I came after seeing this on a list of "must see" places in Jackson and the article was correct. This bookstore is amazing. Friendly employees, well organized. If you come in on the first floor, I saw no elevator, the best bet is to drive around and go in from the outside. Reasonable prices. I would spend all my money here if I could.

Beautiful well appointed bookstore. Everything you could want or ask for. Staff was super helpful and friendly and the selection was amazing. Nice little reading nooks and a great number of signed first edition books. Very cool spot worth a stop.

No one should EVER put their hands on a child, especially not a stranger in what we thought was a non threatening book store. Up to this point I have never written a negative review of a business, because nothing ever warranted it. The older woman with dark brown short hair, glasses, and a permanent frown secured on her face should not be allowed to work around children. We were in the children’s section of the store for no more that 2 minutes, my child was running in the CHILDREN’S area for .5 seconds when she abruptly and aggressively grabbed his arm, got in his face, and told him to “stop it right now, there’s no running in this store”. I’m still in shock. Would have loved to come back, but I will warn every other parent of a 3 year old who loves books that this is not a welcoming or even safe place for your child.

This bookstore radiates coziness, with each unique space inviting exploration. The staff are gracious, enhancing the ambiance. Comfortable seating invites longer stays, and the thoughtful addition of reading glasses for purchase underscores the store's attentiveness to reader needs.

Google
One of the coolest bookstores I've visited. They have an endless number of signed first editions from a long list of authors, including premium binding limited print run signed first editions as well. Most recent signed books are regular retail prices. The older and more rare ones can get up there. This will be a regular visit for me when visiting nearby family. Finally, the employees were very very helpful and took their time to show me around, answer questions, and even tried to find a hard to find book for me. Excellent!

What an incredible gem. Even if you're just passing through, take the time to stop here for sure! Wander through, peruse some books, and find some great and unique gifts for loved ones (or enemies 🤷‍♂️) This place is definitely worth your time! Something for everyone in here.

I agree with another reviewer’s post (Katie). The bookstore has a good selection and a very inviting set up that makes you want to take your time. However, the attitude of at least one employee during my time on March 29 around 17:30 was enough to dissuade me from returning. In fact, I’m shocked the lady had enough in her to check me out as I thought it might require more energy than she could exert. The other employees were also just there, sitting in the center. It was a completely different vibe than when I came for a visit two years ago. Rudely informing customers that the wifi was not for the public was also bizarre, but also - ma’am, it’s a bookstore. Really not a great impression for myself or my friends visiting from out of town. I hope that the cause of this shift can be sorted because there’s so much potential for this bookstore to further grow.

Yelp
Always a great experience! Normally staffed to the max which is absolutely wonderful this day and age. Rosa was super helpful and will now be my, "go to" book seller when I stop by. Whether you're local or traveling, If you love a great book shop that's private owned, this magical spot will make you happy!

Yelp
So this is your typical bookstore. Nothing fancy but they try real hard to make it feel fancy. Go to books a million, it's cheaper and it's the same thing.

Yelp
It's local, independent, and they have all the books. What more do you need to know??!?! Support them so fabulous little bookstores like this do not become a thing of the past.

Yelp
It was my first time ordering from Lemuria Bookstore and I am overall very pleased with my first order. I was searching for signed copies of Midnight Sun and it was sold out almost everywhere. I stumbled upon this book store when a fan posted a link to this book store that had the First edition signed copies. The order process was easy and the book was shipped the next day, with tracking. When I opened the package, I was surprised by how well they packaged my book, and that were no marks or other damages on it despite its long-distance travel to my house. The bubble wrap and wrapping paper of the book were packaged extremely well. I was most pleased with the lamination of the book's book jacket! I've seen other fans' signed books from other places and they arrived without lamination or a "signed copy" sticker in the front of the book cover. The book was in pristine condition and I also liked how they included a bookmark from their bookstore. My friend also bought a copy of the signed edition from their store and loved the wonderful condition of her book. I am definitely ordering from this bookstore in the near future and I just want to say thank you to everyone in this local independent bookstore for taking care of the books they receive and sell, I really appreciate it. Thank you! :)

Yelp
One of the best book stores I have ever seen. Seriously, in Mississippi. Absolutely gorgeous. My friend brought me here after having breakfast at the bakery downstairs, Broad Street Baking Company, and I was blown away by the selection. Books to the ceiling! There are several rooms to explore, and each genre is nicely represented. There was a book by a Russian author that my friend and I thought that they wouldn't have. The children's area is a large, fun decorated room, and there is even an area full of rare first edition books. Local authors are nicely represented as well. The employees were very helpful and very excited to talk about books and give you information about children's story times, local authors, and rare books. The rest of the building has cute interesting shops and the bakery is great. Totally check this place out when in Jackson.

Yelp
Lemuria is a beautiful escape from the rest of the world! They have a diverse selection of books and a wonderful children's room. It's a great bookstore to buy gifts. The staff is always helpful and personable. I encourage everyone to support Lemuria!

Yelp
a very cute book store, compartmentalized and corky. you will lose track of time reading different books in here or even just looking at books in general. very unique atmosphere but kind of disappointed in their civil rights section along with afro futurism/black sci-fi. super cute book store though

Yelp
Philosophy, metaphysics, Buddhism, poetry, classics, travel, cooking, art, southern writing, foreign fiction; huge sections in each. Lots of nice places to sit, including a couple big comfy sofas. Loved this place. Thank you.

Yelp
I've lived in Jackson for several years now and just went into Lemuria yesterday (I'm almost ashamed to say) - I got lost in the beauty of this store! I took my lunch break to hang out and found my way to the Rock & Roll section. So I took a seat on a beautiful antique green couch and read up on Keith Richards. It was a nice time. Kind of felt like I was in a modern day scene of Harry Potter, honestly. Like going book shopping in here is like going Nimbus 2000 shopping.

Yelp
First things first, I'm an avid reader and a lover of books. I probably go through 2-3 books a week on a good week! It can end up being an expensive habit so I try and get most of my books from the library, but whenever I want to own a book or find a new release or something rare, I *always* turn to Lemuria. Lemuria truly is Jackson's bookstore. Located in the lovely and light-filled Banner Hall off I-55, Lemuria is a quaint and friendly haven for bibliophiles like myself. Is anyone immune to the charms of a bookstore? Probably not. Lemuria is separated into several different rooms, with the books separated by genre. There's a kids section, a historical nonfiction, self-help, art, poetry, travel, etc. You name it--- they've got it. I've rarely not been able to find the book I've been able to find the book I'm looking for but if that's the case, just talk to a staff member and they can likely order it for you or help you find it! The staff here is incredible. They're knowledgable but not snobby. Everyone is so friendly and willing to help you out or just chat about lit. It's so refreshing! Lemuria also very often hosts literary events, from book signings to readings. Tons of fantastic authors come through Jackson all the time, and THIS is where they stop. Be sure to keep up with Lemuria's social calendar so you don't miss any great events. My suggestion for a really, really great afternoon? Head to Broadstreet Bakery, located just below Lemuria, and grab a delicious coffee before heading upstairs to peruse the shelves for an hour or two. You're destined to find a new favorite read. Enjoy!

Yelp
Great bookstore. Was nervous when we pulled up to the shopping center and then heaven! The book selection is amazing and the clerks were fantastic. Left loaded with books to Urban Foxes, a local coffee shop/bakery where we could sit and read all our finds.

Yelp
Watch out, They tack on fees without telling you. If you go to an event and buy their books, they'll round up your bill without your knowledge -- you'll find out later like I did if you just look at your receipt. The place itself is decent overall, but not sure how much all that matters when they're taking extra cash out of countless pockets. It adds up for them. But doesn't make any sense.

Yelp
That little book store around the corner is a great way to describe this literary mecca. If you ever want the feel of Mississippi writers to pull inspiration as a writer, I would suggest going to this book store. It is a book lovers ideal shop. The feel of the place puts you in a headspace that this is where real authors would want their books displayed. In a tech savvy world- this charming Mississippi jewel remains as an authentic small bookstore. I can't imagine any Mississippi writer that cannot be found on the shelves. Authors who come through the city often choose this book store because it still carries a bit of the spirit, charm, and the soul that captures readers. You can't find that in mega book stores or downloading it on a tablet.

Yelp
Great selection of recent and older books. I lost myself as I went row by row. Worth stopping in Jackson just to see this.

Yelp
This bookstore is the true definition of magical! The entire space is stuffed from wall to wall and ceiling to floor with BOOKS! I mean it smells like a fresh turn of a page in your new book! There's a huge hand holding a book above the entrance and a huge quote by Eudora Welty sharing her love of books/reading. There are several small nooks inside packed with different genres of books. The kids section is soooo inviting, I spend a lot of time there every time I visit. There are antique sofas and chairs spread throughout for comfortable book adoration & a soulful variety of background music to match. The books can range in prices, some compare to other sites and others are cheaper. I definitely check before I buy. What they don't have they will offer to order and send to you as an option. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They are book enthusiast to the core, most of them sharing they are lit/ English majors in school. At checkout they will offer to wrap a book at any point in the year, which I find so awesome especially for budding book lovers (kiddos). I always prepare to spend a day here and dress accordingly, browse time is real! The bathroom is clean, although it's a little closet...there's some awesome customer graffiti in there. Make a point to visit if you adore books...I always feel like Belle in Beasts library, it's that great!

Yelp
If you like books and bookstores, DO NOT pass this place by. Spectacular selections and very knowledgeable people.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this bookstore today thanks to a generic Google search. I stepped inside and PURE MAGIC! A real bookstore with friendly, helpful, fellow reader-store associates. Before I knew it, I'd spent hours exploring each of the nooks and in the comfy velvet booth. Shop small at Lemur!

Yelp
1 of my fave spots in Jax. Days when I want to b alone and my fave place to visit with out of town guests. Staff is always welcoming and most importantly knowledgeable. The few times I think they are stumped on a request they go the xtra mile to help me find whatever I may be looking for. Always lots of signed copies in stock too - ya don't find that at big box stores.

Vicki M.

Yelp
This store is an absolute treasure. A destination point. A legend. Sheer bibliophile heaven. Cannot recommend highly enough

Yelp
A must visit if you are in Jackson. I am a self proclaimed book junkie and I'm always thrilled to find an independent bookstore. Lemuria is the best in Jackson, if not the entire state of Mississippi. From floor to ceiling, they are packed with books. I promise if you go, you'll find something. If I could live in this store, I would.

Yelp
My wife and I are moving to Jackson MS soon. While we were shopping for a house, we took a break between viewings to look for bookstore. We found a gem. The size and selection were perfect, the staff was kind and professional, and the availability of signed first editions of John Grisham novels was remarkable. Jackson is going to be a nice place to call home because of amenities such as this.

Erin E.

Yelp
It was a wonderful find for last minute Christmas gifts. The employee in the children's area helped me pick out about five books for my great nieces. Then they gift wrapped for free! If I lived in MS, I would frequent this bookstore often.

Yelp
One of the Greatest things in Mississippi -- Lemuria - the service is the standout and the selection and the live author events -- i tell the people exactly what i am looking for and they usually have it - or they offer a good option - or they order it call me and help me- they are also very kind to the local community especially stray dogs and so on - Literature, funny books and good selection of inexpensive wonderful hard to find books

Yelp
Though it can be pricey (as most independent bookstores are), Lemuria is a wonderful store and worth visiting even to just hang around and read for a few hours. The employees are always great and ready to help, and the atmosphere is wonderful for someone who needs a break from life or just to read. The bookstore has a certain European-style to it as well, full of nooks and crannies for the bookworm introvert to snuggle into. To anyone who is an avid book reader or lover of atmospheric stores in general, I highly recommend it.

TreAnna B.

Yelp
This is how a bookstore should be set up! I can always find something to buy and find it hard to walk out without a new book in my hand. I love the smell and the look of the entire store. It is organized and easy to find anything. And even if you can't the employees will gladly find it for you--even if it isn't in the store! Lemuria is by far one of my favorite places on Earth

Yelp
Lemuria is THE bookstore bar none. Comfy quarters, knowledgeable staff and books, books, books!

Allyson S.

Yelp
Love their First Editions Club...I have a growing collection of great reads that are signed first edition hard copies. Staff are friendly and incredibly helpful, and I receive the books in the mail (after an alert email in case I want to change anything). The books arrived nicely packaged, wrapped in throwback brown paper and bubble wrap.
