Stopped at Leon's for lunch and had great food and service. Love eating at local places, Leon even came over and thanked us for coming.

All I can say is OMG this is the BEST bbq joint! Leon’s choice brisket melts in your mouth! The ribs are amazing, as is the potato salad. His homemade seasonings and sauce is delicious! We visited with friends from England that wanted to try authentic Texas BBQ and the 4 of us devoured 2 pounds of meat. Leon even came out to introduce himself. Great food, great service and we’ll definitely be back!

My wife and I dined at Leon's last week for dinner. The BBQ meats (brisket, ribs, and sausage) were absolutely delicious. They were tender, well seasoned, and had a good wood smoked flavor. But the sides were horrible. We had the cornbread, coleslaw, and spicey rice. The cornbread was flat and had the consistency of sweet potato pie, but it was tasteless and seemed undercooked. The rice tasteless and overcooked, and the coleslaw was tasteless and seemed to be poured right out of a bag. We ended up throwing all the sides away.

Amazing food and people. The portions were generous and affordable! 100% recommend!

This is our first trip to Galveston (my first trip to anywhere in Texas since I was 13) and since we are headed out on a cruise tomorrow, and we flew in 2 days early, one big requirement was to find QUALITY BBQ while we were here. Our biggest requirement was that it had to be a Mom & Pop shop... no chain restaurants for us. We discovered Leon's after some Google searches before coming to Galveston, and based on photos of the place, we made the decision to check them out. Right on the main drag into Galveston, I spotted it when we drove in the evening before... very easy to locate, and the sign, while small, is indicative of everything we hoped to expect from their BBQ. We all agreed to hit them up for lunch the next day. When we showed up, they weren't seating in the dining room - but that's okay - we had decided to take it back to the hotel lobby to eat lunch beforehand. We met the daughter, celebrating her birthday and she took our orders. (Happy Birthday! 🎂🥳) When in doubt, you ALWAYS GET THE NAMESAKE DISH! My hubby, our friend, and myself all chose the "Leon's Cut" - a juicier brisket cut, with the fat - 1-meat dinner which came with two sides. I chose the mac & cheese and red beans & rice, my hubby got the mac & cheese and potato salad, and our friend picked red beans & rice and coleslaw. All the dinners come with a choice of white or wheat bread as well as pickles & sliced raw onions. They let us sit in the car in our AC while they packed up our meals and brought it out to us. With the heat warning, we appreciated this, although we could have hopped out to get it when ready. They were all super nice and very helpful at picking out items. When we unpacked the meals at the hotel, we were not disappointed! The meat was juicy, full of smoke, salty in all the right ways, and the flavors were top-notch. And the 1-meat portion is HUGE! I loved the homemade mac & cheese, and the red beans & rice were packed in a separate bowl, so it didn't slosh in the containers. I appreciate this little step. I got to try my hubby's potato salad and quite enjoyed the tangy flavors. We were surprised that we each got two slices of bread, so our friend asked if he could have the bread to make his own little sandwiches. He later told us that he was SO HAPPY to have brisket sandwiches while he was here. Oh, and their BBQ sauce was nice and thin, with a great vinegar base. I don't normally use BBQ sauces because they tend to be too sweet, but this had the PERFECT balance. I'd buy that sauce to use at home if I could sneak it back on the plane. 😅 For those who aren't sure about hole-in-the-wall, or Mom & Pop shops that don't generally advertise their businesses, my best advice is when you know their business hours, plan to go earlier in the day, closer to when they open. You get fresher cuts and more choices from the menu. You won't be disappointed. If we come back down here for another cruise, and we bring my In-laws, we will make sure we come to Leon's again. We noticed the "for sale" sign on the building, though... so hopefully, that just means a new location in their future. 🙏🍖🍗❤️

Google
Don't judge a book by it's cover! Leon's was definitely a Go To Stop! After reading many reviews, we knew this was the BBQ place we were going to try. Many reviews mentioned the building and how it didn't scream "BBQ Joint!" but they gave it a try and were impressed. We did just that! The Brisket was delicious, melted in your mouth. Very generous with portions and even sharing lunch, we left stuffed! The staff were very sweet and entertaining!

The smell walking up to this place primes you for the food inside. My son and I swung by for some lunch on our vacation. I didn’t really want anything to do with sides, just some good Texas brisket…and I definitely got that. The brisket was absolutely delicious. Great smokey bark, extremely moist and flavorful, melt in your mouth brisket. We got the Leon cut because of a guy has his favorite cut, it must be the best. Well worth the extra couple of dollars. I would definitely return here for another meal. The service was also fantastic. Everyone was very friendly and attentive. I also liked the fact that Leon himself was there cooking. It’s like going to a guy’s house for some barbecue instead of the big places where they have a bunch of people cranking out food. It’s much more meaningful in some way when the guy who perfected the recipe is still there doing the cooking. Like I was a guest at his house or something. Some people might not like the atmosphere. It’s not fancy in any way, but I think that just added to the experience for me. It was all about the food and the food was perfect. This is just great Texas Barbecue.

We are on vacation and wanted some Texas BBQ. Leon’s had some excellent reviews, so we headed to Galveston. When we pulled up, I was a bit hesitant to he in because the outside appearance; however, the delicious aroma of the BBQ filled the neighborhood. We ordered our meal with the help of our lovely waitress, she recommended the three meats and Leon’s cut, which was a fatty and juicy cut. Our dinner included 2 sides, but we ordered a third. Our meats were brisket, ribs, and sausage. Each was exceptional and by far the best BBQ I’ve ever eaten. The ribs have dry rub and fell off the bone. The brisket was juicy and tender and the sausage had the right amount of spice. The price was reasonable; $28.00 for everything. Don’t let the exterior fool you! It’s worth the stop.

Yelp
Leon's was great! We were in town from Utah visiting Galveston. Leon's was very inviting. The owner came out to greet us and they comfortably fed our collective group of 12 quite easily. The meat was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We'll be back next time we head out to Galveston!

Yelp
This is the kind of spot that you really want them to do well on account of being locally-owned, with quaint ambiance, attentive service, and an old-timer owner and pit boss. Unfortunately, the praise ends there and the only good food was the packaged pickles and chips so we really felt compelled to balance out the 4 star reviews that brought us here. We've had incredible barbecue all over Houston, Dallas, Austin, and other states, but this was just not fresh food made with passion. Brisket is tough and flavorless, more like a corned beef... the texture and lack of smoke flavor or crust makes me think it's been pre-cooked and then vacuum-sealed and boiled to bring to temp. It wasn't prime lunch or dinner hour, but our hot sides were served cold and our cole slaw seemed like cabbage fresh outta the plastic. Barbecue never lets me down, so this one hurt.

Shanda D.

Yelp
Visited this place for the first time for takeout. Apparently they are rebuilding from where a car crashed into the establishment. The place is really small, so I'd suggest getting your food to-go. For $21.50, we got the three meat plate (pic attached) For our meats, we got extra lean brisket (too lean, next time I'll get the Leon cut, ribs (really good) and white meat chicken (enjoyed this as well). For our sides we selected turnip greens (decent) and beans (not a fan). It came with bread and onions and pickles. The lady that took our order was very courteous and helpful. There's an article on the wall in the establishment about Leon the owner (pic attached). I've also attached a pic of the menu. All and all, this is very decent bbq and is very reasonably priced relative to other bbq places and other restaurants in general. Good value. I recommend you give it a try.

Yelp
We're here in Galveston on vacation and when the BBQ place we wanted to try was closed for dinner I looked on Yelp and found Leon's nearby. We ordered their 3 meat dinner (brisket, beef and sausage) and my son ordered their Yard Bird Sandwich. For the sides we ordered green beans and red beans and rice. I picked up my order which was ready in about 35 minutes. The meats were juicy and tasty. The green beans and red beans and rice were also tasty. I just wish there was more of red beans and rice, the container was a little small. When we ordered the Yard Bird sandwich there was no picture on Yelp to see what it looked like. We didn't know it came as 3 pieces of chicken and sandwich bread. Although my son said it was tasty, we probably would have ordered something else if we knew what it looked like. We were expecting maybe a chicken breast and the bread to be more of a bun. We didn't dine inside the restaurant so we can't speak to the ambience. Overall the food delicious.

Claire R.

Yelp
Try the Leon's cut fatty and tender! Best BBQ I've had in a very long time! FYI they do deliver!

Monica H.

Yelp
*smack!smack!smack!* Absolutely delicious. The meat was juicy and well cooked. I could have eaten a bucket of the beans. The service was fast and the staff were super friendly. This will be my go to place the next time I'm in town.

Erica C.

Yelp
We've been here twice now. Small down to earth and friendly place. Affordable too. Once we dined in and recently called in an order to go. Both times food was excellent. We had brisket sandwiches, ribs, and a side of red beans and rice. BBQ prices in Houston have been rising while quality falling. This is not the case at Leon's. Would def come back when in Galveston.

Lisa L.

Yelp
World's Finest is right! We stumbled upon Leon's during our quest for Texas BBQ. We walked in and were warmly greeted. Once seated, Leon came over to say hello and was quick to answer questions and allowed us to sample a couple of items we weren't sure about. He was a fun and genuine guy to talk to and knows how to ham it up with his guests. Our group ended up ordering the brisket, ribs and turkey. For sides we enjoyed the turnip greens, mac and cheese, rice and beans, BBQ beans, potato salad and coleslaw. Once the food came all you could hear from our table was lip smacking, finger licking, some mmm's and comments like "This is hands down the best BBQ I've ever had", " This is amazing", "This is so good". The meats were melt in your mouth tender. Knives were on the table, but they were not needed. The homemade heated BBQ sauce was incredible. Portion sizes were huge. We left with full bellies and full left over boxes for a later meal. It is a good thing we don't live in Texas, because Leon's would be a regular dining spot if we did and our waistlines could not handle that!

Amos E.

Yelp
Very unassuming place. Was closed due to a car crashing into the business when I visited, so picked up right in front of it. It was well worth the inconvenience. Tge portions are generous and delectable. The Leon's cut was a juicy and scrumptious chunk of brisket. One of the better BBQ pits I ate at during my stay. Service was very friendly and personable.

Liz N.

Yelp
My husband grew up in Texas and has been dreaming of having the type of BBQ from his childhood. This place exceeded his memories. From fall-apart brisket to their personal recipe smoked sausage to the juiciest and most flavorful turkey I've ever had-nothing beats Leon's. It's a small, unassuming building, but don't let that fool you. The service was also great-a friendly, family atmosphere. I would give more stars if I could.

Barbara B.

Yelp
Outstanding smoke from Leon. He is an artist with the brisket - juicy, tender, and not overwhelmingly smokey. He has got it down. The pork chips were also superb. His sauce is home made and a great mix of smokey and just a tinge of spice. Not too sweet (I can't stand overly sweet BBQ sauce). A little disappointed in the homemade "Downtown" sausage. Nothing wrong with it, just not my style. Sides were fine. Leon is a gentleman. As friendly as a person could be. But serious about his craft. Note that the place is a bit scruffy - following on one of the prior reviews, he hasn't yet fixed the damage from the car hitting the place and they walk you in through the kitchen. And my, oh my, oh my, the smoke smell is delicious. Will really whet your appetite.

Russell B.

Yelp
We returned here on our first beach trip since the pandemic. I remembered it as really good, but today really exceeded our expectations. The ribs were some of the best I have had in a long time. This visit we were honored by a tableside visit from Leon himself. For bbq lovers this was a real honor and a moment I will not soon forget. Sides were so so. I'd suggest just sticking with a plate of ribs and a cold glass of sweet tea. Go see Leon and show him some love.

Tony M.

Yelp
this shit is permanently closed. drove to galveston for nothing! if anyone knows where to get good bbq in g town lmk!

Ralph S.

Yelp
We haven't been here in several years. The prices are reasonable and the bbq is delicious. Try the turnip greens!!

Melba M.

Yelp
This is the third time I have ordered takeout food from this location over a period of some years. This is the third time that I've gotten my food, and took it to my place to accommodate guests. I was staying in Galveston on the west end which is far away from their location and part of my order was missing. My most recent order on February 9th 2024 was a total disappointment! I had an order that totaled $79 that should've included a whole chicken. The cost of the whole chicken was 16.95 plus tax and it wasn't included in my order when I got back to my Beach House which is quite a few miles from Leon's. I called them and told them that the chicken was missing from the order and it was too far for me to drive back to their location. They said they were going to credit my credit card for the amount of $16.95 plus tax. to date they have not credited my account. This forces me to get my adjustment through my credit card customer service department. Now the same thing happened a few years back. I had to go back over there to their location to get the rest of my order because they Had not included part of my order. And then the time before that time..., so I see a pattern here and it's very disturbing. Plus, this time the barbecue beef was sliced off so thin until it was tasteless and tasted like it been boiled instead of barbecued. The ribs were dry and tasted old. The sausage seemed like it was still raw. It hadn't been barbecued or even cooked at all! The sides were disappointing because there wasn't much in each small container. The size of the container was small but I ordered large sizes. So I just felt like they ripped me off and I was out of almost $80 for my incomplete order that just wasn't all there! they took my money and I didn't get what I ordered so it was a big disappointment. I just want my experience to be known. I try to support people of color businesses because I know it's important. But when I have these kinds of experiences, I am more inclined to never step foot into this place again, and any other place that tries to take my money and doesn't give me the products that I ordered. in addition to saying that they're going to credit my card back for the items missed and so far that hasn't happened either. So I just wanted people to know about my personal experience in this situation At Leon's Barbecue in Galveston Tx.

Yelp
5 star alert! I remember eating here through the years but just couldn't remember how it tasted since it's been a while. The food is so good here! Wow the flavor of the meat and bbq sauce is amazing! This is one of the spots that will be my go to spot for lunch in Galveston when I'm here. Simply great bbq! Food: North Carolina chip bbq sandwich was so dam good! I could have literally eaten two just because the taste is so good. The bbq sauce is sweet and tangy. One of my favorite bbq sauces I have tried. Great bbq sandwich! We got the rib sandwich as well to try those and they were just as good. My fave though was the niece Carolina sandwich. In fact on the way out tomorrow we will stop there again! Customer service: the lady working the counter is very nice. She saw that the lady who was supposed to be bagging up the food was lagging so she went and bagged up my order. Thank you for that! If you follow me. This is a must try.

Vik V.

Yelp
Holy cow is this place delicious! The dine-in is still closed from a car crash into the building so everything is to-go. There are very helpful and friendly ladies on the sidewalk who will take your order. Prices seem to be in-line with what you get. We ordered 3 half-pound portions of meat and a side of potato salad for 3 people to share, as the portions are generous. We ate our fill and still had some left over. I'm pretty sure the potato salad is made in-house but the real stars of the show are the meats! The brisket came with bbq sauce but you absolutely don't need it. The flavor is already fantastic. The ribs are tender and amazing and the homemade sausage has a fantastic flavor. The Leon cut is fattier and more flavorful, well worth the few dollars to upgrade. We've never had Texas barbecue before but we're converts after eating Leon's!

Barry O.

Yelp
Food was excellent, friendly staff, 41 year family history of ownership. Don't let the outside look scare you away. A neighborhood family friendly place. Would of bought one of their T Shirts if they had them for sale on premises. Food portion was enough to have left overs for lunch the next day. Thank you Leon's Family for a great experience!

Logan M.

Yelp
Came here on a whim as our normal BBQ spot was closed, and found what felt like a hidden gem! We got the Leon's choice cut of meat and it was fantastic. The staff were all extremely friendly and we even met the man himself, Leon

Vernon H.

Yelp
The food was spot on. The question is do you prefer the Leon's cut (juicier fatter) like me, or leaner cut like my wife tried both loved both. Sauce on ribs is a distraction (tried one bite) the rub is perfect meats fall off the bones. Loved the layers of flavors in the potato salad. Leon and crew are charming ,and gracious excellent food and hospitality.

Jana B.

Yelp
Leon's is a very authentic bbq place. We ordered the 3 meat plate (ribs, brisket and sausage) and they were all tasty. The potato salad was sort of like mashed potatoes with chunks of potato and very good. I especially enjoyed the coleslaw. Seating inside. Leon was there and told us that he went to culinary school and cooked for generals in the military. This is definitely worth a stop when in Galveston!

Eve A.

Yelp
Dining room out of service due to accident. But the take out food was worth it. Great staff attitude. Wonderful flavor. Order the rum cake in advance- really good!

Liz Z.

Yelp
Got the brisket. The potato salad was also very good. Big potato chunks. Our waitress was nice and friendly. Will go back!

Mary F.

Yelp
We had the LEON'S choice brisket!! So good, juicy and tasTy. Also tried the buttermilk pie! So good. Glad we found you!

Harold H.

Yelp
Very unassuming location - bare bone no-nonsense space definitely focused on the food. Probably the best brisket I've ever had. Leon himself sat us and made great conversation. Service was excellent. The slaw was unusually delicious and the potato salad amazing as well. No bar service. Just a few canned beer selections along with soft drinks & teas. Highly recommend making Leon's a stop for bbq while in Galveston - sooner than later. Leons ready to retire and the place is up for sale. So happy we made this stop it was a wonderful experience.

Loretta D T.

Yelp
Oh Leon's ,,,,, It's about as original as "time", great place to drop in and get delicious "riblets" @ 9.99 a pound (about 4-5 big slices). I'm not that crazy about anything else on the menu and coworkers aren't that crazy about their menu items. We all just stick to the riblets,,,it's like huge chunky bacon finger licking meaty slices. yum!!!

Kim S.

Yelp
My mouth is still happy about the BBQ here at this place. We got here as soon as it opened since there is limited parking near the business. The fragrance is the first thing to notice when inside. It's definitely an old fashioned place where they do Texas brisket very well. My husband ordered the Leon's cut of brisket with red beans and rice, and I ordered the chopped brisket. It was amazing. There is a little heat with the sauce but not too bad. It's a small restaurant so not good for a crowd.

Jay M.

Yelp
Good BBQ ribs and brisket. Bought this for taking to family reunion. Ordered Ribs, brisket, and what I thought was chicken. After getting it I wondered if it might have been a turkey it was so big. Dang that was a big bird. I mentioned how many we were feeding and they said I needed way less chicken than I thought. So yes, I over ordered. Ribs and brisket were good. Chicken was good, but a bit dry. Overall good bbq.

Dennis K.

Yelp
I would consider this a must-stop if you're in Galveston. It's not exactly Hill Country BBQ and it's not exactly southern (though it is hickory smoked). The pies are effing amazing. The ribs are great. The brisket is above average, as is the sausage. And the turkey is turkey. This place looks like a hole in the wall and seems to be run the correct way--which is to say that the people working there are exceptionally friendly and make you feel welcome. For that reason alone I would continue to go back. But it helps that everything on the menu ranges from good to great.

Ashley P.

Yelp
Amazing food and amazing service! This family owned business is memorable. The ambiance is authentic enough to feel as if you're at your auntie's kitchen eating good food. Definitely recommended! Always visit Leon's for great food.

Anthony L.

Yelp
Great BBQ in Galveston Had change while going out of Galveston on a cruise to eat at this place. I ordered the Leon's best brisket and greens and potato salad. Without getting log-winded all of it was fabulous. If you in the area don't miss this place.

Richard S.

Yelp
I unknowingly arrived 10 minutes before closing. They actually close at 6pm on Sunday as opposed to the hours indicated on some review sites. It was difficult to spot the place in the foggy Galveston weather because the building looks just like a house without many features that make it stand out as a restaurant. I finally found it by noticing the smoke shack out back and a few employees standing outside. I pulled up and they told me they are about to close, to which I just asked if I could get just meat to-go. They were nice enough to let me in. To keep it simple, I asked for half a pound of their sliced turkey and half a pound of whatever else they had available. The employee recommended I try the North Carolina BBQ Chip, so I ordered a half pound of that as well. The menu had a lot of other choices and some appetizing sides but I knew they were already closing down the kitchen so I didn't want to get too complicated. I was surprised that they do not offer pulled pork or pork tenderloin. I waited maybe 5 minutes for them to bring out my to-go order. While I was there, I looked around at some of the decorations of Galveston and Leon's BBQ history. It was a very hole-in-the-wall place but very comfortable. I took my order back to my hotel and dug in. The sliced smoked turkey breast was phenomenal. Seriously, it was the best BBQ I've ever had. The meat had a very nice smoke flavor throughout the entire thickness of the slice. It was very moist which is rare to find with smoked turkey breast. The edges were coated with a very good, savory dry rub with just a tinge of sweetness and a hint of heat. I liked that it was dry rub and not drowning in sauce. The dry rub was almost caked on in places and those were my favorite bites. The flavor permeated the full thickness of the slice which is a sign that the meat was truly slow-cooked in a smoker and not simulated like broil-b-q chain places. The chip BBQ was very good as well. It was basically chopped beef brisket in a BBQ sauce. The sauce was slightly sweet and had a noticeable presence of vinegar and molasses. The meat was good and tender and mostly lean. The beef flavor was very distinct which makes me think that the qualify of cut was top-notch and fresh. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a down-home meal on Galveston. I wish I had more time to enjoy my meal in their dining area while trying some of their side dishes. I will definitely give it another try the next time I am in the area.

Barry B.

Yelp
Went to pick up brisket plate. Not many pitmasters can place flavor inside the meat instead of just the outside. Leon did not disappoint. His technique placed good smoke flavor on the outside as well as savory spice on the inside. He is an artist and highly respected. We shall return.

Chanita C.

Yelp
Loved this place--great food (brisket, ribs, potatoes salad, bar-b-que beans, rum cake). Best sweet tea I've ever had and such a warm and welcoming team. I love that the owner came out to greet and speak with my god-daughter and I personally on our visit. Great place to go if you're in Galveston.

Katherine K.

Yelp
Don't let the exterior fool you, you will not be disappointed! The food was exceptional, and Cynthia was top notch. She took great care of us, guided us through the menu and provided great customer service. Don't miss out!

Tom C.

Yelp
If you're looking for a fancy dining experience Leon's is not for you BUT WAIT Leon's has wonderful BBQ, plenty of seating, and friendly people. I had brisket, Leon's Cut, great brisket with some fat. Denise had the baked potato, chopped beef, green onion, cheese and sour cream. I also had turnip greens that were perfectly cooked and seasoned. I wish I had the recipe for this one.

Travis L.

Yelp
Don't let the name fool you. This is definitely not fine BBQ. I don't recommend it. We did not have a good experience here. The woman who took our order does not seem to know the menu items. When I asked what the "North Carolina BBQ Chip" sandwich was she said it was brisket with sauce on it. When she brought out the order she brought dry brisket out. When I said I ordered the North Carolina bbq chip sandwich she said it the same thing. She also forgot the bring out half of the sides we ordered. We asked another woman who worked there and she took my plate because it was the wrong order and brought the right item out. The brisket and spare ribs are dry and salty. They are skimpy on the bread they give you. The sides are not good. Mac and cheese tastes like boxed Mac and cheese, the bbq baked beans are plain. The cole slaw is ok and the potato salad tastes like it was store bought.

Yelp
We ordered delivery to our West end vacation rental. Highly recommend the Leon's cut of brisket and the ribs-smoky, flavorful, and juicy. As advertised, the extra lean brisket-was very lean. The potato salad was a big in the sweet side--sweet pickle relish? The dressing for the Cole slaw was thoughtfully served on the side to keep the slaw crisp. The downtown sausage was similar to East Texas links. Our personal preference is Czech style. Leon's downtown sausage was a very faithful delicious rendition of East Texas style. Order Leon's--we dined on the leftovers for 2 more days.

Yelp
Delicious food and great environment. Our first time here and the service was great. The waitress was very helpful. Will definitely come back.

Yelp
Service was attentive. We had the 3 meat combo Spare ribs, brisket and sausage. The ribs were not greasy - there was a lot of meat. The brisket was tender. I had the collard greens and baked beans. Both were good. The greens were not soaked in butter. For dessert we had bread pudding and sweet potato pie. It was wonderful!! everything was great!

Yelp
A Mom and pop shop and the best bbq I've ever had. They just need to have some lemonade as a beverage choice.

Yelp
I can't overstate the amount of love I felt eating at Leon's. For starters, we arrived super close to closing: okay, it was basically at closing SMH. The front door was locked, but we saw an older gentlemen waving us down to come to the rear entrance near the kitchen. My initial thought was that he was either selling leftovers or poaching customers, but he ended up ushering us through the kitchen into the dining room. It turns out this older gent was actually Leon himself!!!! He, his wife and his son made us all feel very at home. And the brisket?! It's some of the best I've ever had, and I'm a critic!!!! Mr. Leon fed us all well and filled us in on some of the history of his restaurant and Galveston in general. I greatly appreciated his hospitality. The food was great and the service was stellar!!! I'll driveline be returning the first chance I get!

Yelp
Best barbecue we've had in a long time. The brisket was delicious. Turnip greens, red beans and rice, barbecue beans, and potato salad were also outstanding.

Yelp
I did not take a picture of the food I should've but I ordered a beef sandwich actually a brisket sandwich and for the bread which I thought would be a bun was two slices of bread with a side of barbecue sauce in the meat was awfully dry customer service was very dry no hello how are you doing or none of that I is family own but I believe once the owner died they just stop giving a damn about the place or customer service I'm sure they treat the locals better I do not recommend this place and I will never go back

Yelp
I love this place but it's unsafe place to have lunch or dinner right now. The cashier and the cook and the white woman who puts together the orders are wearing their masks improperly. They only have their mass covering their mouth the mask needs to cover their nose and their mouth. If they have the Corona virus I guarantee you it's on your food from aspiration/fluid ( liquid materials which are released from everyone's nose) as they breathe on your food.

Yelp
My sisters and I enjoyed the excellent bbq at Leon's several weeks ago. Friendly, welcoming home environment. Leon and his team talked with us and shared the history of his restaurant. Very nice people. The food was outstanding. Leon's cut was melt in your mouth good. We walked away full with left overs that we enjoyed later in the day. This place is highly recommended by me and my sisters

Yelp
Had the chip bbq, sausage links, turnip greens and Mac and cheese. Very good food. Have to go back now to try the ribs and brisket

Yelp
We just found the most amazing BBQ restaurant. The outside of the building is unassuming, so it could have passed for closed. Once we got in there, the kindest waitress suggested we share the 3-meat plate so we could try some different items. That was an excellent idea! The brisket was moist, with a savory seasoning. I'm not usually one to enjoy burnt ends, but these had the best flavor! My husband (quite the sausage lover) really enjoyed "Leon's Downtown Link". He said, that's how you make sausage! The green beans had a delicious, mapley-seasoned flavor. Between the food and the service, we will definitely go back next time we are down on the island.

Yelp
I know, I know....anyone who friends me has got to wonder....Nett, why do you give such a high star rating on most every place you review?.....well, sometimes its the food....sometimes its the atmosphere, ya know, ambiance.....sometimes its the actual soul of an establishment.....THAT my friends, is why Leon's deserves my highest honor...Mr. Leon, who took the time to sit a spell with us, not because he wanted to toot his own award winning name, but because he enjoys the company of us folks who have enjoyed his craft as a pitmaster, is genuine, kind, and dayummmm can BBQ! We learned of his 25 years of service to our country (he displays the flag of our nation) his culinary background of catering the Sandra Day O'Connor Supreme Court, and finally, for his past 41 years, serving up breathtakingly gorgeous BBQ to the fortunate residents, and passers by in Galveston...our group enjoyed Leon's cut brisket with juicy barky crust and smoke ring for days, housemade links with great snap, and a variety of sides, with honorable mention of real house potato salad and creamy Mac.....our server Wanda, wonderful lady, took such great care of our challenging party of 8! Thanks for putting up with us and keeping your beautiful smile....oh get the Rum Cake...oh yes, save room!!!...you'll thank me for the recommendation!
