Find the Best Thai Take Out in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"The suburban restaurant’s differentiator is its sushi menu, along with a couple other nods to Japanese cuisine like the octopus salad and tuna tataki appetizer. But, the Thai dishes are what chef Ann Ahmed built her robust reputation upon with layers of complex flavor. When life returns to normal, don’t skip the beautiful cocktails, until then, kits arrive November 25th." - Alex Lodner

Dined in with my sister at 1:20 on a Wednesday. Walking in Nobody in the restaurant besides the workers. Based on other reviews I was expecting a lot worse as far as the atmosphere. Not dingy or uninviting and neither were the staff. It felt warm and very humble. Clean and well kept. No bugs or rodents as others have mentioned. The menu prices online are not up to date but it is still very affordable and you’re not walking away with a pit in your stomach because of the cost. You can try several dishes for the same price as one at other places (at least for lunch menu. I’m assuming they have a separate dinner menu they put out later). I uploaded lunch menu photos. (7/15/25) We ordered the pineapple fried rice (spice level 3) and the massaman curry with steamed rice (spice 8). Food came out in a timely manner. I’m used to Thai curry being served in a bowl separately from the rice but it was served side by side on a plate. The portions were typical Thai portions. I’d say perfect for the average person definitely not a sharing size. As others have mentioned, their spice levels are very mild. The 3 spice was non existent and the 8 had a slight kick, a good choice.. I would’ve called it a 5 on an American scale. The pineapple fried rice tasted better the longer it sat. I think Thai leftovers are always better than fresh. I expected it to be more sweet. It was good. The curry was good, though I wish it had a little more depth of flavor. The steamed Rice that came with the curry, I’d say a bit overcooked. I’ll be honest, Thai isn’t my favorite cuisine but Lemon grass was just as good as any other Thai restaurant I’ve been to. With these prices I’ll definitely be back and I’m excited to try more.

Google
Pad Thai, very good. So much at a great price I couldn’t eat it all. Looking forward to my lunch tomorrow. Picture, is of what I could not finish.

Google
This is one of those places that’s totally unassuming and unexpected. I’ve never had a bad meal here. I stay in the area for work when I’m in town and I always make it a point to stop here. Huge servings. Delicious. And shockingly cheap, especially for lunch. You aren’t gonna get the extra frills like you would at a five star restaurant, but you will get consistently delicious food.

Google
Top tier Thai restaurant in Cincinnati, with the best Singapore noodles I have had anywhere… The deep flavor profiles hit you with rich, elegant subtlety. I know spring rolls seem blasé but they elevate it with thin, crispy layers that are decadent and they truly take pride in what they put out. Whenever I am anywhere in the vicinity I have to stop in. Much respect and appreciation for what they bring to the table. 🫶🏻

Google
Staying at the hotel so walked down to this place for dinner. Sketchy building but pretty nice inside, though there were some bugs. Reasonable prices. Went with pad Thai and the lemongrass soup. Soup was flavorful and had just the right amount of veggies. Pad Thai noodles cooked properly, a bit heavy on the sprouts, sauce lacked salt or acid and was slightly bland. The chicken was overcooked and had a strange after taste - I actually didn't eat all of the chicken pieces.

Google
Came in while visiting from Texas. We had a large group including family that are locals and love this place. After eating here I can definitely see why! Our food was perfect! We tried the chicken coconut soup, Panang curry with chicken, yellow curry with chicken, massaman curry with beef, paht see ew with chicken and the Rad Nar with chicken. Everything was cooked to perfection and everyone left happy and full. The service was quick, and thorough. We went later in the evening when they weren’t too busy. It is a little small but that made it feel more intimate than it did cramped. Next time we are in town we will definitely be stopping in for another meal!

Google
I try to only write positive reviews. This restaurant has ok food but they are not very kind. This place wasn't busy. Three tables of patrons. Sat and waited over 10 minutes. Never approached. I had to get someone's attention. They could care less. Bathroom is dirty. Ordering was incredibly difficult as the waiter could recommend nothing. He didn't seem to know the menu. Food came out fast, but my drink never came. I had to remind the server. Asking for extra sauces seemed to annoy the server. Food is very good, I thought maybe I should have just ordered and taken it back to my hotel, but I could hear a pick-up customer complaining about getting the wrong order. No one bothered to see how I was doing the entire meal. They could care less. Unfortunately, cannot recommend this place.

Google
I was in the mood for noodle soup so I got chicken noodle soup that was off the menu. We also got 7 elements (beef) and cashew chicken. The soup was ok, not a lot of depth of flavor but they accommodated me off the menu so I appreciated the effort. The beef and chicken dishes were really good. We also got sticky rice and mango. The sticky rice is different from what I was used to in Bangkok. The sticky rice was mashed together and the coconut milk was heated. It was still yummy. The service was good. The spice level was pretty mild. I got an 8 on a 10 pt scale and it was not very spicy. The prices were also reasonable. I would come back again.

Yelp
Called to place takeout order. Wasn't too busy when I went. Looked ok inside. Got the pad Thai and pad see ew. Spice level ranges from 1-10. Decent food.

Sasha K.

Yelp
Super easy to call and order takeout. The spice levels range from 1-10. I got chicken pad Thai which was delicious and level 7 which tasted as I would expect. I also ordered the red curry with chicken. This was just okay, felt like it was missing something. The downside to the curry was how it was packaged. Instead of a plastic container to limit spillage, it was in a styrofoam container that had 3 compartments. 2 compartments had rice and the third bigger compartment had the curry. This spilled and mixed with some of the rice as I drove home. Normally rice and curries are packed separately to avoid this. Would definitely recommend changing how curries are given in takeout. Overall the enjoyed the food and found it to be very reasonably priced for lunch. I'd go back again!

Yelp
In a neighborhood with about six Thai restaurants, this one has been here the longest so it's easy to forget about it. It's not as flashy or new as the others, but the people are friendly, the food is less expensive, and it's good. What more could you want? They have a large menu and all of your favorites are on it. The entrees are big enough to be two meals. We started with the gold bags as an appetizer and they were delicious. They do a brisk carry out buisness as well. The dining room is not fancy, but it's serviceable and I'd rather not pay more for fancy decor. This spot had kind of dropped off our radar, but I'd glad we went and it's now back in the rotation.

Yelp
Wow Cincinnati! Getting it in with the great food scene! I love the ambience of lemongrass and they have a bar menu which is great. The service is quick and efficient. The food though, good golly is the food great. I got larb and panang curry with beef. *chef's kiss* get you some

Lexi G.

Yelp
Best Thai food in Cincinnati, quick service and consistent in quality. Also fairly priced for the portion of food you get. Hidden gem!
google avatar

Lilee N.

Yelp
Love this little gem of a restaurant. It's no frills but the food is consistently good. We ordered take out and noodle dishes were portioned well for two people. Fast service, reliable, and easy location for pick up. Highly recommend the pad Thai and the pad see ew. Parking is curbside but easy to find.

Yelp
I've had a hard time finding a good Thai restaurant in Cincinnati. I ordered takeout and the food was ready when I got there. Unfortunately, they were out of duck. The coconut chicken soup was a little too sweet and could use some more lemongrass. There was not much chicken in the soup either. The pad see ew was delicious and the medium spice was a little spicier than expected. I would not get shrimp next time as it was overcooked and mushy.

Yelp
If you like Thai food that is fresh, flavorful and reasonably priced for everyday dining, try Hyde Park's Lemon Grass. Co-owner William greets regulars by name whether they dine-in or carry-out. The dining room is simple, unpretentious and brightly-lit, and the menu features the Thai standards you'd expect, all well-prepared. There are a lot of vegetarian options including our favorites: Swimming Angel Tofu and Crispy Basil Mock Duck. The kitchen is willing to accommodate special requests. Beer and wine options are modest. On our most recent visit, we enjoyed our meal so much, I wasn't able to get a picture until we finished!

Linda R.

Yelp
The somewhat run-down appearance of the outside should not keep you from eating the delicious food at this friendly restaurant. Having moved back to Cincy after a few decades we were pleased to see this old favorite still in operation - and found them still serving some of the best Thai food in Greater Cincinnati!

Yelp
We live in West Chester and usually have Thai someplace here, but we were at Joseph Beth Bookstore for a book signing and wanted to try a place near Rookwood. Lemon Grass did not disappoint! We ordered Pad Thai (called Paht Thai here) because that is our standard order to gauge how good a Thai place is. We also ordered Chicken Thai Spicy. When we got home we were delighted with the portion size and the flavor of both dishes. The Paht Thai was perfectly executed, and the amount of vegetables to chicken in the Thai Spicy was what I like. We ordered a 4/10 spice level and it was perfect for us. Will definitely order again when down in that area.

Yelp
Decent, no-frills Thai food with plenty of vegan options. I came here with an appetite seeing as they had lots of vegetarian and indeed vegan options. I ordered their vegetable clear soup with soft tofu ($4.50) and carrot & cabbage spicy salad with peanuts ($5.50) to start. The soup was bland but pleasant enough, coming cabbage, pea pods and mushrooms. Nothing special here, but pleasant enough -- 3/5. The salad was spicy and somewhat sweet, with a nice dressing to coat the fresh, crunchy cabbage and carrots. This was solid -- 4/5. For my main, I got the Penang curry with tofu ($10.95), served with steamed rice. The curry itself was nicely rich and flavoured, but the only thing it came with was 4 pieces of broccoli and soft tofu. C'mon guys -- you can do better than that. Put some more veggies in there, like bell peppers you would usually see. The curry flavour was very nice, so I was happy with that, but let down by the subpar contents of it. 3.5/5 Good meal overall, but it could easily be improved.

Yelp
This place is delicious! It's a hidden gem! I love the old school decor and ambiance. This was the best Thai food I've ever had! We were the only ones in there some how lol and our food came out incredibly fast and was super fresh! Will definitely go back!!

Yelp
After craving Thai food, I decided to search for spots around Cincy. I came across Lemon Grass which had pretty good reviews. While the service was speedy and friendly, I found the food disappointing and bland. I've tried a number of Thai restaurants across the United States and the Pad Thai at Lemon Grass did not taste similar to the others. I was left disappointed and unsatisfied. It could have just been this one experience so I may give them a chance in the future or try a different dish on their menu.

Jully N.

Yelp
Not really a good place if you really want to taste thai authentic food. I'm from Tx (asian) & our thai food is beyond delicious & this place was disappointed, but the service was ok. The dishes came out bland and unseasoned. If you are a spice enjoyer, I recommend aiming for the highest level offered (10). My family and I chose 7 (because thai cuisine is usually spicy), and it tasted like it had no spice at all.
google avatar

Tatianna S.

Yelp
Lemon Grass is adorable. A small, comforting, and quiet restaurant. I order the chicken satay and a salad. The chicken satay was great! I'm craving it right now actually. The salad was good as well, and decently filling. I was asked what spice level from 1-10. I said 3, thinking that was a good level. I was also confused how they would make my salad spicy. Let me tell you, wow, it had a kick. Next time I'll probably say 1 or 2. So beware! Overall, cute place.

Yelp
They accepted a large group order, which was so pleasing! The staff was very kind and seemed really happy to serve. They have amazing lunch prices!!! I enjoy the choice of white, brown, or fried rice. I tried the green curry and was underwhelmed, although others liked it. The jungle curry, however, was much more flavorful and something I'd order again. A 7/10, I didn't find very spice so if you want a hint of spice order up!!
google avatar

Ramesh B.

Yelp
We picked up lunch here on a weekday. The device was prompt. I got egg rolls with chicken fried rice, 8 stars. It was not as spicy as I would have liked but it was very flavorful. A totally unassuming place. Will surely be back when in the area.

Deborah M.

Yelp
Some of the food I've ate in the area. Small business but service has been the greatest. I believe the gentleman that's waits on you is the owner.
google avatar

Shane M.

Yelp
The food at lemon grass is possibly the best Thai I've ever had and it comes at such a reasonable price. The store is a little mom and pop feel and it's not corporate or chain-y feeling. We always do pickup, can't go wrong. Pot stickers, Thai Basil, and Paht See Ew are our favorites!
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
Great food! I am a big fan of pad see ew, and lemongrass has one of the best versions of it in the area. Also try the lemongrass soup!
google avatar

Sara C.

Yelp
We absolutely love Lemon Grass!! Portions are big, not over priced and the service is just as good! Beat Thai food around!

Andrew K.

Yelp
Family favorite for us. Been going to lemongrass for more than a decade. The quality of the ingredients and the consistency keep us coming back. I highly recommend the Pik Pow and Jungle curry.

Jason C.

Yelp
Best Thai food in the city. Everything we've had has been good to great. I recommend the spicy green beans with chicken.
google avatar

W W.

Yelp
Sad to say this is second experience in two months after many years of love which is less than satisfactory. Panang curry was extremely watery with two pieces of broccoli and no heft or thickness for which this curry is known. Monk's curry last time was similarly disappointing. Noodle dishes save the day but shouldn't have to. I want to support this local business but don't know what else to try as vegetarian to pull it out.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Very good family run Thai restaurant. One of the best I've been to at that price point. Always good service.
google avatar

Alexx E.

Yelp
Pretty good but I've been to better places . Very light seasoning almost no flavor. I would try it again.
google avatar

Maria J.

Yelp
My favorite Thai restaurant! This place doesn't get enough credit. The food is always hot and fresh. They make the noodles in house and it's absolutely wonderful. I really hope they stick around because it's absolutely delicious!!
google avatar

Chris D.

Yelp
A staple of the community for decades, I'm pleased to say they still have that "thing". Great service and absolutely wonderful food, well prepared and spiced to perfection.
google avatar

Emily W.

Yelp
Don't get the takeout chicken pad Thai. It was actually flavorless. So dry. I don't know if I've ever been more heartbroken by a delivery order, when I expected so much more. The soup was good. And I loved the fried rice last time I was in, so that's the only reason I'm giving more than one star. I would go again and eat in, but would literally never get takeout from here if I had any other options.
google avatar

Yelp
A quaint little Thai spot just around the corner from Rookwood. On my last visit I had no trouble finding parking on the street and it was after 6PM, so no fee for the meter. I was greeted amiably and seated immediately after entering the dining room. The service was prompt and friendly. As seems standard for all my visits to Thai restaurants, I ordered the Chicken Paht Thai, the staple by which I judge my favorite Thai places. I ate my entire meal, as it was by no means a bad one. However, I have had a better version of this dish at a few other Thai spots in the city. There are many types of curry available as well. If I were to go back, I would probably try a different dish.
google avatar

Nisha L.

Yelp
My partner and I ordered by phone and our order was prepared in time. He got pad ki mao and I got the masaman curry, both with medium spice. The spice level was essentially nonexistent when eating both dishes, but particularly with the masaman curry. Please keep this in mind when you order. Thai cuisine is my favorite, but I was a disappointed after taking a bite from my dish. The potatoes were not fully cooked and there was minimal flavor aside from the coconut in the curry. In all the masaman curry i've had, this was honestly my least favorite. My partner said his dish was "nothing special, just average." if it was properly spiced, it probably would've been a 4 star meal. extra note: we are indian, and we are used to ordering medium spice at immigrant owned restaurants. i probably should have said hot spice level instead :/
google avatar

Karen B.

Yelp
Love this small, unassuming spot. Really flavorful food, I usually get the chicken delight. Very casual inside with great service but I've also been ordering delivery with covid.
google avatar

L J.

Yelp
Good, fast and fresh! Haven't had a dish I didn't like. I plan to try everything on the menu.
google avatar

Tim R.

Yelp
We get Thai frequently and really enjoy the flavors as well as the spice. Maybe we were not heard, but when you ask for "hot" (not Thai hot) and get back to the hotel to find our 3 meals, $45 worth, is prepared mild to the point of "about as spicey as WonderBread" you don't want to bring it back and you don't want to eat it. So you work out your disappointment with a negative review on Yelp. Ugh!
google avatar

Sandra F.

Yelp
Paht See Ew and Cashew Chicken are hands down the best dishes on the menu. I'm really picky when it come to Thai food and this place really hits the spot. Very small and intimate. Restaurant clean. Staff very fast and friendly. The only thing I do not like about the restaurant is the location. It is on the busiest road in Hyde Park/Norwood area (On Madison). Parking is very limited and street parking is very hard to find at times.

Ronja H.

Yelp
DO NOT EAT HERE!!! Pretty much I just pulled a roach leg out of my mouth while eating their Pad Thai.. Absolutely disgusting.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
They have the best fried rice I've ever had! Wonderful Portion size and it's packed with the right amount of flavor.

Leah B.

Yelp
One of our friends recommended Lemon Grass so we decided to try it. My husband and I were blown away with not only how good the food is, but also how affordable! We both agreed it was the best Thai we've ever had. We plan on going regularly now because it's so affordable!

Howie B.

Yelp
Hole in the wall place with very good food and good service. Been there seemingly forever. Reasonable prices, comfortable seating. Affordable. Excellent lunch specials especially if you want a light meal. Terrible parking situation on street, hampered by construction and parking meters that don't clearly align with spaces.

Taliyah T.

Yelp
This restaurant has the best selection of Thai cuisine that I have had the opportunity to try. From great customer service to tasty food, this place has never disappointed my expectations. I can't wait to come back here again and have a great meal.
google avatar

Susie Q.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing restaurant!! Cannot stress this enough! The best pad Thai I've ever had and whether you're sensitive to spice or a spice fiend they alter it to your preference perfectly! A large variety of options as well. And the cherry on top: service was impeccable! Cannot say enough good things about this place! Highly recommend!!!!
google avatar

Beth M.

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite Thai in the city! I enjoy their food so much. When I am in need of comfort food, this is my go to place.
google avatar

Andi W.

Yelp
Yum! Small little hole in the wall kind of place. Super chill vibe! Excellent pricing. I had the lemongrass soup and a spring roll for an appetizer. I loved the soup! For my entrée I had the Singapore noodle. Tons of flavor lots of veggies and the chicken was good and tender. The service was excellent! I can't wait to eat here again.

Olivia F.

Yelp
First time trying this place, got take out. Food was delicious BUT I had mad diarrhea within half an hour. My roommate didn't have diarrhea but still had an upset stomach and was gassy. And it's not cuz I can't handle spicy, I have definitely handled and enjoyed spicier. I really wish I liked it, truly. And I don't see any other comment of anyone else not feeling well, so maybe it was a fluke, idk ‍ but it's a no for me.
google avatar

Hannah T.

Yelp
Because I really like and trust the friend that recommended, I am willing to give this place another chance and will update accordingly, BUT as it stands, this place is about 2.5 stars. I got the crispy Pahd Thai at a spice level of 3. It wasn't exactly what I would call crispy (but I did get carry out so the steam in the box during travel could have been what ruined it -- no stars deducted for that). But the taste was over-all just average to below average. It wasn't spicy AT ALL (my mom could have eaten it, and she think bbq sauce is too spicy). It was also sweet. And not like a natural sweetness -- ALMOST to syrupy sweet, but slightly different. Finally, I got the dish with tofu (as I'm trying to be vegetarian) and it had little bits of chicken in it -- probably from a twice-used pan (twice-using a pan doesn't bother me -- no stars deducted). Since I'm also the world's WORST vegetarian I didn't care, but for someone that for religious or ethical reasons doesn't eat meat, that could be a huge issue.
google avatar

Karl K.

Yelp
My favorite Thai place. A mainstay of the Hyde Park neighborhood. Can there be Thai comfort food? Yeah. Pot stickers, lemon grass soup, garlic chicken with brown rice. Sign me up. A must go place. Super neighborhoody.
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
I've had good meals from this spot, but this last batch of takeout is going to be our last. Green curry that has no flavor but what appears to be added food coloring? No thank you.
google avatar

Paige M.

Yelp
Two words: Mango Curry. Four words: Ten kinds of soup. Are you on your way to Lemon Grass yet? My mouth is watering recounting this culinary adventure! For starters, we ordered the Gold Bags. I had no idea what this was, but with a name that awesome, how could I not try it? They were actually pretty similar to crab ragoon, except they contained shrimp and crab, no cream cheese. Served up with a side if sweet sauce, these crispy apps were delicious. Next, I had the coconut vegetable soup. A gigantic bowl arrived with spiral carrots, baby corn, mushrooms, pea pods, and other delightful veggies. The coconut broth was seasoned with cilantro, my favorite herb, and made for an all-around 5-star soup. For my main, I had the mango curry with fried tofu. A platter boat came out with the bright orange, creamy mango sauce, garnished with a variety of veg, including those awesome baby corns. Served up with a side of fluffy white rice, I kept eating this massive amount of curry until I was bursting at the seams. Lemon Grass definitely gives you your money's worth for portions. While I was enthralled with the meal, I had to knock off a star because we had reservations, but for some reason, one of the staff members had cancelled it without our consent. We were left waiting 15 minutes for a table to open up. Parking for Lemon Grass is pretty tricky, as street spaces are limited. There is a lot that customers can use by Busken, but you'll have to play Frogger crossing the traffic on Madison Road. Price per person: $20.00

Yelp
I had pretty high expectations of Lemon Grass before I went as my last Thai experience was at this amazing place in Harvard Square. The food was good, but didn't live up to the expectations I had and the food I had a hankering for. However, they still deserve a good review because I enjoyed my meal! The waitress serving us was great, she was very attentive and very sweet. One of the people with me has a taste for spicy things and he ordered the 10 out of a 10 scale of spiciness. The waitress joked about a regular customer she had that ordered a 75 in spice and now orders a 50 because it was too much! So if you really like spice, the 10 may even be too little and they'll let you go higher! I had a wonderful lemon grass soup that had a great perfectly spiced broth. I wish I could describe the flavor but it was something I never had before. The lemon grass was only a highlight. Then I had to be typical and order the pad thai. However on the menu it was spelled paht thai. I had never seen that before. It was good but I've had better. I really like my pad thai to be sweet and peanutty. This lacked a little of the sweetness and had more of a savory flavor. Overall, it was an enjoyable evening. I washed everything down with a REALLY good Thai iced tea.
