Leo's Coney Island (Downtown Royal Oak)

The food was absolutely excellent. It was a wonderful dining experience that the entire family truly enjoyed. Delina, the cashier, was exceptionally professional and displayed a strong focus on customer service, making us feel welcomed from the moment we walked in. Our servers, Courtney and Kate, went above and beyond to ensure our visit was perfect. They were attentive, friendly, and consistently checked in on us.

I took my daughter there for lunch on Sunday and it was the worse time we ever had . The 2 servers which one was the manager I was told , were yelling across the restaurant. Then the so called manager yells I need to take a break I have to pee . After waiting awhile for our food we finally got it but NO French fries and no server came to check on us. After I got one of the servers attention she finally came over ( which she was supposed to be training the girl that took our order) I told the girl that took our order she needs to find better trainers because they were crap .

So wife and I ordered food on Uber Eats from this location. I got two patty melts and wife got two philly cheesesteaks with a lemon creme pie. Wife's food showed up awful. There was no cheese on the cheesesteaks, and the pie was just a lump of crumbs and creme. This place used to do their food right but this order was just awful and Uber is protecting them by saying they can't help us get a refund or credit for this poor experience. I say do not order from them unless you'll be sitting in their location, do not do takeout or delivery. As I said, Uber Eats protected this restaurant from having to deal with sending out a horrible order. Do not get delivery. Just don't.

We came to get dessert and it was crazyyyyy. This is how an ice cream with hot fudge, cream puff, and rice pudding came out. 🫣

Ordered through a third party delivery service, and was appalled at my meal upon arrival. My entire meal was wrong in some way or another. Bread on the burgers was soggy, and dressed incorrectly. Hotdogs were chewy like rubber, fries were still raw, and my GAWD the MAYO!! Seriously looks like they just grabbed a glob on a spoon and just slapped it onto the top bun...

Ordered and overpaid for delivery only to descent the wrong thing, and then only offered a refund for a couple. Hours listen, the original item was cost to start with that. Doesn't make any sense. I mean, if you don't have the product, don't pack it. Call the company and tell them that the moving meal delivery isn't going to be correct and you need to get a refund for that item. Don't just freaking send something stupid. Especially when people are paying this much for this food to be delivered. I know you're not getting anything. You're making it, but come on, those food apps are not cheap, and then you got to tip the driver on top of it, and it's like, oh my god, now you crap, that flavor list.And it's not even the right item

Attn business owner. I wish I had listened to the reviews. I don’t like leaving bad reviews but I need too so hopefully it will help. The door entering and exiting needs to be cleaned daily. The smell wasn’t good in the restaurant. It was the smell of cleaning products. I asked if the pita was in the bag they said yes. I didn’t notice until after I got back to my destination that the pita wasn’t in the bag. I went back and they gave me a pita. The pita was soggy. The employees were very nice. I’m very sorry for this review.

We stood in the walkway for a good 5 minutes before WE ASKED one of the waitresses if we needed to seat ourselves. OUR waitress was GREAT as well as Diona, however, there was one waitress in particular (blonde) who kept telling the cooks to “STFU”, loudly lol. The cooks were LITERALLY FIGHTING in the kitchen, manager present and all - and didn’t do a thing. The waitress even said “he doesn’t care 🤷🏻‍♀️”. We had to wait until the cooks were done fighting to have our food made - which was about 20 minutes after we had ordered.. so now we’re waiting 45 minutes to eat mediocre food (at best) in a lousy atmosphere. A table had to walk out because nobody greeted them or came to take their order. DoorDash and Carry-Out were their first priority. The food was TERRIBLE, pita was hard, fries were dried out or old as dirt, my son never received his food after an hour wait (tuna melt), and then when explaining this to the MANAGER, he looks at me like I’m stupid and says, “well idk what to tell you - you gotta pay for what you ate”. 🤯 sir, I’m trying to tell you this FOOD is INEDIBLE!! Good thing we took a bite and that’s it….this was unreal… and I previously have worked in the hospitality industry for 10 years… I used to come here frequently, but over the years it’s truly diminished in quality. It’s not a pleasant experience at all, and in my opinion not worth the time or money. This restaurant is a complete JOKE, and probably the laughing stock of Royal Oak. Hopefully, they’ll see this review and think about making a change, but I doubt it 🤷🏻‍♀️ even their staff wants better management!!!!! WAKE UP!

I've been calling every few days for the past 3 months, with only one simple request.... I keep telling the employees to put a girl on, but alas, to no avail. Shoutout Angie, mediocre customer service . Go get a heater ya beautiful bums.

Chicken pita (hani they forgot the lettuce, tomato and sauce.) And a standard coney dog and curly fries. $19 via takeout me ordering onsite and waiting for bc they don't have time for phone orders. More importantly; I called to place take out order 4-5x times, and they don't answer or put me on hold endlessly, they need more staff, I get left on hold and just hear them dealing with customers in background bc they are in the weeds. Sad sad They pay a lot in rent to stay in that location, have talented staff during busy hours, there was a homeless guy passed out on a table, and 40% of tables that needed to get cleaned, and drunk folks everywhere, and a uncomfortable atmosphere to same the least.

I used to love to come to Leo's but lately I'm not sure they even stay in business. I stopped in to the Royal Oak location... first it smelled like Dirty mop water... the whole place. And then you notice how dirty... I'm mean gross and dirty .... Man !! So disgusting

If Aaron is cooking just turn around and leave....two nights in a row now I've gotten a stacked fry with tomatoes in it. Tomatoes aren't mentioned anywhere on the menu. When asked about it the second time he tells the servers with an attitude it'll be 10-15 minutes...I'm the only one in the restaurant dude. As a fellow cook you should be fucking ashamed of yourself for 1, fucking up a BEYOND easy order and 2, being an asshole for no reason if you hate your job find another one. I'm thankful there's some people there who have their head on straight it they were working tonight Aaron wouldn't be acting like that. It's a shame to see someone act so careless at a job where your main objective is to satisfy customers.

We ordered delivery and were so disappointed, our pita was crumbly and the cheese wasn't even melted. The lettuce was almost all brown and they forgot the tomatoes. This location has gone downhill so fast in the last two years. Sadly, we will be getting our chicken finger pita elsewhere moving forward.

Place is dirty. Our salads did not seem fresh. Fries were cold. Crispy burnt onions were not crispy or burnt. Our takeout order was wrong. Sad because we love the Leo's on Telegraph in Bloomfield.

Leo's classics. Never disappoints. Ordered this on DoorDash and it was made fast. There was so much meat on the Philly steak sandwich that it was overflowed the bread. Yum!!

I will be the first to say that Leo's is always good for getting in and out for a quick meal which anyone would expect from a Coney Island. I will say at my last visit one of employees behavior was less than desirable. Smoking weed while sitting next to the back customer entrance while yelling political based rants was not good look. I had my doubts about this man working at the restaurant until he came back inside and entered the kitchen. I know it's a Coney Island, but in the early evening on a Thursday I think we can do better, Leo's. Now our waitress who was new happened to be a total pleasure and she nailed the order without issue.

Waitress was pleasant but the place is Absolutely filthy and freezing like they had nheat. You can tell there is no one who cares enough to clean up while there is no customers in the place. GROSS! Wont ever step foot in that place again

I typically order a carry out large greek salad about once a month. On January 02, 2025 it was $11.49. On February 08, 2025 they increased the price to $14.99. AN INCREASE OF OVER 20 PERCENT in just over a month. The employee indicated Leo's raised prices on everything. They also now charge a 3 percent credit card surcharge. Lastly, the restaurant is typically filthy. I don't blame the staff....they typically seem understaffed and overworked. I rarely see the same employee twice which leads me to believe employees are underpaid or mistreated or both. I will not be returning.

Ordered delivery and it was inexcusable. coney dog with terrible nacho cheese sauce dumped all over it. The Coney burger burnt & cold and I live 5 mins away. Disgusting and will never order again. This location used to take pride in their food. That does not happen anymore

Service was super super slow, I feel bad for our waitress as she was the only one and they had one girl working carry out that was yelling at people and staff. Both of our orders were wrong, came out at different times and when mine got remade they made a totally different sandwich. Water dripping from the ceiling from the ac onto tables Used to be great and quick, no reason to come back now

Nastiest rice pudding I have ever tried. It was like barely cooked rice sitting in a small out of water. I didn't know rice could be chalky. No macaroni and cheese available even though it was mid-afternoon. Sweet potato fries were soggy with no flavor.

Service was quick which was nice but we were served a few raw chicken nuggets. Luckily my boyfriend decided to rip the specific nuggets in half before either of us tried to eat it but safe to say I won't be ordering the nuggets here again

I had the absolute honor of being served by Bethany at this grand establishment, I have experienced many tales of treacherous escapades and late night bites at this eminent eatery. But one experience has stuck out beyond the rest... A server so dedicated to her craft, so much passion for serving the people she feeds. The woes of a young laborer, just trying her best to make it through those endless late night shifts. I could see it in her that they do the best they can. It truly was a wonderful experience being served by Bethany.

I was very disappointed in this place. I know that it's been a while since I've been there but wow, it has gone downhill. The service was OK at best and the food was slightly better but I was scared to finish my food once I found the paper napkin ring in my water glass. The waitress was like oh and walked away. She didn't bother to take the glass or to say anything else. The bathrooms were absolutely filthy. I do not plan on returning.

My omelette was messed up multiple times. First with pork. Second one was missing ingredients. Then I was offered a refund if I give my account numbers to the staff and wait 7-14 days lol this is unacceptable So then I ordered chicken salad and was given uncut chicken bites smh large gross pieces in a salad! How rude! So I have to eat the slop or lose my money. I'm reviewing every page. Oh and no silverware given

Leo's has a variety of locations in the local area. This one is unremarkable but can be relied upon for basic fare and a decent burger or salad.

Staff member took my carry out order and packed up food after touching cash and the computer! Never washed hands or put gloves on!

This place used to be a decent place for a quick meal. The owner or his son used to be there every day overseeing everything. Not anymore. Now it's just a bunch of rude young waitresses in their late teens/early 20's who have no business being in the service industry. Went in there for lunch today. There were 3 tables with customers, including my table. One table had already received their food, another had not even ordered yet. I finally got my beverage after sitting there for 10 minutes. Placed my order which was a bowl of soup. After 15 minutes, the waitress brought me a cup of soup. I told her I wanted a bowl. She said she'd bring it back. I sat there another 10 minutes before I got up and walked out. The other table (which still hadn't ordered yet after sitting there for 20 minutes) got up and followed me out. The third table was sitting there trying to find their waitress because they finished their meal 20 minutes ago and were just trying to pay their check and leave. They were very irritated. I used to eat here multiple times a week. I will never spend another dime at Leo's in Royal Oak. Shithole.

Food good, slow customer service now matter what time of day. The staff not very helpful and informative. You will wait 30-40 mins for check.

I ordered the chicken kebab dinner. The rice was crunchy and undercooked. The red sauce was cooked down to a paste and it also looked old. I told the waitress to take it away. The soup was cold. Never again.

Not worth the money! I ordered the kitchen sink skillet which is supposed to come with cheese. It did not. My selection was hashbrowns, the hashbrowns were burnt and stuck together. My skillet was more like a pie with crust at the bottom. All the meat was dried out and overcooked. The only thing edible was my English muffin. Thank God they didn't forget the jelly

Stopped in for our "annual" spring hotdog. Staff was uninterested and slow to serve up our carry out. Ended up being served day old and cold hotdog with stale bun. Terrible. Went back and manager finally apologized and admitted they were old hot dogs. Will NOT be back.

Consistently the worst Leo's I have ever been to. The second you walk in, whatever appetite you may have had is immediately humbled by atrocious smell. Last time, it was far too much cleaning product (actively being used, directly next to our table as we were eating, mind you). This time it was a horrendous combination of dirty mop water and urine. I was in the service industry for nearly a decade, so unfortunately I'm familiar enough with these smells and know that that's what they are. With the smell being so bad and the tables being visibly dirty and streaky - again as if they had been "cleaned" with dirty water - my sister and I decided against dining in and opted for carry out. One of the servers (bleached, blond hair) seemed incredibly overwhelmed for a Sunday evening with 2 tables in the restaurant, yet somehow still very slow moving, and was even so overwhelmed and irritated that she grossly told a DoorDash driver who was waiting at the counter "move, you're in the way! People can't get their orders!" .... I just want it to be clear that there was absolutely no one else waiting for their food, except myself and my sister (who had been waiting nearly 20 minutes for nachos and a chicken finger pita). After, this server went to a table directly next to the checkout and began swearing loudly while eating candy. The food was underwhelming to say the very least. My chicken finger pita was the worst I've ever had. Pita was cold, chicken was cold, the cheese was not even remotely melted, and my pita had a large rip in it - which further confirms my suspicion that it never made it to an appropriate temperature. I'm not sure what's happening at this location but they need some serious improvements.

I love the Greek salad and fries . Whenever I travel to Detroit, I go at least 3 times!

I ordered chicken wings and waffles. On the menu it says 3 large WHOLE wings. I received 3 wing dings that were very small even for wing dings. That's false advertising. Plus, I get home there is no butter or syrup so I'm stuck with a dry waffle since I didn't have syrup at home. I also didn't get toast and butter with my omelette. If you don't care and don't want to do your job, just quit!!!

The food is what you'd expect from a Coney Island. It's hardly gourmet, but if you want a salad and some fries it's fine. But I will never order from here again because I have ordered carry out MANY times and at least 75% of the time something would be wrong with the order. Sometimes things are missing, sometimes a simple customization I asked for is ignored, sometimes it's just flat out the wrong order. I understand that mistakes happen once in a while, but the amount of times this happened is beyond belief. I don't like leaving bad reviews, but it's warranted here.

So please is cool but seems to be very short staffed on Sundays and that may not be the best evening to go if you want to dine in.

I was here on dad's day with family. The floors are dirty. They don't have some things that are on the menu. I wouldn't bring my dog here.

we had a party of 3. we all asked for water. 2 of us ordered coffee. we asked for a soup to be delivered as an appetizer. when our food arrived the soup still hasn't made it and a bowl of cold soup was brought. the coneys we asked for with no onion had onion and had to be replaced. I had to ask for the bread from my omelette. we asked for bbq sauce that never came because our server never came back. the server walked by several times to take a meal, and deliver a meal to a table behind us. we were ignored. I started a timer when the table next to us got their food. it took 18 minutes for the server to follow up with them. after another 20 minutes of us sitting there waiting for a server to come by to check on us or give us a bill we got up to get our own bill. we left an uneaten coney and untouched soup, wouldn't even bother getting a box for it. this experience has turned me off from not only this particular restaurant but also Leo's in its entirety.

Jesus...this place is so slow. Could not recommend this place less. Anywhere on the g dang earth is better than Leo's

Purgatory. Unbelievable how slow this place is. It literally defies physics how this restaurant can be empty and still take an hour to take an order + make eggs. Never come here ever.

We had some time to kill before seeing a movie at Emagine so we walked over to Coney Island. It's exactly what you should expect from a Coney Island. Food was delicious, as usual, but my cup of soup was cold / room temperature. Since it's a cheap Coney Island I just asked her to microwave it, what do I care? That's the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. Staff was super friendly.

Ordered through doordash 2 times recently both times i didn't receive my dressing for my salad. Which cool it's all good the first time, but it's a $12 caesar salad that literally is nothing without the dressing. Not only that i called and got laughed at by the waitresses on the phone. I don't know who owns this leo's but he needs to find new and competent staff. All in all, go ANYWHERE else.

Oof. Ordered takeout. Employees were friendly enough but, oh my God is this place filthy. How is it even still allowed to be open?

Our second stop on mini vaca is the 24-hr Leo's in Royal Oak and our buddy Crystal. For the record, Crystal has expressed what an extremely cute couple we are. This is without the knowledge she's in our review. Here's a tip: by eating at 11pm you miss the dinner crowd and the bar crowd. We started with a flaming cheese (Saganaki) that couldn't be beat. Using the proper cheese scores Leo important style points. My gyro plate was flawless and eaten way too quickly. The Greek salad had a massive pile of beets and NO RIBS. Those two factors alone made the salad worth while. Iced tea connoisseurs rejoice, you will be pleased with the effort on this brew! I feel they use too much tzatziki sauce on the gyro sandwich. Since it's a very addictive sauce, I had no trouble finishing every bite. The yellow rice was exceptional. Cooking rice is an art form in and of itself. Leo's always manages to get it right. The waitstaff is remarkably friendly and professional. It's fun to hang with Leo and the kids. It's hard to get up and leave. In trying to find an imperfection to avoid a five-star rating...I found nothing. Congratulations, Leo's. 9/19

Understaffed. It was a quiet rainy day, after 3pm so the lunch crowd was gone. The restaurant was quiet but the table across from us was a mess and did not get cleaned the entire time I was there. Ordered a coney and fries, fries were overcooked. My mom ordered wings and salad. Wings were good. Salad was just pale lettuce and big wedge of tomato and a little cucumber. To top it all off, parked at one of the new meters in Royal Oak, put my quarters in for an hour's time, was gone about 40 min and got a ticket anyway. NEVER coming back.

I cant put it into words but I really love this place and everyone who is giving low ratings doesn't understand the curated energy that Leo's supplies... Its really magical... you cant come here with any expectations and if you are youre just setting yourself up for failure ... just sit and eat and admire the world around you... yayy

Slow, doesn't wash hands! Order was placed in advance, but the male cook and female server are outside smoking! The order didn't start until I got there!

Went here a couple months ago and it was dirty. Then, I wanted a loose burger, chili on the side. Came with chili on top - mushy bun all the way. Requested they remake it and the waitress went to the cook and the cook told her that's as good as it gets....i see I already added this review right after it happened. So...

Practically nothing vegan on the menu. But okay, I got the veggie stir fry. The rice is so salty, I can't eat it. The veggies were decent. The service is okay. Hard working servers. They mean well. Nothing for the wifi.

The breakfast was given to me without any sauces or jams. I was charged extra for a different type of bread, but was given regular toast instead. The restroom is dirty and you know what the say about a restaurant when the restroom is bad. There was hardly any meat in the eggs. I saw someone cutting up veggies on a side table and I don't think they care about their customers. The one girl behind the register acted as if she was some sort of a queen in some fictional land. I was in a rush and thought this would be a good place for a to-go breakfast. However, it wasn't fast nor tasty. I would rather go to the many other places down the street.

This place has gone to absolute shit. Their food makes you sick as hell. Everything is unsanitary here. I used to love this place as it's one of the few places in downtown RO that's open 24 hours. I'm disappointed. If you want to go somewhere to eat that's open late, you're better off heading to Joe's Grill.

Ordered uber eats via here, both chicken finger pitas were raw. Offered to remake but I declined bc not really trusting whoever is making them, just wanted them to be aware. When I told them that, they go "oh uh...alright. Have a good day". Not a care in the world.

I ordered online as I have done in the past and was told my order would be ready at 6:15pm. To be safe I arrived 5 minutes past that time - 6:20. I waited for a few minutes at the counter as no one acknowledged me. Then I asked if my order was ready and after a few minutes of looking around I was told by the girl at the counter that it was still being made. I asked her if it was close as I did not want a parking ticket and she said 'I think so'. So, I then went out to my car to move it so that I did not get a ticket (Royal Oak has a new system that is notoriously difficult to use and has a 5 minute grace period.) Upon my return my order was still not ready (it was a simple club sandwich with fries). Finally it was completed and I literally ran back to my car around the corner. What do you know - I still received a $20 parking ticket. There were only two tables sat when I was there but at least 7-8 employees that seemed to be doing nothing but talking. I even noticed one of the cooks put a french fry in his mouth, which is pretty gross and against the regs to be eating on the line. Long story short I will NEVER go to Leo's Coney Island again and advise you to avoid it. Don't know how they stay in business.
