Leo's Coney Island (Downtown Royal Oak)

The service was great and the burger tasted very good even though my pictures dont give it justice. I also love eating at Diner. It feels Nostalgic and staff is very polite and sweet.

We dined in I am a female this was last Tuesday and I didn’t expect to see this. I was very impressed when it came to my table I believe my waitresses name was kayra and there was only one cook in the back he looked middle eastern had a nice high fade that I was getting my boyfriend jealous over hoping he would cut his hair like that. Food was awesome my waitress was great and I didn’t even realize there was only one cook that night considering the food came out so fast. All I know is, if we dine out again we will consider coming here next time also due to the amazing service and good food received

I usually don’t write reviews because i’m a server and worked for leo’s for a very long time but the service my friends and i received the other day was beyond horrid. i sat down first and asked for a water and asked how the night was going also let her know i would have four more joining me and my friend walked in after and the waitress came back and said “the boss just let me know we’re closing early” and i said “i thought u guys were 24 hours” and she let me know it was due to maintenance so i told her that was completely fine and we got up and sat outside to figure out what else we would want that was open. that’s when we saw more people head in and so my other friends she hasn’t seen went in and sat at a table to see what would happen. the other waitress there gave them a dirty look and never walked up to them. they left 15 minutes after nothing. we saw more and more tables go in while we sat outside the restaurant. we then had to eat in the car taco bell and watched someone hit our car which wouldn’t have happened if we didn’t spend 2 hours trying to figure out what we could do. i was feeling generous and going to give $20 for a tip for just my own food but i wont be back and since my boyfriend and i know leo personally he will be getting a phone call about the waitress with the black hair and thinner eyebrows who had the glitter silver nails. also the pictures are people eating an hour and a half after we were told they were closing and the food is on plates so not sure what is going on. the waitresses need to be kinder and not judge people when they don’t know them.

As of recently there have been these 2 white skin colored Arabic guys there. Until I gave these new cooks a shot I have been forced to go to the Leo’s in Birmingham, because even the buy one get one uber eats deal is not worth it if the previous cooker had a strong 90% of giving me food poisoning. Always got sick once I ordered and the previous cooks were working. I don’t know if the owner reads his reviews but please I beg of you do not allow this new cook leave this location is of walking distance from my house, it’s now once again the best place to get food again, if your hungry guys and stop by the royal oak Leo’s and you see a younger handsome white skin colored Arabic guy, you must try his food 3rd time I grab my Philly steak from him all 3 times cooked to perfection cheese is not over melted and the bottom of meat is not burned. I refuse to order food from here unless I personally see one of the two new cooks working. If your like me and have lived next door for 5 years and avoided it for the last 4, I promise if you order when these new cooks are working you will become addicted and fall in love all over again 😍☺️

Ordered through DoorDash on Sept 3 from Leo's Coney Island. What I received was shocking, the chicken fingers were completely burnt and inedible (see photo), and the fries were limp and underwhelming. This is not a DoorDash issue, the food left Leo's kitchen looking like this. Totally unacceptable quality. Won't be ordering from Leo's again.

The day we went I was greeted with a stinky smell inside. Food is edible but nothing beyond that. There is almost zero salt in my food. Bathroom is kind of dirty. It has a 3 star for a reason. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The food was absolutely excellent. It was a wonderful dining experience that the entire family truly enjoyed. Delina, the cashier, was exceptionally professional and displayed a strong focus on customer service, making us feel welcomed from the moment we walked in. Our servers, Courtney and Kate, went above and beyond to ensure our visit was perfect. They were attentive, friendly, and consistently checked in on us.

Used a third party sevice (Uber Eats). Issue with my order. The lady that answered was great. However, Omar, the manager wasn't there at 5pm?? Hummm. Half the food was trash. Had better two weeks earlier. Hit or miss, I guess.

This dining experience was honestly so disappointing. We accidentally dropped some menus on the floor and when we looked at the floor as we picked them up, it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. The restaurant overall had a very dirty feel. Our server's tone felt incredibly rude and made us feel like a burden whenever we ordered anything, despite us being very polite. I ordered curly fries and was disappointed when I found out they were out of them when I was brought waffle fries instead, but they were still good. I wouldn't come back to this location.

Yikes! I love Coney Island but this place is NOT it. The waitress, Jaya that served us was very kind and attentive. But everything else about the experience was awful. The woman who was so 'f*cking annoyed' (her exact words repeated multiple times) to be on cash/take out orders made a scene the entire time we were there. The bathrooms were also disgusting with no soap to be found anywhere.

Service wasn't good. I ordered one thing but was given something different. They forgot to give us silverware. And I don't know how people stand working there, it's friggin' freezing in there. I guess it's to keep the kitchen staff comfortable. All other Leo's I've been to are better.

Authentic Detroit Coney Island diner hot dog experience. Probably don't need to do it again, but the service was fast and friendly and the fries were hot. This is a diner, we had a nice booth in this neighborhood joint.

I've been a waitress for over 10 years, and worked at 3 different leo's locations for 5, never have i not tipped a server. Carryout/cash was slammed, waitress had 2 tables, LITERALLY 2! Apparently when the server is feeling lazy they get to decide what they're out of. Walked in for saganaki and a chicken finger pita, as one does going to leo's. No opa and somehow my chicken was cold, let's not forget the part where she had two tables. I've known this leo's was bad, but that was actually crazy to me. My $17 3pc fish and chips were two pieces with one broke in half, no refills and had to ask for silverware. 2 stars on yelp is so generous. Also bathrooms were disgusting, it was freezing and everyone working besides the cashier looked like they wanted nothing to do with the job at all. Sad to see a leo's like this

Chicken pita (hani they forgot the lettuce, tomato and sauce.) And a standard coney dog and curly fries. $19 via takeout me ordering onsite and waiting for bc they don't have time for phone orders. More importantly; I called to place take out order 4-5x times, and they don't answer or put me on hold endlessly, they need more staff, I get left on hold and just hear them dealing with customers in background bc they are in the weeds. Sad sad They pay a lot in rent to stay in that location, have talented staff during busy hours, there was a homeless guy passed out on a table, and 40% of tables that needed to get cleaned, and drunk folks everywhere, and a uncomfortable atmosphere to same the least.

If Aaron is cooking just turn around and leave....two nights in a row now I've gotten a stacked fry with tomatoes in it. Tomatoes aren't mentioned anywhere on the menu. When asked about it the second time he tells the servers with an attitude it'll be 10-15 minutes...I'm the only one in the restaurant dude. As a fellow cook you should be fucking ashamed of yourself for 1, fucking up a BEYOND easy order and 2, being an asshole for no reason if you hate your job find another one. I'm thankful there's some people there who have their head on straight it they were working tonight Aaron wouldn't be acting like that. It's a shame to see someone act so careless at a job where your main objective is to satisfy customers.

I went there recently and was asked to pay for my meal basically 2 minutes after they served it. I was pissed and said I've never been asked to pay for my breakfast while I'm eating it. But I paid and as I'm swallowing some egg my teeth go krunch krunch and it's egg shell scrambled into the eggs. I call waitress over and show her Then at the register I hear he already paid. A lady comes over no apology she asks if I want new eggs. I was in a hurry so said just give me a box, I got to go. Then the bill was over $23 for Bacon, Scrambled Eggs with shell in it, grits and coffee. Unreal!! I'm never going back. That used to be a good spot years ago.

I received a coney without the hot dog in it. A coney place, forgetting the hot dog lol. I ordered regular fries and was given chili cheese fries, so I threw those out. My boyfriend's regular/plain pancake was covered in cinnamon for some reason, the syrup top wasn't put on and there was syrup everywhere, and the pancake was sour. I think the batter was bad because it tasted like sour sourdough bread. Strike out after strike out.

By far the worst possible coney. We ordered door dash and got 2 different quarts of soup Lemon Rice and Chicken noodle. Both somehow tasted and smelled like dirty dish water. We called in and told them and the response was weve been serving this soup all day with no bad feedback. Then says I cant do anything you ordered with door dash so I dont know what to tell you. Its a safety concern dude your food is not prepared correctly. Now I look at the reviews and see the place is a dump.

We ordered delivery and were so disappointed, our pita was crumbly and the cheese wasn't even melted. The lettuce was almost all brown and they forgot the tomatoes. This location has gone downhill so fast in the last two years. Sadly, we will be getting our chicken finger pita elsewhere moving forward.

came with a friend and left within 5mins. shit service, over priced food and the blonde haired waitress with the mole on her left lip is a sorry excuse for a woman. very unprofessional, nasty attitude, passive aggressive behavior and snarky comments like "I can't split the check" and we didn't even order yet.. nor did I need her to. I see why this place was COMPLETELY EMPTY when I walked in. I've been treated better at McDonald's. if you want coney in royal oak national is the place to go not this piece of shit.

I used to love to come to Leo's but lately I'm not sure they even stay in business. I stopped in to the Royal Oak location... first it smelled like Dirty mop water... the whole place. And then you notice how dirty... I'm mean gross and dirty .... Man !! So disgusting

Never get take out/door dash from here. The incompetence is W I L D. Never once has anything been cooked properly, put together properly or been warm. You're thinking "then stop ordering from here" but how about BE BETTER? I'm a server. I get it. But holy shit dude.

Service was quick which was nice but we were served a few raw chicken nuggets. Luckily my boyfriend decided to rip the specific nuggets in half before either of us tried to eat it but safe to say I won't be ordering the nuggets here again

Leo's classics. Never disappoints. Ordered this on DoorDash and it was made fast. There was so much meat on the Philly steak sandwich that it was overflowed the bread. Yum!!

Waitress was pleasant but the place is Absolutely filthy and freezing like they had nheat. You can tell there is no one who cares enough to clean up while there is no customers in the place. GROSS! Wont ever step foot in that place again

Ordered delivery and it was inexcusable. coney dog with terrible nacho cheese sauce dumped all over it. The Coney burger burnt & cold and I live 5 mins away. Disgusting and will never order again. This location used to take pride in their food. That does not happen anymore

Service was super super slow, I feel bad for our waitress as she was the only one and they had one girl working carry out that was yelling at people and staff. Both of our orders were wrong, came out at different times and when mine got remade they made a totally different sandwich. Water dripping from the ceiling from the ac onto tables Used to be great and quick, no reason to come back now

I typically order a carry out large greek salad about once a month. On January 02, 2025 it was $11.49. On February 08, 2025 they increased the price to $14.99. AN INCREASE OF OVER 20 PERCENT in just over a month. The employee indicated Leo's raised prices on everything. They also now charge a 3 percent credit card surcharge. Lastly, the restaurant is typically filthy. I don't blame the staff....they typically seem understaffed and overworked. I rarely see the same employee twice which leads me to believe employees are underpaid or mistreated or both. I will not be returning.

Place is dirty. Our salads did not seem fresh. Fries were cold. Crispy burnt onions were not crispy or burnt. Our takeout order was wrong. Sad because we love the Leo's on Telegraph in Bloomfield.

I will be the first to say that Leo's is always good for getting in and out for a quick meal which anyone would expect from a Coney Island. I will say at my last visit one of employees behavior was less than desirable. Smoking weed while sitting next to the back customer entrance while yelling political based rants was not good look. I had my doubts about this man working at the restaurant until he came back inside and entered the kitchen. I know it's a Coney Island, but in the early evening on a Thursday I think we can do better, Leo's. Now our waitress who was new happened to be a total pleasure and she nailed the order without issue.

THE WORST Leo's in the metro Detroit area. All the positive reviews on here are clearly from the owner's staff or friends of the owner, spend 30 seconds in this place and you'll see what I mean. I've been in rest stop bathrooms cleaner than this restaurant. Every single surface is sticky and disgusting, even the air feels greasy in this place. I placed an online order, came inside at the time it was ready just to have staff standing near the register stare at me when I told them I have a pickup order and tell me that "someone will be with me in a minute". The restaurant was practically empty, why couldn't you have helped me and taken care of it yourself? To make matters worse I see my food sitting at the pickup window, without a lid on the soup, exposed to that nasty kitchen and dirty air for multiple minutes waiting for someone to bag it up. There were also items missing from my order when I got home, and the bag they put my order in had orange oily stains all over it, absolutely repulsive. Everything was lukewarm and the soup tasted rancid. I've had Leo's soup many times and it's not supposed to taste like that. This place is disgusting, dirty, and everyone who works here is miserable. Those winning attitudes will certainly get you far in life. AVOID THIS LOCATIONS AT ALL COSTS

Nastiest rice pudding I have ever tried. It was like barely cooked rice sitting in a small out of water. I didn't know rice could be chalky. No macaroni and cheese available even though it was mid-afternoon. Sweet potato fries were soggy with no flavor.

I had the absolute honor of being served by Bethany at this grand establishment, I have experienced many tales of treacherous escapades and late night bites at this eminent eatery. But one experience has stuck out beyond the rest... A server so dedicated to her craft, so much passion for serving the people she feeds. The woes of a young laborer, just trying her best to make it through those endless late night shifts. I could see it in her that they do the best they can. It truly was a wonderful experience being served by Bethany.

Leo's has a variety of locations in the local area. This one is unremarkable but can be relied upon for basic fare and a decent burger or salad.

My omelette was messed up multiple times. First with pork. Second one was missing ingredients. Then I was offered a refund if I give my account numbers to the staff and wait 7-14 days lol this is unacceptable So then I ordered chicken salad and was given uncut chicken bites smh large gross pieces in a salad! How rude! So I have to eat the slop or lose my money. I'm reviewing every page. Oh and no silverware given

I was very disappointed in this place. I know that it's been a while since I've been there but wow, it has gone downhill. The service was OK at best and the food was slightly better but I was scared to finish my food once I found the paper napkin ring in my water glass. The waitress was like oh and walked away. She didn't bother to take the glass or to say anything else. The bathrooms were absolutely filthy. I do not plan on returning.

Staff member took my carry out order and packed up food after touching cash and the computer! Never washed hands or put gloves on!

This place used to be a decent place for a quick meal. The owner or his son used to be there every day overseeing everything. Not anymore. Now it's just a bunch of rude young waitresses in their late teens/early 20's who have no business being in the service industry. Went in there for lunch today. There were 3 tables with customers, including my table. One table had already received their food, another had not even ordered yet. I finally got my beverage after sitting there for 10 minutes. Placed my order which was a bowl of soup. After 15 minutes, the waitress brought me a cup of soup. I told her I wanted a bowl. She said she'd bring it back. I sat there another 10 minutes before I got up and walked out. The other table (which still hadn't ordered yet after sitting there for 20 minutes) got up and followed me out. The third table was sitting there trying to find their waitress because they finished their meal 20 minutes ago and were just trying to pay their check and leave. They were very irritated. I used to eat here multiple times a week. I will never spend another dime at Leo's in Royal Oak. Shithole.

I ordered the chicken kebab dinner. The rice was crunchy and undercooked. The red sauce was cooked down to a paste and it also looked old. I told the waitress to take it away. The soup was cold. Never again.

Consistently the worst Leo's I have ever been to. The second you walk in, whatever appetite you may have had is immediately humbled by atrocious smell. Last time, it was far too much cleaning product (actively being used, directly next to our table as we were eating, mind you). This time it was a horrendous combination of dirty mop water and urine. I was in the service industry for nearly a decade, so unfortunately I'm familiar enough with these smells and know that that's what they are. With the smell being so bad and the tables being visibly dirty and streaky - again as if they had been "cleaned" with dirty water - my sister and I decided against dining in and opted for carry out. One of the servers (bleached, blond hair) seemed incredibly overwhelmed for a Sunday evening with 2 tables in the restaurant, yet somehow still very slow moving, and was even so overwhelmed and irritated that she grossly told a DoorDash driver who was waiting at the counter "move, you're in the way! People can't get their orders!" .... I just want it to be clear that there was absolutely no one else waiting for their food, except myself and my sister (who had been waiting nearly 20 minutes for nachos and a chicken finger pita). After, this server went to a table directly next to the checkout and began swearing loudly while eating candy. The food was underwhelming to say the very least. My chicken finger pita was the worst I've ever had. Pita was cold, chicken was cold, the cheese was not even remotely melted, and my pita had a large rip in it - which further confirms my suspicion that it never made it to an appropriate temperature. I'm not sure what's happening at this location but they need some serious improvements.

Not worth the money! I ordered the kitchen sink skillet which is supposed to come with cheese. It did not. My selection was hashbrowns, the hashbrowns were burnt and stuck together. My skillet was more like a pie with crust at the bottom. All the meat was dried out and overcooked. The only thing edible was my English muffin. Thank God they didn't forget the jelly

Stopped in for our "annual" spring hotdog. Staff was uninterested and slow to serve up our carry out. Ended up being served day old and cold hotdog with stale bun. Terrible. Went back and manager finally apologized and admitted they were old hot dogs. Will NOT be back.

We had some time to kill before seeing a movie at Emagine so we walked over to Coney Island. It's exactly what you should expect from a Coney Island. Food was delicious, as usual, but my cup of soup was cold / room temperature. Since it's a cheap Coney Island I just asked her to microwave it, what do I care? That's the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. Staff was super friendly.

So please is cool but seems to be very short staffed on Sundays and that may not be the best evening to go if you want to dine in.

Our second stop on mini vaca is the 24-hr Leo's in Royal Oak and our buddy Crystal. For the record, Crystal has expressed what an extremely cute couple we are. This is without the knowledge she's in our review. Here's a tip: by eating at 11pm you miss the dinner crowd and the bar crowd. We started with a flaming cheese (Saganaki) that couldn't be beat. Using the proper cheese scores Leo important style points. My gyro plate was flawless and eaten way too quickly. The Greek salad had a massive pile of beets and NO RIBS. Those two factors alone made the salad worth while. Iced tea connoisseurs rejoice, you will be pleased with the effort on this brew! I feel they use too much tzatziki sauce on the gyro sandwich. Since it's a very addictive sauce, I had no trouble finishing every bite. The yellow rice was exceptional. Cooking rice is an art form in and of itself. Leo's always manages to get it right. The waitstaff is remarkably friendly and professional. It's fun to hang with Leo and the kids. It's hard to get up and leave. In trying to find an imperfection to avoid a five-star rating...I found nothing. Congratulations, Leo's. 9/19

I ordered chicken wings and waffles. On the menu it says 3 large WHOLE wings. I received 3 wing dings that were very small even for wing dings. That's false advertising. Plus, I get home there is no butter or syrup so I'm stuck with a dry waffle since I didn't have syrup at home. I also didn't get toast and butter with my omelette. If you don't care and don't want to do your job, just quit!!!

Understaffed. It was a quiet rainy day, after 3pm so the lunch crowd was gone. The restaurant was quiet but the table across from us was a mess and did not get cleaned the entire time I was there. Ordered a coney and fries, fries were overcooked. My mom ordered wings and salad. Wings were good. Salad was just pale lettuce and big wedge of tomato and a little cucumber. To top it all off, parked at one of the new meters in Royal Oak, put my quarters in for an hour's time, was gone about 40 min and got a ticket anyway. NEVER coming back.
