brightly-lit dining room is pleasant enough to eat in but not so comfortable to linger past the fortune cookies. Must-try dishes include a Szechuan spicy fish filet with bite-sized fried fish chunks garnished with red chili peppers and oil. Also on the menu are diverse greens like snow pea tips and Taiwan or Shanghai bok choy, all lightly salted and sauteed with garlic. The beef chow fun is everything people love about chow fun — hot, chewy, and sticky— or go off-piste for mala beef tendons or pork intestines." - Shindy Chen

We came back to visit again tonight for dinner and really enjoyed our cashew chicken & hibachi shrimp !! SIMPLY DELICIOUS!! 😋 I have been very impressed with the kind and professional staff at Lee Cafe as well, they always have a smile to share. This is especially true of the manager, Sophia, who puts her heart into making this a terrific family restaurant! I also love that they give you a discount for using cash! More restaurants should do this too!!

Ordered my lunch sushi combo , went to the bathroom and came back to this! Dang that was fast and it was delicious. Price point for 4pcs nigiri, a sushi roll, egg roll, and choice of soup or salad was great. Service was good as well my drink never went dry and the sushi chef is clearly a master of his art! Might have to come back tomorrow too 🤔

My husband was there with his work colleague for lunch. He brought home three $10.95 lunch specials for me, and daughter and father-in-law. My daughter and I got Shrimp lo Mein with fried rice. I got the egg roll and she got the egg drop soup.My father in law got chicken with broccoli with white rice and an egg roll.He seemed to have enjoyed his lunch. I don't know for sure since he's very elderly. But our lunch was just not edible. Not at all what we expected. The Shrimp lo Mein was bland, the noodles gummy, the shrimp tasted off. The fried rice looked broken. Like it was either old leftover fried rice that had been cooked then reheated over and over or rice cooked ahead of time and frozen. I'm a cook and can tell when food is old. The Egg Drop soup was also bland and extremely eggy taste. Very disappointing! We expected better food especially for the price point. Look at the picture!!!! The fried rice is broken and it was dry and bland. The lo Mein was bland and needed flavor!!!!! This is our first and last experience with Lee Cafe. Go elsewhere for better Chinese food. I'm not the only one complaining about the bland Lo Mein and food. Read the Google Reviews!!! I wish I did! Wasted our $$$$ for tasteless food. 😕

Google
Love! In town working and I’ve been here twice this week. The dumplings are delicious! Best miso soup I’ve ever had. The quality of the seaweed was a wonderful surprise. Can’t wait to try some of their specialty entrees. Thank you!

C C.

Google
I have eaten here twice and the quality of the food is so fresh and tasty. The customer service is top notch. Sophia answered the phone the first time I called in an order and her politeness was incredible, and when I arrived there she was just as sweet and authentic as she was during my first interaction with her over the phone. I would recommend Lee Cafe to all and everyone. You have a lifetime customer! God bless you all! It’s important to serve people what you would eat yourself and this shows in Lee Cafe!!!!

Google
So far, the most authentic Chinese restaurant we’ve had in the Fort Mill area. We ordered: Beef chow fun Mongolian beef Pork fried rice Stir fried pea shoots Eggrolls Everything came out blazing hot and freshly cooked. Everything was very good. We look forward to trying more of the menu.

Google
I love it here I go about once a week when I can sneak away without the family it gets pretty pricey paying for 3 since we all like to order the whole menu. I usually deal with Michelle she’s super friendly and has made it a point to learn my name. The last 2 times I went she was not there but there is a new gentleman who is great. The reason I took 2 stars off service is because of the last waitress she rushed me and didn’t really care to check in. They have a full time sushi guy back now which is a plus and it’s always fresh

Google
Anna was an amazing server! The authentic Sichuanese food is to die for and always come here for it!

Yelp
We had the best time at Lee's Cafe! Took our kids for a New Year's Eve dinner and the reviews did not disappoint. We got there early and the place was already packed with folks ordering take out, as well as starting to sit for dinner. The service was not impacted whatsoever. We ordered appetizers of edamame, miso soup, and crab Rangoon which all came out quickly and was delicious. The kids easily split the sweet and sour chicken and chicken lo mein which is their absolute favorite. My husband ordered the super boost roll and said it was incredible. I ordered the rainbow roll and it was also perfectly done. We were all stuffed, and my kids are already begging us to come back again soon. We will certainly be back again soon to try something else since the menu has so many options.

Yelp
Food is fresh - the veggies are crisp - not over cooked and fresh. Service: is ok- the last few times we have eaten there -- they are slow and somewhat unorganized- a few of the wait staff seem unconcerned about it - Ambiance: it's casual, it appears clean I will eat there again even with the below par service

Crystal K.

Yelp
Great service and food! Super clean and cute inside. My chai latte was delicious! Def a great spot to meet with a friend for breakfast/lunch!

Yelp
Best authentic Chinese in the carowinds area. Almost as good as lams but not quite there. But no complaints.

Yelp
Tucked away in a plaza in Fort Mill. This place been around for quite some time. Finally I get to dine in on a Sunday. I walked in and the place is pack. I wasn't sure if I was at the right place. Stand there for a good 15 mins before we have a place to sit down.. Now my friend is Chinese soo she order soo much food, mostly spicy ones.. I order the Beef Chow Fun and the garlic bok choy. Both are my go too and very good. Service is fine. They're busy so I wouldn't say they are attentive. They do what they can. And the ambiance is very chill. Laid back and definitely nothing fancy. If you're looking for authentic Chinese food.. This is the place since they have a separate menu for that instead of the usual fried rice and egg foo young. They also accept large orders. I have 10 lobsters ordered before for my party. Check them out

Yelp
First and foremost I never ever give 5 stars to any places/restaurant's, but this GEM is one of the best Chinese places I ever eating since China town in NYC. Service was on point, food was amazing. Price you can't beat from normal Chinese places. I wished this place was close to me but as usual it's not. lol.
google avatar

Kenneth B.

Yelp
You simply cannot beat the value here. I've tried most of the popular Chinese spots in the NC/SC area. Some are now closed, others simply fell off in terms of quality. Lee Cafe has stood the test of time. You want service? The ladies here are fantastic -- one even helped me carry a large order to my car. The ambiance and decor are clean and neat. And the food is excellent. They do all things well here, from the traditional Szechuan style to good old fashioned American Chinese food. This is one of the places everyone within 50 miles needs to continue visiting and keeping them around because it's so needed, so good and never disappoints.

V P.

Yelp
Ordered a shrimp dish. PAID for a shrimp dish. Got home to find Lee & Co. had swapped it for chicken. They read the order back correctly. So, this is an obvious case of, sneaky & dishonest cost cutting! Super pissed! Probably WON'T be BACK!

Yelp
Ordered take out on 6/6. I wanted to try something I had never had before so I opted for the Spicy Chili Chicken b/c the pics I saw looked delish. It comes with rice but I subbed for noodles. When I arrived, I stood at the hostess stand for what felt like forever waiting to be acknowledged. I figured maybe they were short staffed so I waited patiently. Several minutes later two business men walked in and were greeted immediately by one of the workers who was sitting at one of the booths. Had I realized she was staff, I would have gotten her attention. So I asked her where I pick up my to go order and she directed me towards the bar (mind you there was no one behind the bar). I made sure I let her know I was not pleased with not being acknowledged until the two other men walked in. She apologized but the damage was already done. As for the food. It was packed with chili peppers. Too spicy for me but if you like spice you would probably love it.

Yelp
I think this might be the best Chinese restaurant in the greater Charlotte area. I know that it's about 20 minutes away from Charlotte, but trust me when I say that it's worth the drive. This hidden gem is a haven for food lovers seeking a taste of authentic Chinese food . From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with the delicious smell of dishes that transport you straight to the vibrant streets of Asia. From mouthwatering noodle bowls to delectable stir-fries and savory dumplings, each bite is a symphony of flavors. Lee Cafe has a diverse menu that caters to all taste preferences! So if you're ready to impress your taste buds and embark on a flavorful adventure, make your way to Lee Cafe in Fort Mill. Indulge in the richness of Asian cuisine and create memories that will linger long after the last bite. WHAT WE ORDERED: -Spicy Fish & Veggies: This dish combines fried fish and a variety of fresh, crisp vegetables, all bathed in a spicy sauce. -Spicy Twice Cooked Pork: Slices of pork belly are cooked not once, but twice, to achieve maximum tenderness and flavor. -Lobster Fried Rice: Indulge in the luxurious taste of lobster combined with the comforting goodness of fried rice. Diced lobster meat is seamlessly integrated into the fried rice, infusing it with a delectable seafood essence. FOLLOW @zackaryeats on Instagram/Tiktok for more foodie finds

Yelp
Definitely one of the best Chinese food experiences we have ever had. Haven't had any problems with anything we ever ordered and their beef chow fun is outstanding. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Sean T.

Yelp
Get the spicy fish and veggies, also don't be afraid to try the intestines! Flavors are absolutely delish, not 100% big city quality but one of the best locations in charlotte.

Yelp
By far best authentic Chinese food in the CLT area. Sizzling steak is a must along with General TSO Chicken!

Yelp
Great food, fast service and good prices. They make sushi on the weekends. Sit at the bar while you wait on your to go food or sit and watch them make sushi.
google avatar

Sheri B.

Yelp
I am not going to say that the food was bad because it wasn't however I ordered Mongolian beef and I received Mongolian Chicken.

Sara O.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Big portions. Plates are served family style. The waitress was very friendly and patient with us. Deff will be returning soon.

Yelp
If you are looking for good Americanized Chinese restaurant, this will not be the place for you. Go to Baoding at Southpark or other Chinese restaurant for your beef and broccoli or favorite fried rice. This is the place you go if you are looking for some authentic Cantonese Chinese dishes that are not served elsewhere such as stir fry snow pea tips or braised pork belly. Service here reminded me so much of typical Chinatown restaurants LOL! , again very authentic so expect curt and indifference. I wish this place was close to my house so I can get takeout.

Valeria Hutchinson ..

Yelp
This was our 2nd visit to Lee Cafe. On both our visits we found the service to be speedy, efficient & courteous. The food quality has been consistently the BEST Asian food we have eaten in the Charlotte area. Will will be making this establishment a regular of ours!
google avatar

Dawn R.

Yelp
This is our go-to for Chinese in Ft. Mill. My favorite dish is the flounder with ginger and scallions. It tastes so fresh. My husband loves all the fried favorites. General Tsos, Sesame chicken, etc. They have great hot & sour soup. Service is always very attentive. Parking is right up to the building and convenient. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area.

Yue L.

Yelp
Our go to place for good Chinese food and family and friends gathering. Always have good service great for a big group. And good quality is consistent.

Yelp
Wow! What a hidden gem in a strip mall next to Food Lion right around the corner from Carowinds. I have eaten here before but usually got a topical American Chinese lunch item. This time we went for dinner and it was incredible. We actually had to wait a couple minutes because every table was full with families enjoying a shared meal. Once we sat down our server helped us deciding what we should get. We were looking for some more traditional dishes and it did not disappoint. We had Mapo Tofu, which had a good spice to it, chicken and shrimp with vegetables (not pictures) and chicken and vegetable pot over fire. Everything was amazing! The prices are very reasonable and the service was top notch. Next time when you visit Carowinds or any of the South Carolina border stores, coke check out this small authentic Asian restaurant. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
This place is one of the two places in Charlotte that you can get authentic Chinese food. It's a bit of a drive away from center Charlotte. Located about 30 minutes away from everything. This place is near Carowinds. Worth the drive. The food is always good. My favorite is the Szechwan spicy beef bowl. It has a lot of flavor and is spicy.all the other dishes were delicious too. You can't go wrong with any of them. Tip if you are going during rush hour get there early as this small place gets packed. Food: great Staff: nice Atmosphere: relaxing I recommend this place and will be back.

Willie T.

Yelp
Great food! I'm from So. Cal and enjoy Chinese food. I've tried several in the south west Charlotte and Lee Cafe is by far the best. Not had a bad meal yet! Friendly staff and clean eating area.

Justin C.

Yelp
Everything as expected and the reviews of the food and portions are spot on. Keep up the awesome work Lee Cafe!

Yelp
Worst experience ever.... I have heard such great things about this restaurant and their food. We were very excited to try it, but unfortunately we will never go here again. We placed an order at 4pm to pick up at 6:30pm. I arrived at 6:35, stood in line for an hour only to get up to the register and find out that it was still not ready. There was one employee ringing up to go orders, expediting, answering the phone and finding orders. When I asked how long it would be until it was ready, she said that it could be anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 or 2 hours... they had lots of orders ahead of mine. Meanwhile, ahead of me, they had placed their order at noon for a 6:30 pickup and it also wasn't ready... There was no rhyme or reason, certainly not enough staff to accomodate the orders that they took. TERRIBLE and DO NOT Recommend.

Yelp
Delicious and authentic Chinese food. Highly recommend! Ordered: - Szechuan cold cut beef - salted duck - spicy veggie & meat - pork intestine & chicken - stir fried lamb with cumin - salty fish & chicken with tofu clay pot - salt & spices fried pork chop - ong choy

Amber A.

Yelp
Food is very good and really hot. Loved the hot and sour soup and how crunchy the general tso chicken was.

Yelp
Amazing service and environment. Attentive, fast, and reasonably priced food that was delicious. Would return and try their sushi!
google avatar

Yush H.

Yelp
Got a late lunch here. The dishes were a hit or miss. The salt and pepper pork chops were delicious. Nicely fried and well seasoned. Was not a fan of the deep-fried then stirfried pork intestines. It was extremely salty and the intestines were very fatty. The spicy szechuan fish dish was not very good. The fish had a pasty cardboars taste to it. The cumin lamb was well done. pea shoots were nice and fresh and very good as well. Overall a very decent experience. Not too many authentic Chinese restaurants left in charlotte anymore. This is one of the best left.

Yelp
Ordered ahead, couldn't pay online, arrived to an obnoxious line, no worries I ordered online a couple hours ago and I'm on time and I have my order number, they are calling numbers around the same range as mine, walk up to the front because I just need to pay and get my food, these other people are placing orders and getting numbers 50 to 60 higher than mine, not sorry- sent to back of the line again, get to the front after an hour, see tables with large parties come eat and go, they have not yet started to make my food, would I like to pay now? No, I left in a huff. Won't go back. Don't recommend patronizing this establishment. I have seen others with the same story, so it is on purpose and not an isolated experience. Is that Hot Pot place open yet?
google avatar

Desmond F.

Yelp
Best Chinese in sc and nc. I'm super picky when it comes to Chinese but this spot never disappoints. I definitely recommend this place to visit you won't regret it.

Joe H.

Yelp
New Year's Eve - horrible experience for pickup order. Called in an order for dinner. Arrived to pickup around 6pm. Their "pickup line" was easily over 25 people, along the bar and wrapping around tables. Over 1/2 hour wait to get up to the girl. My order was sitting there ready for who knows how long, barely warm. She didn't know, with many other orders sitting their waiting. They don't know how to handle a crowd apparently. Most of my order got thrown out at home due to safety concern. Too cold.
google avatar

Ritesh M.

Yelp
For a few years this has been a consistent spot with a great selection of dishes. Their veg fried rice is always solid with fresh veggies and great flavor. However my last visit with friends has shown the attention to service and quality has dropped tremendously. My friend ordered a beef and scallop dish and upon the first few bites- noted the dish was dangerously undercooked. He pulled the meat to the side to show the staff it was still raw. We told the waitress and she took the dish back to the kitchen only to return the plate in less than 5 minutes. The plate was warm but none of the food had moved (including the rice). They literally just microwaved the dish. I would have presumed a re-fire or a replacement dish but not at all. The waitress simply put the dish on the table and walked away never to even check if the food was now cooked. My friend ate no more of the food and no concessions were made or questions asked as to why an entire dish was untouched. We were very disappointed in the decline in service and quality and more importantly the risk that raw proteins pose to customers! Really hope this was an off-night for them but this is the biggest no-no in our books.
google avatar

Rondel G.

Yelp
Fantastic Chinese restaurant. The servers were kind and friendly. Not to mention attentive. Hands down the best egg drop soup I have ever had. Highly recommend if your looking for Chinese and in the area.

Phyllis G.

Yelp
We live in Fort Mill, and we're happy to find a Chinese restaurant in our neighborhood. But several bad experiences have led to our decision to never return. The first negative was when the hostess wasn't happy that we were only two people coming in to dine. On other visits, the main course was served before we had finished our appetizers. The final straw was when our entree was served before our appetizers and sushi. And we always ask ahead of time to give us time between courses. More than three strikes, but they're out. Which is unfortunate because the food is tasty.
google avatar

Oluseyi O.

Yelp
Yet again, I find myself craving the spicy veggie and fish. And, yet again, poor service. The woman at the counter literally argued with me over my order. Since my second visit, I've always gotten the spicy veggie and fish, with added mixed vegetables (as it doesn't actuallycome with vegetables). She kept saying she wouldn't place my order that way, it would ruin the dish. I kept explaining this is the way I've ALWAYS ordered it, and I like it. She then said "if I make it like that and you don't like it, I'm not giving you money back!" Ma'am you are rude! I wouldn't ask for it back, and if I am telling you this is my preference, please prepare my $22 fish to my liking. I can't say I'll be back, I'm over the rude and poor service. No matter how good the food is!

Yelp
I was doing errands in Fort Mill area, so headed here for some Singapore Noodles. They were open only for Take-Out, which was fine...but that was NOT the info given on Yelp, or their website. Definitely need to update that info. I think the woman who who took my order said it was open for dine-in on Wednesday thru Sunday, but can't be certain. The Singapore Noodles were good, but just not the best I've had. Think that honor still goes to Great Wall or Doan's, where they add in more veggies, like Carrots...and have a bit more flavor. The portions were fairly small, but it's very affordably priced (less than 10 bucks!), so no issue there. Still, I remember being more impressed with their Wontons, Chow Fun, Spicy Chili Chicken and Spicy Fish...so I'll probably go back to those next time. I've been here several times by now, and it's a good place for a wide range of authentic Chinese specialties. Can't say that you'll get the most friendly, courteous service here, but in terms of food quality, it's probably the best in the Fort Mil/Rock Hill area.
google avatar

Trellis M.

Yelp
I'm always pleased with the food when I come here. The service is nice and quick! A great spot for a quick dinner or for a family dinner.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. Ample portions, service is spectacular, food comes out quick and hot.

Yelp
We've had Szechuan food that we love while traveling, but it was hard to find in Charlotte. Several people recommended Lee's to us. Covid-19: you can order over the phone. Our order was ready in 15 minutes. You have to go inside to pay and pick it up. I'm not sure if they were open for dine in, but I got there right after they opened and no one was inside eating. Employees had masks on. We got the Spicy Veggie & Fish and the Spicy Chili Chicken, both with fried rice. The Spicy Chili Chicken was good, but we both loved the Spicy Veggie & Fish more. Neither of them were even remotely spicy to us which made me sad given the names. After we went, my friend told us they have a secret menu that has Seafood Hotpot that we should have gotten. I love hotpot, so I'm sad I didn't know about the secret menu. If you want Szechuan food in Charlotte, check this place out!

Barb W.

Yelp
Four friends went to Lee's. 2 had sesame chicken, 1 had Mongolian beef and broccoli, and 1 had shrimp with lobster sauce, 3 had spring rolls and 1 wonton soup rounded out the meal. Nothing was good, the chicken was full of gristle, the beef tough and the shrimp and lobster sauce had no flavor. The soup was also tasteless. Our server was rude throughout the experience. We asked for knives she wanted to know how many, she brought 1 and we had to ask for 3 more when the meals arrived; we asked for duck sauce, she grumbled wanting to know how many 'packets' we wanted. She presented checks before 2 in our party were even finished with their meals. Rest assured, we have lived in the area several years so we're familiar with Lee's but it's not good anymore. Don't waste your money. This is not a descent place to have a meal and none in our party will darken Lee's door again.

Yelp
FORT MILL, SC 02/05/20 LUNCH +The Spicy Chili Chicken was pretty good. +My colleague's Lightly Fried Tofu with Shanghai Cabbage was pretty good, too. +This place was packed during lunch hour, which was a good sign. -The customer service was wack. Similar to some other reviewers' remarks, we were sat in a deep corner of the restaurant near an exit door (where the employees go out to smoke cigarettes). The wait staff attended to other tables that were seated after us, which is ridiculous. -We ended up having to order take-out due to lack of table service. The main host apologized and I could hear him talking to his waitress about the incident, which made me feel a little better at the time. -My other colleague did not think his Sizzling Beef entree (22.00) was worth it. He said his fried rice was just oil and soy sauce; no vegetables. Overall, I would return to try some other dishes, but they need to work on their front-of-the-house operations.

Matt O.

Yelp
Nice people, quick service but the food was bland. Disappointed as I read a lot good reviews. Nothing special sadly
google avatar

Liz S.

Yelp
I had picked up a meal before and wasn't super impressed so we went as a family to try it out. When asked for a booth, we were told sharply those are for parties of 6. We have a two year old we like to contain... but we said ok. They forgot to add my egg roll to the order and just didn't offer to add it just said oh wells. My (appetizer) soup that came with combo I had to ask for after I had already received my meal. There seemed to be an aura of unfriendliness the whole time. We did not like the food either. I felt the wonton broth was watered down and the fried rice felt more like brown rice.

Yelp
So my friends rave about Lee's Cafe and since it in my hood I had to give them a try. I definitely hate Americanized Chinese food but feel like Lee's has found a happy median. They offer a lot of authentic Cantonese dishes and a few Americanized Chinese dishes. We came during lunch and ordered off the lunch menu. Since I like to be difficult I wanted to mix 2 different line items. I must have confused the waiter cause he sent the owner over to take our order. She made it super simple and I got what I wanted Broccoli with Chicken in Spicy Garlic Sauce. My mom ordered the the Mongolian Beef. We both got the egg fried rice and a side egg roll. We both liked our menu items. My dish had just enough spice to it for me. The portion was plenty. My mom dish was a little sweet but I liked the taste and the veggies had a nice crunch. I did have to ask the server for everything like our egg rolls were missing and I needed a refill on my tea and a few other things. At the end of our meal the the owner came over again and spoke with me for a bit. I told her about my friend's recommendation and asked her about the Hong Kong Lobster. She educated me on the cooking process. I definitely have to give it a try. Lee's Cafe 1046 Regent Pkwy Ste 107 Fort Mill, SC 29715 Tuesday November 12, 2019 12pm

Yelp
I use to love this place. The chef has changed I could tell, food now is so bland. Literally No flavor at all. Im very disappointed

Richard L.

Yelp
Best Chinese food in greater Charlotte area. Favorite dishes are spicy veggie and fish, kung pao chicken (x-spicy), amazing sushi that's reasonably priced. Really can't go wrong with anything on the Szechuan menu, always flavorful, consistent, and interesting dishes. Can't recommend enough.

Yelp
Food has no flavor I order a sesame chicken And it wasn't cook all the way this is the second time it has happen.
