Hotel Les Hautes Roches (Rochecorbon, Centre-Val de Loire) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Many of the Loire Valley’s elegant châteaux were constructed with limestone extracted from the region’s famous troglodyte caves. Some of those caves were historically used as private dwellings or wine cellars, and a particularly large one, located on the banks of the Loire River in Rochecorbon, was home to a monastery. It’s since been transformed into Hotel Les Hautes Roches, the first luxury hotel of its kind in France, with pretty landscaped gardens framing an outdoor pool on the riverfront and low-lit, atmospheric passageways leading through the renovated cave inside." - Tablet Hotels

Les Hautes Roches | Best places to stay in the Loire Valley

"The Loire Valley was for centuries famously home to ‘troglodytes’, local residents who lived in caves dug into the soft bedrock. Today, you’ll still find troglodyte homes, restaurants, zoos – and hotels. This cosy four-star is one of the best, with calming, luxurious ‘troglodyte’ rooms carved into the neighbouring cliff. There’s a fine seafood-theme gastronomic restaurant and lovely views over the Loire River. It’s close to Tours, making it an excellent central base to explore the Loire Valley’s main attraction.s " - Matthew Roach

The hotel is unique, well situated with a lovely staff. The hotel is going through some changes following the arrival of new management, so there are still a few issues, but it remains a remarkable hotel. The rooms carved into the cliff are amazing.

Spent a weekend at Les Hautes Roches to go and visit the nearby Loire valley castles. This was overall a great and unique experience in a troglodyte hotel: rooms are carved in a cliff overlooking the Loire river, the restaurant patio with a view right on top of the river.

Very nice experience. We felt very welcomed and that made it all! On the other side of the river there is a nice walk. The place is a bit close to the road but well situated in the region visit castles.

Room size and quality and views which can only come from a attentive and caring establishment. And the real bonus .. One of the largest and most comfortable hotel beds we have slept in for ages!

We had a lovely night here. The cave room was large, charming and comfortable. Dinner came with a view, excellent service, and a very nice meal. Breakfast was excellent. But the staff made the difference. They were charming, pleasant and went the extra mile. I would perhaps only caution that staying in a cave (even a charming one) is a bit different than staying at Versailles. We had a delightful stay and have seldom stayed at a property that tried as hard to make sure we were happy.

If you are in this region, stay in the troglodyte hotel. Staff are efficient, hotel is beautifully positioned over looking the Loire. Very relaxing after a day of sight seeing.

We didn't to a cave room - but had a beautiful, spacious room overlooking the river. Comfortable, beautiful hotel - excellent and very helpful staff. Brilliant views with great light in the afternoon and evening.

Yelp
If you're looking for a unique place to stay in the French countryside, this is it. The hotel is built into the limestone and the rooms are cave-like. They get a bit dark at times but the uniqueness of the rooms more than makes up for it. The staff were incredibly accommodating. Due to a train accident, we arrived quite late but they were ready to receive us. They also made sure we'd eaten. Later, we wanted to get a taxi back from Tours but weren't sure how to do that. We called the hotel and they were kind enough to send a taxi to get us. One afternoon, we ventured into Vouvray for wine tasting and cheese and came back with all sorts of goodies. I asked permission to sit on the restaurant patio to enjoy the view with our snacks and they were kind enough to bring out chair cushions and silverware. I will say that we had better food outside the restaurant. Our one dinner at the hotel was enjoyable but expensive for the quality. The continental breakfast is effectively a basket for bread for 20+ euros per person - skip it and find something in town.

Yelp
The hotel is very unique so it was built in the rocks . The food and the service in the restaurant are outstanding.
