Impressive selection of Alden, Edward Green etc. Small, but very nice section of pre-owned (bought a pair of beautiful Crockett & Jones cordovan for 1/10 of original price!). Cool sports coats ++ from PML. Owner Steven Taffel always gives personal, friendly assistance with whatever you need.

I had a wonderful experience yesterday. This store is really something special. I went in to check out some boots as I've been unhappy with my current pair (not bought at Leffot) for a few years. The over Steven is super helpful and is great to talk to. We chatted for awhile about the brands he carries, his history in the industry and with the store. Everything was very low pressure and comfortable. I ended up leaving with a pair of boots. I'll definitely be back and would highly recommend.

I've been frequenting this store for 12+ years and have never been disappointed with the selection or personalized service. This place was sick. Vast collection of incredible brands and if you are a collector of high end brands with integrity and quality , this will do. The owner is a nice guy and a knowledgeable one. I can tell he and I can have a convo about shoes and how they are made for hours .

Great, personal small business in NYC. Steven the owner has been excellent to work with. I recently purchased my 3rd pair from him. The website is excellent, and the photography of each shoe speaks for itself. When it comes to suggestions about things to wear with each shoe, they are very helpful. Customer service is excellent, and when dealing with limited production shoes, that are made outside of the country thats not easy as they don't always control when things get through customs.. . Great shop, will continue to purchase through them and think the new pre-owned section and option is a brilliant idea. Creates a new market place for buyers and sellers of fine footwear. Keep up the great work!

Hands down, the best shoe store in the city. An amazing selection of Alden, Edward Green, Church. You can do made to order, though it takes awhile and is not cheap. Expect the owner to personally help you choose the right fit and tell you all about the last used for each shoe. There is no reason to buy shoes anywhere else.

Some nice shoes but very medicore and weird customer service. You will not hear back from them for some time for any issue. I've found just buying from the actual shoe manufacture is a much better experience.

This is a wonderful shop with a very knowledgeable proprietor who is very helpful. I needed a belt to match my Alden color-8 shell cordovan shoes and he had just the thing. He helped me find exactly the right size and I have worn it every day since I bought it. Before this, it was hit and miss for me online. Sometimes the belt is too, big, sometimes too wide, sometimes not the right color...so by the time I find one belt and add up the cost of returns it just makes no sense to buy online. There are things that you MUST buy at a good retail store with advise from someone who knows the product lines. If people do not patronize stores like this, we will be left with big box chains and that would be a tragedy. And make no mistake, for certain things like shoes a big box retail store is an online experience in disguise. You are missing out if you don't stop in and shop in this store for shoes, especially for good quality shoes.

I have patronized this store a number of times because they have interesting shoes and other accessories. I have purchased everything from a Rolex watch to multiple pairs of Alden shoes and other shoes at Leffot. Although I always felt they had a cold demeanor, I continued to shop there because of the product. Their attitude is aloof and off putting in general, but as a seasoned shopper who knows what they want I really didn't care that much initially and never had to ask for something above and beyond what they had in stock. Some stores don't care about their customers that much and this is one of them. However I will never shop with these people again and here's why. I pre-ordered a pair of Alden shoes from an email they sent back in August 2015. Upon confirmation of the order they said the shoes were expected to arrive in four to six months. After almost months, in December 2015, I asked where the shoes were. I was told that they would arrive by the end of February. Then I heard nothing for 4 more months. At the beginning of May, I had my assistant call and ask after the status of the shoes because it had been so long I almost forgot about them. Not once did anyone from Leffot ever reach out to provide any update on the status of the order, even though it had been nearly double the amount of time since the pre-order had been made. As anyone who runs a business should know, if you are selling something to a customer who is willing to wait to get it, they are worth being valued and cared for. When asked if they at Leffot would be willing to offer some kind of discount to compensate for the huge amount of time that had elapsed since the shoes were ordered, Leffot declined. I called the owner Steven to follow up to see if perhaps this the response of an assistant or someone junior in the organization, I found that in reality it was coming from the owner himself. He said there was "nothing more he could do" and that it was Alden's problem for delaying production. If it were me and I was trying to retain a customer, I would do my best to make some kind of peace offering if I were clearly inconveniencing the customer, as Leffot did. Not these people...they simply just don't care. Nothing they could do is the response of someone who does not have the customer in mind. Avoid this place. Spend your money somewhere where they might actually go out of their way to offer some good service as well as good product.

I've ordered a pair of shell cordovan Aldens from here once and had no issues with the ordering process or delivery. That said, I have not physically been into the store location since they are located 2,900 miles away. I did have an email go unanswered once a few years back, but I think they are better with their customer service now. I would probably order from here again and/or visit the store when in the area without hesitation.

This is one of the best, if not THE best, high-end shoe stores in New York City... and in the nation, for that matter. There's an ever-changing assortment of shoes from the likes of Edward Green, Alden, John Lobb, St. Crispin, Gaziano & Girling,..., featuring some of the iconic models as well as some interesting makeups. There is no pressure to buy, only a very helpful education on whatever products you may find of interest. It was a great place to help me transition to a higher level of shoe than I had been previously wearing. The proprietor, Steven, always makes time to interact with us and make us feel like valued customers - whether in person or on the phone or via email. As an interesting data point: we were recently visiting the city and the managers of three separate businesses - two high-end haberdashers and one high-end shoe store - each referred to Leffot as "the best shoe store in town." Recently, Leffot has added pre-owned shoes. They also carry vintage watches. The store has gone from exceptionally good to even better.

This is a expertly appointed store with an impeccable selection of top-notch shoes, marred by a pair of sales associates who consistently go out of their way to make you feel unwelcome and unworthy of their time. First, the good. If you are looking for a pair of ultra high-end shoes from the likes of John Lobb, Church's, St. Crispin, Edward Green, etc., this is your shoe Mecca (and even if you're not, a trip in here might convince you that investing in one of these museum-quality pairs of footwear is worth the cost). Their most affordable line is Alden and starts around $500. Other shoes sell for north of $2,000. But, if you are interested in investing in a pair of shoes you'll wear until your funeral, this beautifully curated store is where you'll find them. Now onto the bad: their smug employees. I have been into this store 3 times, and it's the same story each visit. On each occasion, I am: 1. Not greeted, despite being one of (at most) three customers in their small store; 2. Made to feel uncomfortable asking basic questions; 3. Avoided at all cost like I am a homeless man who came in to ask if they had a bathroom. I just don't get it. One time the two sales associate (one older guy, one twentysomething, both just as holier-than-thou) were sitting there having a drink with another customer (who, interestingly, didn't buy a damn thing) and I had to literally walk up to them, interrupt their merry little conversation, and ask if they had a model in my size. All this so I can drop $1,000 on shoes? I always try to support small businesses as much as I can, but ordering these shoes from the Saks website would have been an infinitely more pleasant interaction.

What I like most about this shop is the fact that the shoes are by true shoemakers, not your typical overpriced fashion footwear. The difference is huge; a lot of the brands sold here have been around for decades, and if not they are made using time honored shoemaking techniques. These are the shoes that will last you a lifetime and will never be out of "style". Steven, the owner is a really cool guy who knows everything there is to know about quality shoes, and leathers. You can get made-to-order shoes from almost all of the brands that he carries and all of the care accessories and info you could possibly need. The aesthetics of the shop designed by Steven's wife makes for a perfect environment as well: no clutter, limited selection of classic lasts, and homey. Not your typical awkward boutique feeling, where you are being judged and stared at the whole time. Steven also hosts many trunk shows and art exhibits as well. They make for a shoe buying experience really unique and personal. The accessories the shop carry are also very complimentary to their shoes that anybody with good taste can appreciate such as cuff links, polishing kits and seats, hats, socks, scarves, poker chip sets and shell cordovan watch bands and wallets in all of Horween's classic colors. This store is the perfect shop for men who love shoes and are sick of the poor options downtown.

It's a shoe Mecca, but I have mixed feelings about Leffot. I've bought three pairs there. All of them are ill-fitting: too large; lasts that don't fit my girth. This is something an expert sales person should have spotted. Secondly, the owner sold me a pair at full price the afternoon before his annual sales day. Since I was a regular at the time, a heads-up would have been much appreciated. And finally, one time the owner was having a drink -- during business hours -- with another customer without hardly acknowledging my prescence (it was just me and them in the store). I found this very odd.

Absolutely beautiful store - black walls with a semi-gloss forest applique set the tone for the rest of the space... simple white slip-covered chairs dotted the walls with floor mirrors subtly placed to observe tried on merchandise. Shoe were laid out carefully by designer and style on a long wooden table, lit by an elaborate modern chandelier. No decoration or furniture piece was superfluous, each piece added to the flow and feel of the place. The manager or owner was mild mannered, friendly and very knowledgeable about his brands and others. A great selection of Aldens and Wolverines. He told us that they have designer trunk shoes often - a great way to meet the shoe designers and see new merchandise. A must see. I wish they sold women's shoes!!!

One of the best fine shoe stores I've been to in New York and I've been to a lot of them! Amazing selection of the best of the best brands in men's shoe wear: John Lobb, Edward Green, Gaziano & Girling, Alden, Aubercy and more! They even offer a made-to-order program so you can customize your shoe by color, leather, type of sole, etc . I was helped by Steven. Super helpful and knowledgeable. He knew more about John Lobb then the salesperson at John Libb did! Plus, they have a dope whiskey collection with Angel's Envy, Oban, and even the mythical Pappy Van Winkle! If you're nice enough they might even let you sample some! I'll definitely be spending more time and more dough here.

Still the same quality service, still the same quality stock list. A very unique type of shoe store in New York, which is pretty sad since it is NYC. Its very welcoming to everybody even to regular working guys like myself and rich jack-***. New additions include, John Lobb and Saint Crispins. Of course they still have your special make-up Alden's and Viberg.

Got my second pair of Edward Green from Leffot, the best high end men's shoe store in Manhattan. Steven is friendly, the ambiance is classy and high end. I was introduced to Edward Green here and it's a different level of look and comfort compared to Prada, Ferragamo etc.

As other reviewers have said, this is hands-down the best men's shoe store in New York. The owners and the staff are knowledgeable, patient, and friendly. Their selection is second to none, and they offer both in-stock and MTO styles. It's a high-end experience from start to finish.

Perhaps the best men's shoe store in the world. The selection of models from the best of the best all in one room. All the big boys are here St.Crispin, Lobb, Edward Green, Alden, Viberg, Corthay etc. If you want they have it and if they don't you can have it made to order. Service at times can be a bit hot and cold but I guess when you are the best in the world you can get away with it. I forgot to mention vintage watches and amazing hats.

This is a nice shoe shop. Very nice selection of shoes from the US and Europe and the employees there are helpful. However, be prepared to make a mortgage payment for them.

"Not really worth your while." I came to Leffot to spend upwards of $700 on a pair of shoes. I entered the store as the sole customer. Here was my experience. 1. No greeting. 2. No eye contact. 3. Employee #1 turns his back toward me like a scene out of Mean Girls, then vanishes. 4. Employee #2 hides behind a large monitor and types, though it is painfully clear a customer has entered the store, walked the full length of the store, etc. 5. Employee #3 waits 10 minutes for her entrance from the back staff area, sees me, or at least glances in the general direction -- and has no reaction. 6. When I ask #3 for assistance, she speaks not one word, moves not one inch -- just stands there. 7. I think, "Are you f!cking kidding me?" So I walk the entire football field length of the store to where she is standing. To greet her in the location where she feels most comfortable. The very back of the store. 8. Our conversation is stilted, impersonal, aloof, and totally useless. 9. I have wide feet so I'm hoping in a place of this ... caliber, they can help me out. I see they have a foot measuring thingy so I ask for my feet to be measured. I place my socked foot on the device. Lots of moving around the slide-y thing. But she does not know how to use it. She hopes maybe I do. Please re-read that last sentence. 10. She requests help from employee #2. He swans around from the monitor. Says he doesn't know how to use it either. Oh well. 11. I try on some shoes - too tight, I need wider. I guess having the right measurement would help. 12. No one seems to notice I'm unable to squash my Flintstone foot into the shoes. I have to wake them out of torpor and ask for wider. 13. Employee #2 pauses to examine his own slender feet. He says they don't carry wide shoes. Why? "It's not really worth our while." * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * It's not really worth our while. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 14. Employee #1 recommends going to Alden on Madison. 15. I go immediately to Alden, get phenomenal, attentive service, accurate foot measurement, and a mortgage payment later -- two beautiful pairs of shoes. Even better - an unsolicited discount (?!) for "waiting too long" -- which I hadn't. Let's review. Leffot had: * Terrible service * Let me repeat: the worst service I've ever had in a shoe store, ever * No customers * A cash register full of nothing End of review.

While I love my MTO Alfred Sargent Bensons and they are wonderful shoes when I custom ordered them they were supposed to send an extra pair of buckles with them. After three attempts to get Leffot to get these taken care of, I have up. If you are looking for a nice pair of shoes "off the rack" they have a great selection of them available, if you are doing anything "special order" I would suggest you look elsewhere. They not once followed through with a time based commitment, called/emailed when they said they would, or did any form of follow up as schedules changed.

I agree with some of the other posters RE: service. I went there, one guy was working and he was a total jerk. They had a decent selection of rare shoes to check out, but good luck getting someone to help you. It's a beautiful, if small store, but to me service is where it's at. I had the money burning a hole in my pocket and these idiots lost a sale because, after a while, I got really sick of trying to pry info on their Edward Green MTO program out of the clerk. Keep in mind that I'm not a fussy customer - I don't need the Louis of Boston treatment. I just expect a store's employees to not act like I'm bothering them by walking in the door. Sadly, I'll probably give them another try (I love Corthay shoes, and they're hard to find); hopefully, I'll have a better experience. The two stars are for the selection - if they didn't have amazing shoes in there, I'd have given them a zero. Leffot: Get over yourself.

Had a great selection of the shoe I was looking for (1000 Mile boot from Wolverine). The owner and his employee were very helpful and knowledgeable about their products. They were helpful with my indecisiveness about what color shoe to get and tolerated my interest in seeing multiple pairs of the same shoes.

Had a great experience at Leffot. I was assisted by Che, who was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer all my questions. I walked out with a pair of G&G Sinatra's and couldn't be happier with my purchase. Highly recommended if your in the market for a pair of G&G or EG shoes.

wow...If your into shoes this IS the place, walked in with my dog, walked out with my dog and 3 pairs of shoes( oh and a pair of socks) CHEAP...no, but I will have a hard time deciding whick apir I will be buried in.....I stop in everytime in NYC about every 6 weeks or so....also great week site blog....Jake out!

Great, highly curated selection and a very chill place to shop. Steven was cool, not pressuring and honest in his opinion about the boots he was selling. Definitely will be back when I need another pair of classy, versatile shoes.

They have socks, watch straps, belts, and hats. They hold trunk shows where you meet the Manufacturer's representative. You can order shoes to your taste with the color and leather grain of your choosing.

I came in knowing I wanted some Alden shoes and that they are the lowest end shoes Leffot carries. No attempt to up-sell or any pressure to buy anything at all. Great experience and the sales person seemed really into shoes. My only gripe is the sales associate put my foot in the metal foot measurer. Those never work. Luckily, he knew enough about how the models fit to disregard the foot measurer. Highly recommended.

Excellent, friendly service highlights this special store in the West Village. The non-pretentious attitude makes the shopping experience a very easy-going affair. Leffot has a terrific selection of hard to find mens shoes. The MTO programs are highly recommended, especially when they host the trunk shows, where you get to meet the people behind the shoes.

Leffot is by far THE BEST shoe store in New York. Possibly in the states - hands down. My husband purchases all of his shoes and they are always tasteful, the quality second to none! The great thing about this store is that it is purely a man's shoe paradise and the location is absolutely unassuming.

Visiting from San Francisco I found this store to have a small but marvelous collection of men's shoes, and bought a pair, with which I have been quite happy. I neglected to buy the shoe trees specifically made for the shoes, however, so when I got home I phoned and left a voice mail asking how I might do so. A week or so later I left a similar voice mail. No one ever returned either call. Why, I wonder? Product: 5 stars. Service? uh-unh.

I made a point to find and visit the store based on the magazine reviews. While I think it has a nicely edited selection of high quality shoes, the service seriously lacked the image and product it was selling. Despite having 3 people of the floor and only 1 other customer in the store it was impossible to engage a salesperson in a meaningful conversation to understand how to get fitted. Since I could not get attention, I bought an $75.00 accessory I needed and got a very aloof response to the point of rude. I cannot recommend this store, and would rather stay with Hermes and John Lobb shoes or go directly to Churchs or Alden. VERY disappointed!!!

After reading a few of the negative reviews, I am compelled to write to explain my impressions of Steven and Leffot. Most of the complaints seem to focus on the staff not recognizing or welcoming buyers. One thing I like about Leffot is that there is zero sales pressure. Buyers are free to browse around without being bothered, until you request assistance, which is always forthcoming. I have been shopping at Leffot for years, and have recommended the store to friends, who all feel like customers are treated as members of the family - although clearly a low pressure type of family. A number of other complaints focused on waiting a long time for custom orders - that is just the way things work in the made to order shoe world - not Leffot's fault and certainly not a reason that Leffot should provide a discount to an impatient customer. Overall, I find the people at Leffot to be reasonable, extremely knowledgeable, responsive and fair. It is true that buying shoes at Leffot is a low pressure experience, but that works for me.

This a lovely store, laid out like small jewel...all the shoes on one table. This is unique approach and makes the stock very straightforward to take in. When I visited it was a beautiful weekend day morning and I was the only customer for my entire visit, and did not get any of the poor service commented upon here. Is this "the best" men's shoes store in NYC? Well it is pretty good, but let's face in NYC there are many others, so the choice is pretty good. As regards service, I think the Dr Martens store on Union Sq is just as good - I mean this in a good way. Both are excellent. As regards knowledge, one guy in Gucci SoHo I spoke to clearly knew his stuff, so this is hit or miss. John Lobb staff will be quite variable. If you want real service you need to meet the made to measure chaps from Paris. There is an Alden shop in NYC that obvious carries a bigger range. Saks has an amazing selection of men's shoes, including Corthay. Barneys remains one stop shopping. Still Leffot is pretty good and worth a visit. But I will not go back as I find their stock too limited.

Leffot is overrall the best men's shoe store I've ever been to. Tasteful, classic, wonderful brands, and a great selection of styles. I live in San Francisco so I now order over the phone and they are very helpful and accomodating. Making the step to shoes in the over 500 range is a huge step, but I promise you it is the best investment in your wardrobe. I constantly get compliments on the shoes I've gotten from Leffot. Far more recognition than if I spent that money on another aspect of my wardrobe--besides, shoes last so long, you never change size, and can remain in style for decades.

Excellent high end men's shoe store. The service is great and Steven or his assistants will answer all of your questions. I have purchase a few pairs of Alden shoes from Leffot as well as some Sapphir shoe care supplies. Feel free to just stop buy and browse the beautiful layout of the store.
