Les Enfants Rouges

"Once upon a time, a Japanese chef, fresh from his apprenticeship with Yves Camdeborde and Stéphane Jégo, opened a characteristic Parisian bistro, serving heart-warming market-fresh Gallic fare. Duck terrine in aspic paired with plum and cucumber pickles; tempura of line-caught croaker with a seaweed dashi stock, cabbage and broad beans; baba with vintage Martinique rum and chantilly cream… And the icing on the cake, it's open at weekends." - Michelin Inspector

Food Guide

Google
The food at Les Enfants Rouges was absolutely stunning every dish was beautifully crafted and full of flavor. A true testament to the chef’s talent and passion. The wine selection was equally impressive, perfectly curated to complement the menu. The cosy, intimate atmosphere adds to the charm it truly feels like a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Paris. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a memorable culinary experience!

Delicious adult food - Japanese/French. Great with kids. Kids menu was fancy breaded chicken with fries - excellent. Litchi dessert was OUT. OF. THIS. WORLD. Very small space off of a main street so not much of an atmosphere.

Google
A friend who lives in Paris introduced the restaurant to us few years back. Since then, it becomes a go-to place whenever we’re in Paris, this is our 5th time last night. Consistency of food quality is the key reason why we keep come back again. Service is welcoming and not too much. Seasoning of food is brilliant, we can taste each ingredient on the plate, and the food temperature is so well controlled. The artisan level of plating also make me wonder why they aren’t Michelin yet! Highly recommended! :-)

Google
Wow. Second time here and was not disappointed. The food is simply fantastic. Very well prepared and the blend of flavors is amazing and a delight to discover. Don't miss out on the San Sebastian cheesecake! The service is also excellent and elevates the whole experience. Must go!

Google
Les Enfants Rouges is a casual, cozy and lively restaurant with everyone comfortably seated in a way that really maximizes the space. The menu is set and everyone at the table gets a starter, main and dessert. The menu is simple but each dish is absolutely incredible. I would strongly recommend having everyone at the table order something different so you can try as many items as possible!

I’ve been in Paris for a week doing nothing but walking and spending a lot (A LOT) of money on food. I’ve hit the high-end (read: touristy) spots, a bunch of local favorites, and quite a few hidden gems recommended by fellow food enthusiasts who love food as much as I do. This place? It came from an offhand recommendation from a friend: “Oh, you’re staying near this cute little spot we love—if you have time, check it out…” It ended up being the best meal I’ve had in Paris. Maybe everyone else was having an off week, or maybe the squash blossoms were just especially fresh at the market... but this place is on track for serious recognition in the next few years. Every dish was balanced, thoughtful, inventive, and gastronomically impressive without being trite or trying too hard. Maybe it’s on me for not reading more rave reviews ahead of time, but wow. Just… Wow. From a seriously jaded foodie who never writes restaurant reviews online: Hats off to the chef. I truly hope I get to eat your food again soon. Actually, maybe I'll stop by for lunch tomorrow. PS - Unsolicited advice if you're reading this: the waitstaff was excellent. As for the dining room—could use a little ambiance but keep it true to your vision. Stay small, stay in the kitchen, and don’t fall for investors. You got this as you are now.

Google
Our second time in Les Enfants Rouges was interesting. Definitely reserve your table in advance, the place is packed. Cozy atmosphere. Staff is super nice. Best dish-desert. Both Pavlova and Cheese cake were superb. Lamb chops were delicious. Neither of the entries deserve a mention, thus 4 stars.

Yelp
Atmosphere- lively. Unfortunate amount of smokers but maybe it was because of the rugby World Cup and Saturday night Service- attentive and friendly Food- excellent. We were here in 2021 and again in 2023. It is great food and if your dining partner disagrees you. Can get food from another restaurant in the market ( the Moroccan one is great)

Yelp
What a great idea to have a french/japanese fusion restaurant with a japanese chef! Some of the dishes were absolutely killer, like the seared tuna served over a seaweed/dashi sauce, the sweetbread main course, and the lychee mousse over grapefruit. Would love to see a more differentiated pairing option, like instead of just french wine, could mix french wine with some sake perhaps. But that's a minor personal preference, would definitely come here again!

Yelp
This place is much more than good from the standpoint of how special the cuisine is. The food is sublime, but the space lacks charm and the wait staff host with Japanese courtesy, mixed with a rushing that belies other places that offer la belle vie de Paris.

Yelp
Highly recommend! We made a reservation for a Friday night and the place was packed. The food came out in a timely manner and was so delicious! The pigeon was one of the best we've had in Paris. Great for date night or a night out with friends, but if you're looking for a quiet place with privacy, I'd probably look elsewhere.

Yelp
Delightful food with a few surprises thanks to Asian, but also omnivore twists. The space is a little generic, but the service is attentive without being overweening: one of our party was VERY late, and yet we felt no pressure to order faster. Just a bit expensive -- rapport qualité/prix is pulled (one star) down by the price factor.

Yelp
This restaurant is a hidden spot that is such a delight to find. It is Japanese-influenced French food with charming bilingual wait staff (French and Japanese). The wine list is interesting with some sake based cocktails and French rice wine. The "assemblage" was a perfect accompaniment to the foie gras starter. Onion mousse amuse bouche, "chirashi" first course, light tempura white fish for main and amazing cherry dish for dessert. I would certainly go back!!

Yelp
(Visit was in 2014; somehow I didn't review it! Luckily I still have my signed menu to help me out!) This was an up-and-coming place in 2013/2014 and I knew I wanted to try it out. Luckily, we were in the Marais during the day and popped in for lunch. The place wasn't super easy to find, as you might think that it's in Market des Enfants Rouges, but it's about a block over. Thankfully for us, the chef's wife speaks enough English that we were able to communicate. The menu changes, so there's no need to go into detail about the food we enjoyed. The restaurant prepares modern French cuisine with some Japanese flair. Also, the place is pretty small! If you're going for dinner, definitely get a reservation!

Yelp
A friend recommended this place. It's a cute small place with a Japanese chef, and all of the staff was Japanese. Wines were super reasonable. You can do a 4 course pre fixe or the 6 course carte blanche for €75. We went with the tasting, which was basically their pick of highlights off their regular menu. They did ask if we had any particular dishes that we were interested in. Amuse: Foie gras on toast with lemon sauce Carte blanche tasting: 1. Gazpacho with burrata mousse and tomatoes, fennel, and black cherries - very refreshing 2. Salmon crudo with cumin crumble, salsify remoulade, shallot and cornichon vinaigrette 3. Lightly breaded and fried monkfish, aubergine, spinach, Roquefort white wine sauce 4. Beef bourginon with porcini mushrooms 5. White and red grapefruit with lychee gelee, granita, and lychee mousse 6. Fresh figs with matcha mousse and yogurt ice cream In true Japanese fashion, service was ultra polite. Food presentation was beautiful and with lots of nice details. As opposed to traditional French food, all the dishes were lighter, especially the desserts. Reservations are usually by phone, but they answered right away via Facebook messenger (easier if you're international). Les Enfantes Rouge is definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Well, for the first time I can remember - the food was so good I cried, OK it had something to do with us being in Paris for the first time in 4 years and out on a very chilly, romantic eve in the Marais. BUT, we both agreed it was one of the best meals we've had in a long time. We sat at the bar which gave us the cat bird seat into the kitchen, amazing team and great service all around. I had the veal, Ameo the squid ink fish of the day, can't remember everything else but the desert was exquisite - great bottle of Burgundy Pinot to accompany everything - what a gem in the Marais, our highest recommendation.

Yelp
We are here back in September but I forget then to post a review. We tried to get in one night for dinner but did not have a reservation so were not able. The waitress graciously sent us to another nearby place she recommended that was great. But we still wanted to try Les Enfants Rouges as it had great reviews. We called and made a reservation for lunch the following day and when we arrived, the waitress recognized us and seemed sincerely glad we made it back, with a reservation, and seated us. She, and another waitress, were so attentive and helpful and helped us to read the menu (neither of us speak much French). We were so happy with our meals -- they were excellent. It was one of the best meals we've had in Paris, both because of the food and the exceptional service.

Yelp
The food here tries very hard to be innovative as it mixes some japanese cooking ingredient cooking style with the french but the result is not all that exciting. We came here on a Saturday night with reservations and was seated in a pretty dingy looking environment. Just as the decor, the drinks offering is pretty bare bones as well. A lot of wine selections and some aperitif - nothing else. We opted for two glasses of wine and then the 39 EUR menu that comes with a starter, main, and dessert. The lightly seared daurade sashimi starter would have it been okay if it wasn't on top of raw brussel sprouts were lemoney flavour. I got a rabbit soup that tasted pretty asian with asian nuts and fruits but no rabbit that can be seen. For mains, my compte of pork seemed like it was full of root vegetables my mom couldn't use and chopped it all up in pot, which would have been fine if it didn't have mussels and sea foam on it. Pork and sea foam = weird. And then I was given a bowl of potatoes puree for that dish. I think the only missing weird side that could complete this dish is a plate of of onions and seaweed. My boyfriend's calamari risotto was slightly more pleasant with the risotto stuffed in a giant calamari, but it didnt taste like anything special. For dessert, the matcha tiramisu was not tiramisu at all but some kinda we weird raspberry cake with matcha ice cream. And we got a sponge cake that was drenched in sugar and rum. The service is inconsistent as well, with the servers constantly coming to take away your plate before you are done. People are nice, but I didn't walk away feeling like having had a pleasant experience.

Yelp
Small, up and coming restaurant in Paris that is not super touristy, at least not yet. The menu changes daily so I won't go into the details of dishes, however just know you will get super high quality dishes at low prices relative to other places in Paris. Since it is not touristy be prepared to speak French, or like we did fumble through as much as possible with the EXTREMELY kind chef's wife who was serving us. Get there soon, before they get so popular they will have to raise prices. Reservations are a must.

Yelp
Delightful restaurant! You do have to look for it. It is not in Market des enfants rouges. Well worth the extra walk away from market. I highly recommend reservations. I got the last spot at the bar. They turned people away. Owner's wife speaks English well enough to explain dishes. I read some french but it made it so easy to order. I had cold asparagus soup--it was scrumptious and flavorful. The beef dish -see picture--fell apart because it was so well done. The flavors blend perfectly to create a truly enjoyable meal. The dessert was sweet and tangy--chocolate mousse topped with lemon meringue and flaky crust creates a crunch to the smooth textures of the mousse and meringue. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Omg people, don't hesitate, pls try this place. Reservation is highly recommended - they don't seem to have any spots for walk-in. However, they're amazing. Amazing food, amazing service.

Yelp
This is 4.5 stars. Good value at Eu 38 for a great three-course dinner. In both the front of the house and the kitchen staff are Japanese. This is part of the new trend of top-notch "bistronomie" (casual chic) restaurants launched in Paris by foreigners who show the French guys how it's done properly. French restaurant owners and chefs better start paying attention fast, and stop serving canned food. Decor is bare but not a turn-off. Service was congenial and caring, but became slow and a bit frazzled when the place was in full swing. All our dishes were excellent: the marinated salmon app was great, the black pudding was well executed but my wife expected it would be a hot spicy black pudding in the style of the Caribbean, so she was disappointed by this cold version, but there was nothing wrong with the recipe. My pork was juicy and tender, and the mushrooms were fresh and flavorful. Too bad the dish was so small for a main. My wife's duckling was bursting with flavor, and a bit more hearty. And then there was the bread... Oh, sweet Jesus, the bread... I would come back tomorrow for that bread. Thick slices of ultra-fresh hearty wholewheat sourdough bread. Unbelievable. The wine selection was good, with a couple of very nice wines by the glass. The only negative was the dessert list: small choice, and not exciting. It seems that the rum-soaked "baba" cake is their signature dish, and you have to order it at the beginning of the meal. We did not, because we wanted to try the chocolate "moelleux", but it turned out to be misleading. This was a cold flourless chocolate ganache. It was well executed and it came with a raspberry sorbet, which provided the necessary acidity to cut through the fat of the ganache. Overall, the dish was balanced and worked, but it's not a moelleux (= moist cake, possibly melting in the middle), and we would not have ordered it had we known what it was. The place was packed and they turned down a few passerby visitors. This restaurant opened 6 months ago and is still under most people's radar, but it will become a very hard-to-get joint by the end of the Summer. Book in advance.

Yelp
This place was great. 5 days in Paris, and ate a lot of good food, but this was the highlight. We went here for lunch on the last day. Seasonal menu, interesting drinks (pear cider from Normandy, a Loire Valley beer). The highlight of the meal was a rabbit parmentier, with celery root purée instead of potatoes, and with a cocoa bean sauce. Amazing. A great starter of sea bass sashimi, a wild boar pâté with pickled veggies, not just cornichons--a nice attention to detail. Delicious.

Yelp
After checking some reviews I called this restaurant 20 minutes in advance of my preferred booking time, 2000 on the Sunday. All tables were taken but they were able to accommodate me at the bar (comptoir). From amuse-bouche to desert the food was well presented and tasty, the service friendly and efficient, and there was a good range of wines by the glass (and some half bottles) to suit the lone diner! I had a wild rabbit soup (pictured on Yelp) to start and a small tarte tatin (photo uploaded) for desert - both were "to die for". The main ballotine of chicken was slightly disappointing. - lovely sauce of delicate shiitake mushrooms, spinach, asparagus and herbs but I found the chicken (meat and skin) for my liking (perhaps the Brit in me) so overall that course was slightly disappointing. Despite some japanese influences, the menu is unmistakably french. Evening set menu price is arguably on the high side but probably not for the quality.

Yelp
Food was fantastic, but unfortunately their CC machine was not working that night. We had a party of 8 with a rather large bill. I wish they told us in advance because it became super awkward at the end of dinner. They said the issue was happening all night, but they made no mention of it to us. Anyway, they kept insisting that we walk to the ATM to withdraw money to pay, but our the bill exceeded our daily limits. They finally allowed us to leave what cash we had, our driver's license, and credit card. We told them we'd be back the following day to pay the remaining amount, but they showed up at our Hotel first thing in the AM and told the front desk they were here to collect money. Thanks for making it look like we skipped out on the bill!

Yelp
If you are traveling from abroad don't go here. Pretty lame and not worth one of your few precious nights out. No ambience. Kind of weird food. We came here on the recommendation of our food tour guide - who was pretty weird herself so maybe should not have been surprised. Also has a bad wine list.

Yelp
We loved this place! Everything was just perfect! We called two days in advance, hoping to get a table at this hot Paris restaurant during a last-minute trip. They said they could accommodate us at the bar, but then called to say they could get us a table. Super! The restaurant itself is super small and super cute - maybe 10 tables. It is my idea dining experience - casual enough so it doesn't feel stuffy and yet the food is of a top top quality. They have a set menu - 3 courses + an amuse bouche for 38 EUR. Amazing value for money! My partner had a lot of meat, which she absolutely loved. There were some fun elements, such as broth boba pearls in her soup. I'm a vegetarian and they created a menu on the spot for me. I had an egg with mushrooms and some lovely foam for my first course and then a bunch of yummy veggies and a micro salad for my second course. My amuse was the tastiest carrot mousse! My only suggestion would be that they had some vegetarian options to the actual menu!! We both had super tasty desserts, which included the most delicious poached cherries. The service was excellent and the ambience perfect for a romantic dinner! Loved it and will definitely return during our next trip to Paris!

Yelp
Fabulous delicious food for foodies and warm attentive service in a small, simple place in the Marais. Husband and wife duo. My husband and I are serious cooks from NYC and this is the kind of inventive, flavorful food we look for In Paris to swoon over--heart warming and not precious or fussy, amazing tastes. Dinner 50eu for 3 courses. Starters were fabulous. The sweetbreads and the veal stew were really wonderful. We liked Les Enfants better (and at half the price) than the one star the previous night.

Yelp
Damn, I wanted to be the first to review this place. We had caught wind of it from a food critic in Paris that we met at L'Avant Comptoir. He said this was the up and coming place to eat in Paris right at that moment. We took his word for it, and went for Midi (lunch). A brief history on the name and it's owner- Les Enfants Rouge translated means Market of the Red Children. Red is the color of charity, and it takes it's meaning from children who were cared for from a nearby orphanage. To find this restaurant is slightly tricky. There is a market that shares the same name market in French is "Marche", so if you google to find the address of the restaurant, take care to note that. The chef that opened this restaurant is Dai Shinozuka. He used to work for chef Yves Camdeborde at L' Comptoir Relais. (which is the restaurant attached to L'Avant Comptoir .owned by the same people, as L'Avant Comptoir, which is a different setting next door). Chef Camdeborde was very supportive in Shinozuka's opening his own place, he is considering an exceptional Chef (Think Jiro Dreams of Sushi, only in french cuisine). The food was presented as such- Plat, Entrée, Dessert (Menu) Ran around 35 Euro, and was exceptional. I will post pictures later. Everything was a work of art, and an explosion of tastes. The restaurant itself is very small, holding about 20 people comfortably, but it makes for an intimate setting that you can tell is family owned and run. His wife is even there to greet you at the door, and helps to serve tables. As far as the food goes, you get the feeling that Dai's hands have made every course you are biting into. Beautiful, elegant and awesome. The next time we are in Paris, we will go for dinner. I would hurry and book it soon, the word isn't out yet, and when it spreads, it will be tough to get a table. In the words of the food critic we met "Years from now, when people are talking about when this restaurant opened and they will be, you can say you were there when it all began, and you will not want to miss that opportunity". He was right. Some tips- To save on your bill go for the wine offered by the carafe. Runs about 14 euros for 100ml.

Nazmi E.

Yelp
I think they are trying too hard. None of the food really stands out. Seating arrangements are crammed. We were disappointed. It's pricey for the type of food you get. We have somewhat higher expectation as this restaurant was recommended by our hotel. I wouldn't waste your time and money here.

Jo K.

Yelp
This restaurant is hidden away from the busy market next block over but it's definitely worth looking for. It's a clean modern take on French cuisine with a Japanese touch to it. Everything we ordered was delicious from start to finish. The server was very sweet, taking her time to translate the menu and to answer all our questions. I was able to try a cold asparagus soup which was so refreshing on a hot day, and I got the squid ratatouille that I devoured and secretly didn't want to share with anyone. I also ordered a sea bass dish that was delicious and ended the meal with fresh strawberries and ice cream. I can't wait to go back here when I'm back in town.

Yelp
Unpretentious yet welcoming and cosy enough atmosphere... The real deal is in your plate though. I very much enjoyed the starters, but count on the main courses to stop you in your tracks. I enjoyed some of the best sweetbreads dish ever: it was a very generous portion, subtle, cooked to perfection, and neither tasted salty nor saucy. The service was attentive, kind, and smiley. Understated Japanese perfection cloaked under a delicious French meal. 5* :)

Yelp
Good value Bistro owned by Japanese couple. I'd like to visit this place again when I come to Paris.

Yelp
Pleasant, interesting food and honestly perfect service. Wonderful evening... I'd go back for sure!
