How Ann Ahmed Is Paving a New Path for Southeast Asian Food in the Twin Cities - Eater Twin Cities

"Lemongrass was Ann Ahmed's first restaurant, opened when she was 25. Located in Brooklyn Park, it was initially presented as a Thai restaurant to appeal to the local demographic, who often mistook it for a Chinese restaurant. The early days were challenging, with no official menu, music from a boombox, and family helping out. Despite these challenges, it laid the foundation for Ahmed's culinary career." - Jon Cheng

Service was a little slow when we were there, but we understood our server was also tending bar. She was apologetic and did her very best, which we appreciated. She made great drinks. The food is always good. We love the basil chicken wings, basil calamari, Chang Mai Alley noodles, and tilapia curry (curry on the side to keep the fish crispy). But you can never go wrong with anything you order here. The drinks are very tasty and pretty too. One of my favorites is their tamarind cocktail.

Sounds like this location is closing down soon and they are moving to downtown Minneapolis under a new name. It was our first time here. The service was great. We sat at the bar since the place was booked with reservations. Their drinks were really good, the bartender knew what he was doing for sure. We ordered the must have basil wings, which was definitely worth it. We also had the pork egg rolls, which were really good as well. With the two apps, we only had room to share an entra. We ordered the Garlic Chicken. It came out hot and fresh with a side of white rice. Overall, it tasted great, but it did have a distinct smokey flavor which we were not expecting. Overall, we would definitely go back, but will have to go to their new location in Minneapolis.

Heard great things about this place so thought to make the trek up to try some good ole chicken pad thai. It's saucy, cooked well and has a ton of chicken. Definitely slightly more on the sweeter side, haven't had it this sweet before. We also had the drunken noodles which were very fragrant. The triangles were a delicious appetizer. Decided to give the fried plantains a try and they definitely delivered! Overall great service too. A little dimmer on lighting which made it harder to read the menu.

It has great ambiance and wonderful staff. Server was very kind and understanding. Food was good (could have been best). Egg rolls was delicious. There are really no vegetarian options. Menu is misleading as most of their food is cooked in fish oil or shrimp paste. This restaurant isn’t necessarily for vegetarian folks. I give credit to server who has gone out of her way to provide food which meets our dietary needs. She brought separate list for us. This four stars for her and her only. We ended up having food prepared differently. We were expecting spicy food however it was all sweet (ended up putting peppers on it). Quality was overall good. It would be good idea for restaurants to write all ingredients in the menu for dietary or allergies reasons.

Most recent review from March 2021: 2 stars This place was so good and we used to like it a lot but our careless and rude server spoiled it for us. The food still tastes decent but I would hate to get the service we received last time we were there. And then he had the nerve to tell his colleagues watch this when he gave me the bill, as he anticipated something that he didn’t get from me - which was anger. He had an attitude, got the order wrong first and then got the bill wrong, continually chatting and taking forever to serve us, we basically waited and requested other served for help. Eventually I walked over for our check. He already knew what he had done - essentially not done his job, so he wasn’t expecting a tip, hence decided to take this attitude while handing me the check. Absolutely not appreciated and unwarranted. Hope he learns his manners!! First review from 2020: 4 stars Great place for a quick Thai munch. The restaurants looks nice and the service is great. It’s not quite fine dining but great for family dinner or a a casual date night. The cocktails seem very expensive for the size quantity and taste. The menu was decent and priced slightly higher than comparable places. Our food tasted decent with distinct flavours. Good chef!

Lemon grass Thai was a quick pick for me after hearing so many good things about it. We made a last minute call and went to this place and was luckily enough to get a table at 8pm. This place needs reservations for sure as it’s fully occupied. Ambiance is good and they maintained the place well and neat. The service was quick and fast. We tried different dishes and loved the flavors they have and enjoyed the food. I thought the cocktails could have been better but it’s more of a good place so it’s all good. Chicken wings with basil crunch was amazing and it’s a must to try it out. Tom yum soup was spot on and it has all flavors in it. Thai fried rice and drunken noodles were delicious too. The only thing we did not like is veg gyoza which we ordered for ppl who don’t eat pork, we would have loved pork gyoza. Overall this place has amazing food and it’s must visit place for all Thai lover as Chicken wings with basil, fire crunch - 5/5 Tom yum soup - 5/5 Crispy fried rice - 4.5/5 Thai fried rice - 4/5 Drunken noodles - 5/5 Veg gyoza - 3/5 Cocktails - 3/5

Pretty good Thai, sushi is more "Americanized" the med spice level not very spicy, try hot if you want a little bit. Drinks where great, staff nice and polite, they did forget my daughter's food until I said something, more of a 3.5. the fried calamari big but chewy, fried shrimp egg roll 100%, my fried Thai rice, no egg. Stir fry very good per my dinner party (family) 3.5 out of 5

The place is great for a date or a nice dinner... the food is pretty decent. I love their sexy papaya salad... and their raw laab is pretty good. I like mines sour and spicy. The chicken wings was awesome. The noodles was decent.
