The Best Restaurants in Seattle’s University District | Eater Seattle

"Lee’s Kitchen opened in the former Miss Mike Noodle space in mid-2024, serving a similar (if not quite as extensive) menu of both Taiwanese and southern Chinese dishes. Fried chicken devotees can find textbook yan su ji (often Anglicized as “popcorn chicken”), but there are a number of other plates that are hard to find in Seattle outside of the CID, including an abundant selection of steamed rice noodle rolls, Nanning noodle soups, and pretty much every pig part you can think of. Speaking of abundant, so are the portions, though even humble-sounding dishes hit with nuance: For instance, the minced pork with rice is brightened with verdant Chinese broccoli and pickled mustard greens and the black pepper stir-fried beef noodle is aromatic with five-spice. Pro tip: Don’t miss the self-serve soup to the right of the condiments bar, it comes with every order." - Mark DeJoy

Google
Food portions are good, Pork belly is super tender, dumpling flavor excellent like the best brand at the store lol. Wish noodles were thicker and had more flavor desperately needed soy sauce that the chinese restaurant didn’t have lol. Wish they gave me more broccoli tho because it’s so cheap and adds much to meals. Their thai tea is very sweet

Google
Popcorn chicken supposed to be salty and spicy. They made it taste so bad!!! It tasted like they put a bunch of sugar in it. It doesn't taste like any Taiwanese style popcorn chicken I have had before. I wasted $10.99 and just threw that away. The spicy powder is bitter. I also ordered the mala pork feet rice noodle to go. When I got home, I found out there is no pork feet, only 2 pieces of fish balls in it, soup no flavor and not spicy. This place is horrible. I tried to call them and see if I can get a refund. No answer!!!

I don’t usually leave reviews, but my experience at this Chinese restaurant truly stood out. From the moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted and seated quickly. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, with just the right blend of traditional decor and a relaxed atmosphere. The food was the real highlight. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor—especially the popcorn chicken, which had the perfect balance of spice and depth. The dumplings were delicate yet packed with flavor, and the hand-pulled noodles had that perfect chewy texture you just can’t fake. You can really tell the chefs here care about what they’re making. Service was attentive but not overbearing. The staff checked in at just the right times and were more than happy to offer suggestions or accommodate small requests. Prices were reasonable, especially given the quality and portion sizes

Google
Love this place—food is authentic and rice rolls are delicious. However, I ordered the pork and preserved egg rice rolls and they forgot the pork LOL. It was already too late to go back so I just dealt with it and ate my plain egg rice rolls 🙁 Also I could tell that the rice rolls themselves were not as fresh as usual because of how broken and brittle they were. Would recommend double checking your takeout order before leaving…

Google
I ordered the “lees house special shrimp woton soup” and the “braised pork ribs rice roll”. The rice roll is pretty good, the rice roll skin is thin which is good. However, the pork ribs are a little over salty and the shrimp wonton is a little not what I expected. General rating is a 4 out of 5.

Google
The restaurant owner has the warmest heart!! He always has smiles on his face that made our day. He also gave us double-sized braised pork when he forgot to add it in my noodles. He’s so friendly and the food is authentic!😤 Plus the portion is crazily huge, I eat what a normal 20-year-old guy would, and I couldn’t finish it. Definitely recommend, 10/10 place

Google
I don't remember how many times I've ordered takeout from here, but this is my first time dining in. I really enjoyed the wonton soup! The prices are good, the staff is friendly, and they even offer free crispy snacks, soup, and homemade pickles. 😍

Google
Very comforting, quiet atmosphere. Portions are huge! Ordered the braised pork belly rice noodles, and it was delicious. Very flavorful.

Yelp
The environment is good, and I think overall the food is delicious. I am pleasure to enjoy these foods.

Yelp
My go to place when I'm craving comfort mom and pop Chinese food. Highly recommend their specialty noodle soups (pork tomato broth with small hint of pickled umami flavor). Fried chicken and stone pot is also popular here. Come here for the food, no frills, sweet hard working small business owners. college budget friendly!

Yelp
Well Miss Mike Bento didn't last long, but it does seem as of Lee's inherited their menu and then built on top of it. It would appear to me that Lee's Kitchen is trying to be the Cheung Fun capital of Seattle in their humble little corner unit. I got a noodle bowl and a mixed beef-pork-shrimp cheung fun and there's plenty more on the menu to sample. Utensils and soup and crunchies and chili crunch and peanuts and takeout paraphenelia are all self serve. Ordering is done via QR code and the mom and pop in the kitchen are fast at work to deliver!

Yelp
No real service with self seating with QR codes on tables for ordering, self serve sides (peanuts, fried crispies, soup, and pickled veggies), and self serve utensils/cups - if you care about sanitation a lot, it may not be for you (they do keep it clean though!) the food took a while to come out (~20 min) but was super delicious! as another location for their original Bellevue location, it's slightly smaller but the food is the same (just with chicken wings to appeal to a college demographic?) highly recommend their clay pot rice, rice noodles with meat, and congee!

Yang V.

Yelp
Very good food and service! We tried the 猪杂老友粉 and 煲仔饭. Highly recommended! There's also free soup and small dishes

Yelp
Popcorn chicken is delicious and a great value. The pieces are crispy, well-seasoned, and satisfying. The portion sizes are generous for the price, making it a great snack or meal. The restaurant has a clean, welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a quick bite or casual dining. Service is friendly and efficient, with staff ensuring orders are accurate and timely. Whether dining in or taking out, the experience is consistently enjoyable. If you're craving flavorful, bite-sized chicken, this place is definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Such nostalgic tasting food from Taiwan. The popcorn chicken was crispy and well seasoned, and everything else tasted so homey. Would come back here if craving taiwanese cuisine. Service was quick and efficient!

Yelp
Exceptional flavors, stunning presentation, and top-tier service make five-star food truly unforgettable.

Yelp
Like the food and the reasonable price. A good choice for lunch! The restaurant is busy.

Yelp
Easy online ordering app, free pickled veggies and peanuts and soup. Menu looks pretty extensive and prices fairly reasonable as well.

Yelp
Very delicious. Quick and fast service especially for students. The beef brisket rice roll is amazing and a must get when coming here

Yelp
Authentic Chinese food. It is so good and I do like the 卤肉饭. The price is also reasonable.

Yelp
Food is delicious but service and organization is terrible. We ordered popcorn chicken, congee, and braised pork dish and it took 40 minutes to be ready. We waited the whole time standing in a small area while many people who came after us got their food. They also cooked parts of our order at different times so the chicken was cold and the congee was very hot. Completely recommend the food but if you are looking for a quick bite this is not your place. Also good to mention we order to go and the people dining in seemed to get their food much faster :)

Sarah N.

Yelp
I was wildly underwhelmed with my meal here considering all the outstanding reviews. I got the braised pork ribs with noodles and it was not worth getting, especially for $15. I can make a much better version at home for $7. The flavor was lacking, it tasted very flat and one dimensional like it was just soy sauce and sugar. There also wasn't enough sauce in the dish so most of my bites of noodle tasted like plain unflavored noodle.

Yelp
Really bad service. I took my family there and it seems they were really busy with take out orders. Lots of tables that were previously occupied still had to be cleaned so I asked the person manning the front register if he could clean one of the tables for me. He said no since he was too busy. I ended up busing the table myself and moved the dirty plates and utensils to another table. I then asked the host if he can wipe the table clean. Once again he said "no", so I wiped the table with a wet paper towel. 45 minutes after I ordered using the online menu, the food still has not arrived. At that point my family and I just got up and left.

Mia G.

Yelp
This is my first time in Seattle and this restaurant was amazing. You are provided with cold water and a pitcher at each table, soup, and side dishes such as peanuts, pickled vegetables, and more. The portion sizes are huge for the great prices. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who is nearby. I will 100% come back here again the next time I am in Seattle.

Bww S.

Yelp
The portions are HUGE; one dish enough for two so it end up only $10-$15 per person, free pickled veggies & soup, friendly service, can't complain.

Jonny R.

Yelp
New to the neighborhood so I thought I would try. The food was fantastic and the popcorn chicken was killer! Big portions and friendly staff. Will be back!
