Legado - Review - Shoreditch - London - The Infatuation

"Legado is a Spanish spot from the chef behind Sabor. Expect Andalusian gazpacho, Iberian pork ribs, and dulce de leche churros from the Shoreditch restaurant's menu. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists. RESERVE A TABLE" - Sinéad Cranna

This hyped new opening required booking well in advance. It is in a somewhat isolated location with only another hyped opening (Singburi) keeping it company next door. First impressions - a massive space, but nicely setup with the kitchen fully on display. A small set of counter seats were available but most seating was on regular tables. Our server recommended ordering 4 items per person, unless you included one of the larger sharing plates (of which there are a few). The 3 of us ordered the pan con tomate (topped with beef), anchovy bread, octopus, monkfish tempura, gambas al Ajillo (garlic shrimp), skate wing tortilla, arroz de Cangrejo (rice topped with soft shell crab), Almendritas (oxtail knuckles), leeks, and the lamb txuleton (ribeye). For dessert we tried the churros, crema catalana and the saffron ice cream. The food was mostly excellent. Favourites were the crab rice and the beautifully tender lamb ribeye. While no savoury item disappointed, I’d probably skip the tortilla next time, while the tempura felt rather familiar albeit still quite moreish! Desserts I would say were good rather than great - the churros were well done and probably my pick of the 3, but the accompanying dip was less sweet than the typical cajeta variant which I do prefer. Service was friendly and the meal progressed at a decent pace considering how busy they were. The bill for the 3 of us came to £508, of which £170 was spent on drinks. Pricier than expected for the sibling of Sabor although it has been a while since I visited the latter. Some prices jumped out a bit, such as a single piece of pan con tomate - albeit beef topped - coming in at £12.50. Overall though it was a very satisfying dinner with the high quality of the food outweighing the odd location and punchy pricing.

Really cool place with moreish dishes that you can’t just get anywhere. Great flavor combos, some unusual ones that sound odd at first but somehow come together quite well. Definitely don’t skip the ribs or leche frita. The legado sandwich and artichoke were also fab. I will say that they are veeeery heavy on the oil here to a point where it did feel a bit too much at times, specifically the squid ink pasta, sandwich and artichoke. The flavors in general were quite rich and many fried options, it would be nice to see a bit more balance with dishes such as the scallop. Extensive menu. Friendly service albeit slow at times. Nice interior and vibe. Not cheap, 160£ for two without any drinks and not leaving feeling crazy full… looking forward to trying sabor next time.

Fantastic evening at Legado. Had great bar seating overlooking the kitchen. Excellent service by all staff explaining the menu and each dish as it arrived at the table. We love Sabor and knew Legado would be just as good! Also cool to see Nieves in action too! Congratulations on another fantastic restaurant, we'll be back!

7.5/10 Food Legado was a pleasant experience but for the price paid not surprising or mind blowing as expected. The dishes are safe and tasty but nothing outstanding, just good food. We had the octopus, the quail and the pork ribs - all very good but portions are way too small. You will probably need 6/7 plates per 2 people which will come with a cost. Really enjoyed the saffron ice cream white chocolate mousse dessert - probably the most interesting dish in the whole meal.

Follow on instagram @best_restaurantsldn for more! Overall we really enjoyed Legado, a Spanish restaurant located in old street. They have a selection of creative dishes. The staff were very welcoming and let us stay well beyond the time allocated for our booking. This is a great spot to catch up with friends or for a date night. We especially enjoyed the 3 sip serve drinks (I recommend the peach one). 1. Arroz de Cangrejo 2. Black Fideua, Rock Shrimp, Alioli 3. Pan con Tomate, Cecina 4. Almendritas 5. Legado Sandwich 6. Leche Frita, Chamomile Infusion Ratings * Taste: 8/10 * Service: 8/10 * Price: ££££ * Presentation: 8/10

Second time eating here and it was even better now that I know the menu a little! I’ve been a huge fan of sabor, so was super excited when this larger (and vibey) space opened up. Service is super warm from the moment you step in the door, and the food is delicious. This visit we had the massive Cantabrian anchovies with smoked cheese on brioche, the crab rice, artichoke, legado sandwich and the suckling pig. There was heated debate over whether the crab rice or pig was better-both were amazing! Cannot recommend this spot enough 🤤

We were fortunate enough to get a table at Legado. Food was decent, though nothing to write home about. The suckling pig was meant to be the highlight of the meal, but it was honestly quite disappointing. The meal itself was expensive for what it was, so not the best value for money. We paid £300 for 3 people. However, our server Christopher was amazing, and really made the experience better. He really understood the food and helped us order all the menu highlights. We ordered: Cantabrian anchovy, smoked cheese, brioche £15 - Delicious smokey cheese and savoury anchovy, though small for the price Arroz de Cangrejo £28 - Rich and decadent rice dish, though no discernible crab apart from the deep fried soft shell crab on top Skate wing tortilla, mojo verde £22 - Good, but not sure if the skate made much of a difference. Hidden in the other flavours. Herb crusted rabbit shoulder £13 - Very moorish snack. Would order again. Quarter Segovian suckling pig £85 - Skin was tough (not crispy) in a few places and meat was dry toward the end of the leg. Average at best. Chargrilled leeks, escabeche £14 - Escabeche was overly acidic, which overpowered the leeks Apple empanada £9 - Tasty, but £9? Really? Pastel vasco, sour cherry jam £19 - Delicious dessert, but highway robbery again at that price point

I was really excited to eat here and on balance, I’d say it didn’t quite live up to my really high expectations though I still enjoyed it. It’s a beautiful restaurant with an expansive open kitchen and the service was impeccable. The menu is large and the dishes were good but I wasn’t really blown away by anything we ordered. That said, the menu is so big that perhaps I need to come back and try other dishes. Definitely worth trying.
