Best Restaurants in Fredericksburg, Texas | Eater Austin

"If you want to keep lunch simple but still flavorful in favor of an activity, head to LeRoy’s Tex-Mex Barbecue, which is located on the same site of the family-owned Jenschke Orchards (8301 US-290). Enjoy Tex-Mex style barbecue, margaritas, and tacos at the on-site restaurant Leroy’s Tex Mex BBQ. Must-orders include the nachos, which are piled high with your choice of smoked meat, charro beans, roasted poblano queso, and avocado pico, and the Limp Brisket taco, made with chopped mesquite smoked brisket, queso, crispy cabbage, tomatillo salsa, and lime crema. Then, wander into Jenschke, where you can pick fruits like strawberries, blackberries, peaches, and pumpkins, depending on the season. Be warned: Peach-picking at Jenschke comes in high demand. Visitors must buy $5 tickets to reserve their spots, so plan ahead. Jenschke also features a range of family-friendly activities, including live music and a 5-acre corn maze in the fall." - Brittany Britto Garley

If you visit Fredericksburg and miss this place, you are seriously missing out. We visited twice while on our weekend getaway and it never disappointed. Our first time we had the freshly muddled margaritas with peach and blackberry and two tacos that we shared between each other; the Limp Brisket and the one with Opa’s sausage and sauerkraut. We were in heaven and decided we had to come back for breakfast. We got the El Guerrero (messy, but magnificent) and just a brisket, egg, and potato one (sounds boring, but even the potatoes had personality and depth of flavor). The tortillas for all the tacos are hand made fresh and pressed to order, so even the vehicle that your food comes in is absolutely incredible. The brisket doesn’t need to hide behind toppings - it is the star in everything we ate with it in it. Good lord. We then decided, you know what, we can absolutely split the smash burger. We wanted to try it and had to…and thank the lord we did. It was, by far, the BEST burger we ever ate. The way we sat in silence and just looked at each other with this hilarious silence of understanding that we would have to find a reason to come back soon. The staff here are friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The bar tender is awesome and the food is fast, hot, perfectly balanced, and worth every penny!!!! Don’t miss it.

Google
The food was outstanding. We tried a variety of dishes including breakfast tacos, brisket burgers, and brisket nachos—each one more delicious than the last. The flavors were bold, smoky, and perfectly balanced. Whether you’re starting your day or grabbing a hearty lunch, there’s something mouthwatering for everyone. The drinks were equally impressive! I loved both the Bloody Mary and the Strawberry Margarita—totally different vibes, but both expertly made and refreshingly tasty. The vibe at Leroy’s is relaxed and fun, with a casual charm that fits perfectly in the Texas Hill Country. Gus and his team go out of their way to make you feel at home, often taking the time to chat and share laughs with guests. It’s clear they love what they do—and it shows. If you're in Fredericksburg, stop by Leroy’s Tex Mex BBQ. It’s a true gem you won’t want to miss!

Delicious. Run don't walk to this temple of BBQ goodness. I've eaten here a number of times and it never fails to impress. Brisket nachos? Incredible. Carnitas tacos? Divine. The frozen peach margarita? Heaven. And on the plus side for those seeking gluten free options there is a lot to pick from here. 5 star plus food and people running it!

Google
Tasty food with the perfect Texas vibe. Staff is friendly, brisket was moist, and tortillas were impressive. The best pinto beans and mustard potato salad! Definitely worth a visit after picking berries at the farm. Raider power!

Google
Was one of the best Tex Mex places I've ever had, and I'm from the San Antonio area! Even my picky company said "Pretty Good". Also homemade ice cream and cobbler! And a fantastic bar for all ages!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you’re cruising through Fredericksburg and craving a bold fusion of Texas BBQ and Tex-Mex, Leroy’s Tex Mex BBQ is a must-stop. Tucked next to Jenschke Orchards on US-290, this spot delivers a menu that’s both inventive and satisfying. It’s a flavor explosion in every bite. • Smash Burger: Two brisket patties smashed and seared, topped with cheese, bacon, onion jam, and house-made smash sauce, all nestled in a jalapeño cheddar sourdough bun. Google
This place is extraordinary. The best tacos I've ever eaten. I went twice and had the limp brisket taco the first time and the carnitas taco the second. The nachos are excellent too. Very friendly staff that all seem to enjoy what they do. I can't recommend this place enough.

Google
The food was amazing. We had 3 different tacos, and all of them were good. We also had the chips and queso, which was very flavorful for queso. I had one of the freshly muddled peach margaritas, and it was amazing. We were too full to try the fresh peach cobbler.

Yelp
Tiny building, huge flavor! I almost don't want to write an overly glowing review because it's such a cute little (not so secret anymore) spot to grab GREAT food and enjoy the friendliest service, but here I am. You cannot go wrong with anything on this menu. Nachos, yes! Tacos, also yes! Enchiladas, daydreaming now. If you're passing by, stop in. If you're local, you already know.

Yelp
This spot was hidden behind Jenschke Orchards and was a great find on our way into Fredericksburg! You can tell this spot is a regular visit for people who frequent Fredericksburg or stop by the peach stand. The nachos and the burger were both delicious! My husband and i decided to split the two items and end of with a peach ice cream from Jenschke Orchards. The service here is super sweet and helpful! The workers had great suggestions and explained the menu in detail! Will definitely be back when we come back to Fredericksburg!

Yelp
My son and daughter-in-law treated me and her mom to a Mother's Day weekend in Fredericksburg where we had a great time making memories together. We made the rounds, but our favorite stop had to be Leroy's Tex Mex BBQ. We'd already had lunch, so we just sampled a few apps--but wow. The chips, salsa, and queso were so good. I honestly wish my local taqueria had Leroy's salsa recipe! We also tried the blackberry and peach margaritas (amazing), and the ranch water hit the spot too. We loved the vibe, friendly service, and reasonable prices. It won't be our last visit to Leroy's Tex Mex BBQ!

Yelp
At first I was skeptical of a bbq joint outside of Austin but I was so hungry after the 1.5 hour drive to get to Fredericksburg that I was willing to give it a shot. I'd have to say it's one of the best bbq places I've been to in a while. I dare say even better than most bbq places in Austin. It's an order at the counter and pick up the food yourself type of place. They had a pretty extensive menu but I opted for the limp brisket taco and the elote with brisket. The brisket taco was amazing!!! The meat here was just so well prepared. Even the beef fajita taco that my friend got was amazing. For the price of $6 per taco, it was pretty decently priced. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Fredericksburg to check out the rest of the menu.

Yelp
Very tasty selections and great service. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Everyone enjoyed their meals and what was especially good was the margarita. Made from fruit on the property, the blackberry was really yummy. Casual and not too loud, I'd definitely go back.

Yelp
OH MY GOD. We DREAM of this food from this place. We were in the area and starving, without having lunch planned anywhere else we decided to stop at Leroy's since it was close by and had good reviews. It was a hot day so we stayed inside to eat - but I'm sure on a cooler night its nice to sit outside. As this is a BBQ and tex-mex joint the brisket is where it's at. It's so perfectly tender on both the BBQ sandwich and on the tacos. We shared an order of chips with queso which was the perfect thickness. I got a brisket taco, and my husband got a brisket sandwich with a side of elotes (with hot cheeto dust) and potato salad. There was not one bad thing that we tried. We would go back in a heart beat, except that we live about 4.5 hours away. HIGHLY suggest.

Yelp
Saw this place on Instagram and thought a mix of Tex-Mex and BBQ would fit my family perfectly. Small inside but food was excellent! Great flavors and nice folks! The margarita flight was just right to change things up from all the wine. Had a Rita flight with peach and pineapple!

Yelp
Delicious food!!! I had the Elote with brisket and it was amazing. The service was good, you order at the front counter and then they call you up to get your food once it is ready. The building is a little small but we were able to snag a table. They have LOTS of outdoor seating but it was cold and wet so we didn't want to sit outside. Overall we enjoyed the experience.
google avatar

Lana K.

Yelp
Cute venue. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available. You order at the counter and your food will be brought out to you. The staff is friendly and helpful. We had the brisket, pork belly, and carnitas tacos along with the elote. I like Mexican street corn so I'll order it if it's on the menu. All of it was tasty, but I guess I missed out on the most popular item... Leroy's nachos. I'll save that for next time. I think this place is geared more towards families as it has a lot of open space, swings, corn hole and even an item on the menu for dogs. Overall, it was good, but not really a place I'd seek out again when in the Fredericksburg area.

Yelp
Amazing fresh muddled strawberry margarita and good tacos. Very friendly stay and beautiful atmosphere. We just keep coming back when in Fredericksburg
google avatar

Yelp
Away from the crowded main street area where everyone normally flocks. Happened upon this place while visiting the flea market that's practically next door. Nachos were great, with your choice of meat, we chose brisket, with queso Blanco, bell peppers, onion, jalapeño, queso fresco, Cilantro and a bit of bbq sauce. My husband and I split the full order which was plenty really, but honestly, if we were both super starving we could have each probably demolished at least 3/4 if not all of the full order on our own. They were really good. Glad they didnt go crazy on the bbq sauce or it would have been too sweet. You order the front and there's a bar at the back with a few tables in between. Bathrooms are outside in a separate building which is for not only the restaurant but also the winery right next to it on the same property. Would definitely choose this place over most if not all of the other restaurants in Fredericksburg.

Yelp
We were CRAVING some bbq when we came to Fredericksburg and we are so happy we stumbled across this place! It's more of a Tex-Mex spot but very reasonable prices and everything we had was pretty tasty. Our food came out quickly as well. I ordered the pulled pork which was very good but was not a fan of the coleslaw (just had a much very different flavor than normal). One of my friends was vegetarian and they were able to accommodate her needs there as well! There is decent amount of seating on the inside and also have some covered outdoor seating as well. Additional perks include it being right across from Jenschke Orchards which had a store that made for a Very good dessert with their peach cobbler! Overall, we had a good experience while we were here and would swing back by when in town again!

Yelp
First trip to Leroy's was for breakfast one Saturday morning and it was great! The Limp Brisket Taco as well as the Carnitas Taco were outstanding, but the carnitas was the winner. Tortilla chips with Roasted Poblano Queso and guacamole were great, cheese was different than most, it was very thin and runny, but tasty. That was Five Star visit. Unfortunately, the second visit was a One Star at best. We picked up a "to go" order which included a Carnitas Taco, Limp Brisket Taco, Chopped Beef Sandwiches and Roasted Poblano Queso with tortilla chips. The only thing that could even be considered good was the Carnitas Taco the rest of the order was pathetic as best. I could believe the small amount of DRY chopped beef and the mashed dry bun, less than a teaspoon of sauce on any of the sandwiches; just horrible and inedible. The Queso was even thinner that the first time, would even stick to the chip. And finally for the Limp Brisket Taco, a repeat of the sandwiches, the brisket was very dry and apparently been sitting out for hours before making into the taco. We did pick up our order an hour before close, so I guess we just got whatever was left over from the day, regardless of what shape the food was in. We might go back to see if they can redeem themselves, but "two strikes and you're out". Hopefully the second trip was an anomaly.

Yelp
We got our food pretty quick. The food was yummy, and they have vegan options. The restroom is outside of this restaurant but not too far of a walk. There's also a market within walking distance.

Amber L.

Yelp
10 out of 10!!! We found this place as a recommendation from an amazing server at Fat Ass Winery. We found it quickly! We smelled an amazing smell of bbq from the parking lot and we were immediately hooked! Honey and I ordered the brisket tacos, chips and queso, and Mexican coke. The actual place is sorta small on the inside but there is plenty of outdoor seating and activities as well.
google avatar

Troy B.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere with friendly service. We ordered three kids bean tacos with drinks, small chips, brisket taco and a small potato salad, $50 is very overpriced for what you get. Everything ordered was ok, but nothing memorable as would be expected based on their prices. Chips come from a bag, I've had better potato salad, decent tortillas and beans, the brisket was chopped and served with cabbage, nothing special. Again, very overpriced. Would hesitate returning based on this experience.

Yelp
Absolutely loved Leroy's! It was such a cute little stop. The service, ambiance, and food was amazing. It was fast and easy and reasonably priced. We went with a big group and found seating inside at multiple tables to escape the heat. I would absolutely return and would definitely recommend to anyone passing through.
google avatar

Steve P.

Yelp
A very cute spot. They also had outdoor seating - hard pass in this Texas heat. But the cash register ladies who took our orders were pleasant and good energy. Dined in. And the food came very quickly. It definitely was good!! My burger was a specialty burger on the chalkboard and I jumped all over it. My wife was very pleased with her order and the loaded nachos with added chicken was great!!!
google avatar

Kacey C.

Yelp
This is hands down one of the best burgers I've ever had. Easily the best food I've had in Fredericksburg. The smash burger was perfect in every way. The nachos were so masterfully executed. The ingredients were top notch. I could go on and on about the food and can't wait until I can come back again to eat my way through the menu! The vibe in here is so cute and cozy. We were here on a cold, rainy day so we didn't get to enjoy the outside but it seems like such a fun place to be able to sit outside.
google avatar

K J.

Yelp
In town for the weekend and stopped in here for a late lunch. My goodness this was amazing! The service was fast and it was a Saturday afternoon. Food was hot, and absolutely delicious. Salsa was fresh, chips were good. I had the brisket nachos and they were the best nachos I have ever eaten. My husband had the street tacos, brisket and pulled pork. He said they were wonderful. It's a quaint little place to come eat, play outdoor games, and have some good food and drinks. It's not in downtown Fredricksburg and that's a major bonus. Will be back as soon as possible!
google avatar

Hannah S.

Yelp
This is the best food I've ever had. There wasn't anything that disappointed. Nachos, tacos, margaritas and the pup loved her dinner too!
google avatar

Monica S.

Yelp
Our family came here while in the area for the 2024 eclipse. Some of the tastiest brisket we had in Texas! This is a fun spot with stellar outdoor eating areas and a menu that creatively plays on TexMex staples. Would definitely return next time we visit Fredericksburg.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Food was great but disappointed in the service. The cashier was rude not just to me but 3 other women in our party. She clearly did not want to be there. I love their Pica Fritz taco that has sausage in it. Their limp brisket taco was also good. Outside is a nice hangout and chill area. Inside is small but good for small groups.
google avatar

Charles B.

Yelp
Awesome, fun, casual, killer food. must eat here for real tex mex bbq. nice seating !!!
google avatar

Katie R.

Yelp
Yall! These breakfast tacos are BOMB! The tortillas are fresh and the brisket falls apart and is delicious. Everyone was very kind and the vibes are lowkey and chill. If you are in Fredricksburg, this is a must come place!
google avatar

Diane N.

Yelp
Amazing! Heard lots of good things about Leroys so it definitely was on list of must trys. I had the brisket nachos and hubby had the Wednesday EL Burger special. It was one of the best burgers he has had in his 72 years! That pork belly, the beef and all the sauces were a match made in heaven. The nachos were topped with lean brisket (I was afraid it was going to be fatty) chips remained crisp under all the yummy Queso and toppings. Absolutely LOVE that they use fresh jalapeños instead of the pickled ones. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Chung S.

Yelp
Cute local taco restaurant. My husband had the brisket sandwich and I had the carnita taco and a frozen margarita flight. So delicious!! Highly recommended!
google avatar

Michael O.

Yelp
I was going to pass but the smell of the wood that he was cooking with pulled me in. There's a lot to do at this property but the restaurant is small. The food is really good and the service is great. I will go back the next time that I'm in Fredericksburg.
google avatar

Ariel S.

Yelp
Great good, service and views! Try their 1/2 order of carnitas nachos or their large taco with Gillespie Gold BBQ sauce on any of them.

Chris C.

Yelp
5/5 Outstanding food and experience. The barbacoa was perfect, the fajita and brisket tacos were delicious, and the smoked chicken nachos were amazing too. Easy to order, got food quickly, and the entire family loved it. Even had March Madness games on inside. Very happy customers here!!!

Gloria L.

Yelp
Amazing service, very fast and accommodating! The brisket taco is out of this world. Did I mention they have the best service around....
google avatar

Chris J.

Yelp
Located just outside of Fredericksburn and Stonewall on Hwy 290, you will find Leroy's Tex-Mex BBQ. If you're visiting the local wineries, I highly recommend you make Leroy's part of your stops. While I am told the nachos are out of this world, my personal favorite is the pork belly tacos. I ordered them on my first visit and honestly refused to try anything else. They are that good. They do have a nice selection of adult beverages to go with your Tex-Mex BBQ.
google avatar

Lynette P.

Yelp
Great staff. Sliced brisket sandwich and potato salad was pretty good. You get a lot of brisket in the sandwich. Very small inside seating. Plenty of parking.
google avatar

Renee J.

Yelp
Leroy's is such a cool place with amazing food and such a cool vibe. The inside seating has a bar, quite a few tables and awesome decor for a barbecue spot. There is more seating outside. They offer counter service with a huge menu on the wall to order from. The brisket sandwich is huge and full of meat but I can't get away from the pork belly street tacos. A must try side is the elotes but everything is as flavorful as it is appealing to the eye. I highly recommend Leroy's when visiting Fredericksburg wineries.
google avatar

Tamara A.

Yelp
First visit several weeks ago - awesome food and service! We went for brunch and ate again at lunch. Everything was extraordinary. Second visit, just ehh on food. The chopped brisket sandwich was dry and had little meat. The sides were just okay. Several had tacos from the menu and they were good but not great. Gotta get consistent here!
google avatar

Dawn M.

Yelp
Omg I can't say enough amazing things about this place. Intimate, cozy and fantastic food. Pork belly menudo with ramen is to die for!
google avatar

Brittany M.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! Main Street can get really crazy when dinner time rolls around and just not worth the madness. We decided to give this place a try and it didn't disappoint. We loved it so much that we went two nights in a row. Queso, tacos, pulled pork were our favorites. They were super quick and the food carried well to go. They have indoor and outdoor seating. There is a bar inside as well so you can order food at one counter and drinks at another.
google avatar

Andrea D.

Yelp
We had incredible tacos and nachos here! Fun atmosphere and plenty for the family. Although just my husband and I just stopped in between winery visits, it's an easy choice to return and bring the kids.
google avatar

Jay J.

Yelp
Wow just wow!!! Looking for something to eat out in the Wine Country area and happen to find Leroy's on Google Maps and why not try it! It was amazing! The inside area has a big menu on the side wall and it gives you time to look at what you want to eat while waiting. Not a lot of choices which actually works because your food comes out hot, fresh and fast. I was not disappointed and will definitely look at sitting outside when it is less that 10,000 degrees outside!
google avatar

Anastazia J.

Yelp
The double smash burger was the best burger I've ever had in my entire life. The flavor was absolutely phenomenal. The meat was beyond delicious. Their chips and salsa. The salsa was absolutely so fresh. It was phenomenal. As well as the queso poblano I'm telling you right now that's probably the best queso I've ever had in my life. Flavors were 10/10 food 10/10 service 10/10.
google avatar

Don J.

Yelp
Fun, casual place for barbecue and tacos. Cozy dining room, featuring several small tables and limited seating at the bar, can get packed on the weekends. If that's not your style or if you're with a big group, the outdoor seating might be a better option. Order at the counter and claim a table while you wait for your buzzer to go off. Try the pork belly nachos for the best BBQ and Tex-Mex experience. Succulent meat and sturdy chips are crowned with cheese, jalapeños, salsa and other toppings. Half order was plenty for me, and might be a good choice if you're saving room for dessert. Street and full-size tacos are both good choices - yes, you can mix and match fillings! Full bar offers craft beer, margaritas and local wines. On select weekdays they offer specials like steaks and a pretty hefty-looking burger (haven't tried it).

Josh C.

Yelp
The CHANCHO LA PANZA is Top 3 taco ever. Amazing... love the flavors. A+++ tortillas. This place is legit.

Maddie V.

Yelp
This place is SO good. From walking in and talking with their sweet hostess to getting our food in less than 10 mins. & it was delicious! The owner here is a super cool guy, we really enjoyed talking with him. I can't think of anything i would do to make this place any better. We ordered the limp brisket taco, pica fritz, carnitas and chicken guajillo with a half order of nachos and we were FULL! Everything was perfect. We'll definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Sherry H.

Yelp
Excellent brisket taco and chips and salsa! Linen was great on helping us with wine and beer selections! This will be a "go to" every trip! Great TVs for a game too!!
google avatar

Laurie O.

Yelp
Leroy's Tex Mex BBQ is next to farm for picking blackberries and blueberries. This venue is perfect to sit outside and enjoy the views. My hubby had carnitas street tacos. He loved them. I ordered a brisket taco- it was big and delicious. We opted to sit and relax rather than picking fruit. However this is a perfect place to take the family. We had homemade blackberry ice cream from the farmers market next to Leroy's. We will definitely be back.

Pam D.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Highly recommend the smash burger. Food arrived hot & fresh. Service was very good.
google avatar

Daniel P.

Yelp
OMG, this place is amazing. So much better than what I thought pulling up to it, a hidden gem!! 5 stars!
google avatar

Annastasia O.

Yelp
I was on a road trip coming from Austin back to California and Le Roy's was on our way. We stopped hear as the peaches and bbq reeled us in on this country road. My friend and I were in luck as we arrived on a Wednesday, the day that their Brisket Burger was available. It was so good that by the time we received it, I forgot to take a picture, so you will see the area that surrounds. It's a nice stop and feature as there's farmland, an art deco (photo op) and my favorite was enjoying our meal outdoors on the swing set that can fit 8 ppl around. It was pretty busy and we arrived around 2:30/3pm!

Yelp
We have frequented this restaurant several times since they opened. Great food. Great place to hang out and have a cold brew. My wife and I have always taken family and friends here to eat and because it's great! But today we went and ordered our usual Limp Brisket. I told our friends that this is a special taco that we always get. To my surprise they have made it smaller. We used to get a half inch piece or two of brisket. Now I have to get a fork and try to find the "chopped" brisket. The old Limp Brisket filled us up and didn't mind paying the $8. Now paying $8 for this little taco, not worth it. Very sad that they changed it up. I'd rather pay $10 with two slabs of brisket than $8 for this little taco we got. Please change it back!
