It was a very disappointing experience. We were planning to celebrate my friend’s birthday and had booked a table in advance. However, when we arrived on time, it turned out that there was no space inside the restaurant because they were hosting a corporate event.
We were offered a table outside, right next to the entrance, even though it was below 5°C. It was freezing, and clearly not a place where you can enjoy a proper dinner. So we had to leave. Since it was a Saturday evening, most other restaurants were fully booked as well, and the celebration was ruined.
What made the situation even worse is that no one apologized. Did the staff really not know about the upcoming corporate event beforehand? There was no information on the website or anywhere else warning guests that they might be forced to sit outside in the winter.
I could understand if this were a simple pub and we only wanted a beer — that’s perfectly fine to have outside. But how do you expect guests to enjoy a main course or a dessert in their coats, freezing, or for someone to sit in an evening dress when their fingers are literally going numb from the cold?
In the end, the staff didn’t bother apologizing — but we did receive an email later saying they hope to see us again. Seriously?
