Very nice experience, went in with no expectations, and we were all handily won over. Delicious food all around, excellent value as well. My only regret was not asking for a little more sauce while eating my meat, but our server did bring some out so I managed to finish the fries. Like a classy frites sauce. I have a new favourite sauce for steaks to try and recreate until my next trip back. This was a lucky find, not tourist central it seems, well worth it.

It’s in the center of old town. The staff was great and patient. It’s famous for steak and fries. Strongly recommend going for the prefix deal. With an additional $14 Canadian dollars you get salad, tea/coffee, and dessert. The steak was tender and the fries were crispy. A 5oz one was enough for me.

We were thankful to be accommodated on a busy Friday night for our party of five. We started with a basket of bread and butter. The kids’ menu was simple, and the kids actually finished their pasta with tomato and meat sauce—so that’s a win! I had a salad topped with shredded duck, which turned out to be a surprisingly good combo. We also tried the entrecôte set menu, which included soup, salad, a 9 oz steak, profiteroles, and coffee or tea. Overall, we enjoyed our family meal, but there’s definitely room for improvement. Some suggestions: offering freshly baked bread would elevate the start of the meal. Presentation could also be a bit nicer—everyone takes photos of their food these days! The soup was great, but the salad dressing from the set menu wasn’t very tasty. The steak, however, was cooked perfectly—we ordered both medium and medium rare, and we’d definitely go with medium rare next time. It came with fries, which unfortunately had no seasoning at all. Just plain fries, which felt like a missed opportunity. The dessert of two profiteroles with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup was a nice way to end the meal. Coffee and tea were included, but the coffee tasted burnt—like the end of the pot. I didn’t bother asking for a replacement since the overall experience was still pleasant. Service was exceptional - busy night but very attentive to our needs.

Google
Wonderful food, perfect service. Enjoyed our time here. Great combination of soup, salad, steak with fries, and dessert with coffee for just over 40$.

Google
This is an indeed restaurant beyond expectation! The food is authentic parisien style and the price is amazingly affordable considering the food style. You can get a main dish served with starter, a dessert and a coffee. The dessert at $3 is a big surprise!what else you can get at this price ? love the crème brûlée ! I will mark this restaurant as must go every time I come to Quebec City!

I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re a picky eater like me. I only ended up here because the restaurant I originally planned to visit was closed, and this one was nearby and convenient. It was my last day in Quebec, and up until this point, I’d had nothing but amazing food. Unfortunately, this place broke that streak. Honestly, it reminded me of eating at Applebee’s back in the U.S.—a place I never go. A gentleman greeted me and seated me in the center of the dining area, even though there was a perfect table for two by the window that was available. He greeted me in French, and I responded with “Hello.” I had the feeling he didn’t appreciate that. As I sat there, I realized this restaurant catered more to locals. The server seemed busy, and I had to wait quite a while for both her and my food. The meal was underwhelming. I ordered a set course, and the soup was the only thing I truly enjoyed. The main was duck poutine with a pile of French fries, which were soggy and overcooked. The dessert was disappointing too—frozen éclairs. The coffee was bitter and tasted burnt; I couldn’t even finish it. The bathroom is completely filled with the pungent smell of harsh chemicals and has an industrial appearance.

Google
Great place and food. Desert was a profiteroles with cream and chocolate. Delicious. The waiter was very gentle and nice, he seamed overloaded with to many tasks (my observation?

Google
The food was well-made and the portions were also great. This restaurant is almost exactly like one I was in Zurich. The service was long and they made mistakes here and there. It might have been an off date for them. I still highly recommend it.

Yelp
Nice ambience. Really nice restaurant in old Quebec City. The food was great and well crafted and taste was also good. I persorally found it a little expensive but it's an experience.

Yelp

Yelp
Was in Quebec City visiting so had to try this famous restaurant. I will say the steak wasn't the best but overall enjoyed the meal and had a good experience. The vegetable soup appetizer they give you was my favorite thing.

Yelp
Located in the heart of Old Quebec, I came here to partake in the pre fixe lunch. The interior is cute and cozy. I dined at the bar, which worked out because I was right by an outlet and I needed to charge my phone. My meal included complimentary bread, soup of the day, 5 oz steak, chocolate profiteroles, as well as coffee. All this for only 24 Canadian dollars. The soup was cream of chicken, but didn't actually have any chicken pieces in it. The soup was creamy and nicely seasoned. Steak was served with a delicious, savory yellowish sauce, and a ton of French fries (which I wasn't expecting, but was very happy about). The steak was perfectly cooked, tender, well seasoned, and juicy. The fries were delightfully crispy, very addicting, and had true potato taste. Dessert of Profiteroles were covered in a richly sweet chocolate sauce, and sprinkled with almond shavings on top. The puff pastry, vanilla ice cream, chocolate, and nuts came together beautifully, making for mouthwatering bites. I enjoyed the coffee as well, which was quite strong and served with a side of milk, along with adorable little cubes of sugar, which was just the right amount to add. Service was wonderful. The staff were welcoming and on top of everything. This was one of my favorite meals of the trip!

Yelp
Wonderful classic French bistro with a curated menu, excellent service, and cozy bustling atmosphere. Lovely place for visitors and locals to relax and enjoy perfectly prepared steak, poutine, and confit duck, among many other special dishes. Approachable, authentic, and delicious with strong attention to detail.

Yelp
The service is great, and the ambiance is cozy, but the food is just so-so. I was very underwhelmed and also disappointed, given the price point. The salad didn't have much beyond lettuce, some walnuts and a drizzle of dressing, the steak was underseasoned and the only dish we truly enjoyed was the profiteroles dessert. Can't say I think it was worth the money we spent on this meal...

Yelp
Very cute Parisian restaurant in Quebec City. The food and atmosphere were perfect! Definitely recommend making reservations as they were busy on a Tuesday night.

Yelp
Had a fab dinner here last week! The ambiance is lovely, and the service even better! We enjoyed our ribs with french fries, we ate every bite. The soup and salad were excellent, and the profiteroles were delightful. I would strongly recommend this restaurant for a terrific meal!

Yelp
Sophisticated dining area with a delicious meal. The steak was cooked to perfection and while I was unsure about the sauce and got it on the side it was soo good! I didn't have a reservation but it was a slower night and they sat me quick and were kind! I love the ambiance of this restaurant very intimate but lively.

Yelp
I was looking for a solid lunch spot with more protein, and stumbled here. I got the lunch special with the 7oz steak and fries- it was really good. The meat was tender, fries were small and hot, sauce was good, and the gratuit French bread was fresh and warm. It comes with a salad and a small dessert. If you are looking for a little nice steak lunch, I would stop here. Service was excellent, fast and prompt. Ambiance was perfect- I had the 2 seater by the window

Yelp
Loved the warm duck salad, served with a bread basket. Everything tasted so fresh and it was a huge portion. I had a $10 mojito and marveled at the price. We ate outdoors and liked that we weren't totally sitting on the street, with a buffer between our table and the tables on the street. We had a very short wait-less than 5 minutes-and didn't feel rushed. Service was pleasant. Our water was refilled repeatedly-attentive. Would definitely return!

Yelp
I came to L'Entrecôte Saint-Jean for dinner a while ago. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere and service was nice. I had a glass of Le Petits Cailloux from Quebec, and the Evening Table D'Hote, which included Soup of the Day, Green Salad with Walnuts, Entrecote Saint-Jean (Steak) and matchstick French Fries cooked in peanut oil, Profiteroles with Chocolate, and Coffee/Tea. The wine was fruity (acidic with a tint of sweetness) and not too dry. The mushroom soup of the day was rich in mushroom flavour, had quite a bit of mushroom in there, slightly too salty and was overall comforting. The salad was fresh with tasty walnuts and the sauce compliments the vegetables as the vegetables were a bit tasteless. The steak was a decent cut cooked to medium rare with a nice BBQ crust on the outside, didn't have a strong flavour, but it was okay as the buttery sauce made up for that. The chocolate profiteroles and tea were very good and were a nice finish for the meal. Overall, I'd give it 8.5/10

Yelp
***** The Entrecôte Saint-Jean is exactly what I expected and it did not disappoint. A classic French steakhouse with the "secret sauce". I made reservations in advance, arrived early and was quickly seated at a large table by the window. The service was wonderful, friendly, efficient. I ordered the Table d'Hôte which is a set menu that includes your steak (140g/195g/255g) soup of the day, green salad with walnuts, matchstick fries, chocolate profiteroles and coffee or tea. I ordered the 255g blue and it came out perfectly cooked. The fries were perfect and the 'secret sauce' was the 'secret sauce'. The soup of the day was cauliflower, the salad was fresh and the profiteroles were great. A perfect finish to the meal. If you like steak and fries this should be a stop for you.

Yelp
Great lunch. I had the 5oz steak with fries and a pop. It was really good, I loved the sauce and you can ask for more free of charge. Fries were plenty as I saw from the table beside me so I only asked for half which they accommodated. They provided a bread basket with butter while waiting for your food which I think was a good addition. Service was friendly and attentive. The profiteroles looked good but I was too full to order. They have English menu. Lunch options seem cheaper.

Yelp
First time in Quebec City and we found this eatery amongst all the many selections of Old Quebec, and we're happy we found it. The service was great. The greeting, service and attention made you believe they really appreciate your attendance. The steak and fries were delicious with its special mustard sauce. The cocktails were well crafted, as we sat at the bar and saw the pride the bartender put into each drink-- we had a white wine sangria ( which was huge ) with our meal. I had the 5oz steak with fries, soup, salad, desert and coffee prix fixe for only $41CDN. Steak was to my perfect chosen temperature. All this said, and even though the food was great, I took the time to write a review because of how welcome we felt and the food vibe we received. I'd visit again.

Yelp
Best meal I have had in years. Felt like I was back in France. Food was all delicious. We enjoyed our course meal and wine. Kids were happy with their food too.

Yelp
Delicious food..great service. Visiting this beautiful city and went there two nights in a row. The ambiance is relaxed and the staff makes the extra effort to make your experience memorable. I tried speaking my limited French the first night and the waiter was very helpful ...but he spoke English as well. I ordered the Chef's salmon entree with fresh veggies and rice the first night and the salmon special the second night with dried tomatoes...both great! Deliciousness! My sister ordered the Auvergnate Salad the first night and the Poutine with entrecôte the second night. Both delicious! Highly recommended!

Myriam B.

Yelp
We loved this restaurant. The menu includes soup, salad, main dish and dessert for a reasonable price. All was delicious and French fries are made in house. We ended up going twice in our 3 day trip.

Maria C.

Yelp
The food took over an hour to come out. When it finally did everyone thought it was good. Mussels were excellent, fresh and delicate. Poutine with steak was good. Appetizer salmon over mashed potatoes was on the dry side but good. I did not care for the nonalcoholic white wine. Bring your own wine.
google avatar

Yelp
Prompt and friendly service, a wonderful atmosphere, and a delicious 5oz sirloin, albeit the fries could've been a bit more flavorful. Price-wise, about the same if not a tad cheaper than most of old Quebec, which helped.
google avatar

Corey F.

Yelp
This was a highlight on my trip to Quebec City, PreCovid (Feb 2020). It has amazing atmosphere and is a great place for a romantic evening. The wine was great. The fries were really good. The steak was decent but not mind blowing. Maybe a little over cooked. The desert didn't impress me. I'd give it a much higher rating if the prices weren't so steep. This place is pretty pricey. The atmosphere matches the price, the food doesn't.
google avatar

Ariana A.

Yelp
In the words of Simon Cowell, it's a no from me. A shame because the Paris, London and NY locations I've visited were all 5 star experiences. The two stars are for the server, who was as pleasant as can be.
google avatar

Enrique G.

Yelp
Excellent service, even better food! I did like everything about this place, specially the way they are so experienced about the entrecôtes and their sauce, mmmm makes it a perfect pairing for a perfect dinner.

Olivia D.

Yelp
During my time in Old Quebec, I found that it's hard to find good food in the city. Most places to eat in the busy part of the town are tourist traps. This place was fairly good. Much better than other restaurants nearby and a good option for a nice dinner. Nice ambiance, but the steak was a little chewy and our waiter was standoffish.
google avatar

Armin C.

Yelp
So everything about this place was hitting my comfort zone. It a little noisy without being a dull roar. Lit but not bright. Service was great. Attentive and quick. The food was excellent. The cauliflower soup was spread the bread around the bowl good. The steak was above average. Not great but got the job done. The ribs are the prize here. So moist and delicious. Some of the best I've ever had. Dessert was even good.
google avatar

Todd B.

Yelp
Pro-tip: Make a reservation or arrive early to enjoy long dinner. Be sure to indicate if it is a birthday or anniversary. Taste: 5* Value: 4* Ambience: 4* Service: 5* Celebrated a birthday dinner here while in Quebec. Enjoyed the entrecôte dinner. Serve with soup, salad, steak, dessert and a drink. While still pricey, the food was good. The service was great and it was a very enjoyable dinner. I would return.
google avatar

Tim M.

Yelp
Great food at a great price. Had steak frites two nights in a row. Good beer selection too.
google avatar

Reza F.

Yelp
We had just arrived in Quebec and saw a few tables that had just opened up. We asked to be seated and the hostess told us to wait while she set up the tables. She was not rude but also not interested in being nice or courteous. I'm guessing this is a busy tourist restaurant. The staff are efficiently trying to get everyone served and the tables turned. The food is very good. The location is amazing. I had the poutine avec entrecôte. When in Rome .... It was very good.
google avatar

Terrence C.

Yelp
Simple menu with excellent service. A great steak, and a great meal. Would definitely eat her again.
google avatar

Vera L.

Yelp
Nice ambiance to the place, suited the old Town charm. Food was decent. Service was good. Seemed to be a little confusion over who was responsible for our table. Once determined, the service was good. Overall was a good experience.

LeeAnna H.

Yelp
The service, atmosphere and food were amazing. We all had their signature meal...steak, frites and sauce. I have a gluten allergy and my entire meal was gluten free. It was fantastic! Thank you!!
google avatar

Sally Z.

Yelp
we had the traditional entrecôte steak with crispy fries and special sauce. We also tried the ribs tender and falling off the bone. Finally got to try the poutine fries which are french fries, cheese curds , and their special sauce not the traditional gravy. Simple small menu friendly service good food.

Tricia W.

Yelp
Great French food and vibe. Service was great in English and in French. Love the Greek salad.
google avatar

Steve H.

Yelp
Excellence food, I really enjoyed the duck confit. The rib is very good. We really enjoyed the chicken mousse. Highly recommend this restaurant. You better make a reservation if you can, otherwise come when peak hours are over. The price is very reasonable compared with other places in the same area.
google avatar

Trisha M.

Yelp
We ate here on our first night in Quebec City and it was sooo delicious! We both had the cream of onion soup to start. The waiter accidentally ordered us salads too and gave them to us (a welcomed and tasty incident). We both had the steak frites and shared a bottle of wine and a lava cake for dessert. So tasty! Still thinking of it. Would definitely recommend, and reservations seem to be a must!
google avatar

Pauline T.

Yelp
Delicious steaks, salmon and chicken entrees. Sangrias were delicious. Our server was so attentive, helpful with questions and overall made our meal a delight.
google avatar

Eric C.

Yelp
We made reservations via Yelp and were sure glad we did! Quebec's rue saint Jean gets pretty packed and people were scrambling to find tables along the busy street. We both had the duck leg. Wish it came with another side besides fries. Kinda takes away from the fancy feast of it with fries. We had two bottles of Rose from France ($38 each bottle). The waiter was very attentive and repeatedly refilled our glasses. Probably thinking we were alcoholic Americans.. there was only two of us hah. But he was attentive and didnt mind speaking english. Decent restaurant to try but not a must.
google avatar

Martha F.

Yelp
Food was not good. Our first waitress was sweet, then her shift ended and the person who took over was not friendly at all. Ketchup was in packets, as was the butter. The bread was from a grocery store. The sangria was watered down and not tasty. The steak had a weird sauce, which neither one of us enjoyed. Wish we had not listened to the positive Yelp reviews. We spent too much money on a bad meal and missed out on the many other options we could have tried on our first night in this beautiful city.

Masa H.

Yelp
Our large party of 8 adults and 6 teens were looking for an early dinner spot as we toured the city. Got seated outside in a group of 3 tables, which was a little warm given the summer weather but awesome for people watching along the busy Rue St Jean. The steak frites was delicious, I'm not exactly sure what's in the sauce but it was good! I will say my medium rare steak was closer to rare but I didn't mind.
google avatar

Lori K.

Yelp
I insisted my mom get the steak frites. She was reluctant because she's a prime rib lady. She loved every bite and especially Brandon, the waiter, who is super pleasant and was just the right amount of flirty with her. I had the croque monsieur and it Was good, but I think folks come for the steak. OH, my dessert was Fabulous! Acute isosceles slabs of rich brownie, almost like flourless chocolate cake, a la mode. Outstanding & big enough to share, but I declined to do that. (Yes, this was after the profiteroles. Now you know me ) Mom got some v. frozen chocolate mocha layered ice cream thing she said was ok.
google avatar

Stephanie T.

Yelp
Stopped by here for lunch and I gotta say that they have the best soup of the day! The soup of the day for the day I went was butternut squash (there's some bacon bits in there) and it's one of the best.

Linda N.

Yelp
Excellent food and outstanding service. The only disappointment was they did not have the duck legs confit. I had the pâté appetizer and the server suggested the duck salad. Both were delicious and there was lots of duck on the salad. I also had their famous sugar pie which is delectable but very sweet. Most of the other patrons were having the steak frite which was a special that night. It was a small steak (just the right size) with a huge mound of fries. I enjoyed my meal and would go back if I ever visited Quebec City again.
google avatar

Mitzi W.

Yelp
Recommended by our Uber driver. The restaurant was very quaint. They had a lunch menu of steak and salads. Ordered the 7oz steak and the duck salad. Salad was very good with a generous amount of duck. Steak was tender but not much flavor. Not sure the purpose of the gravy but they didn't have much flavor either. Ordered the profiteroles for dessert. These were excellent. Lots of ice cream and chocolate.

Frank L.

Yelp
Charming European ambiance in North America. Waitress and other serving staff members were great: friendly and professional. I loved my poutine with duck confit and my wife's steak frites was great too. The Côte du Rhone bio and other local red wine were both a bit sweet, but I loved my wife's sauvignon blanc was great.
google avatar

Winnie N.

Yelp
We ate here because my boyfriend didn't want French/ Canadian food that night. Food was delicious. The portions were a lot bigger than I expected which was great! The steak was medium rare like we asked for. The duck leg confit was okay but it was a bit salty. It wasn't too salty but it does overpower your palette at the end of each bite. I had to eat it with my salad and wash it down with my white sangria to finish it. Overall it was good. The drinks weren't too strong but you can't really complain at 7.50 CAD at a nice restaurant like this. The desserts were wonderful. I really enjoyed the lava cake and the Creme brûlée. The chocolate had the right amount of sweetness with the ice cream on top. The Creme brûlée was fluffy and subtle in flavor. Overall, a nice finish to our overall meal. Definitely would come here again the next time I revisit Quebec!
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
The secret sauce is the reason for this visit. It's amazing and I can't get enough. The service is excellent. L'entrecote steak with the secret sauce is the most popular item. The steak was not real tender and not much flavor, the sauce was just warm. They willing gave extra sauce with no up-charge. The last time I visited the steak was excellent but I've had a few people I recommended this restaurant to, that also had tough steak. I guess it's hit or miss... this was our miss this time.

John B.

Yelp
Good food and service, good ambiance. But very weak drinks, and even pours on straight alcohol neat very small. We saw that the bottles had regulating devices on them (not just pour spouts).

Shannon B.

Yelp
My steak was terrible and not cooked properly. Waiter was super friendly and the fries saved the experience.
google avatar

Andrew N.

Yelp
Location is fantastic and lively, but food is very sub-par. Watched multiple tables report issues with their meals to the waiter, one of which sent all the plates back. The steak frites dinner was a good value; included soup, salad, and dessert. Steak was not great. Sadly, the fries were more impressive.
