Les Botanistes

"Not far from Le Bon Marché, this pleasant bistro is in the hands of a chef who does not cut corners when it comes to ingredients or taste! Take a seat on the characteristic bistro benches and dig into mouth-watering beef and shallots or a decadent rum baba smothered in whipped cream. The well-stocked wine cellar offers ample choice to pair with your meal. Friendly, tasty and casual – a winning formula!" - Michelin Inspector

We came in late and starving! The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The food was great, but the au gratin was so amazing we ended up ordering a second!

A really nice French family-run restaurant! The main dishes we got were really good, especially the lamb. The menu changes once in a while too. I would say I was absolutely AMAZED by the baked mashed lentil/potato I had!! The downside is that it takes a long time for food to be served. The place is pretty small so the seats are limited. The price is also pretty high (about 40 euros per person). However, at least the service of the staff are good, and they apologized for being slow. Overall, still would recommend the place if you aren’t in a rush and are down to try some home cook French food.

Food was very good, ordered beef and fish. But not recommend to order coctails here. 20 EUR for "Spritz Botanistes" is very expensive. 13 EUR coctail "Americano", 8 EUR for 250ml beer.

This is a small gem! All the food was amazing and the service was wonderful. Don’t skip the foie gras or the desert.

A small but proud restaurant, we were served one of my favorite meals in my memory. The filet of beef with potatoes as gratin was simple but executed with perfection. My wife ordered the squid risotto and was easily topped my favorite 5 dishes of all time. My son ordered the lamb with white beans.. where I learned how beans should be prepared.. exquisite. For dessert the chocolate cake that was great, but perfection was the almond cake with cherries topped with pistachio ice cream... unbelievable.. The service was great. They were packed, so I recommend getting a reservation. Our server was wonderful, she was very direct but with a smile. She picked our new favorite Malbec wine, which was paired with dinner. We look forward to coming back one day, thank you for showing us what food should be.

I visited here again on a special day. The main duck steak was PERFECT. we were once again amazed by your excellent cuisine. What's a little disappointing is that the decorations were too simple so i can not take pretty photos for instagram! the plate a bit boring. my only one complain:) I would go again. I'm looking forward to the summer season menu.

I Came back to this small family restaurant 4 years later. Menu changes often to the fresh products that are up to the season. Selection of dishes is limited and we hoped for a fish dish, but there were many with meat and luckily one with scallops. Ordered foie gras as a starter and it was divine! For the main I took scallops which were very good with a veggie side. My mom had veal with potatoes gratin. The veal was way too chewy for her, I finished it for her. I liked it but would prefer it was more tender as well. Potatoes gratin was super though. For desert we had apple crumble and it was delicious! I would add a scoop of ice cream to compliment it. One sediment of the evening was the price of the wine which we saw on the bill only. 14€ per glass of white wine! We didn’t choose it through menu. At the beginning of the evening the owner asked which wine we would like and we sad white and dry. And 3 glasses later we saw the price for it. Learning for me - to always ask the price from now on. And I would suggest to let customers know ahead what are the options of wines with prices. I am not an expert so i couldn’t appreciate it if the wine was some exquisite one for such a price. Other than that I would love to come back and taste future menus.

Google
Amazing. Found a local restaurant nearby the department stores and we were lucky to stumble here. Most of the staff only spoke french but they were super kind and considerate. The owner/ manager was a wonderful kind woman and attended to us. And of course the food was superb. Traditional chicken and beef dishes was rightly cooked and the potatoes were the BEST I’ve ever had. Will come back to Paris again just for these potatoes!

Yelp
A great local authentic French restaurant. Small restaurant with excellent food, and one of our best meals in Paris. Located on a quiet street in the convenient 7th Arr. Staff was friendly and English speaking. Upscale casual.

Yelp
Hard to describe... Its like going home and asking mom what's for dinner, but your mom is a one star Michelin chef that changes dinner menus weekly. We found out they open at 7:00 pm, but that is the French-ish nature. If your in a hurry, go somewhere else. If you are not sure what you're hungry for, just ask them to supervise you; they will. Strongly recommend the apple cobbler if Granny Smith apples are in season.

Yelp
Stumbled on this place based on Yelp review and wow what a gem! This was the exact dining experience I had hoped for when coming to Paris. A simple yet elegant restaurant with outdoor seating, authentic french seasonal menu and a place frequented by locals - check mark. We were able to get seated at a small table outside on a Thursday night without a reservation, however the restaurant did fill up very quickly. It helped that we showed up right as the restaurant opened. The chalkboard menu changes daily and is entirely in French. Thankfully the staff was kind enough to translate it and walk us through it. We got a very nice bottle of L'Opaline Rose and some appetizers (or entrees as is said in French) to start. The foie gras torchon and gazpacho were perfect. The foie didn't have any of that funk you can sometimes find in a lot of torchons in the states. It was served with compote and toasted French bread - purely delicious. The gazpacho had a much silkier texture than what I was expecting. Unassuming in presentation but very tasty as well - probably the best preparation I've had of the chilled vegetable soup. We also just got a green leafy salad which is worth mentioning as well - so fresh and better than the greens we are used to in a housemade balsamic. For entrees (or Plats in French) we got the tuna cooked on the plancha with tomatoes and eggplant as well as the filet of beef with gratin. The seared tuna, accompanied by tomatoes and eggplant dressed in pesto, brought out the rich flavors of this hearty protein. I know this dish sounds super basic but the flavors were so forward and precise. The beef was also delicious and that gratin - oh man! The meal ended on an incredible high with a duo of desserts that were exquisite. I ordered the almond cake with pistachio ice cream. I've had pistachio ice cream countless times but this was the ONLY instance in which it actually taste like pistachio and no that fake amaretto crap. This ice cream actually had the nuttiness you get from eating a pistachio. The almond cake was served warm and so soft and luscious. My wife got the flambeed apricots in a raspberry sauce with ice cream and crushed pistachios. I'm not a dessert person at all, but these two dishes even made me melt. Three weeks later I am still thinking about this meal. This food was exactly what I had hoped for when dining in Paris. I can safely say I've yet to come across French food like this in the states - I'm sure it exists but this caliber of contemporary French cuisine is special. To note, the waitstaff was very nice and accommodating to the fact that we only spoke English. I'll surely be back the next time I am in Paris!

Yelp
We we're lucky enough to have been staying at the hotel next door to this place. My husband and I left the kids in our room and went out to an adults only dinner. For appetizers we had the foie gras and egg and mushrooms, for entrees the rack of lamb and venison. We also had dessert, the apple crumble and tart with pistachio ice cream. I mean I know all the food in Paris is amazing, but it's not often that at the end of your meal you just want to restart it and eat it all over again from the beginning. That is how I felt. The service was also quite wonderful. Very well timed and the waitress spoke excellent English. We have 3 more days here and I have a feeling, we will come back here again this trip. This place is very special. Highly recommend it.

Yelp
Lovely little restaurant, with excellent food at a reasonable price. Friendly staff, an oasis in a busy city. Go, its great.

Yelp
Agree with other reviews, food and atmosphere were great, braised beef, scallops excellent, pistachio ice cream was great.

Yelp
The food was incredible. Coming from Nova Scotia, never thought I'd come to Paris to taste the best scallops. Well done chef. Ambience was great. Small place, menu changes every day, friendly staff.

Yelp
Superb! Just the right ambience and quality of food for a mid afternoon break between museums and shopping on rive gauche. A cosy space with a great selection of unique fare with excellent service. We enjoyed 2 small plates each and shared a delightful dessert over coffee and cappuccino. Some of the best vin blanc of our trip so far.

Yelp
My wife has a gluten allergy and unlike other food establishments in Paris these guys knew what she could and couldn't have. The first night we went it was so good we went back the next as well. The veal was perfectly cooked and my wife had a fish dish that had a phenomenal sauce. Our waiter was a young guy with lots of energy and would give us great details on how each item was to be prepared by the chef. We will definitely be back next time in Paris!

Yelp
I am a big fan of this place -- a small and intimate little bistro near the Bon Marché. The food was very well prepared with a lot of care -- the experience reminded me of dining in the home of a great chef, it was very personal and the service made me feel more like a special, invited guest than a customer. The terrine de champignons avec crème à l'ail was one of the best things I had in Paris and they offered Domaine Richaud by the glass. All in all made for a memorable experience. Hope to return.

Yelp
My husband and I had a wonderful dinner here on our last night in Paris on Saturday night. Our hotel was kind enough to make us an 8:30 pm reservation and it was right beside our hotel which was very nice. We shared a delicious appetizer of piquillo peppers with chèvre. We both had the steak with potatoes au gratin. They were really the best I've ever had! The staff was helpful and friendly. They helped us pick out a nice red wine to help compliment our meal. For dessert we shared the chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream. It was heavenly. I could tell they knew I liked my food as all of my plates sent back to the kitchen were all but licked clean! Ha. I definitely recommend this restaurant and I hope to return the next time I an fortunate enough to return to this beautiful city.

Yelp
Lovely, small local and French ! We were sorry we only discovered this gem on our last night in Paris. Friendly staff and delicious food! Only one other English speaking person in the whole place! We thoroughly enjoyed this little place!

Yelp
Incredibly rich taste, good service, great atmosphere, and excellent wine is a good place to bring your significant other, who is probably extremely lovely, because it's going to cost a little bit of money I would get reservations.

Yelp
We had a great dishes with great service and perfect atmosphere. Can't wait to go back. It is also hidden from tourists what is a huge bonus :) Please keep doing what you doing so well.

Yelp
*Updated 9/9/15 Still amazing. Best steak I've ever had. My whole group was equally pleased. Delightful experience. Stopped by as we were walking through Paris. I asked in French if someone spoke English and the woman serving was happy to oblige. She translated the specials for us and provided great service. The room itself was small and cozy, a great retreat from the rainy Paris day. I had the fish, which was delightful. My mom's steak was a bit dry but the potatoes were absolutely out of this world. For heaven's sake, try the au gratin potatoes. A bit pricey (it's Paris after all) but worth a stop.

Yelp
Had a lovely dinner with a friend at this small, friendly restaurant on a quiet side street near the Bon Marché. Menu items showcase quality ingredients cooked simply: for entrees: green salads generously topped with fresh herbs were fresh and tangy. We both chose fish for main dishes: a wild caught Dorado over braised endive for me and the cod over mashed potatoes for my friend. Both dishes were simply presented, highlighting sweet, fresh and tasty fish that was cooked perfectly. Service was friendly and warm and the waiters, though multilingual, were happy to let us practice our "restaurant French." Where are all the rude French waiters I keep hearing about? A fruit crumble and coffees topped off a great meal. For just under 120e for both of us, including wine, we left happy and full.

Yelp
Wow. I came to Paris by myself and just happened upon this gem. It's exactly what you think of when you think of the perfect French restaurant. Small, intimate, wonderful food, exceptional service. You can't go wrong here.

Yelp
I have eaten at Les Botanistes twice, each time as good as the other. It is a cozy room and you always feel like a valued guest, something that can be hard to experience in Paris. Run by a husband and wife team, the food is great, service is attentive. Tres bon Tres bon!

Yelp
Recommended by our hotel desk clerk; perfect. Intimate, delicious, professional, and boy was our waiter cute.

Yelp
Amazing, amazing, authentic French food, wine and desserts. Wine a little pricey for a minimized carafe. Staff is pleasant and accommodating. I did not give 5 stars only because we were there almost 3 hours as the service dropped off, dessert order forgotten?, in favor of new patrons. More importantly, I am still in a dream of the delicious culinary tastes experienced at this unpretentious, fine restaurant.

Yelp
Great small French bistro with warm staff and excellent food. Mushroom pastry appetizer was delicious. Duck slow cooked and tender. Steak with red wine mushroom sauce was perfect and scallops disappeared with pleasure. Potatoes and greens scrumptious. Warm chocolate cake with liquid center and apple crumble for dessert. Add a few glasses of Bordeaux and Pouli Fume and we are very happy customers!

Yelp
this had everything one could want for in a fine French restaurant. A classic French menu, with a personable waiting staff (they are a married duo) and tranquil atmosphere. I had the gazpacho and filet of beef. I honestly wish the gazpacho was bottomless it was so perfectly crafted! I didn't have the dessert when it came out (peaches they candied in house) but by the looks on my friends faces it was probably something heavenly. Please support this duo so they can be rewarded for the gastronomic joy they bring to their patrons.

Yelp
We stayed nearby and were looking for a late dinner. This is the quintessential Parisian bistro. It is unassuming and tucked away on a side street. The foie gras, pork terrine and veal were all perfect. Our server was attentive, and overall we had a great experience.

Yelp
One of the most delicious meals I have ever experienced. Every dish was beautifully prepared and the flavors were simply fanastic. This is a small, family run restaurant, recommended by the hotel, and it turned out to be our signature dining experience in Paris. Fantastique!

Michael Y.

Yelp
I came in here the other day, only to be turned away because all of the other tables were "reserved". I took a look inside, and only half of the tables were taken. Because it was raining, we waited outside for about 20 minutes for a friend to pick us up, and nobody else had come in yet by that time; reserved, more like reserved for non tourists. Disgusting.

Emily D.

Yelp
Came by this place after looking at all the wonderful 5-star Yelp reviews hoping to have a great dinner at this place, only to be turned away at the door because it is "reservations" only. They had three tables open that were apparently reserved for people coming in soon, but doubt that was completely the case. Had such high expectations for a "5-star" restaurant.

Yelp
This small restaurant was everything I had hoped for in Paris food! Very quaint and down to earth atmosphere. Dress is casual. The food is to die for. We had a cold appetizer of mussels in a curry sauce which was fantastic. Also tried the lobster ravioli - it was good though it was fried? Very good but I liked the mussels better. For dinner we had the pork stew, and the beef stew. Both were cooked perfectly and had an elegant yet rich sauce. This restaurant also had great wines by the glass. Had a Grand Cru champagne which was fabulous! Bordeaux by the glass was really delicious and was very reasonably priced. My husband had a macaroon with raspberries in the middle and creme and I was jealous because I liked it better than what I ordered (rice pudding). The service was good and the staff translated the menu for us. We went right when they opened at 7pm and didn't have to wait very long for our food - which is great because we were starving! Highly recommended!

Bob R.

Yelp
The mussels were tender and delicious. The green salad perfect. The leg of lamb fantastic. The service very nice and helpful.
