Where to Order Chinese Takeout and Delivery in Philadelphia - Eater Philly

"The unassuming Lee How Fook in Chinatown has been serving some of Philly’s best Cantonese fare for more than three decades. The menu is long, but first-timers should start with the wonton soup, salt-baked squid, and orange beef. Takeout and delivery are available, in addition to a small number of indoor dining seats." - Jillian Wilson

Had an excellent meal here after rock climbing on a Friday night, I was able to walk right in and be served immediately. Lee How Fook has been around in Chinatown for a long time it seems, and while the interior and atmosphere won't blow you away the food was solid and classic and I'm excited to return for more. I had heard a lot about the salt-baked squid and it was actually the main reason I tried this spot in the first place, and it definitely lived up to the hype! Perfectly lightly battered, salty, and every bite made you want to take another. It had a touch of freshness underneath with some jalepeno and green onion which was appreciated since it's a fairly one-note dish. While I 100% recommend this dish, I would note a couple things: first, I would recommend splitting it as more of an appetizer since it is fairly simple and salty, and second, I think if you pay like $1 more you can get the salt-baked squid AND scallop, which would probably be great! I also ordered the crab rangoons which were very good and quite surprisingly large. They were rich and creamy and a solid choice. There isn't anything negative I can really say, but at the same time nothing has quite blown me away YET so I'm leaving a 4-star review. However I do plan to return for some other Chinese-American classics so maybe I'll amend my rating after a second visit. Overall, I think Lee How Fook is an overlooked spot that you should give a chance!

This place will definitely be a pre-AMC movies spot from now on. Enjoyed its small unassuming nature, the hello kitty and Disney decor. The service (one woman team) was excellent, as was the sweet and sour chicken.

Went here for dinner with some friends. The food was delicious. It's small and cozy inside but worth the coziness for the delicious meals. The good was very reasonable and easy to get to. Parking wasn't easy for Philadelphia, but that's nothing new. The service was amazing as well. Will definitely be back.

Google
Excellent dumplings, top 5 easy. I didn’t get any sauce but they honestly didn’t need it. Great texture, good filling, would definitely order again. Hot and sour soup is also excellent, comes in a monster portion and is packed with veggies, tofu and meat. Pork buns were also a hit. Not the best I’ve had, but they were solid enough. I would order again. Orange chicken blew my mind. Tender and moist chicken inside a fantastic tempura breading smothered in thick sweet sauce. This is definitely a winner here. Fried rice was also good, the chicken is quality cubed dark meat and I wouldn’t hesitate to order this again. Singapore noodles were nothing special, I would try something else next time. Not enough curry or spice or something. That being said, it did have plenty of meat and veggies mixed in so it’s not like I left hungry. Pad thai was not pad thai… tofu had good texture, noodles were fine, just no flavor. Stay away from this. Pretty small dining area, 8-10 tables but there was no one around on a Wednesday night, though lots of takeout folks passed through.

Google
Pan seared vegetable dumplings were so flavorful. Bean curd general tso was delicious. My husband had pork buns. So very good.

Google
Ordered the shrimp fried rice and the rice looked like it was mixed with white rice it also looked mushy! It didn't have any flavor. In the past the shrimp fried rice actually was great but whatever happened I have no idea. Last time I order from this restaurant

Ale

Google
The peking duck was delicious. I wish it came with cucumbers. You can order their cucumbers appetizer without sauce,(it is a game changer). For the best bite add some of the spicy sauce as well. The tea was also so good here, not bitter at all. This place was great

Small but comfortable indoor seating with excellent food and kind service. Stir fried udon and orange chicken were amazing; the fry achieved was perfect!

Yelp
How have I gone all my life without eating at LeeHow Fook? Or have I been there and just forgot? Anyway, I'm so glad I went recently. I needed delivery, and they deliver. I went with hot and sour soup, green beans, and Fook's noodles. If they put their name on the dish, I assume they are proud of it. They should be--those noodles are delicious. They have the right amount of chewiness, and the sauce is rich and flavorful from the pork. The green beans were also really tasty. The hot and sour soup was just fine. i went to bed with a full belly, lots of leftovers to enjoy later, and a Warren Zevon song in my head.

Yelp
I've been coming to LHF for about the last 30 years, and used to really think it was a great restaurant. Maybe my tastes have changed radically, or else it's really gone down hill. Our usual family favorites - salt baked shrimp, pan fried noodles, bean curd with mushrooms - they didn't have the garlic snow pea greens, so we went with the Chinese broccoli. I found everything to be disappointingly bland. Adding insult to injury, the fortune cookies (of course, no one cares about fortune cookies, but they do seem symbolic), were so stale they were starting to crumble in the packaging. I was thinking, if you can't even end with an edible fortune cookie, maybe it's time to call it quits. I'm staying with a 3-star rating out of long-term loyalty. Might stop back one more time, maybe they were having a bad night. Also note that they have a 3.9% processing fee on credit cards, perhaps the highest I've ever seen.

Yelp
One of my go to casual Chinese restaurants in Philly. Pork buns are my favorite here. Wonton soup, chicken lomein and pan seared pork dumplings are also good. Bbq roast pork and chicken with black bean were also decent options. Service is always fast. Location is small but everytime I have gone I get seated quickly and get served within a few minutes. This is usually the restaurant I choose when I want quick decent Chinese food.

Yelp
One of the better priced Dim Sum spots but does not offer top quality food. The food here is decent, but not the best. Still, it is a family owned dim sum spot that does not seem too busy so I would recommend coming. They start off by providing Free Jasmine Tea (many places will charge for this) Shumai - 6 pieces - decent taste and flavoring Har Gow - 4 pieces - decent tasting, well cooked so that the skin wrapping was not hard Beef Ho Fun - little underwhelmed. Looks great but multiple hard pieces of noodles Pork Soup Dumplings - not a ton of soup inside but tasty and they were not punctured when served Inside is not the cleanliest feel and is fairly small. Most of the buildings in chinatown are on the older side, so things do not feel as clean overall. The server (I assume one of the owners) was overall friendly and able to converse in Cantonese (though it seemed not purely fluent). Nothing crazy in terms of service but attentive when needed. The food is decent. There are no carts but the dim sum was definitely steamed fresh which I appreciated. The free tea was also a plus. It's also nice that they accept Venmo (but heads up that credit card is an extra 3.95% fee), since we had to skip out on some other dim sum places cause they only accepted cash. For reasonably priced dim sum, would continue to support the local shop! Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Food: 4/5

Yelp
My Fiancé and I took a day trip from DC to Philadelphia. One of the places we stopped by was Lee How Fook. My claim is that this is the best Chinese restaurant in Philadelphia has changed. This is the best Chinese restaurant in Philadelphia and DC. Somehow their orange chicken got better. This will go down in history as my favorite Chinese restaurant. When I lived in Philadelphia, this restaurant would be the place I take my family too.

Yelp
I originally found Lee How Fook bc I had a celiac family member visiting who wanted to eat in Chinatown. I found several reviews that said they do a good job accommodating gluten free diets. We came here and I've been a fan ever since. I came back again last night bc I really wanted to eat the oyster and ginger hot pot which is one of my fave chinatown meals. We got the soup dumplings which were pretty good but not very soupy. Despite this, I would order them again. We also got the cold cucumbers - which is usually a fav for me. This is not one of the better cucumber dishes I've had as the sauce is kind of tasteless. We also got the salt baked shrimp, scallop and squid. I liked this meal but not enough to order it next time we come. The real star is the oyster and ginger hot pot. I just love this dish so much. Last night it didn't seem as big as the other times I've ordered it or as gingery. But it was still amazing and will keep me coming back. Also, back when my celiac relative was here they made it gluten free for us - and it was so good made that way too. So def order this every time you come. The only reason I knock them down a star is bc they charge almost 4% fee to pay w a credit card here. I'm not even sure that's legal to do - instead they should just give a discount for paying w cash like other restaurants.

Yelp
Classic restaurant in Chinatown. The place was about to close but was able to order my food last second. Very authentic restaurant. I found the shell a bit too over cooked but beyond that it was really good. I will have to try more food from here next time.

K D.

Yelp
The food was excellent and the service was friendly and efficient. We liked the soup dumplings, Peking Duck & fried rice. General Tso's chicken was good, but the sauce was a bit heavier than I like but I still enjoyed it. It's a smaller restaurant with about a dozen smaller tables and one extra large round table in the center. It's not fancy, but comfortable. It also seemed to do a fair bit of takeout too. It does charge a service charge for credit cards and you can also use Venmo & Cash app. We'll definitely come back when we're in Philly.

Yelp
Everything I hoped and dreamed it would be!! Quiet lunch, family owned and wonderful, dim sum was amazing. Definitely buy some of their special sauce to go, wowza!

Yelp
This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. From the chicken and mashed corn soup to the fried rice this restaurant never lets you down.

Yelp
The chicken with ginger and scallions was an excellent classic Cantonese dish. It wasn't too heavy. The flavor as is was under seasoned. So add sauce or salt. That will elevate it. But the chicken breast was well-velveted. The ginger and scallions was extremely flavorful. And the portion was generous. I enjoyed this meal.

Yelp
After ALL these years - still the best dumplings in Philadelphia Chinatown The food is always delicious as the continue to use the original recipes; authentic Chinese cuisine

Sophia H.

Yelp
TL;DR - skip it, there are better options in Philly. We ordered delivery so can't speak to the ambiance but we'll be skipping this place from here on out anyway. Food was quick and hot but man, was it bland. We got rangoons, chili wontons, fook's noodles and a chicken noodle stir fry. All bland and the noodles in each weren't cooked well. It felt like they boiled it for as whatever time they felt like instead of how they should be. Rangoons were literally just fried cream cheese, no discernible crab flavor. Chili wontons were not chili at all, actually arrived completely dry. I don't know if they just forgot the chili or what but I won't be trying again to find out. Maybe this was all a fluke, but order with caution.

Richard H.

Yelp
Fast carry out. Serving was decent size. Hot. There was enough chicken. Flavor was very bland. Not spicy, no peanut. No lime, nno cilantro, very little brown sugar. Basically, noodles, white onion, and green onions. Ambience looked ok. One medium sized room with maybe 8 4 topss. Dimly lit. But looked nicer than most chinatown restaurants in philadelphia. Would not recommend based on blandness of my meal. Maybe other items taste better?

Yelp
Very unwelcoming place. It was THE worst experience I have had in any Philadelphia establishment. Spend your money elsewhere!

Yelp
Pretty decent chinese food for this island girl. We ordered pad thai with shrimp, sweet and sour spareribs, won ton soup, and crispy chicken.

Yelp
Ordered some delivery this past Saturday because I had a taste for something healthy and hot- so ended up getting a egg noodle soup with chicken. We also ordered crab Rangoon and Peking spare ribs. This was my first time ordering from here but I am glad I did. I ordered from Door Dash and the food took about 35 minutes to arrive. When the food came it was fresh and hot. The egg noodle with chicken had ramen in it with bak choy. The broth tastes so flavorful and the chicken was cooked perfectly. I didn't try the Peking spare ribs but they looked good- they werent like usual spare ribs on the bone. They were breaded and covered in sauce. The crab Rangoon came in 5 pieces and were very fresh. They tasted really good.

Yelp
No stars! I made a reservation 3 days ago for 8pm to show up and find there was no table reserved for my party. The server tried to sit us in the door way at a table with 3 chairs when I specifically made the reservation for 4. I traveled an hour and a half to visit my son and raved about this restaurant. Will never return! Went across the street Bai Wei and will never go back!!!! Bad bad bad business practice for a restaurant!! I wouldn't even give it 1 star but that's the only way this will post!

Yelp
This is our go-to place in Chinatown. The food is always fantastic, and the menu is filled with so many outstanding options. The owner, Emily, is so nice and friendly and the staff is welcoming and helpful. Food is served fast, fresh and always delicious. Try the salt fried calamari, the beef hot pot, and the wonton soup. Also love the sautéed pea pod leaves. Amazing. This place is my absolute favorite

Yelp
Wanted to like this place, it was recommended by a friend but now I might reconsider that friendship. I ordered the chicken with Chinese broccoli, the broccoli was great the chicken was rubbery and had an odd flavor. I also ordered the Lo Mein with Ginger Sauce and Scallions. Well I got Mei Fun, not Lo Mein and the sauce was so salty it was inedible and I have to toss it. If I was at the restaurant I would've said something but since I ordered take out I can leave a review and call to let them know. First time ordering from this place and unfortunately I don't think I'll be back. Disappointed. If this is "the best" Chinese in this city I'm scared rt now.

Yelp
I've never eaten bad Chinese food in Philly, unlike in other major cities with high concentrations of Chinese people. This city is the only one to have a 100% score with me. And Lee How Fook (easy to mess up those words, watch out!) has some goodies available. On my visit, I had to get some roasted duck, and I got a side of vegetable fried rice. As you can see, they gave me some hot sauce, OK, that is legit Chinese food. No complains, better get it while is hot! Service is friendly, people are friendly, prices are good, parking is a few blocks away, it's all good.

Nicole R.

Yelp
The food at this restaurant was delicious. I went with someone who doesn't particularly love fish, however the fish was so good they ended up enjoying it. The place is pretty small, however they offer a very family friendly feel. There was only one woman working at the time, but she did a great job serving everyone at the restaurant. Would definitely return here!

Yelp
Pathetic joke. My $17 order of Singapore noodles was plain boiled spaghetti noodles with zero seasoning and no sauce.

Yelp
"I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand, Walking through the streets of SoHo in the rain. He was looking for a place called Lee How Fook's. Gonna get a big dish of beef chow mein. Aaooooooo Werewolves of London. Aaooooooo. Aaooooooo. Werewolves of London. Aaooooooo." The historic truth is that the werewolf wasn't from SoHo, London, but Chinatown, Philadelphia. Poetic license for a largely underappreciated songwriter and rock performer, Warren Zevon. He spent a lot of time in the city, especially in the early 1980s, when he was living with, and ultimately married to a well know radio DJ here. They lived on Rittenhouse Square for several years, before divorce drove him back to California. If you were very fortunate, you saw his concert at the TLA on South Street, and had your musical life changed. He really visited the small Cantonese restaurant on the corner of 11th and Spring Streets and used it for inspiration for the song, "Werewolves of London." Even the kitchen door in an alley off Spring Street, found its way into the lyrics, as the door you must not open unless you sought the fate of the, "Little old lady, got mutilated late last night..." It remains a scary place even today with decades of thick, black grease caked to the walls and pavement. Who knows what evil lurks in those sewer drains?! So, I was there the other day after a haircut across the street. I had been singing his songs as I drove to Philly, and wanted to pay homage to the man and have some good Cantonese food. The dining room was small, with no more than eight tables. It was well preserved in dark mahogany stained panels. It was fairly clean and tidy for a joint in C.Town. We were the only customers on arrival, and took liberties to walk around a bit and take a few photos. Amazingly, not a thing memorializing Zevon. Maybe this third generation Asian kitchen doesn't know from American rock and roll. Warren would no doubt get a laugh out of that. We ordered Salt Baked Squid, Orange Beef and Fish Hot Pot; more than enough for two of us, but plenty to bring home for the sons. They were all very good, if not best of breed. The squid was tender and mildly salty as expected. The beef was plentiful with a good dark red amber sauce and sliced onion and green pepper. The fish arrived in a covered casserole still bubbling from the fire in the kitchen. Soft, moist and delicious. Each dish was $11.95. Credit cards accepted. This was one of the better Cantonese meals eaten in C.Town, made more desirable by the ability to think about Warren Zevon sitting at the table in back, chowing down and noodling about a song that we are still singing long after his death. Aaoooooooo!

Yelp
Throughout COVID we have been especially impressed by the safety measures taken in Chinatown. But tonight it was clear that LHF is a dangerous mess: a combination of customers being reckless and a business that doesn't care. 6-7 men waiting for their much-delayed and confused orders, huddled close together behind tables that serve as barriers trying to ask how mine the wait will be. Overwhelmed woman unable to answer the crowd. No one tells the crowd to break up and exit the restaurant. A perfect set up for viral spread. Four women with masks pulled down to their necks working in the kitchen. So disappointing.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
All the reviews about the pan fried dumplings were 100% correct. They were exquisite. Our entrees were equally delicious. Everything came out piping hot from the kitchen. Absolutely recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
This review is for Delivery only. I had food delivered from Lee How Fook. Unfortunately the food was disappointing, ranging from okay to lacklustre. For the food report, I use ^ to indicate a half-star and * for a full star. So, ***^ means 3.5 stars: *** Snow pea leaves: ok *** Sea bass fillet Hongkong style: this was quite a small portion *** Roast duck Appetizer: ok but not great **^ Sauteed asparagus: more soggy than sauteed **^ Sauteed watercress with preserved bean curd: watercress was too coarse & there was no preserved bean curd taste at all *^ Szechuan eggplant: not great, the eggplant was the wrong texture, kinda spongy *^ Kung pao scallops: not much scallops ** Vegetarian vegetable dish: had broccoli, napa cabbage, bamboo shoot, baby corn. This may have been Buddha Delight, but I'm unsure, since this was not the dish I intended to order. At any rate, it was a fairly basic dish

Yelp
Good no frills Chinese spot. Got the orange beef, usually more of a chicken person but this was great! Also wasn't very spicy. Also got the shrimp friend rice, crab Rangoon, and sautéed bok choy. No complaints everything was very solid.

Yelp
Good affordable eat in Chinatown. Food is delicious. Somewhat smaller portion compared to other restaurants but it's okay. Lots of good food to order. I recommend trying Fook's noodles to start. The stir fry water spinach in fermented tofu is one of the best I've had. Highly recommend coming here.
google avatar

Annie C.

Yelp
Got solid take out from this restaurant. I love that you can pay with Venmo or cash as it makes payment touches and convenient! Per everyone's prior recommendations we got the salt bake squid. It was crispy and the medley of peppers atop made this fish delicious. I also got beef chow fun, which is my personal favorite dish. It was good but didn't quite have the high heat of caramelized noodles I like from high heat woks. Overall solid 4 stars and would return for takeout.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered walnut shrimp through Caviar. Food arrived fast. It comes with rice. The shrimps are big and fresh. Lightly breaded and not greasy. The mayonnaise sauce is a perfect complement for the dish. It's not too sweet. The walnut isn't hard. Broccoli is fresh and perfectly cooked. Definitely recommend this dish
google avatar

Yelp
Staff was very nice. Food was delicious! The place was clean and bathroom very clean. I recommend this restaurant.!

Eric M.

Yelp
If you're looking for mediocre Chinese food that's neither fresh nor tasty, this might be your spot. The empty dining room should have been a clue to keep walking when we stopped here for dinner after a show at the convention center. Although the menu looked promising the food was a disappointment. It's a mystery to me how so many people have given this place excellent reviews. Don't let this restaurant's reasonable prices and convenient location persuade you to dine here. There are much better options available.

Yelp
Officially my favorite Chinese place on the east coast PERIOD!!!!! Got the salt and pepper shrimp!!! Beef fried rice and the wonton soup which were all 5/5!!!! I'm not gonna lie though, I was very apprehensive about going here because it was empty inside and the only people dining were cops! So thankful to give it a try because WOW!!!! Counting the days until I get to go back. Thank you guys for the great hot fresh food!

Yelp
3.5 for food, 4 for service/cleanliness/ambience/pricing Setting: I came with my parents from out of town for lunch Ambience: Quiet restaurant right around noon with clean tables and 2 other families already seated and eating happily Service: Pretty quick/efficient with getting food onto the tables Food: Dim sum menu for lunch everyday - somewhat limited compared to the other dim sum restaurants, but $2.99 for each dish Feng guo - soft texture, kind of bland taste - dim sum menu $2.99 Jiajiangmian - Nice and salty, with a skinny noodle - average taste Salt baked squid - which the staff highly recommended - is actually nicely salted, good texture, packing flavorful bites Snowpeas - can't go wrong! my go-to Chinese green dish $12.95 BBQ Pork / Duck - Canto style cuts of meat - the Pork is a little bit thicker sliced than the area restaurants, a bit more earthy tones and a nice fragrance overall. The duck was fine - salty/saucey Tips/Takeaways: -A quieter Chinese restaurant with a cleaner atmosphere just outside the major hustle/bustle of Chinatown -Would recommend return: I would re-order the snowpeas, BBQ pork, and definitely recommend the salt baked squid -Not a huge fan of the jiajiangmian and feng guo

Yelp
UBER EATS REVIEW: i had such a craving for mapo tofu on a cold night i decided to place a delivery here since i had a good dine in review! i was so disappointed... the mapo tofu was like an orange color, nowhere near the vibrant red and spice that i wanted. the tofu wasnt't even the soft kind that's usually used, it was hard and not what i wanted at all. no flavor, didn't taste good. i was so disappointed. spicy schezuan chicken was also disappointing. the chicken pieces were so tiny and not crispy at all. i put them in my air fryer hoping to get it crispy which it did but it also shrunk down the size of them even more shrimp crispy pan noodles was OK. needed more flavor and seasoning. all in all, this was such a disappointing order i wanted a refund so badly but nothing was missing but deliciousness.

Yelp
Best Chinese Food in entire city. Tremendous variation Every order cooked from scratch 40 years old Cleanest kitchen you could imagine

Yelp
Pretty Americanized and didn't see any other Asian patrons there besides us, but happy with the meal overall. Deducted one star because the meal was a bit oily and I asked for pork belly specifically in Chinese (I didn't read it on the menu but asked if they had it, to which they said yes), but they gave me another pork dish instead.

Yelp
The Salt Baked Squid And Shrimp is the saltiest meal I've ever had in my whole life. I love me some salt, but this was hard to eat. Only order if you have a gallon of water to chug with it. 24 hours later and my face is puffy from the salt :(
google avatar

Yelp
It has been a few years since I had been to Lee How Fook. It is still as great as it always was. Hot & sour soup is great. The salt-baked squid makes it worth the trip into the city.

Yelp
This is literally a hole in the wall and it is so worth a visit!! The food is about as fresh and authentic as you get in Chinatown and the service is fast. The menu is overwhelming with the number of options, but you really can't go wrong with anything here. The atmosphere is great. It's a small place, so it feels intimate and like you are in your grandma's kitchen. The crab rangoon appetizer was delicious! It was made differently than any other place I have been to, but it was obvious that it was freshly homemade. I got the crispy, fried noodles and I was not disappointed - flavorful and also fresh. The only thing I would advise is to go earlier in the evening before the main dinner rush, because as the night went on it got fuller and fuller.

Kenneth B.

Yelp
Great food, Great portions, clean place, bring your own wine or coolers, good prices, good service

Yelp
We have ordered from Lee How Fook several times. This last order was very disappointing. The hot and sour soup was mediocre (hot but not sour and devoid of vegetables) the chicken with black bean sauce was tough and tasteless. The Pad Thai was salty and flavorless and even the rice was a sticky mess. It was a very sad meal.

Yelp
I had food here and it seem pretty tasty . Several days later I again ordered . The restaurant completely delivered the wrong order . I phoned and they were Very Rude. The blamed all on us and would not come to a any assistance or compromise. I spent over 90.00 and I threw all of the food out. The woman talked over me. I simply wanted to have something replaced in a reasonable way. She just kept yelling and would not listen to anything. This was take out so possibly this dies not happen eating in. I will never go to this restaurant. There are many mixed reviews and people not coming back. I have spoken to the people who recommended the place and similar situation occurred with them. Do No Order from this place. Horrible!!!!

Yelp
Visited based on reviews. It's located away from the main streets of Chinatown. We were the only indoor diners during Saturday lunch time. Food was prepared fresh for us and was pretty good. We had soup dumplings, Rangoon, pan fried dumplings, Chinese veggies, clams w black bean sauce, pan fried noodles and whole duck. The pan fried dumplings I would pass on next time, I thought they were steamed and fried just on the bottom but they were deep fried. The duck was very good, crispy skin and juicy. The buns were perfectly steamed that accompanied it. The service is very good and I would recommend!

Yelp
Worst. Service. Ever. We got sat in the other section of the restaurant (in the back) and holy moly; words cannot describe the feeling I had from sitting there for 30 minutes before a person decided to show up. The service that we originally had came once and I picked up in the fact that she wouldn't again come back if we didn't order when and if she came. When she did come, we told her without hesitation that we were going to order. She said "I forgot my pen". Turned around never to be seen again... Wut. We had to wait again for 15 minutes before seeing another person whom finally took our order. On the word of my friend who said the food was descent, I was willing to give the food a chance. Bad choice. Food was really bland, small quantity, and terribly seasoned on some. Literally didn't have a good thing coming out of this restaurant. I love Chinatown and I've been there countless times. I was wondering why I never heard of this place... I guess I know why. Never going back; I usually give a place two visits before reviewing but oh my goodness... I'm scarred. I highly DO NOT recommend this place.

Yelp
So good. Unassuming environment. Nothing fancy. But!!! The food. My son said it was the best Chinese food he ever had. And I agreed. They just crush it. It's excellent.

Yelp
One of my biggest quarantine cravings has been Hong Kong-style Cantonese food. While there's plenty of Cantonese joints in Chinatown, not many are open and have delivery during these 'Rona times. Fortunately I came across Lee How Fook on DoorDash. I placed an order of Beef Chow Fun and Pan Fried Noodles with Pork. The order arrived way ahead of schedule and the food was deeeelectable. They have a pretty extensive menu so I'm looking forward to ordering more from them whenever the cravings return and if I know myself enough, they'll be back by the weekend.

Yelp
I go here a lot. This long review was a long time coming. Let's start with the appetizers. 1. salt baked squid: Lee How Fook is back on top with the #1 best tasting salt baked squid in Philly. There was a moment earlier this year that I thought they lost it, but it may have just been a bad day for the cook. Last night, they cooked it perfectly. It's not listed as an appetizer, but we always order it as one. 2. pork soup dumplings: The have pork soup dumplings now - recently added to the menu. When my partner and I saw it, we knew we needed to try theirs out. The meat part was good and I appreciated that the breading was thin, but they definitely need to ass more soup to it. I feel like I barely had any soup and it was just another regular dumpling. From the little sip of soup that was there, it tasted pretty good. I hope they update it since they are trying new things. 3. shumai (Cantonese): The shumai is always good here. They did update the recipe earlier this year and it tasted like they added mushrooms to it. No complaints here, it still tastes great. 4. BBQ roast pork: The one thing I tried in the past that I really didn't like was the BBQ roast pork. It was suuuuper dry and not very tasty. 5. crispy shrimp roll: Tried the crispy shrimp roll - newly added earlier this year. It is good, but it is a lot of breading. It makes sense for the recipe, so I think it might just be me and my partner who don't like a lot of breading. 6. lettuce wrap chicken: Honestly, if you want a healthy option with no carbs, this is it. It's nothing special, but it tastes good and it's the healthiest you'll get. They give you quite a lot so sometimes I actually just order this to-go for my lunch. 7. You can't go wrong with any of the steamed dumplings - chicken, pork, vegetable, or shrimp. These dumplings were a staple in my home. Don't forget to add the dumpling sauce (it's labeled "special sauce" on the table if you eat there). Overall Favorite Appetizers: Shumai Salt baked squid ****** Main dishes: 1. bean curd with sweet and spicy garlic sauce: Overall, this tastes very good. I love that the bean curd is crispier and not just soft jello in this dish (a personal preference). The sauce has a hint of pineapple to it that I love. I don't get this all the time though because I tend to like things with a more subtle amount of sauce since I don't tend to eat rice and can't wipe some of the sauce away on the rice. 2. general tso's bean curd: This dish is too ridiculously drenched in sauce. Even if you are eating it with rice. And the bean curd breading just turns to jello with all the sauce. I'm not a fan of this dish. I know these dishes aren't going to be healthy for you, but this makes me feel like I'm making my body endure a lot for nothing. 3. Chinese crispy fried chicken: It's exactly how my grandma used to make it with a hint of lemon. Might be the nostalgia, but I can't say anything else about it. 4. peking duck bao buns: I don't usually like duck, but in their bao bun dish with the sauce, it's good. I recommend this dish for those who don't like to eat large portions of duck. 5. jumbo shrimp with walnuts: This is so bad for you with the mayonnaise and breading, but it tastes so good. This is something you order during a "treat yourself" type of night. 6. vegetable dishes: The only ones I ever really care about are Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, sautéed baby bok choy, and sautéed eggplant. You can't go wrong with any of those. These vegetables were also a staple in my home. 7. seafood hotpot with bean curd: This is a great dish to share. There's no noodles, it's just straight up soup and seafood (scallops, shrimp, crawfish, squid) with some bean curd. You definitely want to pair it with more subtle or sweeter tasting dishes because it is pretty salty after eating it for awhile. 8. shrimp fried rice: It's exactly the name. And it's just good. 9. pan fried noodles with mixed seafood and roast pork: Also exactly the name. Also just so good. For those who don't know, "pan fried" is the crispier noodle, but still doused in sauce. Overall Favorite Dishes: Shrimp fried rice Pan fried noodles with mixed seafood and roast pork Seafood hotpot with bean curd ****** It's so fun coming here and eating family style with friends and family. But it's also just as good of a date night. BYOB. Big groups: yes, you can make reservations online and, I believe, over the phone. There is even a party room in the back that you can reserve. They also do catering, listed online. Why do I go here so much? 1. I live in the area. 2. It's been my partner's favorite restaurant in Chinatown since he was a kid.

Yelp
Decent Chinese food at a reasonable price. BYOB Definitely not the best Chinese food I've had in Philadelphia but it's a close second. They have a very large menu selection with a variety of different Chinese cuisines. Cantonese/Pekingese/Sze Chuan...etc. The restaurant itself is very small, however we didn't have to wait to be sat. Service was great, food was made quickly and tasted great. I like that they offered a variety of types of noodles for the noodle dishes (helps those of us who are gluten free). The portions are also huge! We had plenty of left overs to take home. Great place to go with friends without breaking the bank.
