Fish Bowls Are Coming to Quincy Market, Courtesy of Legal Sea Foods - Eater Boston

"Legal Sea Foods plans to capitalize on its successful foray into the fast-casual food business with an expansion of Kendall Square’s Legal Fish Bowl concept to an area that’s an epicenter of tourism in Boston. A second Legal Fish Bowl will debut in Quincy Market in early spring, with a simple yet customizable menu of seafood bowls and the brand’s signature New England clam chowder. The forthcoming Fish Bowl at Faneuil Hall Marketplace will offer a modern take on the classic Legal Sea Foods style, which has been a key player in Boston’s seafood scene for years, since the restaurant first opened in 1968. The location in Downtown Boston spans 850 square feet, featuring design work from The Moseley Group, which is based in Franklin, MA." - Dana Hatic

Google
Good portion for a single person and a nice tasting poke and ginger sesame dipping sauce. The lady was nice enough to give me a second sauce for free. Surprised that I liked the seaweed salad which I usually hate because it’s too hard but theirs was just the right amount of salty crunch. The rice was fresh and hot, unlike another reviewer’s cold hard rice. I also liked the lemon kale and grilled broccoli toppings.

Google
Don’t expect anything extraordinary - good place that will satisfy the average daily taste! I had salmon poke bowl - the meat was good enough, although the highlight was poke sauce. They do not have good list of ingredients in their original dish - so you may want to guide the chef while preparing it

Google
This food was gross, nearly inedible. I did not expect it to be cold, and the zucchini noodles were mushy and tasted old and slimy (in the hoisin salmon bowl). My husband got the poke salmon and returned it because the rice was not good nor was the salmon. His next dish, the shrimp one was also bad. We threw it away. (But we did eat the kale, avocado, and the cooked salmon was fine). Other than that- nope. Bummer too, because legal is awesome and we’ve eaten there for years.

Google
it's labstar roll. cost almost 19$. you must not pay 19box at this kind of food. must n o t

Google
A fantastic choice for fast and delicious seafood! As a picky pescatarian, I particularly enjoyed the “create your own bowl” option. Customizable to any dietary preference and offering Boston classics, this is a highly recommended eatery.

Google
Pokie in Boston who knew... this was a welcomed healthy option for me. EVERYTHING was fresh full of flavor. The price point was moderate staff were helpful, pleasant and very accommodating.

Jonathan Huster

Google
The rice was cold and hard with bits of the seasoning not mixed in making the flavor overly concentrated at some points. Fish was pretty good, but the rice just distracted from it the whole time

D J

Google
Rice was cold, hard, tasted pretty horrible. The rest were what you would expect from a mcdonald like chain for Poke. I have had poke many times in hawaii, Japan, and American chain poke, this was the worst so far.

Yelp
One of the best clam chowders I've ever had, might actually be the best! The only thing I didn't like too much was the bread bowl. Not that it was bad but not a match to the sourdough bread bowl at Boudin in San Francisco.

Yelp
Tourist trap yahhh, but the chowdaaaah is wicked ahhhhsummmm!! Winter time is less crowded. But during summaaa?......Fuggedaboutit.
google avatar

Yelp
Faneuil Hall is in the heart of Boston which makes this restaurant ideal for people looking for a quick bite while they do the tourist thing. That being said, it is a bit of a tourist trap. Prices are a little high, but the service isn't bad. The chowder was a little bland, but the bread bowl was a nice touch. We also go a cold lobster roll, which made a hearty meal. Definitely drop by here during your downtown Boston tour.

Yelp
I revisited Boston Chowda on my recent trip to Boston and liked it more than previously! The clam chowder hit the spot on a cold, snowy winter day. Service was great and the bread bowl is perfect.

Yelp
This was an AMAZING choice for my first authentic lobster roll with clam chowder!!! I walked through the hall and saw sooo many places selling lobster rolls but I decided to choose this place for whatever reason. I definitely chose RIGHT! The lobster was so fresh, the bread was so buttery, the clam chowder was delicious. I recommend going here if it's your first time at Quincy Hall!

Yelp
This joint is phenomenal. The Hot Buttered Maine Lobster Roll was so warm and soft and buttery. make sure to squeeze some lemon on there so the acid can balance out the heavy butter. SO GOOD. 10/10 The New England Clam Chowda is one of the best I've had. The consistency of the soup is not too thick or too watered down. It's just perfect. And they are generous with the amount of clam in the Chowda. I can actually taste and chew on the clams. SO GOOD.10/10 I don't recommend the Lobster Mac and Cheese. It was not that warm and also the flavor was not that good. You can barely taste the lobster in it. 2/10 The Hot Buttered Maine Lobster Roll Special is 100% worth it. There is seating upstairs, but otherwise, you eat wherever you can find the space.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
This is based off the flavor of the New England clam chowder. It was watered down and tasted like it was out of a can, unfortunately. It also tasted like several others in the hall.

Yelp
When in Boston, Faneuil Hall is a must! And when in Faneuil Hall, Boston Chowda is a must! Lines were long and busy but it keeps coming. We figured it must be good and so we decided on this stall. Love the variety of soups they have - New England Clam Chowder, Rockport Lobster Bisque, Manhattan Chowder and the regular clam chowder plus Ma's Chicken Vegetable Soup. Lobster rolls are 5oz., very satisfying with every bite. Highly recommended

Yelp
Can't go wrong with this place. Just fills your heart and the entire mall and area is just so festive you can't contain yourself!!!

Yelp
Good stall in Faneuil Hall. Hot chowder, hot lobster rolls (or cold if that's what you're into). We got those 2 things. Lobster roll was great and full of meat. Chowder needed a bit of salt and pepper, but once we got that we were in business. There are A LOT of places to choose from in this area, but this line wasn't too long and the food came out fairly quick- just 2 people working and they worked hard. Grab it and go find a spot to sit or stand in the Hall or outside. It's loud and busy. But that's part of the charm.
google avatar

Alvin T.

Yelp
This place hits during a cold fall/winter morning--but still falls into the "good, but overpriced and you can likely find better in a less touristy spot" category when considering some New England chowder/soups. Overall still a pretty good experience and a decent soup+bread bowl combo overall. Since this is Faneuil Hall, it will be very crowded to navigate and order your food, it will also be decently annoying to try to find someplace to sit, especially during peak hours. Definitely come to this place so you can say you did it--but it will likely be a one and done sort of fast casual restaurant once you look to explore Boston's food scene further.

Yelp
Walked through Quincy Market on our way back to our hotel in the Wharf and stopped at Boston Chowda. The Lobster Mac N Cheese caught my eye....they looked quite good from behind the display case...unfortunately it was inedible and a waste of money. Tossed it after two bites. Maybe these tasted good earlier in the day... We came about 8pm (close to their closing time) and it tasted so dried out and crunchy!! Like it was under a heat lamp the entire day.....total waste of money. Very evident from photos I've attached too...such a bummer.
google avatar

Nicole P.

Yelp
The lobster roll was buttery, hot, and delicious! Pretty fair price for the size too! The clam chowder was good and the one in the bread bowl was a huge serving. I wouldn't recommend the mac and cheese - it was so dry, my kids wouldn't even eat it. They get the food out to you quickly and seem well-organized. I was impressed with how fast the service was, especially because there were plenty of folks there and lots of lines. Finding seating is HARD. There is an open space for first come/first served seating and we had to scout the area out for about 20 minutes before squeezing all of us into a spot - the three kids ended up sitting and four adults stood.

Yelp
Located in Quincy Market. We tried the lobster mac and cheese and a clam chowder bread bowl. Both were great but def needed salt and the chowder could've had more herbs. You order and pay at the counter and then they work on your food. Wasn't the best chowder in the city though.

Yelp
Brief Summary: - Creamy and milky clam chowder - The bread is not sourdough - I may like this clam chowder in a bread bowl more than San Francisco's - Written by someone who doesn't eat lobster, so not sure what is a super good lobster Boston equals seafood and lobster it seems, so we ventured out online in search for some lobster rolls. On a random day at home, we hardly eat lobster, so unfortunately I don't have a preference of what is the most delicious lobster. We arrived at Quincy Market, a place it feels like an easy to eat place for tourists like me. This market is a long building stretching with food stalls of mostly seafood, sweets, and baked goods. Only one stall I saw had Chinese, no Indian restaurants. Returning to the topic, after some general searching, we narrowed our choice down to three restaurants. Our final decision on this one lied on the clam chowder. We had a feeling we won't feel full after eating one lobster, so we chose a chowder in a bread bowl. These dishes come as soon as you ordered, so there was no wait time. In the center of the building, there is a 2-story space of where you can sit and eat. We went upstairs to dine on what we got. Oddly, yes, we didn't get a lobster roll; instead we got a bowl of just lobster with a slice of lemon and a container of creamy sauce (tartar?) on the side. We didn't want to eat more than one dish with bread in it, and the star of the lobster roll was the lobster rather than the roll. This dish is served cold, like a salad. The texture of the lobster is like a crab leg, but the meat size can be compared with shrimp. It doesn't have much taste than the two mentioned (crab and shrimp), so it needs the sauce or the lemon. Personally, I preferred ponzu sauce. Overall, it wasn't an enlightenment experience, that pushed me to explore more lobster options -- one was enough. The clam chowder in a bowl was the starlight of this food experience. The bread bowl was not sourdough, and I believe this balances well with the rich and creamy clam chowder. It was also soft to tear apart with the hands, so it was easier to eat. Speaking of the chowder, this was also very good. The chowder is creamy and milky in flavor. I always felt that the San Francisco's clam chowder was on a salty end, so this was nice to eat the soup without needed to reach out for water.

Yelp
What more is there to say other than this is the best! This was one of the top places on my list to eat at when I came to Boston. Nothing made me happier than a well stuffed hot buttered lobster roll with the best tasting clam chowder in town. Wait in the line, even if it looks long. It will move fast but just be ready to order when it's your turn.

Yelp
Inside the Quincy Market building, this chowda spot also serves rolls, pot pies, and a variety of soups. Went with a large New England chowda which ran for $10 and change. It was a good thickness with a fair amount of clams. Worth a try.

Yelp
Hands down best clam chowder in Boston! I had it 18 years ago on my first trip to Boston and Boston Chiefs was at the top of my list for my visit just last week. I was worried that time may had enhanced my memory of this chowder, but it definitely had not! It was still just as delicious as I remembered. Make it a must-go if you're anywhere near Quincy Market!

Yelp
Pros: my husband ordered the lobster roll and the clam chowder. It tasted fresh and it also came out hot. Also, it was very flavorful and it hit the spot. The service was quick and the clerks were kind. Expensive but it's worth it. To note: The location is in a crowded area of the Quincy Market, so it isn't very quiet. Overall score: A+

Dennis T.

Yelp
The clam chowder was rather bland and thin. It lacks the deep rich flavor you would expect from a high quality clam chowder. If you've ever had the clam chowder from Ivars in Washington, Splash Cafe in California, or even the Boudin chains, you would be disappointed here. Price was also high for the subpar chowder. This place felt very much like a tourist trap.
google avatar

Yelp
when looking for a good lobster roll in Boston I was recommended Boston chowda! located in Quincy market, there are plenty of options for lobster rolls but we decided on this one due to the reviews. I ordered their hot lobster roll combo which comes with a warm lobster roll, Boston clam chowder, and one drink of choice. the portion was great for 2 people to share and they really load it up on the lobster. I love that they butter the roll so you get all the flavor and crispiness of it. the clam chowder was typical for me. there wasn't anything too special about it but it was still a decent tasting clam chowder. the hall is quite busy due to it being a food hall but there's plenty of seating in the center of the marker and there's an upstairs as well!

Yelp
I feel like you can't go to Quincy market without going to boston chowda. I mean the place always has a line and it never ends Ambience, typical food marketplace. The hustle and bustle is real. Long, But easy and fast lines. Service is phenomenal. Manager was upfront and gave my order quick. Food- got the classic lobsta roll and chowder. Cant. Complain. I mean the bread just melts in your mouth. Woo weeee
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
Can't go to Boston without getting some chowda! It was more liquidy than the usual chowder but it was still delicious.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Food: Don't get the hot roll. The cold roll was 100% better. Also be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for them. Each roll is $25-$30 dollars. Service: The guy who helped me was very loud and straightforward. Stereotypical guy from Boston, accent and all. Ambience: Super chaotic since it was a busier day

Yelp
Food is amazing, I'm from California and this is definitely the best lobster roll I've had so far on the east coast. Clam chowder was great. Nice and hot, was perfect. All of the guys working at the front are all so nice and friendly. Will definitely come back next time I'm here.

Yelp
Great lunch option located in the Quincy Market. Shared a cup of the Clam Chowder and Maine Lobster Mac & Cheese Pie for two. I was shocked at the large pieces of lobster in the mac & cheese and clam chowder was very rich and delicious. There is an area of seating in the middle of the market (2 levels) so seating is easy. Service is relatively quick but there can be a long line!

Bryce S.

Yelp
I came from Texas to try the chowder and lobster roll, and it was amazing. Staff were great and the place was clean!!!
google avatar

Tammy B.

Yelp
Lobster roll 9.27/10- this was so yummy, I got the hot lobster roll and I really liked how they gave big pieces of lobster. Not a fan of lobster rolls being put in a hot dog bun but they put so much butter at the bottom of the roll and with the chunks of lobster it was really good. I liked how buttery it was and it was very fresh Clam chowder 8.23/10- this was pretty good. Really no complaints but clam chowder in SF tastes the same as tjis and since this is in Boston you would think it would be awesome Lemonade 8.82/10- not overwhelmingly sweet and had the perfect sourness to it. Very authentic lemonade
google avatar

Vicki M.

Yelp
Gotta have some New England clam chowder and lobster roll when you're here! Especially after walking around outside in the cold and taking pictures next to the gigantic Christmas tree outside! I got the hot buttered Maine lobster roll and a relative got the combo with the clam chowder and drink. Lobster roll was yummy! The roll was warm buttery brioche with good chunks of lobster and sextet seasoning. Very good! Squeeze of lemon and you're good to go! Filling and tasty! Clam chowder was really good too! We found tables to stand and eat at in the rotunda. There was live music too - this lady was playing violin beautifully mostly popular contemporary songs. Service was quick and friendly! Definitely will be back!

Abigail B.

Yelp
Great experience today at Boston Chowda. The service was great at the food was to die for. Coming from NY we knew we had to try the lobster rolls, which were by far the best meals of our trip. Shout out to Arthur for being super friendly and helpful. Boston Chowda rocks!
google avatar

Conner S.

Yelp
Stopped by Boston Chowda on a Sunday and it was great! My partner and I shared a cup of their classic New England style clam chowder and an order of their lobster mac & cheese. Both were great! Chowder was creamy and had great fillings. The lobster mac & cheese had a good amount of lobster in it! There were several large chunks at the bottom of the bowl which was awesome - felt like we got our money's worth. There was a bit of a line but it moves quickly! There are communal seating options in the middle of the market and upstairs!
google avatar

Maggie L.

Yelp
Solid chowder from the food hall. $6 for a small but it's satisfyingly warm with the perfect potato cubes.
google avatar

Emi M.

Yelp
This place also another little gem inside the Hall, such delicious and flavorful chowdas! The service was very nice, the guy behind the counter was super patient as I asked a million questions, they even let you try it. I absolutely loved the customer service and patience with all the tourists, the ambiance was nice at the hall just a little rough to find a table but that was just jt. Other than that, the food was absolutely delicious!
google avatar

Angelynne Z.

Yelp
The lobster roll was kind of expensive (a whopping 38 dollars, if I remember correctly, for the combo!), but totally worth the experience of tasting the classic clam chowder and lobster of Boston. The lobster roll was packed with lobster, the bread was buttered, toasted, and super soft. They also provide you with a lemon, which gives the lobster a nice tang to it. The clam chowder was also pretty nice, but did not feature very much clam. The soup was super fresh and rich. Disregarding the price, the food was delicious!
google avatar

Jeongmin H.

Yelp
We were recommended to get the cold lobster roll over the hot roll and it was BOMBBBBB 10/10
google avatar

Amanda I.

Yelp
Hot, buttery, lobster with creamy clam chowder - can you say hello!!! This manager special hit us up for about $32 but worth the food and the ambience. The Quincy market offers a lot of different options but this is one you can't pass up. I have had other hot and cold lobster rolls and this one was so good I almost ordered another. Grab your food tray walk about 200 feet and post up at a table and devour this deliciousness.
google avatar

Justin O.

Yelp
Very mid experience; particularly for the price. Had the warm lobster roll special with clam chowder. The lobster roll had little flavor as did the chowder which even more disappointingly looked as if it had come from a can. Wanted a true Boston food experience during my brief time there and willing to pay the extra dime as a tourist trap but walked away very disappointed. Not to mention I was still hungry thereafter. No place to sit and eat your order, which I'm indifferent about but notable.
google avatar

Richille U.

Yelp
The bread bowls were approximately $13. We loooved the calm chowder and chili bowls. It was a really good amount of food. I thought it was a bit expensive but I understand you're also paying for the experience of it all. I'd still 100% recommend people try if they're in Boston.
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
Is it the best chowda? No not particularly but I am not a New England clam chowder connoisseur and I thought it did an amazing job. If you're in Quincy market there's a lot of options to choose from, this is a safe bet. The chowder is creamy, fresh and hot. It paired great with oyster crackers which weren't stale (yes that has happened to me before) and it hit the spot as a nice appetizer before lunch!
google avatar

Julyana T.

Yelp
Very good clam chowder! Lobster bisque is just eh... Skip the bread bowl, just get your soup in a cup. Lobster cocktail is fresh. The place takes either cash or physical credit card. No electronic payment.
google avatar

Steven T.

Yelp
This is up there with some of the best chowder I have ever had in my life. Lots of potato and clam chunks and the soup had a great consistency. Not too thick and not too runny. Must try when visiting Boston.
google avatar

Ferry. Beach K.

Yelp
a little too salty for my palette which I know is me. The chowder was served hot on this cold day so very satisfying , the chowder had nice pieces of potatoes and clams, and the chowder broth was tasty except for the salt.
google avatar

Spencer W.

Yelp
Got it because I had to in boston. IMO it's not great and wouldn't recommend. Overpriced for how SMALL it is (this is a medium) and taste-wise it's average. Nothing substantial stands out to me about it. Crackers are great.
google avatar

Shayla B.

Yelp
Gimme that chowda!!! That BOSTON chowda, puh-lease! When in Boston, you pretty much have to get some chowda. I'm here to tell you that Boston Chowda HAS IT! Get it and get it neeeeeoooww!!! I can still taste all of that goodness. A hearty Maine Lobsta Chowda that was so damn tasty! I was in Quincy Market trying a bunch of different foods from different food kiosks, and then I saw the line for this spot. They had pictures of their lobster rolls and soups. I didn't wanna overdue it with a lobster roll since I had already eaten a few things (the only way to do it while you're in Quincy Market), so I settled on trying their chowder since this seems to be the most popular. They have all kinds of different flavored chowders and soups. They also have all things lobster like lobster mac and cheese, lobster bisque, and lobster pie. The Maine lobster chowder is what caught my eye. The perfect way to have both worlds (lobster and chowder). The line actually moves pretty quickly here. The staff wasn't the friendliest but they kept the line moving. In a fast paced environment like Quincy Market, this is really what you want. Waited a short while for them to call my name, and when they did, I was so excited. Found a spot to sit and started chowing down. Y'all... this chowda is the real deal! It's a thick and creamy consistency with immense flavor. Also, they definitely don't skimp on the lobster meat. It was so hearty and filled with delicious lobster meat that tasted very fresh. Some of the best chowder that I've had for sure. It ain't cheap by any means (especially if you're getting a lobster roll). However, the quality is top notch and you will def get your money's worth. Now I know what they mean when they say "Boston chowda". Mm hmm, it is sooo dayum good. When in Quincy Market, you have to stop here for some deliciously hearty chowda!
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
this place was good... not great. lobster bisque felt a bit thin, kinda as if it was watered down. corn chowder was better - thick and creamy. lobster mac n cheese would've been better if it was absolutely fresh off the stove but it's clear it was left out for a bit so that detracted from how it tasted.
google avatar

Rex S.

Yelp
We had to visit the famous Quincy market, this was the very first place we visited as soon as we arrived in Boston because our train was delayed and we were getting hangry. It was obviously very touristy, a bit reminded me of fisherman's wharf in San Francisco but as a tourist I kinda liked it. Everything was pretty pricey as how it is now everywhere but again, considering it's a pretty good amount of lobster meat, I thought that plus New England clam chowder with a small drink for $35 isn't too bad. I shared it with my partner and we were both pretty happy with it. I would bring my family with me to this place again if im back in Boston but again it was a little bit pricey
google avatar

Kevin R.

Yelp
This is a food court style restaurant for easy to-go orders. There is seating in the hall, but it can get crowded so don't count on it. I loved their Lobster Chowder. It's creamy and packed with fresh lobster. My bowl sized serving had 2 big chunks of claw making it the perfect ratio of meat to soup.
google avatar

Victoria R.

Yelp
$41 for lobster on a stale roll, clam chowder, mainly potatoes, and a drink. In a place so crowded we ended up eating standing up. Waste of time and money.
google avatar

Daniela Z.

Yelp
Located in a market with different food options, seating and decent bathrooms, this is a perfect spot for anyone or group that wants to explore multiple options in one spot or wants a quick bite to eat. I knew exactly what I wanted at Boston Chowda! and it was the 1/4 lb lobster roll with clam chowder. Food came out quick, tasted fresh and was satisfying. P.S. they had good customer service :)
