14 Buzzy Coffee Cocktails Around San Francisco and the East Bay

"The newest outpost of the successful French-leaning restaurant group offers an interesting spin on a negroni by adding cask coffee to it. The bitterness of the Campari plays well with the richness of Mr. Black coffee liquor, while amaretto and vermouth smooth the flavor out." - Flora Tsapovsky, Eater Staff

20 Excellent and Child-Friendly Restaurants in the East Bay

"This newcomer to Jack London Square, part of a mini-chain through the South and North bays, hit the ground running with a sprawling space that feels quintessentially French. The airy all-day restaurant has a right-sized all-day menu to match, including an ample selection of wine by the glass or bottle, beer, and house takes on familiar cocktails. Kids are not afterthoughts; they get specially designed, colorable menus (and crayons) with inviting riffs on French classics. The croque monsieur “Americain” comes with a cup of tomato soup, mac and cheese features a cheddar-Bechamel sauce, and there’s grilled salmon with fresh vegetables for those young pescatarians. Playspace bonus: let the kiddos burn energy in the quad out front by marveling at the fountain or climbing the wolf statue that honors the square’s namesake." - Laura Smith Borrman

Where to Eat and Drink Near Jack London Square

"Chef Roland Passot brings the latest outpost of his Left Bank Brasserie mini-chain to Jack London Square, with some new dishes to set apart this waterfront location. For the seafood-inclined, there’s the Petite Plateau with a selection of raw and prepared seafood items; there’s even a fried chicken option that’s special to this location, an ode to Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken in New York." - Dianne de Guzman, Caleb Pershan

Food and service were great. Came for our anniversary and really enjoyed things. The tartare was delicious and had a nice kick to it. I love French onion soup and there's was good but I could have used a bit more salt. Great cheese/onion volume though! The pork chop was perfect. I don't eat them often but this might be the best I ever had. If I had one complaint it's the door to the outdoor dining. It's quite heavy and slams aggressively and loudly. Not an issue on the other side of the restaurant but if you're close to it it's impossible to not notice every 2-3 minutes. Some staff were mindful and closed it softly, most didn't. Would be awesome if that had a slow closing mechanism. Overall really enjoyed everything and Alejandro was a fantastic server.

Google
This location of Left Bank is pretty much like the others, The food is great, the service is smooth, professional and friendly. And the prices are about what you would expect for the area. The French onion soup is delicious, definitely order the bread, it is very good, and we'd love the warm olives. The sliders were surprisingly tasty. And the cocktails were lovely.

My first time visiting Jack London Square. We walked around and decided to have dinner here. The atmosphere was amazing. We were seated out in the patio, there was a live band playing on the board walk/walk way, amazing music. The evening was very chill and enjoyable.

This is the second Thanksgiving that I have eaten at this restaurant. Their menu is simple and elegant. All the food was extremely tasty at the right temperature, and there was very prompt service. Highly recommended!

Google
Great restaurant, with amazing service and location. They have an outdoor patio where you can bring your dog. The restaurant is very accommodating to dogs as they will bring a water bowl and they even provide a dog menu! The service here has always been amazing and the food is solid. I always get the French Onion soup here which has been consistently good. IMO, it’s not the best I’ve ever had, but it’s good, reasonably priced, and filling, so I have gotten it every time I come. I do not recommend getting this if you are doing takeout, it’s not great when it’s not fresh The last few times I have been here, I had the pork chop which may have been the best I have ever had in my life. However, on my last visit the pork chop did not come with cranberry sauce or puree, which was a bit disappointing as the new style was a bit over-salted and not as tender as before. I think the cranberry sauce is seasonal, which is unfortunate as that was 90% of the reason I came here. I’m not sure if they’ll make it with the cranberry sauce for you, but it’s worth asking. Otherwise, I would say skip the pork chop as the spring/summer variation is not as good The Raclette burger is also very good. It comes with glazed Pork Belly, which is a unique combination of rich, savory and sweet. My dog had the 8 oz grilled ground beef, and she says it was 10/10. This left bank is conveniently located in the restaurant row in Jack London square by the docks and very close to the ferry. If you’re coming from San Francisco, I highly recommend taking the ferry as it will take you to JLS portal within walking distance of all the restaurants, shops, theatre. bowling alley, etc. and riding the ferry is always a treat

Google
Best Happy Hour in Oakland? They don’t have a big food menu for happy hour but the few selections are top notch. Get the Short Rib Poutine which is a generous portion (relative to normally small portions you get at other Happy Hours) of fries topped off with the most flavorful shredded short rib meat and cheese. I got a Boulevardier (mixed drink) for only $8 because all Bourbon mixed drinks are available at Happy Hour prices! When do you ever see that?? You can also get a Bull Dog gin but ask that it have the Fever Tree tonic — again for $8. We were doing a InKind deal where we had to spend $150 to get $50 off so ordered dinners to go home: a half roasted chicken dinner, a Salad Lyonnaise and a Creme Brulee were more than enough to put us over the top.

Google
If the Grand Opening of The Left Bank Friday night was an indication of things to come for diners at Jack London Square in Oakland, then residents and visitors to the new Oakland, finally, have something special to cheer about! The turnout of food enthusiasts was significant, with an hour wait for a table soon after the doors were opened even though the dining room and bar area is enormous. It was a well coordinated and animated effort. It seemed like half of Oakland was hired to provide welcoming and stylish service. The decor was authentic and most importantly the food and drinks were delicious. Hopefully The Left Bank has the fortitude to hang out until all of the beautiful new residencies in Oakland fill up. If that becomes the case, it could bode well for the Jack London Square activity scene we've been waiting for.

Google
Went here after an A's day game. Was so happy they were serving at the 4 pm time. Food and service were great, although there were only two tables being served, so service should be great. Regardless, food was wonderful. Oysters on the half shell, calamari, mussels, and big burger with caramelized onions and a slice of pork belly, was the meal for three people. Aga in just delightful.

Yelp
After a recent Yelp event at this relatively new to Jack London Square restaurant, I was looking forward to returning for lunch. The food was amazing at this event, and I knew I would enjoy lunch. When my friend P suggested we meet for lunch, I suggested we come to the Left Bank. As usual, I was torn when I read the menu. I was tempted by the multi-course lunch it included, even though I am not a fan, Escargot. I would have given them to P. I wanted to try the onion soup but it was not on the special lunch so I passed on that and ordered off the menu. I finally decided on 1/2 pound of Moules and Frites in garlic Pernod broth, and the Onion Soup. The soup was rich and tasty. I enjoyed it. The Pernod broth was the perfect compliment for the succulent mussels. I wish I had put the Pernod broth that I did not finish in the container with my leftover soup. We both liked the fries; they were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly salted. P had the fish special. We also ordered bread. We had water and passed on dessert. The restaurant is spacious, we sat on the patio and enjoyed the view. It was a nice day and I was reminded of all the good things about Oakland. I am sorry I did not get the server's name she was pleasant and professional. There are two nearby parking lots. I understand that they do validate for the Amtrak lot across the tracks. Both lots are very close to the restaurant. I was happy, I found 4-hour street parking by the Amtrak station. I hate to pay for parking and don't mind walking to save a few dollars. I did have to wait for the train to go by before I could walk through the front door. It took me a while to get here after the Yelp event it will not take me long to go back for another lunch. I would even go by myself.

Yelp
Located in Jack London Square, Left Bank Brasserie is a delightful French eatery with a classy interior that boasts stunning ocean views, making it an ideal spot for a casual happy hour, a romantic dinner, or a place to a celebrate a special occasion! We visited during happy hour which is available at the bar, lounge, and patio every day from 3 pm-6 pm , and its hands down the BESTTT happy hour spot in Easy Bay! Cocktails were reasonably priced between $8 and $9. Now, let's talk about the food. The menu features a wide variety of mouthwatering appetizers that are perfect for sharing--or eating yourself! The 3 pork belly sliders were rich and flavorful with a satisfying crunch. The short rib poutine was another favorite, combining tender meat with perfectly crispy fries, all smothered in savory gravy. For seafood lovers, the mussels and calamari were fresh and cooked to perfection, while the oysters at just $2 each were an absolute steal! Service at Left Bank Brasserie was excellent; the staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. If you're looking for a place that offers delicious French cuisine in a chic setting, this is it! Don't miss out on this gem in Jack London Square! Can't wait to revisit and try the entrees this weekend for two birthday dinner celebrations!!! :)

Yelp
PSA: Come for happy hour between 3-6. The portion and prices are phenomenal for the amazing quality of food!! It was perfect weather outside, so I had wanted to dine outdoors. Left bank's patio is expansive and covered. Perfect spot to enjoy outdoor dining comfortably as well as people watch as they walk down the boardwalk. Happy hour goodies: * Half dozen oysters (perfectly shucked and good quality!) $12 * Steamed mussels with toasted French bread $10 * short rib poutine $10 * cheese burger sliders $6 each All were full portions and delicious!! Waitstaff was super attentive and friendly. Totally will come back again to try the rest of the menu!!

Yelp
Oysters, mussels, wine, and French onion soup on a beautiful day on the back patio?! Well, you ain't got to tell me twice! Love, love, loooove me some Left Bank Brasserie! Especially during happy hour because... they have a BOMB ass happy hour. Left Bank has become one of my favorite go-to spots for happy hour in Oakland. I've been a few times now, and to say that I'm hooked would be a complete understatement. What I also love is that happy hour is 7 days a week! Saturday afternoon on the patio sounds like my kind of end of the week celebration for sure. So, let's get into the deets now shall we?! First off, the ambience is absolutely wonderful! Their dining room has very classic décor with a beautiful wrap around bar area. It's open, airy, and spacious. The service is generally pleasant and attentive although there have been a few instances where it's been slow. I will say that it has been quite busy on their patio this summer, so I'll cut them slack with the service piece. Speaking of their patio; it's just simply the place to be. You'll have a great view of the Jack London Marina and Square and it feels nice to be out there when the weather is warm like it has been lately. Foodwise, you honestly can't go wrong here. If you're a seafood lover, their mussels are to die for! They're so succulent and the broth is always so soothing and flavorful. I also really enjoy the fresh oysters here as well. You pretty have to get their French onion soup. It's pretty damn phenomenal. All of that amazing melted cheese coupled with the sweet onions will be sure to knock those socks off. The happy hour apps are great here too. I mean, I haven't had a bad meal yet since I've dined here. Also, pleeeease save room for dessert and get the crème brulee or the profiteroles! Both are decadent and the perfect way to end your meal off right. What more can I say about this place? I could probably just gloat all day, but I'll just say that you need to get here and pronto. A little piece of French food heaven just tucked away in Jack London Square. I'm so grateful to have Left Bank in the neighborhood. They ain't neva getting' rid of me now... neva, nevaaa!

Yelp
AMAZING spot for happy hour at Jack London. I haven't been to a happy hour in a while, but I used to go quite often, and let me tell you, the one here shot up to one of my favorites after just one visit! Happy hour is offered everyday from 3-6 pm. The food and drink specials were amazing and I was able to sample almost everything from the food menu. I visited on a Friday around 5:30 pm with 2 other friends and was glad to find that it wasn't too crowded. They have indoor and outdoor seating both, and if you opt to sit outside you can enjoy live music in the summertime every Friday evening through the end of September. I started with their Not-so-prickly margarita, which is a non-alcoholic margarita, for $9. It tasted like lemonade - a refreshing and delicious choice. You can get any wells drink for $8, so my friends got a gin and ginger beer as well as an old fashioned. Pours were generous even with happy hour pricing. For the food, my friends and I tried almost everything on the happy hour menu except for the olives. I particularly enjoyed the oysters ($12 for half dozen), mussels ($12), and the grilled pork belly sliders ($6), but overall everything was super solid. I must also mention the excellent service provided by our server, Majid, as well as Kevin, the store manager. They were both very friendly and made sure that our dining experience was top-notch. Overall, I highly recommend Left Bank Brasseries for an amazing happy hour, delicious food and drink specials, and friendly staff. I will definitely be returning in the future! They have a $25 weekday lunch special that I'd love to try.

Yelp
Very very accommodating due to a delay in our arrival.I appreciate this. Brought friends to try this venue. The quick lunch prefix menu gives you 4 choices for each of your starter and entrées. dessert is the same for all. We started our $25 - 3 course lunch with a lovely light salad. Someone ordered the mushroom soup and that was a generous portion. We all ordered mussels in delicious spinach green broth. There is light buttered slice of buttered bread to soak up the broth. Where do you put your mussel shells? They provide a beautiful container for the used shells. All my mussels were opened, but one of my other diners mussel dish had a closed mussel shell... this not safe to eat, so he tossed it. The fries came presented in tins with " newspaper and red collar". The dessert is 2 French macarons cookies. So perfect to finish the meal. We had excellent service at this visit as I always do at this restaurant. Our server was excellent.

Yelp
A gorgeous summer Sunday afternoon demanded that we find a patio somewhere to enjoy drinks and nibbles for happy hour. We remembered that neighbors had previously commented that Left Bank Brasserie in Jack London Square was worth visiting. And considering they are right down the street, we saw this as a perfect excuse to finally check it out ourselves. We are super glad that we did! Left Bank is located in a prime waterfront location in Jack London Square, occupying corner space right along the estuary. This location has changed hands many times over the past couple of decades, but has always had a very inviting outdoor dining patio. While the rebranding to Left Bank came with a lot of interior upgrades and redesigns, we were delighted that the patio area remains inviting and spacious. Without reservations, we were immediately seated outside and had a lovely breeze and optimum people watching as we scanned the menu. It was still happy hour so we found a few plates worth ordering (all $10 or less) as well as cocktails and wine. We were asked whether we wanted still or sparkling water and bread (be warned the sparkling water is $9 and bread $5). I made the rookie mistake of saying yes to both that immediately undercut the happy hour savings. Both were excellent, but not $14 excellent. Anyway, we ordered a dirty martini and sparkling wine for drinks ($8 each) and then for nibbles we selected the happy hour priced fried calamari ($10) and the cheeseburger slider ($6). The restaurant was neither full nor particularly busy, but our drink order didn't arrive until after the first food plate was brought to the table. A small hiccup in the grand scheme of things, but our main objective was taking advantage of happy hour pricing, and we only had about 30 min before that ended. The holdup seemed more like a bartender issue than a server issue, but hopefully that sorts itself out. My dirty martini was ice cold, perfectly mixed, and delicious. And the hubby enjoyed his glass of cava. My cheeseburger slider arrived and was perfectly medium rare as requested. It didn't come with any condiments other than some chopped pickle on the side, but in truth it didn't need anything. The beef flavor was rich and had great char. Our fried calamari arrived hot to the table, but was a little less crisp than we would have preferred. It seemed like it wasn't allowed to drain fully, so was plated a little on the greasy side atop a smear of tartar sauce. Flavor-wise, it was delicious. But could have used a bit more blotting on some paper. The squid was perfectly tender, however. No rubberbands! Either the drinks were strong, the food was so good, or both, but we had time left in happy hour to order another round of drinks, another slider, and also the shredded short rib smothered poutine (10). This time the wait wasn't as long for the drinks and food. Drinks were consistently good, same with the slider replay. The short rib poutine was a generous bowl of crisp shoestring fries (see! They can fry things crisp!) with a ladle of braised short rib meat on top. Not a light bite by any imagination, but utterly delicious. Service was attentive and friendly and made us feel welcome. Despite a few glitches with food delivery and the calamari fry, nothing put us off wanting to return to Left Bank Brasserie again to explore around the full menu.

Yelp
Service was a bit slow but good otherwise. Thankfully we were caught up in conversation so the slow service didn't make too large of an impact. We made a reservation via Open Table on a Saturday morning for brunch and it wasn't really needed as they weren't too busy! I Their decor and furniture is beautiful, it definitely gives a modern feel. Berry martini: 10/10 (so good I needed them to keep em coming! lol) Croque Madame: 10/10 - I was iffy about ordering this one but it did NOT disappoint. It was AMAZING!! - I had already eaten half of it before I remembered to take a picture! Fondue: 7/10 - not the best or worst fondue I've ever had just nothing special. Overall my first experience was good enough for me to want to come back to try out lunch or dinner :)

Yelp
We came here for my birthday and what a lovely restaurant. The staff were wonderful and attentive. I haven't been here since Bocanova. The food was great. I ordered the escargot and mussels and fries. It was a bit salty for my taste but the flavors were great. Would definitely come back for a more intimate dinner. We were a party of 12. Everyone said they enjoyed their meal and had a wonderful time. So happy there's a French restaurant near by.

Yelp
Saw them on IG and HAD to come in for dessert. Ordered the tarte au citron + the ginger gypsy and they both hit the spot! I hate faux lemon taste or when its too sweet. It was zingy which I loved. My drink was nice and gingery. Walking in, it such a beautiful restaurant. But you feel at home. Everyone was all smiles and had great conversation. You saw singles, dates, small families, and large parties -- great for everyone! Will have to come back for brunch like the waitress suggested. Such a gem!

Yelp
Wasn't the biggest fan of French food until I tried this place out! Located on the gorgeous Jack London Square at the Oakland waterfront, Left Bank Brasserie was the perfect graduation brunch choice for my friend who just graduated from nearby UC Berkeley. The choice ended up being perfect indeed, as I was met with professional servers who handled our needs with care the moment we stepped into the restaurant, despite the kitchen being backed up due to the busyness of the restaurant. I got the Left Bank Smoked Salmon Hash, which was a layered potato cake, smoked salmon, crème fraîche, chives, and two soft poached eggs. Because I ended up having to wait for the food for a long time, the server ended up giving us a discount for the inconvenience, which was incredibly kind and something that I had never been offered before. Despite all that, the wait was worth it. The quality of the smoked salmon hash was very high: the breaking of the poached egg and the freshness of the salmon really stood out to me. The potato cake and the chives were such a good compliment to it. My friends and I all ended up sharing the Stone Fruit Clafoutis and Noel Royal Bittersweet Chocolate Fondant. I personally like the cherry and raspberry sorbet since it has a certain tanginess to it that I've never tasted before. To top it all off, our server gave my friend free champagne as a graduation gift. Overall, my entire dining experience was a 10/10! I had luxurious, amazing French food at the right place with the right people :)

Yelp
In support of Oakland restaurant week, hubby and I trekked over to Jack London Square to try Left Bank because we are mussels people. We arrived at noon and I pushed open the door to ask if they were open. The two gentleman were working and said yes. I bit odd to me. Anyways, we were promptly seated inside by the window which had a nice view of the patio and the harbor. A lovely day! Our waiter arrived right away and was very attentive and a pleasure to have. We had regular and sparkling water and decided on the $25 prix fixe and the fried chicken sandwich. I chose the Salade Verte, Moules Frites and Noel Royale bittersweet chocolate fondant. Fancy names! The star was the fried chicken sandwich which is an entire thigh that is cooked to perfection. Two halves of the juicy thigh are sitting atop pickles, a carrot slaw within a toasted brioche bun. And of course lovely fries. Hubby took out one half of the thigh and ate that so that he could save the rest for later. He could not stop humming with joy at the deliciousness of the chicken alone. Juicy, seasoned well and fried to crunchy perfection. I have to remember that restaurant week menus are tasting menus, right? The salad could have used a few more leaves but overall fresh and tender with just the right amount of tanginess. Mussels: Just seven in the serving along with a nice slice of rustic bread. The mussels were served with spinach in a white wine and garlic sauce. Dessert: The Noel Royale Bittersweet Chocolate Fondant was baked in the shape of a cupcake, topped with a scoop of raspberry sorbet, a tablespoon of whipped cream on one side and some crumbs on the other side. An odd pairing and overall meh. I just googled what a chocolate fondant cake is and it is typically quite moist with a fudgy center. While the center was dense, IMO, it was overcooked and dry to my liking. And, missing any strong chocolate flavor. Some raspberry puree and or fresh raspberries would have been nice. So, one less star because the dessert wasn't a standout for me. Overall a good experience and a lovely place for some fine dining. I'd be happy to come again, especially on a nice warm day. We found street parking across the railroad tracks and wished that we have more time to walk around. Always enjoy being by the water.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped by on a Thursday evening for the first day of Oakland Restaurant Week 2024. We didn't have a reservation but when we showed up at 6:00 p.m., the place was still pretty empty and we were able to get seated right away, opting to sit outside on the covered patio since it was a really nice day outside. The prix fixe for $35 is a steal! We both got the escargot with garlic butter as our starter. Be sure to order the side of bread and butter so you have more bread to dip into the delicious sauce the snails are poached in. For our mains, I got the beef bourguignon while my wife got the moules frites. The mussels were plump and the sauce was similar to that of the escargot, but a bit more thin. The beef bourguignon was melt in your mouth tender. Last but not least, four our dessert course, we opted for one of the cherry clafoutis and one of the chocolate fondant. Both of us preferred the chocolate dessert more as the cherries in the clafoutis was far too sour. We really enjoyed the pacing of the meal, the ambience, and definitely the incredible deal offered for Restaurant Week.

Yelp
This is my second time coming here and my hat off to Ramallah, Ben, The Chef, Melinda, Kevin and the rest of the the staff for their great service and hospitality The food is equally amazing. As well as great entrees the happy hour food was just as great and satisfying, worth checking out

Yelp
I feel like I'm a bit biased because I heard good things about this place beforehand. They both discovered this place about month ago through a yelp elite event and wanted to check out the happy hour menu. I arrived first (yes I know. How is that even possible lol) and was greeted by the manager. He introduced himself as Kevin and let me choose a place to sit. The whole place was just so pretty; they had outdoor seating, bar seating, and three sections within the restaurant itself. There was a cozy area that he suggested but he told me I should find a spot that might work better. I chose a window area that gave us a view of the restaurant as well as the outdoor area. It as pretty early still so there were lots of seatings open. I think I chose a nice spot. The others arrived and we started out with cocktails. We just ordered off the happy hour menu to share with the table. Everything was just perfect. The drinks were cute and reasonably priced, food was the perfect portion for us to share and the server as well as the manager checked up on us a few times and they both were very personable. Even when the place started to fill up, water was always filled, table was kept clean after apps were done, and drinks were ordered when we were low. Off the HH menu, I loved the pork belly sliders the most, and calamari was a run I guess I could write a handful but you get the idea. Perfect spot to go to if you're in the area. It's walkable from the ferry, or there's parking that's validated around the corner. Thank you Kevin and Majid (?) for giving us such a wonderful dining experience.

Yelp
Amazing customer service! Our sever, Jarret was super attentive and accommodating. I was instantly greeted as soon as I walked in. The bartender and Manager was also friendly. I ordered the escargot and cod special, both very tasty and well seasoned. The restaurant was spacious, clean, warm and inviting. I will be back to try their brunch.

Yelp
Happy Hour: half dozen oysters with mignonette sauce, savory white wine sauce accompanying the mussels and an outside seat with the sun shining on my face. Service was great, will def be coming back

Yelp
Food is great! Go for happy hour EVERYDAY 4pm - 6pm I always get a dozen oysters ($12) and an espresso martini . Got the fries and bottle of champagne for $25 ( I believe that was the price?) Go check it out !

Yelp
The place has great decor and is a nice place for a couples dinner. My beef stew was good. One person didn't like their sole dish. Wife liked the black cod dinner. The oysters were great! Our French onion soup was average and not having that again. Felt safe in this part of Jack London Square this night as they must patrol the place well.

Yelp
I really like Left Bank. It is a large, but somewhat cozy restaurant and bar. My friends and I started at the bar. The bartender was friendly and efficient. She took care of us and all the drink orders from tables. Once seated, our server was great. He was warm, friendly, funny, and knowledgeable about the menu. The soup of the day was mushroom. It was rich, creamy and delicious. The steak frites were perfectly medium rare. The bordelaise sauce was very rich and complimented the steak beautifully. The fries were crispy, salty, and not at all greasy. And to finish my meal was the Cafe Liegeois. That dessert has vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and a shot of espresso. So yummy! Left Bank is a very nice restaurant, friendly staff, and a wonderful location right by the water.

Yelp
Wow Left Bank is beautiful inside! It feels so luxe inside with leather booths, a fabulous bar, and all in all great ambiance. Happy Hour is 3-6. For food, we started on the happy hour menu. 1/2 lb of mussels (delicious) and $8 well cocktails. Finished off with the steak frites with the au poivre sauce and the roasted mushrooms. All in all very delicious, everything was cooked and seasoned well. Our server was very friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. Only weird part of service was we finished our mussels before the server came back for us to order our entree, so there was a lag between the two courses.

Yelp
Food: 5/5 | Service: 4/5 | Experience: 5/5 Came to Left Bank for a family dinner and the food did not disappoint. Even their happy hour (HH) food was fresh and high quality. The service was on the slower side and the waiter did not check in often, but we did not mind too much because once we ordered the food was prepared quickly, came out hot, and was spaced/timed well. All the meat was very tender and flavorful. The restaurant gets great light so it was lovely to go on a summer evening when so much sunlight was coming in. The staff is also very friendly and the manager was making rounds saying hello to everyone. What we ordered: * happy hour menu: calamari, mussels, oysters * mains: beef, trout, pork chop, burger * desserts: cream puffs, creme brulee Things to know: * go a little before 6pm so you can enjoy happy hour items with your dinner * food comes out fast, but service with the waiter is slower * great food and most dishes are not heavily salted * was not too busy on a Thursday night

Yelp
I have always wanted to like this place. It's gorgeous, on the water, perfect if you're feeling up for a fancy meal. However it's just sub par every time. I've gone 4-5 times with hoped that they've improved over time but no, the food is bland, the service is just ok. Today I sent back FRENCH FRIES because they were burnt. How do you mess up French fries. Also what is up with the permanent construction site in front? Looks like broken sewer lines.

Yelp
Came by for a lazy weekend lunch. I've been to another LB location before and always was somewhat fond of the Euro/bougie brasserie style of dining. Cept when I go to a real French spot with actual French/Euro employees, the service is a little more on point. Like they just are more polished in the craft of service, whereas Americans treat it more like a job/chore. Not saying it was the case here, but just a general observation over many years of dining out. They did a nice job at transforming this space to make it theirs. It has been several things over the course of a decade and a half. I've been to probably 2 other incarnations here and are hoping this one has a better run. Very light and airy inside, huge windows flood the space with natural light. I was digging the ambiance for sure. Got a couple of glasses of wine throughout my meal. Kinda surprised that there seemed more California wines than French. But that isn't entirely a bad thing, just an expectation thing. Acme Bread n Butter ($5/4*) I usually don't like when places that traditionally used to give out bread service now charge for it. But at least this place doesn't try and gouge the customers and the bread they actually use is top notch. So a $5 charge didn't irk me as much. I've been charged $10 for bread and I start to get peeved then. And to have a French meal without good bread and butter is a bit sacrilege to me. Cream of Asparagus Soup ($11/4.5*) This was their soup of the day and since we are approaching asparagus season, I felt obligated. Plus you just can't lose with the French way to make creamy soups, they've got it down to an art. Very smooth and creamy and perfectly seasoned. Not as strong of an asparagus taste as I was expecting but rather soft. I ended up throwing some croutons from my salad into the soup as to give it some texture and proved to be a nice move. Great with sips of an Alsatian Riesling which was crisp yet dry with a nice green apple nuance. Salade Lyonaise ($15/4*) Tender frisee whole leaves are dressed in a tangy mustard-y vinaigrette. Lots of cubed quite smoky lardons which are closer to ham in texture to me than bacon. More chewy than crisp which I actually like for salads. Lots of croutons also, that I was able to spare some for my soup. 1 poached egg that you break and mix with everything, which is the wow topper to this salad. Except for the size of the salad that they give you should have 2 eggs on it, as the lone egg almost got lost in the sea of other ingredients. Mussels ($10/4.5*) I was able to score on their HH menu while I was there and it is a great bonus. I think this may be a tad smaller than their regular portion, but that was fine since I was munching on other things as well. Perfectly cooked mussels in a rich creamy broth of shallots, fennel, Pernod , white wine and either cream or butter. The sauce was a tad salty but with that crusty yet meaty Acme bread next to me, I just couldn't leave any of it behind. Finished with a spiked coffee cocktail as there was a winter's chill in the air that day. They use a good coffee, which is of no surprise from a French restaurant. A nice relaxing meal in Euro fashion, just actually surprised I was able to grab one in Oakland. Not a complaint at all, a joyful appreciation actually. An inevitable and willing return is definitely in the works.

Yelp
Went there for the Restaurant Week special. Service was mostly very good, though at one point we had to wait and ask for more utensils, because ours had been taken away and not replaced. Ambiance was quiet enough on a weeknight at 5:30 that we had no trouble hearing each other. So that was good. Food was ok. The mains were the best - mussels and boeuf bourguignon. The mussels were fresh, and the beef was quite good. Servings were not very big. The first course was not great. We tried the salad - butter lettuce drowning in dressing that could've come from a store-bought bottle. The mushroom soup needed cream, and was too salty, to me it kind of tasted like it came from a can. We had to pay extra and explicitly request bread, but that was good when it came (though it seemed to be a chunk off a store-bought loaf). Dessert was also not great. Cherry clafoutis with vanilla ice cream, and a chocolate thing with raspberry sorbet. They were both fine, but not amazing. Overall, it felt overpriced. I can imagine they were trying to make it worth their while, but this was a chance to impress us, and it was mostly a missed opportunity. I'd consider going back and only ordering entrées.

Yelp
Oakland Restaurant week It was a beautiful sunny afternoon so my hb and I chose Left Bank for restaurant week. After reading mixed reviews (mostly about service) we were prepared. With reservations we were seated in the outdoor area facing the water. We quickly ordered from the $25 Prix fixe lunch menu. First course: salad verte and escargot. The butter lettuce had a very light vinaigrette and not much else. The escargot was garlicky and a perfect first. Second course: moules frites and Niçoise salad. It was definitely a smaller lunch portion. There were about 10 mussels but they were plump and fresh. The salad had 2 very thin slices of tuna ... it looked like a side salad. Nonetheless it was delicious and left room for the third course. Dessert: cherry clafoutis and chocolate fondant. I really enjoyed the clafoutis. It was too sweet and the cherries were not sour. The chocolate fondant was like chocolate cake. A the pleasant experience but I think my hb could've had a fourth course The service (for us) was attentive and the dishes were well paced. It took 20 minutes to get our first course after ordering. However I did notice other tables waiting a long time for their food. I overheard that ordering from the regular menu was taking longer and the server was very apologetic. Tip: they validate parking but it's for the parking garage at the end near Amtrak

Yelp
Large space, noisy even when less than 1/4 full. Not the place if you want to have conversations. Had the mushroom bourguignon - it was ok, very salty. Took 3/4 home and had over plain noodles which helped. Service was ok on a Thursday night. Drinks were ok. Nothing was unpleasant.

Yelp
Our new "go to"! We love this spot. Ambience is beautiful, variety of quality food options and the view of Jack London Square - it's a win. We've tried a variety of their dishes and I truly can't determine which is our favorite- yet. We've been there three (3) times. Drinks are well crafted - I tried the Ritual Zero Proof which was a nice zero proof option. Their happy hour is great too! Daily with quality food - oysters, mussels, calamari. We've enjoyed a table by the window and hanging with locals at the bar. Their service has been excellent. Add a very intentional playlist and I'm all in! Cheers to the General Manager, Kevin Godfrey, for orchestrating a great team, menu, and experience.

Yelp
This location of Left Bank is pretty much like the others, The food is great, the service is smooth, professional and friendly. And the prices are about what you would expect for the area. The French onion soup is delicious, definitely order the bread, it is very good, and we'd love the warm olives. The sliders were surprisingly tasty. And the cocktails were lovely.

Yelp
Have been back a few times; however won't be going back again. With my last visit, service was okay so I gave a 15% ($4.50) tip, which I thought was an okay tip = total of $37.47; imagine my surprise a few days later when my credit card statement showed instead $46.07, a $13 tip, almost 3 times my original tip. The add'l amount was an unauthorized transaction and fraudulent, as far as I'm concern. Not sure if they hope folks do not check their credit card transactions.

Yelp
We did a small work gathering and booked a party room. I thought it was very nice and intimate. They have a few options for private rooms so you have options. This restaurant is a French cuisine and every dish was so good. They were super respectful and thoughtful to everyone's restrictions. They were super nice and accommodating. Will def recommend this place for a gno or even a work event.

Yelp
Thanks for a fun dinner last night. Cozy booths, delicious Beef bourguignon, French onion soup, hot perfect French fries and great service by Benjamin. I enjoyed the previous Bocanova and nice use of the space again. Will be back.

Yelp
BRUNCH REVIEW: What a great addition to Jack London Square! We came here for brunch. The waterfront view is amazing, and inside the restaurant is beautifully decorated with large fresh floral displays. Brunch is served from 11am - 3pm on weekends, but you may also order from their regular menu during this time as well. All their brunch items looked so good, it was hard to decide. What we ordered: + Escargots - the escargots were tender and not chewy, and the butter/garlic sauce was worth licking up. + Mushroom and spinach quiche - Yummy, cheesy, eggy. Comes with a nice salad. + French ham omelet - simple yet very tasty. Comes with country fried potatoes. + Duck confit - oh the duck was was so tender and juicy. Came with 2 perfectly poached eggs and country potatoes. + Moules frites - this is a pound of steamed mussels in a buttery wine sauce. Comes with french fries. It was a lot of food, and so good. + Kids grilled ham and cheese with tomato soup - so this is the fanciest kids plate I've ever seen. The grilled ham & cheese was in a bun, like a burger. Unfortunately it was not a hit with our toddler. + Tarte au citron - lemon tart - yummy lemon custard with a delicious pastry crust. Overall, a lovely dining experience with top notch service. Highly recommend for brunch.

Yelp
Had a lovely experience dining at Left Bank. Lots of options and a great location. I had the chicory salad and the French onion soup and both were great. I feel like the salad was a bit small but i ended up ordering a side of fries which were so good that I didn't complain. Service was great, our waiter was very helpful and attentive. I will forsure be back.

Yelp
Left Bank is the newest installment to restaurant row in Jack London. Directly next door to Farmhouse Kitchen. The interior of the restaurant is modern and nice looking. But since it was a beautiful sunny day in Jack London, with the outside seating facing the Estuary, majority of patrons were seated there. We were seated and shortly after handed menus and offered water by our waiter. He asked us for our drink order followed by our food orders: Moules Frites: a pound of mussels with spinach and white wine. It was delicious and I would highly recommend. Poulet Frit: half fried chicken. It was fried perfectly and came to the table piping hot. Be careful. It was solid but not mind blowing. Raclette Burger: cheese with pork belly. This was the disappointment of the afternoon. The burger was flavorless. If any burger ever needed condiments to save it, it would be this burger. Better to be named a "ratchet" or is it wretched burger. Stay clear of the burger. Next time I pay a visit, I would like to try the Duck Confit. All that being said, the service was phenomenal. Our waiter was great. Couldn't ask for better service. So overall a solid French Restaurant next to the Seafood restaurant to the left, then the Thai Restaurant, next to the Italian restaurant. Are we missing anything?

Yelp
This is the perfect place for some fire drinks and small bites if you're on the run OR for a perfect sit down dinner. The French art everywhere makes the place feel like you're definitely not in Jack London anymore! The grilled pork chop was excellent, the calamari was some of the best I've had. The staff is incredible. They explained each dish in detail when we had questions and I was practically drooling on the table. The beef short ribs were SO tender and tasty and the shrimp was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Definitely a cute spot for a date. The only downside was the French onion didn't have as much flavor as I'd hoped, but I'd be absolutely willing to try again! My only wish is that I had enough time to try the crème brûlée!

Yelp
I've been to Left Bank in Santana Row, SJ a number of times and it's nice. But this one in JLS, Oakland has an amazing patio and view. It was a lovely day so outside patio dining was called for. The servers were very nice an accommodating. The prawns app was awesome! Salmon was very good too. Lemongrass non-alcoholic drink was very refreshing. With the nice views and lovely weather it was a very nice lunch.

Yelp
The only thing you need to know: order the Les profiteroles. This place is such a good date night spot. Very romantic inside and great for catching up with friends and family. The service was great! Really attentive, knowledgeable and of course encouraged dessert, please see the first line. The menu wasn't too big but had all the French staples. The plates are a good size for sharing with one another or perfect if you came hungry. The desserts were also meant to be shared. They have a full bar so you can get their cocktails or customize your own. We left saying that you could really taste the "technical" skills. It's all pretty basic, but the ingredients and skills are there. We might watch too much top chef! Lol

Yelp
The staff here and the ambiance were phenomenal. I liked them so much I gave them over a 30% tip. The food was a solid 4 stars. Would have been 5, but the duck was too salty for me, and so were the beans. The beef tartar was great. My only complaint would be I wish it was colder instead of room temperature, which in Oakland, is a little on the warm side for rare beef. The egg and beef were on the watmer side. But, the flavors were definitely there. My coworkers salad was good, and so was the Acme bread. We never felt rushed, and the staff was on it every step of the way. They're better than a Michelin Star restaurant for its service team. From clearing plates to placing my food in the box for me (I couldn't eat the salty duck, so I took it home for my roommate). I didn't bring it the waitresses' attention because she was just so awesome, as was the staff, and I didn't want to have them remake it when they're busy with other tables. Maybe people like salty duck and maybe it's just me. The skin was super crispy and the meat was tender. The beans were also salty but a nice hot temperature. The escargot was great with lots of butter and parsley. The creme brulee was amazing, and I can definitely say this is a great restaurant for Jack London Square.

Yelp
3.5 stars, maybe 4 if you don't order their $9 bottled water. The food is ok, albeit on the saltier side. The mussels broth was wayyy too salty as was the salad that came with the steak frites. We had to ask for extra greens without any salt or dressing to mix with it. Enjoyed the escargot and French onion soup. Again, a bit too salty. One thing I felt the staff needs to do better is TELL THE CUSTOMER before charging for water. Asking "Still or sparking" but then not clarify tap vs bottled water felt misleading. Don't just bring out a glass bottle of Evian and then charge $9 for it. We ended up paying $18 for WATER!! We're not in Europe y'all, come on now. Overall an okay experience but knocking one star for the lack of communication on the water charges and another for overly salty food. Clearly, I'm salty about the water

Yelp
We had a gift card and wanted to try Left Bank. Made reservations on Open Table but the restaurant was about 1/2 full on a Sunday night. Easy parking in the Jack London garage. Nice interior decor. Right away, not a great start. Noticed they charge $5 for bread. For a nice restaurant, really? -1*. We ordered a variety of appetizers and dishes, no drinks. The French Onion Soup was the star of the meal. A little salty but the guyere cheese was fantastic. 5* Escargot lacked flavor and the snails were rubbery. 2* Calamari was OK. 3* The Housemade Gilled Sausage was OK, but the veggies were a little too sour. 3* The steak frites were cooked well but lacked flavor. 3* Burgers were good, but overpriced for what you get. Fries were crisp but a little salty 3* The service was great. Attentive but not overbearing. 4*. Overall, the food was OK but not up to the prices they charge. Overall experience was OK. We probably won't go back.

Yelp
Lovely spot with outdoor dining options. Happy hour specials. Friendly and accomodating service. When the first drink we ordered proved a mite too sweet, they replaced it with another recommendation. No fuss. Extra plates? No problem. More bread? Here you go! Enjoyed the oysters, the delicious prawns provencal in a garlic butter & pernod sauce (must have the bread to soak that all up) and a Salade Nicoise, big enough to split. Just sitting in the shaded sunshine there, watching the boats and happy people out for a walk.

Yelp
I'll start off with the positives...(Visited on Wed 4/19) Location is 5 stars. Interior is nice, dimly lit so it doesn't feel like a casual dining location for sure. It would be nice if they opened earlier, once summer hits, their patio would be great to sit outside and have a glass of wine or cocktail.. Service was 4 stars. Our waitress was nice, and friendly. It was a bit slow in my opinion, took a long time to get our food and drinks after we ordered. Food was a disappointment, 2 1/2 stars. I ordered the Beef Bourguignon (Short Ribs). Ordered because the waitress recommended it. 3 of us at our table ordered it. Mine was salty, my brothers had very few vegetables, and my moms had nothing but the meat. She had to ask to get some of the veggies added, and as we ate, she noticed most of her meat was mainly fat. My boyfriend had the Steak Frites. His plate was small, but he said it was pretty good. My sister (whom we were celebrating her birthday) ordered the salmon and got very sick overnight. Overall, I would only return for wine and appetizers on a warm sunny day to sit outside. It is expensive for the quality of food.

Yelp
Do not eat here. Service: Our waiter spoke kind at least. My table and I noticed she would only speak soup specials to busier, sociable tables. We never heard of the specials.. She lacked attentiveness, as she got our orders wrong twice. It's noticeable when a waiter is ignoring a table.. Appetizers: Waiter asked if we wanted bread & butter, why did it look like someone just threw a half loaf and lazily tried to slice it? Also we got charged for it, who charges for bread and butter? Wasn't even good. The tuna tartare was so bad. So tiny, didn't even taste fresh and just disappointing. Main Entrees: Frozen, smells weird and portions were off. I asked for a medium well steak for my Steak Frites, I got it rare. Straight bloody. The bordelaise sauce tasted super bitter..Duck Pancit tasted like it was frozen, and sauce was super duper salty. Bouillabaisse was terrible, who gives a customer a tiny baby crab leg? The mussels taste like the pack I buy from the grocery store. Nothing was fresh at all. Plus the soup for it was horrid. Only the fries and my ketchup helped me out. Dessert: Uhm.. I can't even begin as this is the WORST creme brulee EVER. It is so easy to make a creme brulee and they ruined it! Sooo cold, custard was so liquidy and don't get me started on the caramelized top. It wasn't even caramelized, that's like the best part of creme brulee!! They needed to torch it more because it was not helping this meal at all.

Yelp
It didn't take long and we were back! Had an early Father's Day celebration and we had a good time. Food was consistently delicious! Service was great this time around... thus the extra star! We had a couple of repeat entrées and tried a few new dishes. The oysters appetizer, Bouillabaisse, and Steak Frites were really good. The Pea and Mint Ravioli could use a bit more flavor. The Strawberry Financier was still our top dessert! Not only do you enjoy delicious food, good service, and waterfront view, this upscale restaurant is kid friendly!

Yelp
This place is pretty top notch. Excellent quality of food and drinks, friendly staff and a really lovely ambiance. They had some of the best oysters and mussels I've had in the East bay! So fresh and meaty! The only thing that would make this place even better is if they could improve their outdoor heating situation... adding more heaters, and possibly a variety of heaters, would make this place perfect.

Yelp
A bit pricey, but when the food is really good, it's worth it. We came here for a Saturday early dinner and the Beef bourguignon was awesome - tastes just like Julia Child's recipe in her book The Art of French Cooking. I previously tried making it myself at home but unless you have all day to prepare it, I'll just leave it to the professionals. The hostess and servers were friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Bonjour Left Bank! I love French food. Although it can be a little rich (ahem butter) I enjoy the classic dishes like Moules Frites and hearty beef bourguignon. Location is the previous Belcampo in Jack London Sauare. and they did a beautiful job renovating the place and making it French-forward. I got classic bright upscale cafe vibes on the left and the darker intimate dining area on the right. My friend and I's dinner: -Bees Knees - lavender infused gin, honey and lemon; super refreshing -Salad Lyonnaise- lardons, bacon, frisée - tasty starter -Moules Frites- each mussel was thick, tender and flavorful. The bread tasted buttery and perfect to dip in the addicting Pernod garlic sauce. SO good and 1 lb is perfect for 2 ppl for appetizers. -Steak Frites- this was ok; had better -Duck Confit- cooked well with crispy skin, tender meat, dried fruit and and farro. - Flourless Chocolate Torte- scrumptious, wish it came with vanilla ice cream on top! Our server was having a chaotic Friday night and missed a few things but really appreciated her overall vibe. Prices are what you'd expect in a huge restaurant in JLS - kinda pricey! I'd come back to try the other tasty sounding items -I mean beef bourguignon, raclette burger?! YUM.
