Everything You Need To Eat In San Francisco This Summer - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Anyone who gets hot and bothered by the words “lamination” and “flaky layers” should prepare to spend many mornings at Butter & Crumble. The North Beach bakery excels in the French pastry department, including the best thing on their menu: a croissant filled with pistachio cream so thick it could take your fingerprint." - ricky rodriguez, lani conway, julia chen 1, lani conway, julia chen 1, julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1, lani conway, ricky rodriguez, ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1, lani conway, julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez

This place is AWESOME and the food is impeccable! And the staff is amazing!

Google
Passable Grilled Pork Banh Mi, light on meat, a bit heavy on the bread. Likely the only Vietnamese option in Japantown, a plus —though not worth going out of one’s way to visit.

Google
Service here is great. They really move fast for big orders and for the cafe size, there is variety. They are mostly known for their Bahn mi. It's easy to grab and go and ask for specific sweets. Do check them out!

Google
I have been living in Atlanta for 3 years and this is the best food I have eating in the US. The ingredients are so fresh and tasty. The service was incredible I'm absolutely in love with this

Aayush Tyagi

Google
Great banh mi the veggie one has some really good cha lua chay, wished it was open on weekends. Love the lady who runs it too!

Aisha Jamila Shah

Google
Great coffee and vegan options for the bahn mi sandwiches. I ordered the Veggie bahn mi and a carmel macchiato, and it was delicious 😋 Great alternative to the genocide supporting coffee conglomerate Starbucks!

A sign in the window does not update your Google listing to reflect that you are closed. One star for luring me over here while closed.

Google
The Owner makes one of the best banh-mi sandwiches. I choose the tofu and I LOVE it every time 😋 Fast, friendly service, and there are many other pastry/donut options available. Don't pass up this place! 🤠

Yelp
Came in for a breakfast takeout order. There was a small line but it moved quickly. Ordered an egg n (American) cheese on croissant + everything bagel w/ egg n cheese w/ onion, tomato, avocado for my partner + 2 OJs + a large black coffee for him as well -- only $24 for all. Huge menu of breakfast & lunch options. They have donuts and a banh mi menu toooo. Tons of drinks to choose from including some unique teas, fruit drinks, aloe drinks, coffee, etc. The man and woman taking care of the orders and register were so nice and packaged everything up very securely for me to walk around with. Our food was simple yet very good and I'd 100% stop by again if near the area *big smilez*

Yelp
They have my favorite apple fritter in The City. I like them when they're crispy on the sides, not too thick or dark. They also make a great banh mi. So grab yourself a banh mi and a fritter and that'll be one great lunch. The lady that's always there is very sweet and seems to know everyone.

Yelp
The days of a really cheap meal is over. A bánh mì for under $10 outside of the Tenderloin is a good deal. Small mom and pop place right by the bus stop on Geary. Nice clean place with several tables for dine in. A good sign is that it looks like they have a lot of regulars. The woman usually behind the counter is really nice and makes a good sandwich. I got a Chinese BBQ pork sandwich and it was very good. Nice combo of pickled and fresh veggies, and a tasty BBQ pork. My only wish is for a little more pork. This is a local place that we should keep in business.

Yelp
I am a fan! I ordered their chicken teriyaki bahn mi, it's packed with chicken veggies and FLAVOR! I love how the bread was crispy and light. I opted to add pate for an extra $1.50 which really enhanced the flavor. The lady I believe is the owner and she is super friendly. Their Vietnamese iced coffee also tastes amazing, the coffee flavor is still strong and not overpowered by the sweetness. To be honest I didn't feel to sit in there and eat as it's a bit dark but if you're looking for an affordable and tasty meal, this is a great option!

Yelp
Visited this spot specifically for Vietnamese coffee. It's a cozy mom-and-pop shop on the smaller side. I noticed they had pre-made coffees in the fridge, and added ice upon order. The coffee itself was just okay; lacked the robustness I was hoping for, feeling a tad watered down. I probably wouldn't return for coffee, but perhaps I'd give their banh mi or other treats a shot next time.
google avatar

Tien B.

Yelp
I ordered grilled pork and bbq pork belly (new on menu) and they were both delicious - crunchy, warm, filled with garnishes and perfectly seasoned. My new go to banh mi joint!!
google avatar

Johnny F.

Yelp
I'm only rating the Vietnamese Iced Coffee. Vietnamese Iced Coffee: I wanted a strong drink, both caffeine and flavor. This checks that box! I went with the Large because I needed something to really kick start my day. It absolutely did. Aside, they have a handful of tables that you can sit at or do some work. The Wi-Fi is pretty damn good too! Took a few Zoom calls with zero issues. Only thing is, it could get loud if there's a lot of folks here.
google avatar

Suzie L.

Yelp
Banh mi My husband and I tried pork banh mi and it was pretty good - nice salad filling and lovely crispy, light bun.

Megan C.

Yelp
A lot of different options which makes it good for breakfast a snack or lunch. They are super friendly and plenty of seating.

Yelp
Bussin' down frfr. Got a viet iced coffee and a pork banh mi. Ooooo boi, stop playing with me, was so good. The lady in there was nice too, idk if she's the owner but service was prompt and friendly. Good prepared p fast too.

Marina R.

Yelp
Amazing Vietnamese coffee!! Very quick and friendly staff- i highly recommend popping in this place for a quick bite or drink
google avatar

Joseph K.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall place. Lady in the front is attentive, just be ready to order. They always run out of the good donuts and pastries by 9 am. Get there early.
google avatar

Sara J.

Yelp
I can't speak for all the reviewers, but I come here for one thing- BANH MI! I actually discovered their sister store in FiDi before stumbling upon this location--which prepares all of their banh mi fixins for both. By far the best banh mi I have found in SF. Delicious, and the bread! Their baguette is everything. Authentic and not overpriced! Though, full disclosure, skip the boba.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome little spot. Was in line at the filmore for a show. Delicious sandwhich, cold drinks. Friendly workers
google avatar

Yelp
Order the & croissant, Vietnamese coffee . Nice friendly service, didn't take long and very fresh. I will return

Yelp
Les Croissants is located right near the intersection of Geary and Fillmore streets, and after walking past it several times, I decided to give it a try. I was craving a donut, and they did offer a selection of donuts and other assorted baked goods. This seems like the place where you go if you are looking for a quick breakfast or to get your cup of coffee on the run. Unfortunately, my donut was stale as all get out. I'm not sure if it was a donut from the day before, or maybe they don't make donuts on sight; in any case, even though my pastry was a relatively cheap purchase, the fact that it was not fresh (and that it seemed somewhat pricier than what I could get at a comparable donut shop) will mean that I probably will not be back.
google avatar

David Y.

Yelp
Hole in the wall -- awesome place for some inexpensive, no-frills, simple drip, no bull**** coffee and a donut to go (especially enjoyed the cinnamon crumble). Yeah, the pastries don't seem fresh-off-the-press as if someone in the back is constantly punching out new dough, but the portions are enormous (the donut themselves look like they're on steroids) but everything is so cheap and so worth the money. I spent approximately 5 dollars on a cup of coffee and two donuts -- a hearty breakfast that I was also able to share. I'll come back for the bahn mi next time.

Yelp
While I was working out in the Financial District, I had always wanted to pop in on their Embarcadero location to see what they had. I never had the chance to go in and started working out in the Fillmore District. As luck would have it, there is a Les Croissants on Geary and Fillmore! I ordered a lox and cream cheese bagel for $5.35 (a STEAL when you're used to paying $8+ for lox and cream cheese) and was extremely impressed by their other menu options; croissant breakfast sandwiches, bagel breakfast sandwiches, donuts, pastries, Vietnamese iced coffee, banh mi, and boba. I will be back for more!
google avatar

Jennie C.

Yelp
No frills donut and banh mi shop. Usually a one woman shop. Their boba is too sweet for me despite adjusting the sweetness level so I would skip that but their banh mi sandwiches are good. For now, they are only open weekdays.

Nina D.

Yelp
Do not sleep on the banh mi here!!! It's seriously the best in the neighborhood. The banh mi comes complete with head cheese and a lovely smothering of pate. I only wish they opened on weekends so I could order from there more.
google avatar

Daw M.

Yelp
Not a bad little stop to grab a quick banh mi. The service is a bit slow because there's usually only one person working. The boba tea is okay, but I would recommend Boba Guys down the road if you want boba. Cleanliness is sort of there. No wifi, few outlets and parking is impossible. I would only stop by if I get off at the bus stop nearby.
google avatar

Boba R.

Yelp
got peach tapioca and tasted exactly like you would expect it would. tapioca was old but like boba isn't their main thing so who cares. but at $3.50, including boba it was actually a good deal so if you want a smoothie come here instead of joe & the juice. but if you want boba just go to boba guys all in all though pretty good

Yelp
Les Crossants Cafe sells everything but froyo/ice cream: -banh mi, bages, donuts, crossaints, expressos, crossaint sammies. coffee: "american's best", passed eats: glazed donuts and maple old fashioned (.95) -glaze was melt in ur mouth, old fashioned pretty good. -not much selection in donuts. sold out? 4 stars crumbs: -not sure of rest of offerings -can't believe they make everything themself -very friendly, fast service with a smile.

Jadisee J.

Yelp
Great customer service, the owner is so sweet and makes the most mouth watering sandwiches love this place!
google avatar

Linda L.

Yelp
The pate pork sandwich was delicious. The baguette was nicely toasted and the pate and carrots were seasoned well.

Lin B.

Yelp
Amazing early morning croissants, donuts and coffee, as well as delicious lunchtime croissant sandwiches. The staff/owner are very nice, and the prices are so reasonable for SF. Doesn't get any better!

Yelp
I went back here only because I saw a Bunn Mi sign right front of the store. I thought the owner has been changed. I made a big mistake again. It smells like you are in a peep show. Do you know WTF peep show is? It's a small little room private adult movie theatre that you have to pay to get in. It used to be one on Geary Blvd between Pork and Vanness. I think it was 25 cents for a few minutes, about 30 years ago. There was a Pussycat theatre on Market Street and 6th Street, 5 bucks for 2 movies. Let's not get into too much info for WTF was inside of peep show, shall we? But I am talking about that the smell inside of peep show, in general speaking. It smells pine sol. But they, I mean who happen to be working at peep show, they have to clean up very often, that makes the whole store smells pine sol. It is very annoying smell. It's very strong smell that you don't even feel like watching porn. If you don't like feeling watching porn, would you fell like eating something? Am I been too ridiculously to concern about the feeling? Well, it shuts my appetite down, because It still makes me remember a incident that my friends took me to the peep show on Geary about 30 years ago. But I could not do it because the smell. The friends went in there, so I had to wait out side until they finished. Finished what? Let's not get into too much detail, shall we? The Bunn-mi was under-average. The baguette was too hard. But the peep show-pine sol-smell killed me. Also, it took her about 10 minutes to make 1 bunn-mi, while i was waiting, i just looked around thinking something to away from the smell, there were many old looking donuts and there were old looking already made turkey sandwich that the color of the turkey was gray. And I saw already made egg-salad sandwich right next to it. I don't think the glass-case was refrigerate. Walgreen's ready made sandwich looks better than this. I don't know. A real dumpy place, is making a jackass "KaKa" bunn-mi and smells. I made a big mistake and waste money, period.

Yelp
My buddy turned me onto this place. I'm all about the nasty breakfast and it delivered. I did the eggs, sausage, and grits. My buddy got hooked up with waffle, eggs, and toast. Everything was really good. The only thing I was not feeling was the creamy grits. Grits are a vessel for butter and salt...the cream thing throws them off and it's super heavy. I likes my grits plain son! Next time I go, I'm all about the waffles. What I really like is the location. I usually don't go to Western Addition unless I want to rock some Addidas at Harputs or something. Now, I can go get a nasty breakfast, buy some kicks and go check out other stores on the south side of Fillmore. I'm glad that neighborhood is coming up. UPDATE: ok, I had the waffles. They are not light and fluffy Belguim style waffles. They are tasty and will stick to your ribs. I think they would be better with real maple syrup...BYOS!

Yelp
Working this week near this place decided to try thier Vietnamese sandwiches!! Most say very good, my favorite is the bbq chicken ...
google avatar

Ruby V.

Yelp
Not too far of a walk from my office, about a 5 minute walk (one way). I've been here once and I plan on returning ! The banh mi is good. I ordered the chicken teriyaki banh mi. However, their selection is pretty limited. They do have a banh mi w/ imitation meat for those that are vegetarian or vegan.

Yelp
Ugh i wish i trusted the Yelpers and didnt come here this morning. Such bad customer service!! I ordered a egg and cheese croissant and went to fill my tea. Not knowing that the customer behind me ordered a plain croissant. Naturally i turned around and took his plain croissant, took a bite, only to realize its not mine. I went and explained to the cashier, and she insisted that she cant exchange a new one for the other customer! I ended up buying a new one for that customer but this experience ruined my morning. I will never come back here again. UPDATE: now i am eating my egg and cheese, i regret more. The croissant is chewy and taste and its 3 days old! WTF! The egg and cheese is meh. My breakfast is officially ruined. I shouldnt have cheated on my routine protein drink :(
google avatar

Storm W.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick breakfast and was not disappointed. The service was quick and food very good. I had the eggs and bacon with grits. Being from the South, I would like to think I am a total grits snob. I have found getting good grits outside of the South has been problematic. I was SHOCKED that this tiny, little place behind the MUNI stop had OUTSTANDING grits. Amazing. If it was 95 degrees, muggy with humidity around 95%, and not a flush toilet within 20 miles, I could have been in Alabama. UPDATE: I tried the grits again on another day and they were just as good, so the first serving proved not to be a fluke.

Yelp
Happy to find this place. A delicious cheap food alternative to Fillmore st. The lady behind the counter is very sweet and makes delicious banh mi. A great find! Minus a star for no wifi and no outdoor seating.
google avatar

Yelp
Anytime I see croissant in the name of a restaurant, I come a runnin'! This particular time it led me to an incredible cafe that offers much more than tasty croissants... though they certainly offer plenty of those! This place is breakfast heaven; croissants, doughnuts, breakfast entrees, killer omelets, bagels, expressos and coffee, etc. etc. If you're like me and drawn in by the name with a mouth watering for a tasty croissant I have to recommend the ham and cheese croissant sandwich. A warm, freshly made masterpiece of a sandwich on a buttery, crisp croissant with delicious ham and melted cheese that starts any day off right.. or is an amazing bite to eat whenever they're open! If you're in the area and craving tasty breakfast food, swing by Les Croissants Cafe and stretch that dollar stuffing your face.
google avatar

Yelp
The first time I went here with my roommate, I was so impressed... I got a Denver omelet and it was maybe the best I've ever had. I completely forgot about being on smelly, noisy Geary boulevard... forgot about the weird non-decor of the little cafe... and we both said we would come back here all the time! Sadly, the 2nd time I went (this time with my boyfriend) my breakfast was gross... my scrambled eggs were runny and tasted sulfuric, my potatoes were gross... ick. My boyfriend didn't really like his french toast, either, and said the coffee was horrible. So, I'm not sure whether I'll give this place a 3rd try. At least the servers were very friendly.
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
Ham and cheese croissant sandwich. Very nicely done, the egg was not overcooked and had a little runniness to it. Ham was luncheon meat and american cheese. Not gourmet, but okay. The coffee was a typical diner brand, not worth the price. Next time, I will have a full breakfast.
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
I went here the other day with my girlfriend, as she lives nearby....and I have to say....wasn't the best breakfast I've ever had... I ordered the french toast sandwich, natch, and was kinda disappointed....my eggs (scrambled) were still pretty runny, and not that great...my french toast was a little crispy (aka burnt)...but still edible I guess...although it could have been because I was sooooooooooo hungry...the coffee also tasted like it was instant coffee, even though it wasn't.... I haven't tried the donuts, so I can't really comment on that...but I can't imagine myself coming back here for breakfast.... Although, the service was pretty good. They do try hard. I guess that counts for something.

Vicky P.

Yelp
Nice people but the croissant tasted old and my cheese wasn't melted in the ham and cheese croissant. Bummer

Lea D.

Yelp
I'm Vietnamese and this is some of the best banh mi I've had in the city. The carrots are pickled perfectly, the meat seasoned well, and the mint fresh. So flavorful!
google avatar

Samantha S.

Yelp
Ordered a croissant sandwich, while very good, was expecting croissant to be a little more crispy. Satisfied overall though, very well priced. Will be returning for more breakfast sandwiches (:
google avatar

Derek N.

Yelp
I was in Japantown and had to park hella far to get my staples at Nijiya. This leads to my encounter at Les Croissants Cafe, where I parked literally right in front. Two choco-donuts satisfied a sweet craving, but nothing particularly special... So I guess if j need to get donuts and I'm in Japantown, I'll stop by here. Aigooooo. Oh yeah, they also have banh mi's here as well. Aigooooo.
google avatar

Herbert S.

Yelp
Considering how run down it looks, both inside and out, the quality of donuts emerging from this place is staggering. Krispy Kreme has nothing on this place.
google avatar

miriam b.

Yelp
Well this brother sister team are trying to do their best in this place that has been a BBQ place, breakfast place, soul food place and now...donuts, but just sad, sad, sad. Most people are just waiting for a 38 MUNI, or Golden Gate Transit bus here.
google avatar

Jordan C.

Yelp
A local cafe/croissant/donut place, that also has Vietnamese sandwiches which I am going to go back for. I've had donuts and a bacon-egg-cheese croissant breakfast sandwich (yum). What makes this a 4 star place is the service. Everybody there was all "Good morning how are you what can we get you no problem sorry to keep you waiting" with smiles.

Ally I.

Yelp
We were staying in Japantown and wanted to eat on the cheap. It was a little past 7 AM, so nothing else was open in the mall and we didn't quite feel like having the breakfast at our hotel. So, we walked around and found Les Croissants. It's a cute Mom n Pop type of place. No frills=perfect place to eat in the early morning on the cheap. I couldn't pass up the Louisiana Sausage and scrambled eggs special, which came with toast and your choice of potatoes, hashbrowns or steamed rice. I went Asian and opted for the rice. I also ordered a Chai Latte. The Chai Latte was a little too milky, but it was OK. I mean, this wasn't Starbucks or anything. The meal itself was pretty good. The sausage was spicy, the eggs were just right - not too dry and not undercooked. I wish the rice was fried, though. That would've made the meal better. We didn't try any of the donuts, though. The prices were pretty cheap compared to the donut places around here. I like this place and will probably stop by here the next time we're in town.

Vady S.

Yelp
Gross. Took one bite and threw the sandwich away. The guy who made my sandwich wiped his nose with the back of his hand also. Granted he put on gloves before he made my sandwich but it was still disgusting
google avatar

Carla O.

Yelp
great banh mi!!! The young lady behind the counter always remembers us and exactly how we like our sandwich, She is always cheerful and just a delightful person. My husband and I live around the corner so we are in here often. Great pastries too.
google avatar

Cindy W.

Yelp
Still greasy divey - just the way I like it. Tried the French Toast with 2 bacon strips and 2 eggs scrambled. Solid. Filling. I like how they ask you how you like your bacon. Right? I like mine crispy, thanks.
google avatar

Gary B.

Yelp
Not quite sure why this place poses as a doughnut shop. It is a dark horse in the neighborhood for a great bahn mi. Tangy house pickled veggies, fresh chiles, a variety of meats, and a pate that pretty much kicks ass, all on a crusty baguette with a sweet oyster sauce. These sandwiches hit every taste bud in true southeast Asian style, and at a price that even I can afford. I find myself returning to this little place again and again.
