"A six-minute drive up 82nd from lolani’s Plate Lunch in a food cart pod on SE 82nd, Lei’d Back is whipping up popular Hawaiian plates inspired by family recipes: huli huli chicken, kalua pork sliders, and chicken katsu — breaded chicken served with a scoop of white rice and mac salad topped with scallions. Also of note: the grilled pineapple skewer, pineapple mango slaw, Spam musubi, and island-style sweet ribs. Order pick-up or delivery on DoorDash." - Krista Garcia, Jenni Moore

Google
Best Hawaiian spot in Portland. My favorite it the chicken katsu! The macaroni salad is literally the best I've had out here in Portland. I appreciate the great size portions. Guaranteed to be full and have some left. Beautiful presentation, you can tell passion goes behind the food through sight & flavor.

Google
Impressive locally owned food cart with classic Hawaiian favorites. Really wanted to try the Spam Masubi and Island Style Sweet Ribs, however; we will DEFINITELY be back soon to try those since they just happened to sell out prior to our late afternoon arrival on our first visit. We ending up having the Kalua Pork and Huli Huli Chicken. Talk about Hawaiin Comfort Food! The owner Anna is simply wonderful and her love for cooking shines through in ALL of their food cart dishes. The attention to detail, presentation and passion for authentic Hawaiian food is simply a breath of fresh air and I can assure you that her food will not disappoint! Thank you so much, Anna, for a fabulous lunch! We will definitely be back soon to try more of your delicious food!

Google
Another great Hawaiian bbq joint. I got a loco moco but since they were out of burger patties, they supplemented it with spam. I also got a side order of Kalua pork. The Mac salad is bomb, the rice was every so slightly but barely mushy but still good, and the spam and gravy was tasty. It had a slight burnt taste however. The pork was wonderful. I spent $21 for the dish and side dish. Check out the photo:)

Every time I drive by and see the cart open I drop all of the meal plans on my cheat day and pick up from here, I would say best Max out in town With great portions for the price. This is my go to Hawaiian food spot. ( I've already eaten off this tray so trust me there's more when you order).

Ricardo D

Google
Love the food and am so happy you are open again, I've been to all the other Hawaiian food places from cart to building and they hands down have the best price for the quality of food and not to mention the Mac salad is the best in town to me. I went for a different food cart I love but saw her open and walked right by it so go get it 💯

Google
Located in the food pod across from the Eastport Shopping Center on SE 82nd in Portland. After a short wait, I ordered the Kalua Pork plate. The menu offers a number of items including Island style Sweet Ribs and Huli Huli Chicken. The plate lunch included one scoop of white rice and a scoop of macaroni salad The pork was moist and had good taste. The mac salad was creamy and had a little crunch to it. A solid lunch plate and I want to try the other menu items. Parking is very limited on the side streets of the food pod. Credit cards are accepted. A good place to stop for lunch with a number of great food options.

Google
Had the Kalua pork. So very tasty! Just when I thought it couldn't any better I put on some of the sauce they gave me and fell in love.

Google
The best Hawaiian food I’ve had in Portland! The Kalua Pig and the Huli Huli chicken were so tender and flavorful. The mac salad was delicious and the rice was cooked perfectly. It was a great deal for the price and came out fast! I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to try Hawaiian cuisine!

Jamie L.

Yelp
Owner was really friendly, food was amazing, had the katsu chicken. Definitely coming back to try other food on the menu!

Zachary R.

Yelp
Very happy to find some good Hawaiian food in this area! Definitely stop by if this is the type of food you're craving. Ordered the Spicy Shoyu Chicken and was very satisfied with the result. Food was piping hot, full of flavor and a very generous portion. It came with a lot of rice, but just to be clear there was more chicken than I could eat in a single sitting. They also included an extra sauce in my meal which I thought was very on point. I mean you gotta do something with all the left over rice and with that extra sauce you can certainly make sure it has as much flavor as you could possibly want. I'll definitely be hitting this spot up more in the future and I hope it gets the attention it deserves, cause it left me wanting more and I bet it'll do the same for you! Thanks Lei'd Back!

Yelp
Everything about this place is fantastic. I can't say enough. The owner knows what's up when it comes to Hawaiian food. She brings everything good about food trucks with her. Top of the line most uncommercialized product out there. Best Mac Salad, Kalua pork (I've tried popular spots that were way too salty) and Moco Loco in town and it really ain't close. Her brown gravy and lean burger is unmatched with the flavor that comes from her cast iron skillet. It sends your taste buds on a delicious adventure. Don't be concerned that it takes 10 15 minutes. Perfection takes time when you're cooking with fresh ingredients. Should have taken my picture before I took several bites. If you like Hawaiian food you have to check out this spot.

Russell H.

Yelp
After looking at the many food options in this truck court I decided to try the Hawaiian cuisine. I order the BBQ sliders but she was out of bread. So I had a BBQ plate with macaroni salad and slaw and a side of rice. The BBQ was good enough but the macaroni salad and the slaw was incredible! I've had my fair share of macaroni salad but this offering exceeds all expectations along with the exceptional slaw. I will be back!!

Nomad Surf C.

Yelp
Typical Hawaiin spots will substitute mac if you don't want rice. This cart was closing, trying to get the last of their food out, and charged $2 extra for all Mac. Not a good look, they made an extra $4 for the upcharge on two plates but lost a return customer.. suggest going up the road to Roxy's, super excellent spot for same price! Mahalo

Sabrina M.

Yelp
I ordered the katsu chicken. The breading kept falling off and the sauce was salty. The portions were good though

Khoa N.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I normally frequent this cart as it's one of the better ones in the area. However, after finding a BEE in my food, I don't think we'll be coming back anymore, and I definitely won't be recommending the cart to anyone else. It's not the warm sunny weather anymore as of late, the bees aren't even out during the cold. How long has that bee been sitting in the chicken?

Mark M.

Yelp
Hands down best Hawaiian food available in the Portland metro area!!! Just nothing but good things to say EVERY TIME!!! I absolutely recommend to anybody and everybody!!!

Josie N.

Yelp
Having a Hawaiian phase right now and boy did we enjoy this little gem! She really loaded up the plate and I appreciated it! The macaroni salad was very delicious and seasoned well! I love green onion and it was a perfect amount! The pork was not salty... did you hear me? Not salty! The pork was soft, seasoned perfectly and the sauce? Was gelatinous???? Usually it's either just soy sauce or sweet soy sauce??? It's almost like a broth??? I'm just truly amazed in the small things from a food truck, you can tell there's love out in. We also got some spam mash is and the black sesame pairing was nice to the spam! Really loved it and will come back for more

Lynn F.

Yelp
I wish I had taken pictures to post, this is my new favorite Hawaiian food place. The food is amazing, definitely the best in Portland. The lady who runs the cart is super nice, I wish I had known about her food sooner. I'm excited to go back!

Nancy K.

Yelp
Anna makes delicious, moist, succulent Huli Huli Chicken, along with my favorite version of mac salad - just enough mayo - and dynamite mango slaw. The amount of chicken was generous. Thumbs up! I'm looking forward to the day when ribs are back on the menu! I will be back for more!

Luc M.

Yelp
This place is pretty good. Chicken is tasty, the rice is fresh, and the sauces aren't too shabby either. The cart itself is fun and looks clean. The only reason I knocked it a star is for the Mac salad. Seemed very sour to me the more I ate it. I still ate it all though. Good balance with the rest of the meal. Bottom line: this place is good if you're on the east side and need a good Hawaiian bite!

Rob D.

Yelp
The food was incredibly tasty with generous portions! There are plenty of great food trucks at this spot but it's going to be hard to not go back here every time!

Athena T.

Yelp
The chicken was amazing! So flavorful and tender. She made the slaw to order so it was nice and crunchy. Grubhub messed up and she went above and beyond to make she we got taken care of. Good food and good service. Highly recommend!

amber g.

Yelp
Hands down the best food!! And the owners are AMAZING!!! Go check them out ya'll won't be disappointed i promise!!

Karen B.

Yelp
I placed an order at 4:25pm on a Tuesday through door dash & after waiting an hour for dinner I finally get a message saying my order was canceled due to the fact the store was closed. It shouldn't not have taken an hour for the store to let doordash know they were closed. Very disappointed especially when according to the internet they are suppose to be open till 8am Monday through Saturday. They have lost a customer. To respond to the business ..... maybe you should have correct hours on Yelp & your website .... I ordered at 4:25pm are you telling me you were not open at 4:30 on a Tuesday. DoorDash can only go off of your hours you have posted.... don't blame them for your short comings....

Christina H.

Yelp
By far the BEST Hawaiian food we've got the pleasure of enjoying here in the NW. The Mac salad is to die for! It's not only moist, but flavorful like you were on the island enjoying it. I highly recommend the sampler platter. You can have a taste of all the deliciousness they have to offer in one plate for a great price!

Rachel H.

Yelp
I was in the mood for Hawaiian and this popped up. The employee was snarky, and not very welcoming, like you would expect at most locally owned carts. I ordered the shoyu chicken and one spam musubi. $9 for the chicken, and $3 for the spam. Definitely a small portion for the chicken, and the spam was mostly rice. The chicken was tender, but needed more sauce/flavor. The Mac salad also lacked flavor, but had a good consistency. The rice was also very, very dry. Next time I want Hawaiian I'll take my business elsewhere.

Johnny L.

Yelp
Very tasty food. I haven't been here in a few months. The price is still the same, however, there seems to be less meat than before. Each Huli Huli would come with 3 pieces of chicken that were freaking huge. Now it comes with 2. I am not happy as I drove 20 min. to entertain the food here. Guess I will be crawling back to Lolani's plate lunch for their guava chicken. Why? I used to make the drive to order 2 Huli Hulis at $9 each. But since there seems to be a reduction in meat qauntity served, I will buy from a closer vender. Lolani's and they are $8 per plate made from a real Hawaiian brotha. Tsk Tsk, I really liked eating at Leid back and will probably stop by once on a blue moon for reminiscent sake but not on the regular like I did in the summer time.

Scott H.

Yelp
I have a soft spot for shoyu chicken. It's gotta mix in too with the rice and the mac salad. In fact usually when I get it I just stir everything all together. Some people think it's gross but I don't care. Love their shoyu chicken. It's sweet and salty and so tender. Not a ton of connective tissue either. I hate that when places leave all that sinew in there. The mac salad is perfectly creamy with some good flavor like a good Hawaiian mac should. If it wasn't so far away I'd come all the time. However the purpose of a food cart pod is to try different things. How am I supposed to pass this up now.

Carrie K.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing as usual the fresh made masubi a extra treat! More than enough food to feed us dinner and breakfast. Anna you have nailed it as usual! A must-try for Hawaiian food in the Southeast area.

Joel L.

Yelp
Super delicious food, awesome serving sizes keep me and my gf coming back for more! Everything we have ever had there has hit the spot.

David P.

Yelp
Purchase food for a gathering of 20 people and could have fed at least 50 people. They gave us brand new bottles of hot chilli sauce to go with the meats as well as loads of extra teriyaki sauces (both hot & mild). Wonderful people to work with. Was able to contact them through their FB page as well as phone.

CRAIG N.

Yelp
I gotta call you guys out on your SPAM Musubi. I mean really it should be called rice Musubi. Too much rice!!! I also had the honey Siracha Shoyu, bland and a little too much ginger (but that's personal preference). Mac salad was good, rice was done correctly. But I had to laugh at the Musubi! Would I come back? Probably not. Which is too bad because the number of Hawaiian food places is growing in the area but the selection is poor.

Shawna W.

Yelp
I had the huli huli chicken! So good...meat was juicy not dry. That Mac salad was perfect and the way I like it (no vinegar or too much onion.). A lot of food for what you pay! I only wished they had Hawaiian sun drinks. All they had was coke and water. I will be back!

Easton L.

Yelp
For the price , I was very satisfied. The chicken was very good, the rice was good and the Mac salad was good. Portion size was good enough. I love the fact that 2/3 of my plate was all chicken. The stand looks clean and the lady working on 5/31 was very sweet. Thank you guys

Cynthia X.

Yelp
This is probably the worst short-ribs I have ever eaten. I spent $12 for short-ribs that were mostly burnt and had no flavor at all. The rice was extremely undercooked and was literally crunchy. I was hopeful with the mac salad, but was disappointed again with the lack of flavor. It just tasted like bland mayo. They're just a little too Lei'd back on the cooking side. I would not recommend this food truck. Spend your money on edible food.

Bryan G.

Yelp
This cart is a frustrating disappoint. If you're in the mood for Hawaiian and don't want to drive all over down, they can take care of you. There are however, a few catches. I've tried all the cool dishes and found them tasty. The meat was always cooked well and never was the meat dry. The flavors are a tad bland, but tolerable. I didn't care for the mac, hard to put my finger on exactly what it was but it just tastes a little bit off. Customer service the few times I've been has always been bad. I've waited at the window while the sole employee there chattered away on his cell phone for ten minutes. I left and went somewhere else. The same thing happened again a few weeks later. Ford is delivered slow and they often room out items Overall, would I recommend it? Probably not. Decent food and bad service make it hard to return.

Kimberly C.

Yelp
Should've listened to my gut and went to a different cart. I was intrigued by the photo of the loco moco, so I ordered it. Waited about almost 20 minutes after being told it would take about 10. If I'd known it was going to take this long I would've purchased food elsewhere; I was on lunch and didn't have time to eat once my food was done. My dish looked nothing like the photo they advertised and I couldn't believe it took nearly 20 minutes to make. Bummer!

Show Me What You Got B.

Yelp
Normally this place is great.....however not today. I won't be back if the same person is in the cart. Ordered the Hulu Hulu chicken, it was just boiled chicken, no seasoning, no sauce, nothing. So I bring back and am told "that's how it always is". Uhh no it's not, I eat here weekly and I've never seen it like this. I'm offered something else, ok sounds good. I get the Kalua pork instead. Go in and reveal the pork....nothing at all on it! I move the pork around and there's a hideous amount of clear oil just slopping around in the bottom of the container. Taste test...slightly seasoned but still not the norm. Meat was so oily and wet but no flavor. Even the Mac salad, which I LOVE, was bland, squishy, and just not good. Tossed the food rather than going back to the argumentative attendant inside. Maybe it was a bad day for the cart.

Gustavo S.

Yelp
This might be one of my new favorite places. Some of the best Hawaiian food I've had easily the best food cart in happy Vally. Always a good eat never disappoints very good customer service quick and good if you're in the area you definitely need to pull up!

Logan L.

Yelp
Had the huli huli chicken, it was bland, barely warm and the side of rice/mac salad were sub par. Definitely not worth the $9. Seemed like the food i was given had just been sitting there based on how fast it came out. Definitely avoid.

Cassandra A.

Yelp
I recently tried Hawaiian food at another establishment and discovered I'm in love with Hawaiian Mac salad. So of course I was jazzed you find a place so close to me to try. While their Mac salad is okay (hit the spot, but wasn't quite as good as the other place), their Huli Huli chicken was divine. Portion sizes are huge, one order is absolutely enough for two meals (hello tomorrow's lunch!) and overall I would absolutely return and am happy to have a place close I can count on.

Skyler P.

Yelp
I stoped by the Happy Valley station for a quick father daughter lunch. I'd never been there before. As I was looking around a couple of gals from this Hawaiian food cart were the first to greet us even though it was the last cart we walked by. Awesome attitude from the employees. Judging by what I've read on yelp, they either must own the cart or be new to working there. They were happy to let us try a few things before we ordered and we ended up sharing a plate of huli-huli Chicken, Hawaiian mac, and rice. For $10, the service was great and the food was good. The good food and the smile they put on my little girl's face earned 5 stars from me on this one.

Megan C.

Yelp
I ordered their loco moco and it was so good!! The portions are large so you might need to share if you're not too hungry. The beef patty cooked just right, the gravy had a little spicy kick to it, and the mac salad was YUM. It also comes with rice. Altogether with a drink, it was only $10. Definitely coming back!

Pat D.

Yelp
I was a loyal customer for the past couple years, but the food and service quality have gone way down over the past 3-4 visits I've made. Tonight was the topper with the chicken being completely burned and dried out. It was too tough to eat, so I asked that it be replaced. The server just said "sorry we're out of chicken". That was it and no refund. I wasted $10 on bad food and then watch other customers complain about the food quality. What a bummer! The place used to be really good, but I won't waste my money there again...

Jose R.

Yelp
It appears they're under new ownership and the menu isn't up to date. We hadn't been there in awhile but seems to have lost something other than a few menus items. We were craving it but won't be anymore. Lady was nice and service prompt but at 6pm they were out of several things but ultimately the food was just average.

Miquel M.

Yelp
tasty wise it's pretty on point. but the rice to spam ratio for the price is way off. For a $3 spam masubi I expected more spam or at least something else, but not a brick of rice.

J R.

Yelp
Where to begin... Ordered: Huli Huli Chicken Short Ribs Kalua Pig Mango Slaw Chicken: Even though they were thighs, they were super over cooked (think dry and stiff), which is easy to do with chicken breasts, but thighs are way more forgiving... Decent flavor, but then again Teriyaki sauce is hard to screw up. Short Ribs: Super disappointed, short ribs are one of my fave items. Flavor wise they seemed doused with the same sauce as chicken, unfortunately i couldn't eat any of them as one of the strips was just the bones, the rest were dry like beef jerky, and most disappointingly charred/burnt. Ended up throwing the whole thing away as it was like chewing on a piece of charcoal. Kalua Pig: Out of everything it was probably the most "edible" from the bunch... It was on the salty side, but overall OK. Mango Slaw: It was interesting... Could use a little more seasoning, and less watery consistency. Another bigger issue that i saw with food was... Mac Salad: Mushy/overcooked pasta... Biggest issue/concern is that it was WARM... Being in a food cart all day, and if not refrigerated, all i could think of was Food Poisoning... So I passed on eating any of it, good luck to you if you chose to eat it. I've worked in the kitchen industry in the past, and can tell that the grilled protein was previously cooked thoroughly and triple killed again before being "served". Yes, cooking the items to order may take bit longer, but is it about quality of food, of how fast you can shove plates out the window??? Just saying...

Tim L.

Yelp
I know there are things going on these days but it wouldn't be too hard to update Facebook or Instagram if you're going to be closed at 5 pm on a Thursday. We had heard great things and drove out of our way to find you only to find the place shut with the business hours on the sign whited out. So we got food from your neighbors. Probably won't make the trip back. If you don't know when you're open, we can't either.

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
The best Hawaiian food I've had in Portland! The Kalua Pig and the Huli Huli chicken were so tender and flavorful. The mac salad was delicious and the rice was cooked perfectly. It was a great deal for the price and came out fast! I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to try Hawaiian cuisine!

Michelle A.

Yelp
Don't waste your time. The guy who runs this cart is rude ALL of the time. I am a regular at the HV food carts and I have tried it on 3 separate occasions and each time he acts like I am an inconvenience. The last time I went I had a gift certificate, he said "I don't want to take this, I only like to honor 2 certificates a day". Not sure how that was my problem. Anyhow, the food is mediocre. The mac salad is over cooked and no flavor. They don't have any Hawaiian sauces to top your meat with, just a few bottles of typical hot sauce. The meat is average, but the snarky guy makes your experience so bad that it's hard to give this place even a 2.

S B.

Yelp
One of my go-to's when I need a Hawaiian dish. Kalua pork plate with a side of rice and Hawaiian mac. Outdoor/indoor heating with a clean environment. Many other options as well but I haven't tried them yet.

Nik S.

Yelp
Great food & Great atmosphere! 808 style. The Huli Huli Chicken was fantastic. We will be back.

Shannon W.

Yelp
Had a great experience meeting Brad and Anna today. We had to try a bit of everything and I don't think I could even try to pick a favorite entree. I consider myself a short rib expert and theirs did not disappoint! Kalua Pork was spot on, not to sweet but plenty on tang. Loved the Mac Salad, let's be honest that's everyone's favorite part of Hawaiian food. This place is a great reason to head out to Clackamas.

Brandon M.

Yelp
For some reason or another I can't get the old lady who works there to cook me anything, I've been turned down the past 6 times I've been there trying to buy loco moco, and last night I asked if i could get kahula pork instead and she told me only chicken products today... I see them turn down more people then serve so I'm not sure how they are even making money... why is it so hard to get what you want from this place?

Emily B.

Yelp
We've enjoyed the food at this cart over the past 3 years, but today's experience soured all of that. The woman working there this evening greeted my husband and I with, "I'm out for 10," which we both took as, "I will start serving in 10 minutes." I came back 10 minutes later and waited while this same woman puttered around inside the cart for a couple of minutes. She then said, "Hi," and I approached to order food. She immediately followed up with, "I have nothing but kahlua pork, which is what I said 10 minutes ago!" All I could do was say, "Okay," and walk away. Despite loving the food at this cart, I won't ever be back.

Merna R.

Yelp
Soooo glad I found these guys again!! The huli huli chicken us a MUST! LOVE the slaw and talk about generous portions!! Kind of a bummer not to have the fancy covered building but LOVE the flexibility they now have with their menu at the new location! I usually get mine to go anyway. Friendliest staff you will ever meet and the slaw and mac alone are worth a double order! Bring on the daily specials I'm ready for more culinary delights! Mahalo!

Heather B.

Yelp
My husband and I had a bad experience last time we were here. I am happy to say that after meeting the owner and giving this business another shot I can confidently say, "I'll be back!!" The food was delicious!!

Michelle Pearl G.

Yelp
The Huli Huli chicken is legit, it's well marinated and grilled to juicy perfection. I usually always grab this dish as my daughter loves it and it takes home well, cause you know, I always get late night munchies for 4th meal. We've been here over 10 times and the ONLY time we were let down is when they cut the Huli chicken into smaller strips, which meant they got over cooked and dried out. Every other time they've been full pieces and seriously delicious/cooked perfect.
