The Best Restaurants and Bars in Ahuntsic | Eater Montreal

"A stalwart on Montreal’s wine bar scene, Les Cavistes keeps up with the city’s young guns even after a decade of operation and a comparatively less central location. With more than 100 privately imported labels from around the globe, it meets the expectation of one bearing the “caviste” (wine seller) name. Those feeling peckish can opt for the happy hour oyster and bubbly special (two glasses and seven oysters for $29.50) or more substantial plates like the steak frites, farro risotto, or boudin (blood sausage) with a celeriac and artichoke purée." - Eater Staff

What a very lively and enjoyable experience. A local neighborhood restaurant with a great champagne and wine selection. The food is outstanding with many delicious choices ranging from oysters with champagne tastings to sweetbread or fish dishes with terrific sauces. Our server, Florent, was so very kind, attentive, with a wonderful sense of humor. We never felt rushed and could enjoy our delightful meal in such a comfortable ambiance. Thank you. Look forward to returning very soon.

We decided to have our annual Christmas outing among the lights on a more low key area this year so we decided to try. Surpassing all our expectations, larger than anticipated portions and delicious creative dishes made our night a memorable one indeed. A very complete wine collection, excellent entrées, soup and meats of the day, and wonderful desserts (we tried a few 😅). Everything was incredibly made and presented. An excellent choice for our holiday celebration.

I really wanted to love this place. The service was fantastic, great vibe, the food looked incredible, everything was fresh but really lacking in flavour. Maybe I've been too spoiled by other Montreal restaurants, but the taste just wasn't there for me (to be honest the fig tart tasted of nothing!) and I found it a bit expensive considering what I could get for the same price elsewhere. Great selection of wine and again the service was wonderful!

Good food but definitely not worth the price. The presentation was beautiful but the sauce really lacked flavour. I’m pretty sure the Brussel sprout leaves were raw and the artichokes plain marinated straight from a can. The service was fairly slow.

Went back in the occasion of MTLàTable. This establishment displays an extensive and complete wine list, as many red and white. I chose dishes to complement the wine rather than selecting wine to pair with my meal. The culinary delights were exquisite and the staff demonstrated remarkable knowledge of their vast wine collection. This bistro bar definitely lives up to its name "Les Cavistes".

Google
Retro looking bistro inclining towards a classic fine restaurant. A bit pricey though. It is worth visiting once or twice, but that's it unfortunately. Their food is ok-ish. I give, a rare for me, four stars to Les Cavistes simply the kitchen's saucier made a much better job then the chef who grilled my cheap-cut steak. In fact, the sauce was notice-worthy I should admit. I cannot say the same for their pasta, which lacked the essence of oily-spicy-aromatic textural balance. If not the sauce, what's in pasta??? The apperatifs tray was aesthetically pleasing yet harbored ridiculously small quantities. I simply was not impressed by it. During covid-19, they let you scan a q_code and the menu miracalously appears on your phone, if you will be moved by the action. Overall, I recommend this restaurant for the uninitiated to give it a try.

This place is a bit out of the way of you are in Montreal for a weekend. However it is a great place to hang and worth the detour. Great place, service food and drinks. The menu was diverse and the food tasted amazing. It is a fun area to be I too. Backeries and coffee shops before dinner and an amazing cocktail bar after.

Yelp
This spot is celebrating its 5 years in business this week and has been on my list for almost as long! I finally had a chance to visit with some foodies friends this past Friday, and let me tell ya, I was not disappointed! Firstly, this cosy bistro in Ahuntsic offers a delectable menu of classic bistro fare with daily specials at a very reasonable price. I decided to go all out with a three course menu starting with an onion soup, their renowned blood pudding and dessert. The onion soup was perfectly sweet and salty with gooey flavourful and generous amount of cheese; I practically slurped my bowl. The show stealer was definitely the blood pudding; perfectly seasoned with hints of clove and great texture, and was served with a tasty purée of fennel and Jerusalem artichokes and caramelized brussel sprouts that were to die for. Finished it off with a mint chocolate torte which was rich and oh so decadently good. The wine list at this spot is impressive; private imports and a great variety available by the glass, the waiter was knowledgeable with his pairings and even went out of his way to explain some of the appellations and offered insight on how we can get our hands on some bottles at a great deal! Besides a mixup with my starter which was rectified immediately, the service was smooth, friendly and personable. The rest of the group of 8 which attended with me that evening, also raved about the place; the daily special of lamb shank was a big hit with everyone! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for good food, great wine and a nice cosy spot with a laidback vibe; I'm already looking forward to going back!

Yelp
Food is great, service is very friendly and since they also import wines, the staff is very wine savvy, always nice to go back.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with colleagues. The place gets filled up during lunch so it appears quite popular. They offer daily special lunch menu which makes the selection quite easy and straightforward. Food, service and decor are all great.

Yelp
Really nice place if you love wine. Service is great, good choices of wine from all over the world, however for a restaurant specialized in wine I would have expected a more comprehensive choice of wine but still it's not bad. The food is great also, the menu changes pretty often so you find the same food every time. Steak and fries is great, the meat is tender and juicy, the French fries are really good and served with mayo. Overall a really good restaurant, I sure will come back.

Yelp
Fun Place! Classic Bistro fare. Checkered floor, with huge war times lamps. Service was excellent. Very interesting wine list (all private imports; good selection by the glass). The ambiance is cool. It's a simple, very good menu. A bit out of the way, but in a very nice neighbourhood, with plenty of free and easy parking. Go there with your friends for a good times and good food!

Yelp
Service was very VERY snooty. Maybe it was just a bad day for the waiters but I would give 0 stars if it weren't for the food. Very unfortunate considering the bill came up to over 100$!!! We were three at our table for lunch, two of us had the salmon tartare and my colleague took the steak frites. Once we we were done our meal my colleague had a good portion leftover of fries and a little bit of her tartare left so she asked for them to pack up her food. The waiter looked at her, rolled his eyes and said alright. We stayed there for another hour so my colleague got the little chocolate tartelette and ice cream. Once we asked for the bill a different waiter came with the wireless machines, he explained to my colleague how she should cook her salmon once she got home to avoid any food poisoning (she was bringing some tartare back home). She thanked him for his advice and told him that was her intention in the first place. Let me add that he purposely spoke loud enough to make sure the tables next to us heard every word he said. Once the bill was paid, instead of handing my colleague's credit card back he literally threw it on the table, thanked us without making any eye contact and left. Let me add that restaurant had a couple of empty tables, so this wasn't a busy day or anything to rectify the service. I wouldn't go back.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful restaurant, perfect for an intimate dinner. The menu is definitely on the high side, however, but the portions are decent and the food was good. Wine was excellent!
