Lei's Poke Stop is our favorite place to get Poke in Anchorage. After living in Hawaii and having the real thing, we've found it's hard to find the real thing here.
When you walk in, the place is very obviously a former frozen yogurt shop that's been converted. There isn't a lot of seating, mostly a long bench and a couple tables along the wall. It's super clean and spotless. There's also some Hawaiian snacks you can purchase including li hing mui and macadamia nut snacks.
The poke is NOT ready made. This is the one beef I have with the shop--at the same time, it ensures that you can also get exactly what you want every time. The biggest downside to the poke not being readymade is that it doesn't get to marinate in the soy sauce like poke in Hawaii so it's not quite as flavorful as it could be, hence my 4-star rating. The plus side is that you can customize your poke however you want including adding extra types of fish, onions, cucumber, spiciness, etc.
I do think it's strange that the Shoyu Poke doesn't naturally come with minced garlic in it as everything in Hawaii has tons of garlic in it--so you have to pay extra for that. I would also like if they would give more furikake (rice seasoning) or have an option to buy a generous side of it. My favorite is the ahi tuna shoyu poke with extra cucumbers, garlic, and extra onions.
Despite these negatives I've listed, the food is still really good and the fish is always a nice healthy red, never old tuna. We have eaten here multiple times and would continue to! It's a little pricy so in my opinion it's better to just buy a pound of poke and make your own rice at home, rather than getting a combo.
