Coffeehouses are sprouting up all over the place and many of these independent operations are offering a preferable alternative to the chain coffeehouses. There happens to be a newer coffeehouse located close to my house and it easily surpasses the chain coffee establishments in most every way. The place is Legends Coffee and Café.
I discovered Legends Coffee and Café some time ago but didn’t get around to paying a visit until recently. It occupies a stand- alone building and is located on one of the main streets, so it is impossible to overlook. It has its own drive- through and an outdoor patio. You recognize these things before you even step inside and based on the exterior, you feel confident that something special awaits.
Legends Coffee and Café is a cafeteria style establishment. You place your order, pay, and then take a number. They deliver your food to your table when it is ready, but they serve your drinks quickly. They serve coffee drinks, as expected, but there are more food options than I thought there would be, with a menu that encompasses breakfast, lunch, and dinner with options such as soup, salads, sandwiches, flatbread pizza, and even gelato, plus coffee drinks, tea drinks, and smoothies. I didn’t expect so many food and drink choices and it took us quite a bit of time to make up our minds.
My first Legends Coffee and Café experience included the Freebird chicken salad sandwich and herbal iced tea. It came with a side of potato chips and made for a satisfying meal. My kid ordered a bowl of soup and the King, a smoothie made with peanut butter and bananas. We both agreed that the food and drink was to our liking and we both agreed that future visits were definitely in our plans.
The food and beverages would be reason enough to visit Legends Coffee and Café but arguably the most important reason is the atmosphere. Legends is all about music and you may have already picked up on this by the names of the food and drink mentioned above. Legends likes to integrate music into the names of its menu items and the musical theme is everywhere you turn. There are guitars on the walls, paintings of famous musicians, classic album covers on display, drums used for tables, etc. The background music is classic rock and they feature live music several nights per week. What I like about the live music is that it isn’t overbearing in any way. You can still hear yourself and the people around you so there is no interference with conversation. And if you have kids, you will be happy to know that they have a small section designed for kids plus a kid’s menu, complete with small portions.
Coffeehouses are growing in number. The independent coffeehouses are easily the best and Legends Coffee and Café is easily one of the best of these establishments in the Houston area. The combination of coffee, food, and music along with the positive service and entertaining ambiance make Legends Coffee and Cafe a true legend in the making.
